Amanda Holden says ‘the old Simon Cowell is back’ as BGT head judge ditches ‘Mr Soft act’

Simon Cowell, who was known for his brutal takedowns of fame-hungry hopefuls, is ‘back’ according to Britain’s Got Talent co-star Amanda Holden, who says his toned-down persona is gone

Amanda Holden believes her Britain’s Got Talent co-star Simon Cowell is back to his former, more straight-talking self, having ditched his “Mr Soft” act. As the ITV talent hunt gets underway, Amanda is glad to see the return of Simon’s infamous “one liners”, on the “chaotic” new series.

The new series, which began on 21st February, has already frustrated viewers at home. During the first episode fans were getting worked up over the ‘overuse’ of the infamous golden buzzer. As Ant and Dec reminded viewers at the start of the show, the golden buzzer is used when one of the judges deemed a contestant good enough to bypass the rest of the auditions and go straight through to the semi-final.

But while fans were already complaining, Amanda Holden has promised this series will be full of drama. As reported by the Mail, she explained: “Simon is back. He’s been Mr Soft in recent years, and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that KSI is so honest on the other end of the panel.”

Explaining he is done with ‘sugar coating’ his comments, she added: “I’m glad to see that Simon is no longer being soft serve ice-cream, although it was nice for a year or so!”

Amanda says the new series “feels very loose and very chaotic”, with KSI helping the show thanks to his “succint” answers. Meanwhile “the old Simon” is back, with the Heart Radio host saying she is “loving” that Simon’s “one liners are better than ever”.

Simon has assured fans there will be “lots of surprises”, with more behind-the-scenes filming, letting the audience at home “behind the Wizard of Oz’s curtain”. But Amanda has recently admitted he “hated” one aspect of filming the new series.

The star was forced to step into head judge Simon’s role, after he had to miss filming after falling down some steps and hitting his head. The brief shake up saw Amanda thrust into head judge duties, with X Factor runner up Stacey Solomon joining the panel as a guest.

As reported by the Daily Star, Amanda explained: “I must admit I hated sitting in that seat! I’ve been on the show the longest, so I understand why I probably need to sit in that seat, but when I was there, I felt very outcast on the end.

“It’s okay if your team are sat to the left of you, Simon’s got dozens of staff and family watching from the side and communicating with him. Mine all decided to eat my snacks and sit in the dressing room paying no attention to the show or me whatsoever!

“Simon said to me, ‘You must have loved it. Did you feel powerful?’ I said I hated it because I had to keep leaning in to be part of the conversation. I never want to sit in that seat again! I’m juicy in the middle, it’s such a good spot.”

Elsewhere, talking about Stacey joining the judging panel, Amanda said: “She’s so lovely and I think we’ve got quite a similar style of judging.

“She’s warm, she’s super funny, she has a great understanding of what it’s like to be on the other side, because she obviously auditioned for The X Factor all those years ago.

“Even though she’s smashing it in the real world now, she’s very down to earth and doesn’t have an ego, so I think that worked really nicely for the day that she was pulled in. We’re all fans of her and her crafting is through the roof. If only I could be that type of mother!”

Amanda Holden STOPS radio show and tells off co-star for raising Phillip Schofield feud

AMANDA Holden temporarily brought her radio show to a halt after co-star Jamie Theakston mentioned her rival Phillip Schofield.

The Heart Breakfast hosts, both 55, had Brit Awards host Jack Whitehall in the studio ahead of Sunday’s ceremony at the Manchester Co-op Live.

The banter was innocent enough, with Amanda quizzing Jack about the type of socks he’s planning on wearing.

Suggesting he won’t be going for the type of outlandish pair favoured by his dad, Michael, Jack said: “Well, I don’t want to be upstaged by a sock.”

Amanda turned to Jamie and said: “Well, Jamie, I rest my case.”

Unsure why she was sticking the boot in about socks, he replied: “What are you talking about? Children’s television? That wasn’t me, that was Phillip Schofield.”

