‘She just wants lunchables’ parents howl as dad shares kid’s lunch that ‘costs more than rent’ with caviar & steak

WITH the new school year right around the corner, millions of parents are back to looking for lunch inspiration for their kids.

While fresh fruit, a sarnie and yoghurt are go-to picks for many families, one ”stay-at-home-dad” has left the internet stunned with his kid’s packed lunch.

Foodie Tyler Yan regularly shares mouth-watering recipes on his TikTok, such as the viral Japanese Sando with strawberries and refreshing smoothie bowls for his wife.

But it’s not just Tyler’s partner who gets to enjoy his talent at cooking – their daughter, too, gets treated to luxury lunch boxes for school.

In a now-viral video posted on social media, the stay-at-home dad revealed he gave his daughter three glass jars full of fresh caviar which he served on ice to keep it cold.

The bizarre lunch also included crackers, a generous amount of cream cheese, which he hoped the girl would enjoy with smoked salmon.

For dessert, the child was given fresh figs – a lunch that ”sounded good”.

”Felt like a solid Wednesday move,” Tyler wrote in the caption.

The daughter, whose age is unknown, indeed gets to experience the finest things in life, as another clip saw Tyler filling her lunch box with octopus.

The ”Mediterranean-style box” also came with herby lemon quinoa, tomato cucumber salad, fresh figs, and marinated olives on the side.

On a different day, the girl went to school with a fresh arugula salad topped with cheese and steak cooked to perfection.

The epic lunch box, he shared in the video, also consisted of truffle fries, sauteed shiitake mushrooms, as well as sliced apples with peanut butter for something sweet.

Mum slams parents buying back to school gifts & ‘balloon arches’ saying ‘a present anytime anything happens’ is a joke

But while Tyler created the jaw-dropping lunches with love and care, social media users weren’t so sure if his daughter actually enjoyed them.

Thousands of TikTokers insisted that the child must be trading her lunches with other kids and were in disbelief how luxe the food was.

”That lunch costs more than my rent,” one person thought about the caviar-rich box, which has racked up over 19million views.

The pink coloured golden sponge cake, which is filled with raspberry jam and topped and decorated with pale pink and dark pink buttercream, cost Amy just £18.

Then, using some pink icing and ribbons she already had, she was able to personalise the cake – and we think it looks incredibly professional.

Alongside a short clip shared online, the influencer penned: “Making my daughter’s first birthday cake, saving £100s!”

Showing off the box-fresh vintage-style cake, which is decorated with whirls and swirls of piping, Amy beamed: “Come with me to DIY my daughter’s first birthday cake for only £18!”

Amy confirmed that she used letter cutters to cut out “Myla is one” in pink icing, which she placed on top of the cake.

Following this, she attached pretty pink bows, which she already had from Shein, and was able to stick these to the cake with cocktail sticks.

The mega supermarket – which currently runs its epic 25%-off fashion sale – is offering customers Maltesers treats for as little as 18p.

Some of the bargain buys you can snap up on the cheap include Maltesers Mini Bunnies down from £1.85 to just 46p.

Another treat to look out for next time you’re popping in to get all the essentials is Maltesers Popcorn Easter Bunny.

This sugary treat, which is perfect for lunch boxes or a picnic, is on offer for a mere 18p, down from 75p.

While some may worry that these chocolates will expire soon, bargain-mad Tesco shoppers have reassured that the Best Before date it still months away.

One customer, Toni-May Clare, took to Facebook to share the sweet deal, writing: ”Maltesers bunnies in Tesco, all dated to Nov and Dec 2025.”

The post, uploaded on the popular Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, has since taken the platform by storm, winning Toni-May close to 80 likes in less than 24 hours.

Fellow customers flooded to comments, where one revealed the retailer had even more deals to hunt down.

”Saw these today too, plus the Reese’s, Daim and Dairy milk bags of little eggs for the same price.

That works out at just 14p per bar — but some shoppers aren’t convinced they’re worth the price.

How to save money on chocolate

We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don’t have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

One user commented: “They’re nasty lol.”

“Nothing special about it, I wouldn’t waste your money,” another wrote.

This shopper added: “Looks like someone smashed peas into the chocolate.”

“Not sure why everyone is raving on about this chocolate,” a fourth said.

Shoppers should visit their nearest Home Bargains to buy the discounted treats.

People are realising how crab sticks are made as they brand them ‘hot dogs of the sea’ and vow to never eat them again

THE HUMBLE crab stick has been popular since the 80s tossed in salad, now they seem to have had a resurgence as people add them to ramen or seafood boils.

The food has often been used as a cheap alternative to crabs but fans are vowing to never eat them again.

It comes after foodies have just realised how the crab sticks, also known as imitation crab, are really made.

After seeing the process of how the red and white sticks are processed some have dubbed them the ‘hot dog of the ocean.’

It comes after a Thai crab stick factory revealed their manufacturing secrets through a YouTube video, reports the Mirror.

It showed the transformation from unappetising grey blocks to the familiar red-and-white striped sticks seen in shops.

Initially resembling massive, grey, concrete-like slabs, the frozen fish meat blocks undergo several stages before becoming edible.

They’re first pulverised by machinery into a mushy mix, then carried along a conveyor belt where salt and various spices are infused.

Next ice, vegetable oil, and sugars are blended in.

The footage shows factory workers funnelling the mixture through a tube, which turns it into a grey paste which is then shaped and coloured to achieve the iconic crab stick appearance.

The Thai factory boasts being the globe’s largest, churning out 40,000 tons of fish sticks annually – that’s quadruple the weight of the Eiffel Tower. It sells to more than 37 nations.

But it seems the video has put people off of the snack.

My budget’s so strict I pray at the till on my food shop – this week I did it for a family of 4 for £100, here’s my haul

Taking to Reddit, people shared their disgust after witnessing the video.

One person wrote: “Hot dogs of the sea”.

Another commented: “The only ingredient I could identify was the ice”.

Humorously addressing the unappetising mush, a comment read: “Everything ok hun? You’ve hardly touched your grey.”

A fourth penned: “Bet that place smells wonderful”.

Another person noted: “If the title hadn’t specified they were making crab sticks, or in fact any type of food, I would’ve gotten to 1:38 before I realised that they weren’t making some sort of industrial building material.”

More things people are only just realising…
