HEARTBROKEN friends and family have paid tribute to an “amazing” mum-of-three who tragically died after getting into difficulty at a reservoir.
The body of 33-year-old Kimberley Johnson, known as Kim, was pulled from Strinesdale Reservoir near Oldham on Sunday, August 17.

Emergency services rushed to the beauty spot on the A62 between Oldham and Delph after reports of a woman struggling in the water at around 4pm.
Police sealed off the area while fire crews, paramedics and the specialist water rescue unit battled to find her.
Despite desperate efforts, Kim was confirmed dead shortly after being recovered from the water at 6.25pm.
Greater Manchester Police said there are no suspicious circumstances. A spokesperson confirmed: “Emergency services responded to an incident at Strinesdale Reservoir at around 4:50pm yesterday after reports of a woman getting into difficulty in the water.
“Sadly, the body of a woman was recovered.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.”
The tragedy has rocked the local community, with tributes pouring in for the young mum, who was described as kind, soft-spoken and full of life.
Her close friend Tanya Kennedy told how Kim “always lit up every room” and had been a constant source of support and inspiration to those around her.
Tanya said: “Kim was such an amazing woman, she took me in when I was younger and from there she always treated me like a sister.
“I really wish I could speak to her one last time.
“I absolutely adore Kim and she has been a big role model for me, walking around Rochdale or even sitting at the canal messing about.
“Kim was a really important person to me and I regret not messaging her more or seeing her more often.
“She was one of those people who would tell you as it is but also the most kind hearted, soft spoken person I’ve ever met.

“I am really going to miss Kim, always lighting up every room she walked into.
“My thoughts and prayers are all to the family at this time. Rest in peace babe.”
Friends have since gathered online to share their grief, describing her as “one of a kind” and “taken far too soon”.
In another tribute, Curtis King wrote: “R.I.P Kim Louise Johnson my love and thoughts go out to all your family. A beautiful soul lost way too young.”
Residents in Oldham said the reservoir is a popular walking spot but warned the waters can be treacherous.
One local said: “It’s heartbreaking to hear someone has lost their life there. It looks calm on the surface but it can be dangerous.”
Kim leaves behind her three children, who friends say were the “centre of her world”.
Those who knew her best said she was a devoted mum who worked hard to give her family the best life possible.
The tragedy has sparked fresh warnings about the dangers of swimming in open water, especially during the summer months.
Experts say hidden currents, sudden drops and freezing temperatures can all pose a risk.
Spectacular fifties from Jordan Cox and Sam Curran fired Oval Invincibles to a thrilling six-wicket victory over Trent Rockets in a table-topping clash in The Hundred.

Random thoughts
—To be honest, I would not have bet on the Dodgers sweeping the Padres. Winning two of three? Yes. But not a sweep. It was a good sign, as championship teams need to rise to the occasion. The question now is, will the Padres rise back next weekend at San Diego? Heck, with the way baseball goes, the Dodgers could be back in second place before that series. But I doubt it.
—Mookie Betts. People like, oh, newsletter writers, have been pointing out his flaws all season. He shouldn’t be playing short. He’s playing terrible. But you know what? He came to the park early most days and put the work in. Worked to find what happened to his swing. Worked to become a better shortstop. So it had to be sweet redemption on Sunday when he hit that home run.
—Since I said Betts should be moved down in the order, he has hit .306/.366/.472 with nine runs scored and nine RBIs in nine games.
—Last time we talked about some concerns on the Dodgers. One area that wasn’t mentioned was the defense. The defense has been much worse than last season, and not always in ways that show up in the fielding numbers. Teoscar Hernández is not playing well in right. He looks like he’s running uphill all the time. Ryan O’Hearn of the Padres hit a fly ball hit into the right-field corner Sunday that seemed to hang up in the air forever, but Hernández couldn’t get there in time and it dropped for an RBI double. Those are the types of plays the Dodgers took advantage of against the Yankees during the World Series, and then later said they knew the Yankees had weaknesses defensively. Well, the Dodgers are in that boat this season.
—The Dodgers were the team not getting any breaks this season, but they seemed to get them all in the Padres series. Manny Machado dives for and misses a ball he would probably catch 99 times out of 100 on Friday, eventually leading to two runs. Jackson Merrill drops a fly ball in center field Saturday, scoring two runs. With a runner on second, Blake Treinen benefits from a very generous strike call from the umpire with Machado at the plate, avoiding a walk and then getting out of the inning.
—And what can you say about Clayton Kershaw? The guy can barely reach 90 on his fastball. Analytics would tell you this guy could not possible be successful in the majors. But there he is, working the corners and, you know, pitching. Not just throwing. The man is 7-2 with a 3.01 ERA. In some ways, this is the most impressive season of his career. And now I’ve probably jinxed him.
—Will Smith threw out three baserunners trying to steal Saturday, and has thrown out 27.9% of attempted base stealers this season. That’s 12th in the majors among catcher who have had 25 chances to throw out a stealer. Salvador Perez leads the majors at 48%. In case you were wondering, Johnny Bench, considered by many to be the best defensive catcher ever, was at 43.5% for his career. Steve Yeager was 38% and Mike Scioscia 34.4%. Mike Piazza was 23.2%. Smith’s career number is 25.5%. His best season was last year, 33.3% (32 of 96).
—The Dodgers head to Denver next to play the Rockies, who are the worst team in baseball, on pace to finish 46-116. Prime spot for a letdown. The Dodgers are 6-0 against the Rockies this season, 10-3 against them last season.
—I get many emails from readers saying the Dodgers leave too many men on base. This is something we’ve talked about in seasons past, so you veteran subscribers out there, forgive me for a moment. The teams with the best offenses are frequently the teams with the most runners left on base, because they have more runners on base. A game ends 6-2. The team that scored six had nine hits and three walks and left six on base. The team with two got both runs on homers and drew no walks. They left no one one base. But which team had the best offense?
Since 1950, the team that has left the most runs on base in a season is the 1976 Big Red Machine Cincinnati Reds, who are in the conversation for best team in history. They averaged 5.29 runs per game and averaged 8.19 LOB. Next are the 1993 Detroit Tigers, who averaged 5.55 runs per game and 8.10 LOB.
The Dodgers are averaging 5.16 runs per game and are 6.82 LOB. Runners left on base is not a big problem.
But, I hear you saying, this could mean they lack clutch hitting, stranding all these runners. No.

