‘You saved my life’ – Stephen Graham’s emotional message to wife as he wins first Golden Globe

British actor Stephen Graham won his first ever Golden Globe for Netflix’s Adolescence, telling his wife ‘you saved my life’ in an emotional acceptance speech at the ceremony

British acting legend Stephen Graham OBE has bagged his first ever Golden Globe award.

After a career filled with hard-hitting performances, the Kirkby-born star scooped up his inaugural gong for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for his leading role in the Netflix smash-hit Adolescence.

The Netflix limited series is currently enjoying a victory lap of Hollywood on Monday night, with the British-produced programme written by Graham, who also starred in the show.

The Line of Duty actor appeared genuinely shocked as he was presented with the award in the ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hilton in Los Angeles.

The audience erupted as the actor, writer and show creator quickly composed himself, praising his fellow nominees and acknowledging the cast and crew who helped make Adolescence one of Netflix’s biggest British successes, reports the Daily Star.

However, it was Graham’s heartfelt tribute to his family that truly silenced the room.

Turning to his wife, he simply said: “You saved my life.”

Then, addressing his children, he added: “To my two beautiful kids, Grace and Alfie – I love you to the moon and back forever.”

Despite the monumental win, Graham later quipped that his children weren’t particularly impressed by the shiny new trophy.

It turns out they were far more thrilled by something else entirely: their father’s encounter with Snoop Dogg.

Chatting backstage with Associated Press, the typically composed actor confessed he was utterly starstruck following his run-in with the hip-hop legend.

“He shook my hand, and he looked me right in the eyes – couldn’t see his eyes because he had his glasses on – and said, ‘You’re a mother***** gangster,’*” Graham said. “My life is complete.”

Thus far, Adolescence has swept the board for the Brits.

Erin Doherty secured Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, whilst teenage phenomenon Owen Cooper made history earlier in the evening by becoming the youngest ever Golden Globe winner. Adolescence also claimed the gong for Best Limited Series.

Stephen A. Smith doubles down on calling ICE shooting ‘justified’

Stephen A. Smith is arguably the most-well known sports commentator in the country. But the outspoken ESPN commentator’s perspective outside the sports arena has landed him in a firestorm.

The furor is due to his pointed comments defending an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot a Minneapolis woman driving away from him.

Just hours after the shooting on Wednesday, Smith said on his SiriusXM “Straight Shooter” talk show that although the killing of Renee Nicole Good was “completely unnecessary,” he added that the agent “from a lawful perspective” was “completely justified” in firing his gun at her.

He also noted, “From a humanitarian perspective, however, why did he have to do that?”

Smith’s comments about the agent being in harm’s way echoed the views of Deputy of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who said Good engaged in an “act of domestic terrorism” by attacking officers and attempting to run them over with her vehicle.

However, videos showing the incident from different angles indicate that the agent was not standing directly in front of Good’s vehicle when he opened fire on her. Local officials contend that Good posed no danger to ICE officers. A video posted by partisan media outlet Alpha News showed Good talking to agents before the shooting, saying, “I’m not mad at you.”

The shooting has sparked major protests and accusations from local officials that the presence of ICE has been disruptive and escalated violence. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frye condemned ICE, telling agents to “get the f— out of our city.”

The incident, in turn, has put a harsher spotlight on Smith, raising questions on whether he was reckless or irresponsible in offering his views on Good’s shooting when he had no direct knowledge of what had transpired.

An angered Smith appeared on his “Straight Shooter” show on YouTube on Friday, saying the full context of his comments had not been conveyed in media reports, specifically calling out the New York Post and media personality Keith Olbermann, while saying that people were trying to get him fired.

He also doubled down on his contention that Good provoked the situation that led to her death, saying the ICE agent was in front of Good’s car and would have been run over had he not stepped out of the way.

“In the moment when you are dealing with law enforcement officials, you obey their orders so you can get home safely,” he said. “Renee Good did not do that.”

When reached for comment about his statements, a representative for Smith said his response was in Friday’s show.

It’s not the first time Smith, who has suggested he’s interesting in going into politics, has sparked outside the sports universe. He and journalist Joy Reid publicly quarreled following her exit last year from MSNBC.

He also faced backlash from Black media personalities and others when he accused Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas of using “street verbiage” in her frequent criticisms of President Trump.

“The way that Jasmine Crockett chooses to express herself … Aren’t you there to try and get stuff done instead of just being an impediment? ‘I’m just going to go off about Trump, cuss him out every chance I get, say the most derogatory things imaginable, and that’s my day’s work?’ That ain’t work! Work is, this is the man in power. I know what his agenda is. Maybe I try to work with this man. I might get something out of it for my constituents.’ ”

Stephen Mulhern’s ITV show with Ant and Dec future confirmed after just one series

The emotional one-off special last year saw Stephen Mulhern break down in tears.

