Since Brys’ arrival, Fecafoot and Cameroon’s ministry of sport have been at loggerheads over the legality and legitimacy of the 63-year-old’s contract.
But he is not the first manager dismissed by Eto’o’s regime.
Having first been elected to Fecafoot’s top job in December 2021, the former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward soon oversaw the dismissal of Portuguese boss Toni Concecaio, who had guided Cameroon to a third-place finish on home soil at the 2021 Afcon, despite opposition from the ministry.
Strongly rumoured to also be Eto’o’s choice, Song led his nation at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – which Onana departed early after being suspended by Fecafoot – but a poor showing at the last Afcon in Ivory Coast ended the former West Ham and Liverpool defender’s time in charge.
The sports ministry’s choice of Brys as Song’s replacement was met with “great astonishment” at Fecafoot.
With Brys’ recent failure to qualify his team for next year’s World Cup, having lost to Dr Congo in the African play-offs, it now looks as if Eto’o has finally got his way.
However, it remains to be seen whether the ministry, which pays the head coach’s salary, will acquiesce to Fecafoot and Eto’o on this occasion. The BBC has been told that, for now, it has nothing to say.
“It’s difficult to see how a new manager will be able to put together a playing system, create an avenue where the players can express themselves fluently on the pitch and play as a unit,” Cameroonian analyst Njie Enow told BBC Sport Africa.
Whatever the outcome on the pitch, Fecafoot’s allegations of misconduct and the dismissal of Brys just weeks before a major tournament is merely the latest in a series of dramatic events under Eto’o’s stewardship, which has been marked by a range of scandals and opposition from local football stakeholders.

Dressed in a glittering jacket and black trousers, Denise beamed as she got the party going with the big day barely a month away.
It comes just weeks after the star opened up about hitting the studio to work on an Ibiza inspired album.
Chatting to The Sun last month, Denise said: “I’ve been writing not just this kind of music [ballads] but also dance tunes.
“I’ve started to get a real feel for what’s out there and I’ve been playing around with writing.
On whether she will release her electronic tunes, she added: “I’m working on one at the moment, so yeah, 100 per cent.”
Also at the bash was nepo-baby royalty Princess and Junior Andre.
Taking a leaf out of mum Katie Price‘s book, Princess, 18, opted for a tight black top and leggings and draped a faux fur jacket over her arms.
The budding fashionista matched the fluffy garment with a pair of maroon PVC boots.
Girl group Sweet Love looked effortlessly cool in coordinated crop tops and loose trousers, while Love Island’s Harry Cooskley cut a a stylish figure in a tight long-sleeve top and pleated trousers.

Peter, 52, has now teased that Emily, 36, and him have got a new TV project in the works.
The couple, who have been married since 2015, are well known faces on TV, and now it looks like they are set to get a new show.
Teasing this, Peter wrote in his Planet Peter column for this week’s New magazine: “Although I have some major solo projects launching in 2026, Emily and I are having exciting meetings about working together.
“We’ve got something very special lined up and we’ll let you know more soon.
“There’s no reason why both parents just can’t be there to support her. Now this isn’t about me. I have to clarify this,” Katie said in August.
“I don’t care that I’m not in Princess’ show.
“I don’t need to raise my profile by being on Princess’s show, I do enough stuff.

“All what I want to do, is just whatever my daughter does, and it’s the same with Junior, I don’t care if I’m in the background, but I want to watch her do her photo shoots, I wanna watch her do her signings, because that’s what I did.
“And my mom and you and Nan used to come along and support, and I’m proud of her.
“And I just wanna be there with her because I now I feel that I’ve missed out on so much.”
Taking to Instagram, Peter spoke out just hours after Katie said she had made contact with him after their fallout over daughter Princess amid her show.
In the statement shared on his social media page, Peter penned: “For sixteen years I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones.
“But staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today.”
He continued: “The latest comments about my children’s welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight.
“For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood.