His batting average is down but the home runs are up. His steals are down, while his walks and strikeouts are up. Really, it’s sort of what you would expect.
Newest Dodger
The Dodgers added Buddy Kennedy, a utility infielder, to the roster last week when Max Muncy went on the IL. (They hope Muncy, who has a strained oblique, is back in September.)
Kennedy was born Clifton Lewis Kennedy on Oct. 5, 1988, just 12 days before the Dodgers won the World Series that year. He was drafted out of Millville (N.J.) High by Arizona in the fifth round of the 2017 draft. He was in triple-A by 2022, and the Diamondbacks brought him to the majors that year. He hit .217 in 30 games, then .167 in 10 games the next season and was put on waivers. Oakland picked him up in September, but put him on waivers in October and he was picked up by St. Louis, who put him on waivers in Sept. 2024. Detroit signed him and he hit .182 in eight games before Philadelphia purchased his contract. He played in 12 games over two seasons for them, was released, and Toronto signed him. He went one for five for them this season and they released him, and now he’s with the Dodgers.
So, four seasons in the majors, seven teams.
He trains with Mike Trout in the offseason. Trout also went to Millville High. “Mike has been great to me,” Kennedy told the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2024. “He slowly started … not getting on me, but holding me accountable. And to this day, I can call him, or text him, and ask him about a pitcher I’m facing, or how to handle myself in the big leagues.
“He’s very open and honest. And that’s helped me a lot.”
Kennedy’s grandfather is Don Money, who was a really good player for the Phillies and Brewers in the ’70s and ’80s.
Why is it so hot with all these fans?

The price of an Island has lowered drastically and is on the market for less than £300,000 which is a lower than a average London flat – with three beaches and beautiful view

A breath-taking Scottish island is up for sale for less than the cost of the average UK house and it’s packed with beaches, forest, and jaw-dropping views.
Eilean Mor, a remote 30-acre island located in Loch Sunart, in the Scottish Highlands, is on the market for £275,000 – cheaper than most three-bed homes and less than half the average London flat, which now sits at over £540,000.
With three cove beaches, a thick forest, and crystal blue waters, Eilean Mor is a haven for wildlife lovers and nature seekers. Seals, otters and sea eagles are often spotted nearby, and the area’s protected status means its rugged beauty is preserved.
But there’s a catch because it’s part of the Sunart Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC), no planning permission exists for building or development. Still, for those wanting a slice of serenity and natural wonder, it’s a rare gem.
The island has been in the same family for generations and even has links to historical pilgrimages dating back nearly 1,000 years. According to estate agents Bell Ingram: “This captivating island offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue, a serene hideaway and a chance to own a piece of Scotland’s wild beauty.”

