Raunchy period drama adapted from novel banned for ‘steamy scenes’ streaming now

A period drama that will leave audiences hot under the collar is streaming now, after fans have enjoyed one drama deemed “sublime” and another hailed the “alternative Austen”.

The BBC series is just one of many adaptations of a novel that was banned due to the social mores of the time.

However, this version has been praised by many viewers for capturing the spirit of the book.

One 10/10 review on IMDb read: “A truly masterful performance for all involved. I did not even know this existed until recently and I sat to watch it in one sitting.”

Another person praised the show’s aesthetics in their review: “An excellent work of art in a long and expertly made movie. Being almost totally visual, I must admit I’m carried away by visually beautiful movies, and this one is tops.”

A third person titled their review: “A beautiful, complicated love story I enjoyed” and explained: “This movie was very enjoyable as well as instructive.

“It was enjoyable because it was so faithful to the most popular version of the story and instructive about how people conducted their lives after WW1 in England.”

Lady Chatterley came out in 1993, and charted the passionate affair between an upper-class woman, Constance Chatterley (played by Joely Richardson) and her working-class groundskeeper, Oliver Mellors (Sean Bean).

Constance and Mellors initially had an arrangement whereby she would fall pregnant and claim the child was her injured WWI veteran husband Sir Clifford Chatterley’s (James Wilby) child.

However, the agreement quickly gave way to feelings between Constance and Mellors, with their affair marking a sexual and spiritual awakening for her.

The show has won praise for its depiction of the novel and also leading man Bean.

One person commented on IMDb: “This is the definitive Lady Chatterley’s Lover” and the noted: “After having seen all the film adaptations of Lady Chatterley’s Lover 1981 onwards, in my opinion none of them can hold a candle to (this) Ken Russell’s version. It has beauty, poetry, squalor and vision.”

Another audience member urged viewers to watch Lady Chatterley for Bean and said the series “belongs” to him, “who gets his teeth in and doesn’t let go”.

Someone else commented: “Sean Bean Amazes Yet Again” and elaborated: “I have followed his career since seeing the Sharpe’s episodes and in everything he is in, he takes the part and makes it his own. A simply wonderful effort and a beautifully touching love story.”

The four-part series was adapted from D.H. Lawrence’s 1928 novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover, which was banned in the UK, America, Australia, India, Japan, and other countries for obscenity.

It wasn’t until 1960 with the outcome of the British obscenity trial R v Penguin Books Ltd that people in the UK were finally able to read the novel. Unsurprisingly, the book quickly became a bestseller after its lengthy censorship.

The novel had been banned in Britain after it was deemed indecent and immoral due to its sexual content and explicit language.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover also featured an inter-class romance, which was taboo at the time given Britain’s rigid social structure, not to mention featuring an extramarital affair.

The novel has been published privately in the late 1920s in France and Italy, the BBC reported, but was censored by others after this.

EastEnders hit with ‘inappropriate sexual content’ complaints after raunchy scene

EastEnders has received a number of complaints from viewers after they aired one raunchy scene between Alfie and Kat Moon earlier this summer

The BBC has been hit with complaints over one raunchy EastEnders scene, which aired earlier this year. This summer, fans watched on as Alfie and Kat Moon tied the knot for the third time. Kat hoped to get a little bit of action before the big day, but was left disappointed when Alfie wasn’t up to it. It came after the character suffered from erectile dysfunction after undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

In the scene, which aired on June 10, Kat undid her beige trench coat, showing off some revealing leopard print lingerie. She then grabbed her husband-to-be, as the two began passionately kissing. It comes after an EastEnders legend was rushed to hospital after a deadly attack by a familiar face.

However, Alfie later rejected Kat’s advances before things went any further, telling her he’d made them dinner. Kat seemed like she’d had enough as she asked Alfie: “How are we supposed to get married if you can’t even bear to touch me?”

She then stormed out of the house, later finding a porn site on the family laptop. It was later revealed that their son Tommy was the one watching porn, although viewers knew it was Joel who introduced him to the site.

Despite no action taking place, it’s been revealed that the BBC did receive complaints about the scene.

The broadcaster recently published its list of complaints, which showed a grievance for “inappropriate sexual content” during the episode which aired on June 10.

However, the BBC reviewed the complaint and decided it was “not upheld,” as the content was not inappropriate.

Things are set to heat up in the Moon household in the coming weeks, as Zoe Slater is set to make her permanent return to the Square.

A trailer released by the BBC soap earlier today teased the first confrontation between the estranged mother and daughter duo, with Kat looking stunned as she comes face-to-face with Zoe for the first time.

Zoe made her shock return earlier this year but quickly left to go to Barcelona after a close run-in with Kat. Alfie then went to find her behind Kat’s back, but unfortunately came back alone.