Amanda Holden reveals why she’d not take Strictly job – and her top 2 choices

Amanda then took a dig at her long-running rival, saying: “Oh God, please, let’s not mention that name on air, it’s a family show!”

Phillip and Amanda’s feud is rumoured to have begun when she was passed over for a hosting gig in favour of Phil’s first choice, Rochelle Humes.

Amanda had been tipped to stand in for Holly Willoughby on This Morning during her time away hosting I’m A Celebrity in 2018 but The Saturdays star Rochelle booked the job instead.

A former daytime TV executive told The Sun at the time: “Phillip actively campaigned for Rochelle to get the job despite Amanda being more experienced — and having been told privately she’d got the gig.

“She feels Phil unfairly used his powers of persuasion. She was told he’d chosen Rochelle because she was easier to ‘manage’ on air – and understandably that incensed her.”

An ITV spokesperson denied the claims at the time and released a statement of support for Phillip.

The statement read: “Presenter line-ups on This Morning change regularly. Final decisions are made by producers, not presenters.

“Phillip is a much-loved broadcaster and part of the ITV family. He’s a consummate professional and held in high regard at ITV.

“Amanda is also held in high regard as a judge on one of our biggest shows.”

Shortly after Rochelle was confirmed as Holly’s replacement, Amanda appeared on This Morning to talk about her work with pregnancy and baby loss charity, Tommy’s.

During an ad break on the October 2018 episode, Amanda reportedly confronted Phil about her suspicions that he had campaigned for Rochelle to replace Holly instead of her.

A source told The Sun: “She made it clear that she felt very let down.

“He was lost for words but didn’t have much time to respond to Amanda’s claims because the show was going back on air.

“Neither of them realised that Amanda could be overheard by most of the team because she was still wearing her mic pack.”

In 2019, Amanda confirmed her and Phillip’s feud to Jamie Theakston on Heart and insisted they’ll never reconcile.

She said she asked to meet Phillip in a bid to clear the air but was ghosted by the star.

“I’ve moved on from it Jamie, you need to move on from it,” she said.

He replied: “You might have moved on but I just wanted to know, is there any more to the story?”

She then revealed: “I did offer to meet him for a coffee months ago, he didn’t reply to my text. What can I say?”

Jamie pushed again: “The olive branch had been extended.”

“Oh, yes,” Amanda replied.

Referring to the famous photo of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift hugging while dressed up as fast food after they’d resolved their own feud, Jamie asks Amanda if there will be a “burger and fries moment” – but Amanda said “no”.

Phillip has not directly addressed his rumoured fallout with Amanda but, prior to the alleged end of their friendship, he had revealed what it was like to work with her.

In 2015, he spoke to Heat magazine about his former co-worker, saying: “She kept me on my toes.

“She has a faulty edit button and she forgets she’s on the telly, which is enormously endearing and funny, but occasionally quite scary.”

He also appeared to reference the rumours surrounding his relationship with Amanda after The Sun reported that she had made a formal complaint to ITV boss Kevin Lygo about the This Morning hiring incident.

Phil addressed the speculation on Twitter, saying: “The end of another really sad weekend.

“When you try for 35 years to be the easiest, most fun person to work with and you read such hurtful and wildly untrue stories from nameless ‘sources’.

“Obviously I’ll take it on the chin.. .I just hope you know me better.”

Amanda Holden says ‘let’s not’ in fresh swipe at Phillip Schofield after bitter feud

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has been open about her feelings towards Phillip Schofield in recent years, following the pair’s reported fallout in 2018

Amanda Holden has taken a fresh swipe at Phillip Schofield after his name was mentioned live on air on Tuesday. The 56-year-old and her Heart Radio co-host Jamie Theakston were joined by Jack Whitehall ahead of his hosting duties at The Brit Awards this weekend.

During the discussion, Amanda was keen to know what Jack was wearing for the gig, to which he confirmed it would be a suit. Pressed further on whether he would opt for a “snappy pair of socks” like his dad, he joked: “I’m not going to go too jazzy with the socks, you never want to be upstaged by a sock.”