And you don’t need to give up civilisation completely. Just a short 3.5-mile trip from the island is the village of Strontian, which has shops, schools, a café, church, doctor’s surgery and B&Bs.
A bit further afield is Fort William dubbed the “outdoor capital of the UK” – with hiking, skiing, whisky tours and access to Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain.
And if you’ve got a few more million in the bank, another Scottish island is also on sale – Shuna Island, a massive 1,110-acre plot with eight homes, a ruined castle, a working farm and a holiday business, priced at £5.5 million.

The summer is in full swing, with many families looking for their next holiday getaway – but that idyllic location could be closer to home than you think.
Across the nation, there’s a collection of stunning destinations just waiting to be explored, and what’s more, they’re super easy to get to. Forget getting to the airport hours before your flight, ditch the 23kg packing limit, and avoid the stress, as staycations are dominating the summer holidays this year.
A new study from Škoda found that a whopping 83% of Brits are keen to explore more of the UK this summer, with many opting for driving holidays over trips abroad. The research also found that a number of these holidaymakers are prepared to drive more than 1,000 miles to reach their desired destination in the UK.

The benefits? Travellers are able to stop and look at the sights whenever they desire, choose what time to leave, and have no luggage limits. In addition, it’s a more adorable way to travel rather than catching a flight ot taking the train, especially if you have a big family, and you don’t need a passport!
With this in mind, Škoda has revealed the most desired summer road trip locations for this summer. From meandering up the Snowdonia National Park to taking a fresh water dip in the Lake District – there’s a staycation to suit everyone, no matter how adventurous you are.
One of the top locations to visit is the Scottish Highlands, home to some seriously spectacular landscapes. The breathtaking scenes are home to the mythical Loch Ness, not to mention the restaurant scene for foodies and towering mountains for intrepid explorers.
One traveller raved: “We spent our last few Junes travelling around Scotland with long days and plenty of wildlife… Considering your route, the Cairngorms are fab for red squirrel, red deer, eagles, grouse etc. We saw all of these plus some in the glens of the eastern Cairngorms earlier this year. The Lake District is no well-kept secret, known for its fresh water lakes, historic towns, and mountains that it’s become another favoured spot for summer staycations. It’s an England national treasure, and in fact, it’s now considered a world treasure, having been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
One tourist who drove the famous Hardknott pass between Eskdale and Duddon Valley raved: “Views to die for,” while another added: “Amazing drive, I have driven some great roads here and in the USA. This drive is up there with the best of them.”

What could be more delightful than a late afternoon spent frolicking in the waves, followed by an evening meal at Wales’ Best Local Restaurant 2025?
As The Good Food Guide reported, while the beach’s remoteness is a selling point for many seeking quiet beauty, its location in the southern part of the county means it’s just a quick drive to Wales’ top restaurant, Paternoster Farm.
After a quick change from your beach attire and a brush-off of the sand, you’ll be savouring locally caught oysters and home-reared beef and pork belly from a menu that changes every day, based on what’s in season, reports Wales Online.
The beach, which inspired Carmarthenshire’s psychedelic folk band, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, for their third album release in 1997, Barafundle, is only accessible on foot. However, it’s just a short stroll from Stackpole Quay, where you can park your car and grab a flat white before embarking on your journey.
The path will lead you across the often breezy cliffs before you reach the beach. Part of the Stackpole Estate, the secluded nature of the bay means it requires a bit of effort to reach, ensuring it won’t be as crowded as other beaches in Pembrokeshire.

If you’re willing to carry your beach gear there (and you absolutely should, as you won’t want to leave), it will be well worth it. Most of the time, the sand is occupied by families and friends enjoying the golden sands and crystal blue sea, or keen walkers on the coastal path taking a break to soak up the view.
If you choose to park and walk, it’s about a 15-minute journey. The descent isn’t steep, but it could pose a slight challenge for those with mobility issues. Its proximity to Stackpole makes it a convenient spot for visiting the nearby Bosherton Lily Ponds and the award-winning Stackpole Inn is definitely worth a visit.
Being part of the renowned Stackpole Estate, formerly owned by the Cawdor Family who resided in Stackpole Court, the beach features charming stone steps and walls that make for an Instagram-worthy shot.

You’ll need to park at the National Trust-owned Stackpole Quay car park, which forms part of the Stackpole Estate. The postcode for this location is: SA71 5LS.
From there, you’ll need to climb the steps on your right as you head down towards the shore, and then continue up over the cliffs to reach the beach. Alternatively, you can park at Broadhaven South and follow the coastal path. The postcode for Broad Haven South car park is SA71 5DR.

