Nadine Coyle misses out on huge charity prize as she’s stumped by Celebrity Catchphrase

Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle competed against EastEnders star Jake Wood and presenter Rick Edwards on the new series of Celebrity Catchphrase, hosted by Stephen Mulhern

Celebrity Catchphrase finalist Nadine Coyle walked away with £30,000 for charity on the latest series of the ITV show. The Girls Aloud member had been just one correct answer away from a jackpot of more than £50,000, though.

Nadine, 40, competed on the game show, which is hosted by Stephen Mulhern, 48, in an episode that aired earlier in the new series. She made it through to the final round after banking more money than TV presenter Rick Edwards and EastEnders actor Jake Wood in the previous rounds.

She took part in raising money for the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal, which is part of the Christie Charity. It’s named in memory of her late bandmate Sarah Harding, who died, aged 39, in 2021, just a year after announcing that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

After banking £5,000 earlier in the episode, which debuted in April, Nadine managed to add £30,000 to her winnings for the charity in the final round. She however ran out of time whilst trying to name the final catchphrase, which would have taken her prize fund up to £55,000 had she got it right.

The catchphrase began by showing a pair of legs, which had a road covered in cars, travelling down a running track in an arena. Mr Chips was then shown running past and reaching the finish line first, indicating that he had won instead.

Nadine had 15 seconds left when the catchphrase first played, after four correct answers and one pass earlier in the round. She made a series of guesses as she tried to secure the maximum £50,000 for getting to the top of the pyramind.

As the final video played, Nadine guessed: “Runway … um … pass … running past the runway … running free … winning the runway.” After a close-up of the cars was shown, she said during the last few seconds of the round: “Bumper to bumper.”

After the countdown ended, Stephen confirmed that she had won £25,000 in that round alone. He told her: “I am more over the moon than you could ever imagine. That was incredible.” The host went on to reveal the correct answer.

He shared: “It wasn’t a runway. He’s beating the traffic.” Nadine responded by saying: “Oh, beating the traffic.” Stephen however encouraged her to focus on the fact that she had won a significant prize fund for her charity.

Stephen said: “That moment has now gone. Let’s think of happy thoughts, because, Nadine, you’re talking away the £5,000 that you banked earlier on, now that £25,000 – which takes your total prize money, an incredible amount, to £30,000.”

It was also announced that because she had correctly named the star catchphrase, placed in the middle of the pyramid, that she had doubled the winnings of her former rivals. It meant that Jake and Rick won £3,400 and £9,400 respectively for their charities.

Baffling riddle from ITV’s 1% Club leaves majority stumped – can you solve it?

People have been left scratching their heads after trying this tricky brainteaser that only 1% of people can answer successfully – do you have what it takes to solve it?

If you can solve this baffling riddle, you could be able to consider yourself among the top 1% of brains in the country – as a staggering 99% will fail to get the answer correct.

Solving brainteasers is a fantastic way to boost your cognitive function and give your brain a much-needed workout, which is as important for your body as regular exercise is for keeping you physically fit. Puzzles can improve your problem-solving skills, improve your pattern recognition, and can even help to stave off the onset of some degenerative diseases such as dementia – so they’re definitely worth a go if you have a spare couple of minutes.

This particular puzzle was set by the question writers on the ITV game show The 1% Club. In the show, the questions start off easy, with ones that 90% of people can solve, and go all the way down to the dreaded 1% question that’s deemed so difficult that 99% of people fail to get it right.

And one recent 1% question that was asked on the show was later shared on TikTok, where it left people scratching their heads as they struggled to solve it.

The question was this: What new word links the capitalised words below?

“My SON TED ate raw FOOD and got SICK, then went to BED with me by his SIDE.”

You’ll need to think outside the box for this one. There are numerous ways the words could be “linked”, and you’ll need to work out what the connection is. Do they all have something in common? Can they all have letters added to the beginning or the end to create new words?

Don’t worry if it looks confusing. The puzzle is designed to be complicated, and there’s no shame in not being able to solve this one. Part of the fun of completing these brainteasers is learning what the pattern is, so that the next time you take one of these on, you’ll know what to look for!

If you think you can give this one a crack, though, keep studying it for as long as you need. Contestants on the show only get a short 30 seconds to solve each question, but you don’t have to be that strict with yourself unless you really want to show your skills.

Whenever you’re ready to see the answer, scroll down to find out if you were right.

Answer

The answer is the word “sea”. Each capitalised word in the sentence can be preceded by the word “sea” to make a new word, such as season, seated, seafood, seasick, seabed, and seaside.

Several people in the comments of the TikTok video were tripped up by the confusing question, with some coming up with strange answers that were far from accurate.

One person said: “Son and Ted are both human (they can get sick), Food and Sick (also connect because bad food can cause sickness, Bed and Side (can also be connected with health), the issue is Sickness is not a new word!”

Another simply responded: “Bedside.”

However, many others believed the answer was “obvious”, with some even saying they couldn’t see why the question was deemed too difficult for all but 1% of people.

The 1% Club players stumped on tricky maths question as 13 players pass – but could you have got it right?

THE 1% Club left contestants scratching their heads after a devilishly tricky maths question saw just 13 players pass just to make it through.

Instead of testing players on their general knowledge, 100 contestants try their luck at solving riddles within 30 seconds.

On The 1% Club, they are whittled down round by round as they are tasked with using their logic, reasoning skills, and common sense.

With every player that gets eliminated, £1,000 gets added to the prize pot as the players try to answer questions that certain percentages of the public would get right.

The players that remain at the end will fight to win a potentially huge jackpot prize and a chance at joining the prestigious one percent club.

But the the 35% question saw a whopping 13 players use their pass.

Lee showed a picture of a coloured pie chart with numbers and asked: “What number replaces the question mark when you read it clockwise from the start?”

The remaining players faces looked puzzled as they tried to figure out the answer within the 30 seconds.

Lee then revealed the right answer was 27 as they alternate segments reveal consecutive multiples of three and 27 is the next number in the three times table.

Lee was stunned to see that a massive 13 players used their pass to get through to the next round.

The episode also saw an ‘easy’ common sense riddle knock out 23 people earlier on in the show.

The 1% Club players stumped by ‘easy’ question that knocks out 23 people – would you have got it-

When Lee moved onto the 70% question, he asked the remaining players to solve a question.

Lee said: “John writes with his right hand and the last word he’d right if he was writing this sentence would be be.

“If Keith writes with his left hand, what would be the last word he would write in the sentence above?”

Of course the answer was the word ‘be’, as a different writing hand would not change the last word, something which many viewers playing along got correct.

Hardest Quiz Show Questions

Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV’s hardest questions

  • Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the “worst” question in the show’s history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000.
  • The 1% Club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: “Edna’s birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen’s birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir’s birthday must be the ‘X’ of January.” It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir’s birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence.
  • The Chase – The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: “Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots – with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes.

However, a whopping 23 players in the studio answered the riddle incorrectly and they were eliminated from the game.

Viewers took to social media in droves as they couldn’t believe so many players left the game after such an ‘easy’ question

One wrote: “How t* have 23 gone out?? Being left handed doesn’t mean you write words in the wrong order.”

Another added: “Too many people thinking too hard on that one #The1PercentClub.”

A third penned: “TWENTY THREE out on THAT?!?!”

The 1% Club is available to watch on ITV1 and stream on ITVX.