ITV has commissioned three more Accidental Tourist specials which will see Stephen Mulhern joined by Ant and Dec in a bid to face more of his fears and phobias.

During an episode which aired late last year, the presenter travelled to South Korea and filmed emotional scenes as he reflected on the death of his dad.

Speaking about his late dad, Christopher, Stephen broke down in tears, saying: “As a family, we know what we like and that’s what we do, and we always have. I am scared, I find my phobias so frustrating, but it’s time to make change, and the change is now.”

The episode saw Stephen attempt to overcome his food phobias and fear of the sea, and continued after mentioning his late father: “If I was to tell my dad this, my dad passed away at the start of the year…sorry.” Struggling to get his words out, he whispered: “He wouldn’t believe it. I hope… he’d be proud.”

ITV has now confirmed Stephen will embark on an unknown journey and leave behind his creature comforts.

The broadcaster teased: “Travelling to South Korea opened Stephen’s eyes to a brand new culture, but there is still a long way to go.

“The trip proved such a success that Stephen made some much needed changes to his life back in the UK, but he’s slipping back into his old ways.

“Not wanting to undo the impressive progress he’d already made during his trip to South Korea, Stephen has decided he needs to spread his wings further and who better to help once again than his close pals Ant and Dec.

“With their support, further encouragement from his family and a little help from social media, Stephen will again find himself thrust into the unknown as he attempts to navigate unfamiliar territories in the hope to quell some of his life limiting phobias.”

Stephen shared: “The response to my trip to South Korea has been so overwhelming and the amount of people that related to the worries and fears I have has blown me away.

“I was so proud of what I achieved that I planned to book a trip to Japan on my return, but what did I do instead? I booked an all inclusive trip to the Algarve!

“I don’t want to undo the good work I achieved so I’ve asked Ant and Dec to help me again. I need that little loving shove in the right direction, otherwise I fear I’ll slip back into my old ways.

“I’m still scared but this time I’m a little excited too, I know I can do this…. Or at least give it a good go!”

Ant said: “We are so proud of Stephen, we never thought he would accomplish what he did in South Korea – if we’re honest, we weren’t even sure he’d get on the plane! We loved seeing how much of a positive impact the trip had on his life, but we’ve noticed his old ways creeping back in… so when he said he was up for another trip, we were only too happy to oblige.

Dec added: “Unbeknown to Stephen, we have a long list of places we’d love him to experience that will hopefully help him get over more of his fears and phobias, which we know he’s keen to try and conquer. We can’t wait to see what he will accomplish during his next adventures!”

Sue Murphy, Director of Factual Entertainment and Kate Teckman, Head of Development and Commissioning Editor also said, “We are delighted to be building on the success of the Accidental Tourist with Ant and Dec and Stephen with this exciting new series. The audience has clearly enjoyed seeing them together in a new light in such a personal project, as have we.”

Accidental Tourist is available to watch on ITVX

World Darts Championship 2026: Stephen Bunting says 13-year-old son receiving online abuse

Stephen Bunting said he has been left “hurt” after his son was the victim of online abuse.

World number four Bunting, 40, was knocked out of the 2026 PDC World Darts Championship on Saturday with a dramatic 4-3 loss to world number 63 James Hurrell.

Bunting’s son, 13, was in attendance at Alexandra Palace and was shown regularly on television cameras passionately supporting his father during his dramatic loss in seven sets.

Posting on X for the first time since Saturday’s exit, Bunting said the abuse his son has received has been “hurtful” for the whole family.

“Hi guys. Sorry I’ve had a few days away from my socials but I just needed a small bit of time after my game to recover and rest,” Bunting posted.

“I love my family so much and they give me massive motivation to continue this journey. I still believe I have a lot to give darts over the rest of my career and I want to make them forever proud.

“They see the negative comments and do their best to make sure I don’t see them – and even [my son] has had some hate from some of the trolls online, which really is hurtful for us as a family.

“[He] is one of the nicest kids you could wish to meet and I’ll be doing a lot more social stuff with him this coming year.”

Stephen’s son regularly appears alongside his father at events on and off the oche, including Bunting’s social media pages.

The Bullet’s defeat to Hurrell could cost him an automatic qualification spot for the 2026 Premier League Darts campaign, with Bunting likely to drop outside the world’s top four following his early tournament exit.
