The New York-born actor has starred in a number of hit shows, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Bones, and most recently SEAL Team. But where is he now?

David Boreanaz was a little-known actor when his life changed forever in 1997. The star had only appeared in a handful of small film roles and in a single 1993 episode of Married… with Children before landing the role of reluctant vampire Angel in the hit series Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

He instantly became a breakout star, and a household name when his character was given a spin-off series, Angel, which aired for five seasons from 1999 to 2004. But where is the New York-born star now and what has he been up to? We take a closer look at David’s life both on and off the screen.

Acting gigs and health fears

David’s most recent high-profile acting job was starring in SEAL Team, an American military drama television series that follows an elite unit of United States Navy SEALs.

He starred as Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Jason Hayes a.k.a. Bravo 1/1B, the leader of the team, to much acclaim. The seventh and final season of the show premiered in August 2024.

Speaking about the physical toll it took on his body – and explaining why the season would be his last – David, 56, told People: “My body just can’t do it anymore!”

He added: “You learn from the SEALs how to push through pain — I’m talking guys who have had their arm blown off and are cracking jokes because that’s how they deal with it. It’s very intense.

“I take good care of myself, but it gets to a point where your body’s not moving like it used to… I think I’ve had four MRIs in the past four months, for my knees, hips, shoulders. It’s been quite a journey.”

Family life

David has been married to former Playboy model Jaime Bergman since November 2001 and together they share two children – son Jaden, 23, and daughter Bella, 15. Prior to finding love with Jaime, he was married to Ingrid Quinn from 1997 to 1999.

In May this year, David shared a post in celebration of Jaden’s birthday, sharing a series of photos and writing in part: “Happy Birthday son. You shine to the stars and reach for the moon in ways that light up rooms with love and laughter. You are my everything and my world. I love you…”

Scandals

In 2010, David admitted to having an affair with Rachel Uchitel, the same woman with whom Tiger Woods allegedly cheated on his wife with. At the time, his wife Jaime was reportedly pregnant with their second child.

In her statement to Access, Rachel said of their affair: “First of all I want to make it clear that he pursued me. Second, the authentic texts which I have reveal that David Boreanaz repeatedly expressed his deep love and affection towards me.

“Third, I broke off the relationship because I no longer respected or trusted him. Finally, I am deeply hurt and offended that anyone would think that I wanted to break up his family. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

Speaking in October 2011, David told TV Week: “In a sacred ground like marriage, you find yourself out of it at certain times for reasons unknown that can be destructive. There could be a demon that kind of comes out and overtakes you.

“Do I believe in giving up? No, I don’t. I’m a fighter. I’m a lover,” he said. While Jaime said at the time of his confession that she was ‘angry’, the pair decided to work on their marriage.

It’s not the only storm the couple have weathered. In 2010, a co-worker on the set of Bones sued David for alleged sexual harassment, claiming he repeatedly attempted to kiss and fondle her.

David’s spokeswoman at the time called the allegations “fabricated and absurd”. In March 2011, The co-worker then dismissed the lawsuit against David, according to court records. She wrote in an email that it had been “resolved” but did not offer further details.

Future plans

David has hinted at some exciting future endeavours, telling People after SEAL Team ended: “I have plans. My work ethic is always head on a swivel, be in the now, don’t look back, don’t look far down the pipeline.”

Acknowledging at the time that he was ready for a break after starring in back-to-back series for nearly 30 years, he admitted he’s not good at sitting still.

“Vacations are good until, like, the second day, and then I’m bouncing my knees thinking about what we’re going to do next,” he said.

“My mind is always actively going. Work to me is relaxation, it fulfills me.” Work, he said, and spending time with his kids. “That’s it.”

Certainly, David seems to be embracing his role as a proud father. Speaking last summer, he told the publication: “I just helped my son move out of his apartment in New York. It was a test of patience!

“My son did most of the packing and setting it up for the new tenant while I helped from the outside, but it was a tornado. Parenting is such a journey. It never ends, and it never gets easier!”

The Bones alum continued: “He went to NYU, but he decided to take a break from it during the last year. He’s an artist and a musician so he’s staying true to his soul… you have to go with the beat of your heart.”

As for daughter Bella: “My daughter is an excellent equestrian. She’s a loving adventurous soul. Both of my kids are doing their own thing. I’m very protective of them, but everyone’s great. My son is a singer, an artist, and a musician, my daughter is in high school. Everyone is good.”

Scottie Scheffler’s role in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ a gift for golf fans

This is a story about a movie that saved a sport. OK, that’s a stretch, but only a little one.

Scottie Scheffler is the No. 1 golfer in the world. Has been for a couple of years. He has won two Masters titles, one PGA Championship and the recent British Open, as well as an Olympic gold medal. He is so good that somebody ought to check his golf balls for tiny magnets that hook up to the cups on the greens. So far this year, by slapping a little white dimpled ball around in the grass, he has won $19.2 million. He has yet to turn 30, but his overall income, just from golf tournaments, is around $90 million.

