While “60 Minutes” will soon have a new owner, the CBS newsmagazine’s next executive producer is coming from inside the family.

Tanya Simon, a 25-year veteran of the program, will take on the role vacated by Bill Owens in April. She has served as interim executive producer since his departure.

She is the daughter of the late Bob Simon, one of the best known correspondents during the program’s 57 year history.

Changes at the top of “60 Minutes” have been rare. Simon will be only the fourth executive producer in the program’s history and the first woman.

Simon’s appointment will be a relief to the program’s staff, where morale has been rocked by parent company Paramount Global’s battle with President Trump. The correspondents of the program signed a letter to company co-chairman George Cheeks urging him to give Simon the job.

Simon will have the backing of her colleagues who are thankful they won’t be dealing with an outsider who might not value the program’s editorial rigor and independence. But she will be faced with the challenge of navigating the operation after one of the most difficult periods in its history.

Paramount Global agreed to pay $16 million to settle Trump’s lawsuit against “60 Minutes” over the editing of an interview with his 2024 opponent, then-Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump claimed the interviews was deceptively edited to aid Harris in the election.

The case was labeled as frivolous by 1st Amendment experts and the settlement widely seen as a capitulation to Trump in order to clear a path for Paramount’s $8-billion merger with David Ellison’s Skydance Media.

While “60 Minutes” did not issue an apology or acknowledge any wrongdoing, the program is likely to face intense scrutiny going forward. Critics will be looking for signs of the program pulling its punches in reporting on Trump. In order to clear the Paramount Global deal with the FCC, Skydance has agreed to name a news division ombudsman that will report to the company’s president for at least the next two years.

Simon got her start at CBS News in 1996 as a researcher for its other newsmagazine “48 Hours.” She joined “60 Minutes” in 2000, working with correspondent Ed Bradley on a variety of reports including the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. She went on to produce for nearly all of the program’s correspondents including her father.

Her work has earned virtually every major broadcast honor, including multiple Emmy Awards, the Peabody and the DuPont-Columbia Award.

Northern Ireland boss Tanya Oxtoby believes their 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Nations League in Zenica shows the “growth” of her side.

Captain Simone Magill’s composed finish was cancelled out by Sofija Krajsumovic’s equaliser for Bosnia, but NI saw out the draw which secured second place in the group and a promotion play-off.

That is an improvement on their third-place finish in the last edition of the Nations League, and despite the nervy nature of the draw, Oxtoby praised the application of her players to grind out a result.

“It’s always a difficult place to come with the travel, I thought we should have scored a few more in the first half and we conceded a sloppy one, but to show the character to see the game out that’s all that matters at this point,” she said.

“In international football there are no easy games, I said all along every game was going to be competitive in this group and you have to show the character and resilience.

“You have to win when it’s not pretty and get results when it’s not pretty and we’ve certainly done that when there have been times previously when we haven’t, so for me, that is growth.”

Northern Ireland manager Tanya Oxtoby says she is “really excited” by the inclusion of 16-year-old goalkeeper Abbie Smith in her squad for the forthcoming Nations League games against Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Smith has been named in the senior squad for the first time after joining Manchester City on a two-year scholarship from Crusaders Strikers in March.

The teenager was brought in to train with the squad last month but is now officially part of the panel after impressing the NI boss.

Northern Ireland sit second in Group B1, four points behind the table-topping Poles before the final pair of fixtures.

They will play the unbeaten group leaders at Seaview in Belfast on Friday, 30 May and then travel to Zenica to face third-placed Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday, 3 June.

“Abbie came in and she was seamless in relation to training intensity, being in and around the group and the maturity that she showed,” said Oxtoby.

“There’s no doubting her talent so that was really impressive. The main thing when we’re looking at the younger players coming in is are they ready for that senior environment?”

Oxtoby has involved other young players in recent squads also, including Aimee Kerr, Abi Sweetlove, Keri Halliday and Kascie Weir.