The Northumberland Coastal Route has been named as England’s best road trip, taking you to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country – and it’s just a road trip away from Newcastle

The North East boasts England’s top road trip, according to one travel blogger. If you’re looking for a last-minute trip that doesn’t necessarily involve getting into a plane and travelling thousands of miles away, this is a good alternative. You need a car, good company and a bathing suit.
Paul McDougal champions the Northumberland Coastal Route, stating it “isn’t the biggest, the most famous, or most dramatic road trip in England, but it’s absolutely my favourite”. However, the travel aficionado concedes he “might be a bit biased” as he hails from the region himself.

Nonetheless, once you see it for yourself, it won’t take you long to understand why. He also suggests starting the journey from Tynemouth and “hugging the coast as closely as you can”.
Departing from Tynemouth, just a stone’s throw from Newcastle, it’s a mere 10-minute drive to Whitley Bay. This seaside town is packed with traditional pubs and independent shops, and boasts a mile-long stretch of Blue Flag beach, reports the Express.
A half-hour drive from the bay will take you to Cresswell, a coastal village renowned for its sandy beach, which Visit Northumberland describes as “one of the best on the Northumberland coast for dog walkers and families looking for a day at the beach”.
Just shy of an hour further up the coast, you’ll find Craster, a fishing village nestled within the Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This designation makes it one of England’s 34 sites earmarked for conservation under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.
Visit Craster describes the village as “it is a popular destination for those seeking peace and quiet in a spectacular setting.” Just moments away lies Alnwick Gardens, cultivated by the Duchess of Northumberland back in 1996.

Aldi has impressed coffee drinkers with a £22.99 item that enables you to “make exceptional espresso wherever you are.” The supermarket is stocking an Adventuridge Portable Coffee Maker that’s said to be “perfect for travel, camping, or on-the-go use.”
The travel item is one of the retailer’s SpecialBuy items, meaning it is only available while stock lasts. Based on social media reactions, the portable coffee maker could prove popular. The item received lots of attention when it was showcased in a Facebook post shared by Aldi UK.
The caption said: “No coffee shop, no problem. This is the perfect solution for those caffeine hits NEEDED after a sleepless night in a tent. Pick yours up in store now – perfect for everything from camping trips to office days.”
While some commenters had mixed views about the item, lots of viewers praised the idea. Someone replied: “These are amazing. Ideal for hotels too when you only get instant coffee and a kettle. I use one with a little pot of espresso on my travels.”
A coffee fan said: “I’ve got one of the Nanopresso (same design) and if you know how to use it, they make excellent coffees (from Espressos, Americanos and every other coffee type).” Another viewer wrote: “Be good for some footy.”
Another response read: “I’ll need this when we go camping.” Someone else told their colleague: “We should get this for work.” Meanwhile, another excited shopper said: “Bother, now I have to go to Aldi and I just got comfy.”

However, not everyone was blown away, with one social media user saying: “Just have a simple flask!!!!” Someone else wrote: “What’s wrong with a kettle, a small stove, a cafetiere and a mug when camping?
“Similar to being in an office and you get much more bang for your buck.” A commenter added: “My travel mug keeps my coffee hot for hours. I don’t need one of these.”
For those who are interested in the portable coffee maker, a full product description is available on Aldi’s website. It states: “Enjoy your favourite espresso without the need for batteries or cords with our easy-to-use manual espresso maker. One female holidaymaker who was looking to let her hair down on her trip away to a Spanish hotspot admits she was left disappointed when she got there at the lack of nightlife

Many people head off of their holidays to let their hair down. As well as the beach, a lot of tourists like to enjoy a tipple as the sun goes down and head out to some bars.
However, one female holidaymaker who was after just this admits she was left disappointed when she headed to Spanish city Valencia for a trip away. Chelsie, known as @chelsieelf on Instagram, often shares videos about her travels, which she does while working remotely, with her 12,500 followers. And one of her latest reels sees her strolling around Valencia looking startled at the lack of nightlife.
The caption for the video reads: “When you didn’t read the news and go to Valencia expecting amazing nightlife and late-open bars.”
A new headline flashes up half-way throughout the clip which reads: “Spanish seaside city to close bars early and remove terraces in huge tourism crackdown.”
Following up in the caption of her clip, Chelsie shares things she learned about Valencia on her trip.

She wrote: “Because of too much noise from ppl partying in bars and clubs, recently police enforced closing times of 1am, many places closed at 12. I still found a bar that closed at 3 on a weekday though.”
Talking about more Valencia findings, Chelsie also said that the food is “relatively cheaper than other parts of Spain that tourists visit”. She also mentioned that she loved the “interesting architecture” and said that the best beaches are ‘at least an hour South or North’.
Writing in the comments section, one person in the know said: “Tourism was killing the city, this is a way to crack down on it. Most of the locals now go out outside of the city centre, since the city centre is basically now all Airbnbs.”
Many also mentioned the floods that hit Valencia last year, which killed hundreds of people.