This guy is so good that his caddie, Ted Scott, is estimated, at the normal 10% of winnings, to have pocketed about $5 million. For carrying a bag.

So, what’s the problem?

Scheffler is so good that he might also be sparking a trend called remote remorse. You really want to watch, but once he gets ahead by a couple of shots, there is nothing left. No drama, no possible twist and turn, no chance of any excitement. Other players in those tense, title-on-the-line final holes, dunk a shot into the water or bury one so deep in the sand that their only choice of club is a shovel.

Not Scheffler. He is a 6-foot-3 human robot whose veins circulate ice water. When the going gets tough, Scheffler yawns.

So, you see this and you know what is coming next — final putt, arms raised in satisfaction, a hug for his multi-millionaire caddie, the mandatory TV interview with the apparently mandatory British-accent female sportscaster, who will always start with, “How does this feel?”

You, and millions more, click the button on your remote for something more interesting, like HGTV or the Gardening Channel. When Scheffler gets ahead in the final round like that — which is almost always — it is game over. He can squeeze the drama out of a golf tournament like Bill Belichick could out of an NFL postgame interview.

Certainly, you say, Tiger Woods used to win lots of tournaments by lots of big margins and that never seemed boring.

That’s because it wasn’t. Tiger was animated, angry, annoyed, analytical, fed up with some part of his game, charged up over another part, mad at a reporter, upset with his agent. Tiger could win by eight, occasionally did, and it was still must-see TV. When Tiger was at his best, nobody could beat him and the public loved him and just wanted more. Scheffler is currently at his best and the public certainly is terribly impressed and, sadly, kind of meh. Tiger was a pound-on-the-table-and-shout-at-the-TV kind of player. Scheffler is a nod and a shrug.

But there is hope. Hollywood has intervened, as only Hollywood can.

Twenty-nine years ago, an up-and-coming comic named Adam Sandler made a movie inspired by one of his New England friends, who was a great hockey player and could also hit a golf ball a long distance with a hockey stick. Sandler called the movie “Happy Gilmore” and found a wide audience that loved it for its irreverence about a game that flaunts hushed reverence.

Among the highlights was an on-course fistfight between Happy Gilmore (Sandler) and aging TV game show host Bob Barker. Barker won by KO.

The movie was hilariously overdone slapstick. It was a gut-laugh-a-minute. It was so stupid and wacky that it was wonderful.

Now, Sandler has made “Happy Gilmore 2,” and it is again a must-see for all the reasons that the original was. Plus the cameo appearances. Especially one by Scheffler.

In the movie, Scheffler is good, funny, fun. He doesn’t have a lot of lines, but he has perfect timing. He punches a guy out on the green and the cops come and haul him away. “Oh, no. Not again,” he says.

Remember, earlier this year, when Louisville cops hauled him away and put him in an orange jail suit, when he was accused of making a wrong turn while driving into the golf course at the PGA Championship, a tournament that he would eventually win? Well, Sandler and his writers made hay out of that, but more significantly, Scheffler played to it perfectly.

After the movie punch-out, Scheffler is pictured in a jail cell, in an orange jail suit, as a guard asks, since he has been in that cell for three days, if he wants to get out. Scheffler replies, “Ah, what’s for dinner?” When he is told chicken fingers, he says, “I think I’ll stay another night.”

Now, of course, none of that is knee-slapping stuff, but it is Scheffler, and the self-effacing comedy is a perfect image-enhancer, even if it is only in a stupid movie. It is so much better for golf fans to see Scheffler as a roll-with-the-punches fun guy, than an emotionless, ball-striking robot. Neither is totally accurate, but in this media world of image-is-everything, “Happy Gilmore 2” has done wonderful things for this wonderful golfer. Even moreso, for his sport

He will be all over your TV screens for the three-week FedEx playoffs. It starts Aug. 7 with a tournament in Memphis, followed by the next week in Baltimore and the grand finale Aug. 21 in East Lake, Ga., near Atlanta. For the playoffs, the PGA will distribute $100 million in prize money and the winner will receive $10 million.

Scheffler, a likely winner, would then certainly be invited to appear on TV, especially the late-night shows such as Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon. This would present another great image-building opportunity. He could show up in an orange jump suit.

McIlroy is eyeing another Major title after he ended his 11-year drought by winning the Masters in April.

The golf icon failed to make the cut in 2019 when The Open was last hosted at Portrush.

Shane Lowry was victorious when the tournament was last played on the prestigious Northern Irish course.

To this day, it’s Lowry’s only Major win, and he will be looking to repeat history this week.

Is Tiger Woods playing at The Open 2025?

Tiger Woods will NOT feature at the 153rd Open as he continues to recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

His absence means the three-time Claret Jug winner will have missed all four of the annual Major tournaments.

Woods last competed in a PGA Tour event 12 months ago, when The Open was held at Royal Troon.

The 15-time Major champion missed the cut in his last outing.