“They’re all playing really well and they add a lot. They add a lot of quality to our group,” she added.

“We know their ability says they are, but from a cultural and an emotional point of view, are they ready? There are elements of that we need to appreciate are quite difficult for young players to come into.

“Our job is to support them in that and Abbie has really impressed in that area. We’re really excited to see how she goes in a full camp.”

Tanya Bardsley has been left shocked after masked men attempted to break into her home. The Real Housewives of Cheshire star has told how her home in the leafy region was targeted by the masked men on Friday night.

The former model has taken to social media, sharing video footage of one son, Rocco, 16, standing on the driveway of the family home alongside two police officers and a member of a private security firm. Tanya, 44, and her family, including husband, Macclesfield assistant manager Phil, 39, were at home with their children when the incident occurred.

It’s believed that police were alerted about the attempted break-in after it was flagged on Tanya and Phil’s home security system, which is monitored by an external company. Taking to Instagram, Tanya shared a video showing a police car parked outside the gates of her home as the police spoke on their radios.

“Two masked men in Wilmslow lock your doors put your cameras on and call police if you see them,” she said. Tanya added: “Thank God for @tarussecuritygroup.” Now, a source has claimed that while the family were at home, they were fortunate enough that the break-in failed and nobody was injured.

“The family was home at the time, but luckily nobody was harmed,” a source told The Sun. The source went on to add: “Security and police turned up as fast they could, but the two masked men got away.”

The Mirror has approached Tanya and Cheshire Police for comment. Tanya and Phil are not the only stars of the Real Housewives franchise to be targeted by brazen thieves. Her former co-star, Nicole Sealey, was left shaken in 2022 when armed robbers gained access to her Cheshire home with crowbars.

It’s believed that the armed thieves who entered Nicole’s home, which she shares with her husband, former footballer Joe, went straight for their valuables, which included Nicole’s engagement and wedding rings as well as several Rolex watches. The scary incident comes after Tanya and Phil opened up to the Mirror about their decision to open their doors for the cameras once again, but on their own reality show.

Previously, former Manchester United FC legend Phil had ruled out appearing on their own programme but reluctantly gave in to pressures from his family. “We had to wear him down,” said Tanya when asked on how she persuaded Phil to take part. She went on to add: “Complete peer pressure from the whole family but we got there.” Although both have had glittering careers, Tanya admits that having their own show was “a lot harder” than shows, including Housewives.

“Even when I’m not filming, I’ve got to be there for the kids filming. It was a lot, but I’ve loved it,” she said. But having both been in the business since 2003, Tanya admits that the biggest thing she’s learnt about herself – she “can’t keep her mouth shut,” as Phil joked: “That’s nothing new, is it?” This is seen in one episode, with Tanya oversharing with some of her friends about Phil’s manscaping.

“Phil’s got a d**k-fringe,” she laughed. Explaining the bombshell, Tanya revealed: “He was in the shower for a long time, obviously he had a razor and he got a bit experimental. He walked out and he’s got a d**k-fringe. I told Jenny Powell this. As soon as it came out, I was like ‘S**t, he’s going to kill me!’ because I’d said it on camera, I had to tell him on camera that I said it.

“He took it well.” Although he’s been married to Tanya since 2014, Phil admitted: “Nothing surprises us with Tanya, with what comes out of her mouth.” She joked that she often told her Housewives co-stars about Phil’s manhood and joked he should be proud, as she would also tell them if it wasn’t up to scratch.

“I appreciate the compliment,” Phil joked. When asked about their relationship, Phil joked that he was there to “put fires out” after Tanya’s hilarious outbursts. This show will be different to how Tanya has been seen on TV as she won’t be getting “dolled up” all the time, only when she’s heading on a night out.

“We’re slouching around, the crew have become sort of part of the family, we don’t do scenes – we’re just being us,” she said. Phil added: “It’s more off the cuff stuff is what people want to see.”