One person said: “Yeah there was also a massive flood that killed a lot of people and Valencia is still recovering from it. It never hurts to learn a bit before traveling.”
While another added: “I’m in Valencia, 7 months ago we had a massive flood, lots of people died and others lost their homes and cars and businesses… so yeah maybe partying is on our minds…”
A third chimed also wrote: “There was a huge flood that people are trying to recover from so people are still mourning.”
Another resident of the city also had a plea, writing: “As a Valencian, please keep coming but being respectful of the culture, nature and residents.”
Northern Ireland’s McIlroy will return to the Travelers Championship after skipping the 2024 event to “lick my wounds” after just missing out on the US Open at Pinehurst.
McIlroy arrives in Connecticut off the back off a difficult week at this year’s major at Oakmont, where he was visibly frustrated by his game as he narrowly made the cut and told reporters he had earned the right “to do what I want” after skipping media sessions.
After the tournament he admitted he had climbed his “Everest” by completing a career Grand Slam by winning the Masters in April and he was looking forward to scaling “another mountain”.
“The weeks after major championships, sometimes when you’re in contention and trying to win them it can feel quite difficult to go and play the next week,” the 36-year-old said.
“But after a week like I had at Oakmont, where you aren’t quite in the mix but you think you might have found something in your game, you are excited to play again.
“This is the perfect chaser from last week and it’s nice to get out on a golf course where you feel like you can make quite a few brides.”
When asked if one particular shot at the US Open had made him feel more positive about his game, McIlroy said consistency was key and pointed to the fact he made the most shots off the tee in the field at Oakmont.
“f I can see something, or have a feeling, that is very repeatable – on the range is one thing but on the course is another – the proof is in the pudding,” he added.
“Last week I felt I found a feeling, especially off the tee that was repeatable and working well.
“I led strokes off the tee last week which was a big thing for me. I thought I drove the ball well all week.”

A popular beach praised for its turquoise sea and white sand is just hours away from the UK. For holidaymakers wanting a picturesque location without committing to a long-haul flight, Croatia might be the perfect solution.
Just a three-hour flight from the UK, Croatia is known for its white sand, turquoise seas, car-free islands and dramatic cliffside coves. According to rental experts Villsy.com, Croatia offers all the beauty of the Maldives without the long-haul journey.
Croatian coastal bathing areas, according to the European Environment Agency’s report, are the cleanest in Europe. Tamed by its 1,244 islands, the Croatian sea is also very calm.
Toni Hrelja, founder of Villsy.com, shared a local’s guide to Croatia’s most beautiful beaches, including hidden gems where the “crystal-clear waters and stunning scenery rival the Maldives.” Among them is Sakarun beach on Dugi Otok island.
According to Toni, Sakarun beach “stuns” with its shallow turquoise sea and white sand mixed with smooth pebbles. The beach features a “calm lagoon with a wide sheltered bay”, which offers the shade of the pine trees.

The beach is located on Dugi Otok, an elongated island with small, peaceful villages. The island is home to only 1,500 people, and a huge nature spot Telašćica Nature Park.
On TripAdvisor, the beach is described as a “hidden gem”, “a magical place” and a “pearl of sand.” It has been given a 3.5 rating overall.
One reviewer said: “Sakarun is the most beautiful beach I have ever been. Crystal clear turquoise water, light sand, amazing view.”
A second wrote: “One of the most beautiful beaches you can find in Croatia! It’s worth spending at least a day there. We left Zadar with a tour that included a transfer with a fast catamaran (we arrived on the island in an hour) then they took us to the beach by coach!

“Wonderful. You have to walk a little to reach the bus and then to reach the beach but it’s worth it. I recommend reaching the pine forest at the end of the beach to settle in the shade. There are a couple of bars, a small shop selling beach supplies and some chemical toilets that are generally clean. There are no showers.”
Another added: “Carribean sea in Croatia. Far away the most beautiful beach in Croatia. Difficult to reach, the best way is by boat. A nice sandy beach with clear blue water.”
Toni added: “Due to the island being remote, the beach isn’t crowded, even in the peak season, but it takes an effort to reach it.” There are direct flights from London, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Liverpool and Bournemouth to Zadar.
From Zadar there are two ways to reach the island – either to take the ferry to Brbinj (1:45) or a passenger catamaran to Božava (1:20). If you don’t have a car to drive around the island, there’s a tourist train from Božava to Sakarun that goes every two hours.