Turning to her co-star following the response, she said: “Well, Jamie, I rest my case.”

Puzzled by her comment, her co-star asked: “What are you talking about? Children’s television? That wasn’t me, that was Phillip Schofield.”

After instantly hearing his name, Amanda didn’t hold back from taking a swipe at her former This Morning co-star. She said with a laugh: “Oh god, please, let’s not mention that name on air, it’s a family show!”

The pair fronted This Morning together for a brief period while Holly Willoughby was on maternity leave in 2014.

Four years later, reports claimed that Phillip had ruined her chances to co-host with him again, as Holly fronted I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alongside Declan Donnelly.

A former daytime TV executive previously told The Sun that Phillip “actively campaigned” for Rochelle Humes to get the job instead.

However, an ITV spokesperson later denied the reports, stating that presenter decisions are only made by producers.

Phillip also addressed the rumours on social media, branding them “hurtful and wildly untrue”.

While Amanda didn’t comment directly on the reports, she has made no secret of her true thoughts toward him over the years.

During a playful game on Heart Radio about three things she didn’t want to find in her home, she quipped in 2019: “Spiders, flies and Phillip Schofield.”

Later, she revealed she had reached out to him for a heart-to-heart over coffee but claimed he didn’t respond.

Quizzed about her former co-star on Heart, Amanda confessed: “I did offer to meet him for a coffee months ago, he didn’t reply to my text. What can I say?”

Jamie added: “The olive branch had been extended,” to which she replied: “Oh, yes.”

The presenter has also previously appeared to take a swipe at Phillip’s former co-star Holly.

Discussing reports about her and Paul C. Brunson’s show Unfinished Business being commissioned for a second series, Amanda was asked if they were true.

“Well, yesterday I read in the paper that we are doing another series, but I don’t know for sure,” she confessed.

Cheekily stirring things up, he replied: “What are they suggesting, they getting Holly Willoughby?”

Caught off guard, Amanda responded: “I… what?!”, followed with a laugh and the comment: “No, they want a proper presenter.”

Jamie replied: “You’re going to get in trouble for that!”, to which Amanda said playfully: “No one’s listening.”

Britain’s Got Talent viewers say ‘this is sick’ as royal tribute ‘not good timing’

Britain’s Got Talent viewers were left divided by the drone performance featuring King Charles’ voice that closed the first episode of the ITV series

Britain’s Got Talent viewers were left split over one particular act that brought the curtain down on the opening episode of the ITV programme.

This year, hundreds of hopefuls will be greeted by award-winning presenters Ant and Dec before showcasing their abilities to judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and newcomer KSI.

Performers from every corner of the UK and across the globe will be taking to the stage, hoping not only to impress the judging panel but also the voting public, in a bid to scoop the life-changing prize of £250,000 and a coveted spot at the legendary Royal Variety Performance.

Fans were quick to voice their opinions after Somerset act Celestial closed the show with a spectacular mega-drone display. As the judges and audience filed outside, Celestial put on a breathtaking show combining drones and lights.

Towards the finale of the performance, King Charles‘ voice was heard in a poignant tribute, leaving some viewers feeling it “couldn’t have come at a worse time”, reports Belfast Live.

The voice said: “Wherever you may live in the United Kingdom, I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love.

“Our nation and the wider family of realms, of whose talents, traditions and achievements, I am so inexpressibly proud. Have prospered and flourished, which makes us great as a nation.”

Amanda Holden remarked, “I am going to start crying.”

Responding to the act, one viewer wrote: “An act with the King’s voiceover could not have come at a worse time!”

“This is kinda sick #BGT,” wrote one viewer, whilst another chimed in with, “Not good timing but wow this is cool.”

One sharp-eyed fan noted, “Celestial- very cool very different I love it but I can’t see the King going outside to watch it that’s the only thing #BGT.”

“Well, wasn’t that brilliant? Brought a wee tear to my eye #BGT,” gushed yet another fan.