Kat is still unaware that both Alfie and Stacey have been in contact with her daughter, but from the explosive new trailer, it looks like she may be about to find out very soon…

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

TUI family holiday ruined after raunchy behaviour and finding ‘vomit in pool’

A family looking forward to a two-week holiday at a five-star hotel in Jamaica were left shocked after an adults-only festival hosted by the resort led to ‘all hell breaking loose’

Liverpool mum Katie had been eagerly looking forward to her TUI holiday in Jamaica, but says her stay there was ruined by raunchy guests who exhibited “sexual behaviour […] for all to see”.

During an appearance on BBC’s Rip Off Britain, Katie and her sister Rachel spoke of Jamaica as their “second home”, and somewhere where they regularly take their children to visit relatives.

According to Katie, whose husband lives in the Caribbean island nation, it’s important for her children to stay connected to their dual culture. She shared: “Jamaica is our second home. We’re really, really proud of the island and love the culture.”

Sadly, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the children hadn’t been able to visit their grandparents in Jamaica for two years. And so, the family booked a two-week stay at the Luxury Grand Palladium Resort and Spa in Montego Bay.

The group of 24 family and friends spent approximately £15,000 on their booking, which should have been a dream holiday. Unfortunately, things allegedly took a turn.

At first, the five-star hotel appeared perfect, with the group impressed by the delicious food, gorgeous grounds, and the great service provided by members of staff. The resort advertised plenty of family-friendly facilities, including watersports and a kids’ pool, and felt like the ideal place to bring little ones.

Then, four days into their stay, the tone changed when the group learned the hotel was hosting a four-day music festival, Fantasy Island. Marketed as an adults-only festival, Fantasy Island was attended by some 700 revellers, who apparently “didn’t care” whether or not their antics were suitable for children.

The sisters shared: “All hell broke loose. The main pool was overtaken. People were drinking like fish. It’s fine if it’s in a nightclub, not morning time around a pool with children. There was sexual behaviour going on at the pool bar for all to see. They didn’t care if there were children there.”

After Katie complained to the hotel manager and TUI rep, she was offered four free nights by the hotel, while TUI offered them £150 per person in vouchers or £100 in cash. They believe this compensation just wasn’t enough.

Katie and Rachel weren’t the only guests to take issue with the Fantasy Island event. NHS worker Emma Owen and her family were drawn to the hotel due to its family-friendly appeal, and paid £7,000 for an 11-night all-inclusive break. She recalled seeing attendees “vomit in the pool” as the festival got underway.

Travel expert Lisa Minot stated: “It really is down to the tour operator to inform their guests that there is going to be a significant change or impact on their holiday.”

A TUI spokesperson previously told the Daily Express: “We’re very sorry that some of our customers’ holidays were impacted by this unexpected event at the Grand Palladium Resort and Spa in August 2021.

“While the hotel did not make us aware in advance, we understand how upsetting this was, and have offered a refund for the full four days, along with our sincere apologies. We’d like to reassure customers that this hotel will no longer be hosting this event.”

The Mirror has reached out to TUI for additional comment.

Love Island fans furious over ‘double standards’ after Helena’s raunchy sex confession

LOVE Island viewers have been left outraged over ‘double standards’ following Helena’s raunchy sex confession.

It comes after fans called for a “misogynistic” star to be axed after a series of derogatory comments.

In yesterday’s episode, Helena admitted she previously had a threesome with two men.

Meanwhile, Harry, who she is currently coupled with, discussed this with the other lads.

It was during a boys’ night away from the villa, where they were met by three bombshells.

Those watching at home were not impressed and felt his remarks were unfair – while it came just a day after the pair snuck off to the Hideaway together to spend the night.

Harry told the others – unaware Helena was listening from the villa: “For me, with Helena, it’s like, I don’t know if she’s just a good time girl. Like, as I know, the more I’m getting to know her, like…

“I’m having a good time, but I wanna have a long time.

“What I’m learning about her lifestyle, and like, what she does, like, she goes out a lot. We had the conversations – you were all there. She had a threesome.

“I don’t think that really worries me. Because like, I can guarantee I’ve done worse, sort of thing. But I think it did surprise me a little bit.

“It’s not I wanted to take a step back or anything. It was just more like, okay, I need to learn more, just to figure out what she’s gonna really be like.”

Back in the villa, Helena raged:  “F**k me. Oh, my dirty laundry, is it?”

Harry continued:  “But if she’s still there, if she’s still in that phase of her life where it’s like, she wants to have a good time, then it might not be the right time for me and her.”

One fan said: “Yayyyy double standards.”

Another remarked: “He didn’t care about her background when they went to the hideaway.”

A third shared: “What’s Harry’s surname? Ah yes Double-Standard, my bad I forgot.”

While a fourth remarked: “Wow, the judgement of that boy when ‘hes done worse’ the putdown before the brag is wild! Must be from the insecurity of going thin in the front talking!”

A fifth chimed in: “Hmm double standards eh one rule for a guy and one for the girl.”

Elsewhere, Helena chose to recouple with Harry – despite him expressing an interest in Shakira still.
