‘Devastated’ Strictly star Vicky Pattison and dad Danny Dyer break silence after Dani quits BBC show with nasty injury

VICKY Pattison and Dani Dyer’s dad Danny have rallied around her after she was forced to quit Strictly Come Dancing due to injury.

Mum-of-three Dani was due to perform in her first live show on Saturday night with professional partner Nikita Kuzmin, but said: “I had a fall on Friday in rehearsals and landed funny.

“I thought I had rolled my foot but it swelled up badly over the weekend and after an MRI scan yesterday, it turns out I have fractured my ankle.”

Dani, 29, continued: “Apparently doing the Quickstep on a fracture is not advisable and the doctors have said I am not allowed to dance, so I’ve had to pull out of the show.

“To say I’m heartbroken is the biggest understatement.

“I am so going to miss dancing with Nikita but will of course be watching closely and cheering all the couples on.”

Her dad left a broken-heart emoji beneath her post, and Vicky replied, saying: “Absolutely devastated for you Dani.

“I’m going to miss you so much… Love you loads x”

The ex-Geordie Shore star added a string of photos of them together in a separate post on her Instagram grid.

She revealed they formed a close bond during their time together on the show.

Vicky said: “I am absolutely gutted for you!! I have loved every minute of our little @bbcstrictly journey together and I’m devastated this is the end..

Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood reveals his surprising ‘favourite’ star ahead of tomorrow’s launch

“But I know you’ll be back next year with your incredible energy, amazing dance skills and beautiful soul… AND YOU’LL SMASH IT!!!

“I’m already peanut butter and jealous of whatever lucky sod gets to be your dressing room buddy… because you’re the best roomie ever.

“Love you mate and wishing you a speedy recovery… this series won’t be the same without you…”

Dani replied: “Going to miss you, love you millions.”

Just days ago Dani shared her nerves ahead of the live shows.

She said last week: “I’m absolutely petrified about dancing live on Saturday nights.”

Speaking to The Sun about her upcoming Strictly adventure, she was asked if her famous dad Danny Dyer was going to watch – and if he would get emotional.

The mum-of-three revealed: “He’s going to. He will try and keep it together. Him and my mum are making a little date day of it.

“They’re coming on the launch show together. They’re really excited.”

Asked whether she could persuade The Football Factory star to do Strictly in the future, she said: “When it [Strictly] was announced, someone said Dani Dyer is doing it – they thought it was my dad. It’s not Danny Dyer – it’s the other one.

“I don’t know. You can never say never.”

‘I moved to Dubai for a different life, it was better but I got a nasty surprise’

Personal trainer Elbi Henshaw, 23, decided to move to Dubai with financial help from her parents after she began to find the United Kingdom “depressing”, but was in for a nasty surprise

A personal trainer, fed up with the “miserable” UK lifestyle, relocated to Dubai only to find herself working six days a week to afford life in the UAE city.

Elbi Henshaw, 23, made the move in January after holidaying there and realising how “depressing” her life was back in the UK.

Having previously worked in Saudi Arabia, Elbi, from Barnet, North London, she decided to give Dubai a try. With financial assistance from her parents, she secured full-time work at a gym.

Despite being settled and thriving in Dubai – a hotspot for British influencers due to its beautiful weather, stunning views and luxury nightlife – she admits missing UK pubs and pub culture eight months into her move.

Living in Dubai comes with its own challenges, including the high cost of living, with yoghurt costing £12 and coffee starting from £7. Elbi describes it as a “dog eat dog” lifestyle where people work six-day weeks and take on extra work to make ends meet, reports the Manchester Evening News.

While Elbi now loves her location, she admits she “didn’t like it at first” as it can feel “lonely” trying to establish a social circle in such a high-intensity environment.

Reflecting on her decision, Elbi said: “In the UK, I was so depressed and miserable and everyone is so sedentary – I wanted a more active lifestyle. Out here, everyone is happier and active and they all want to be the best versions of themselves.

“I work full time but it’s hard not to just spend all your money – you’d need about £5k a month here to live comfortably. But you can pick up extra work quite quickly – at the moment I work six days but I’ll probably end up working seven. Paying no tax is a perk but the cost of living out here is so expensive that it ends up the same as in the UK. But here, you get the sun and a much better lifestyle – although I miss the pubs.”

Elbi relocated to Dubai in January – initially residing in a studio flat before moving into shared accommodation with two other young women. After joining a local running club, she struck up a conversation with someone who put her in touch with a gym manager and landed her first Dubai role as a personal trainer.

She was instantly bowled over by the sheer amount the city had to offer – from fine dining at upmarket restaurants to browsing the renowned Dubai Mall. Given she was making the move solo, Elbi admitted the initial months proved challenging whilst getting established and sorting out the necessary paperwork and banking arrangements.

She quickly recognised the “fast paced and non-stop lifestyle” – with residents frequently clocking up lengthy working weeks to afford living in the glamorous destination beloved by A-listers.

Elbi explained: “The rent is more expensive than the UK and you have to pay big deposits on things like apartments and cars. Clothing is more expensive too – and coffee is like £7 minimum, sometimes as much as £10 a cup. I’d say the average salary for a normal person here is like £3,000 a month but you want more like £5,000 to live comfortably if you want to go out for meals, and buy new clothes.

“I try to work, work, work so that I can enjoy Dubai – there’s lots of group chats and apps for companies to advertise weekend work.” However, she revealed it doesn’t amount to significantly more in total than life in the UK – where you pay taxes – apart from Dubai’s incredible views and climate.

Eight months on, she’s absolutely adoring her new life there, grafting as a personal trainer at an upmarket gym frequented by “high end clients”. Now she’s established friendships and has no immediate intentions to head back.

She explained: “You have to put your ego aside and put yourself out there – I messaged other women out of the blue inviting them for coffee.”

She does enjoy the Dubai sunshine

Elbi revealed she adores Dubai’s pristine condition – as “everywhere is spotless” and “it makes you realise how dirty the UK is.” During her downtime from work, Elbi enjoys strolling around the air-conditioned shopping centre and visiting Dubai’s incredibly luxurious cinemas.

She fills her leisure time at the pool – beach clubs including Summersalt, adored by celebrities like Molly-Mae Hague and Kady McDermott, plus Twiggy club, favoured by Paris Hilton.

Yet she admitted Dubai can be challenging as there’s less of a “sense of community” for young people – making romance difficult without relying on dating apps. She explained: “It’s so hard to meet guys, because there’s no authentic meet-ups.

“People don’t stand in the streets around pubs – you have to schedule it in. And it’s hard to date as everyone is so busy 24/7 that you never find the time. I do miss the sense of community and pubs in the UK.

“I love it but I can’t really imagine meeting someone out here and it becoming serious. People come out here who already have a partner or family, and the ones that are single are never looking for anything serious.

“I could see myself building a life here but if I get to 27 and I’m not in a relationship, I’ll move back to the UK as I want to start a family.”

Fears over surge of ‘nasty disease’ on the way – as health officials identify two UK hotspots

HEALTH officials have warned a surge of a “nasty disease” could be on the way if vaccination isn’t prioritised.

Cases still remain high, particularly in two areas of the UK.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is urging patients to prioritise vaccine catch-up appointments this summer, with the latest data showing continued high levels of measles cases.

Fears have now been raised over a further surge once the new school term begins.

Measles activity has increased since April 2025, says the UKHSA.

The most recent figures show an additional 145 measles cases have been reported since the last report was published on July 3.

Cases continue to predominantly be in children under the age of 10 years, and London and the North West have been driving the increase most.

Since January 1, there have been 674 laboratory confirmed measles cases reported in England, with 48 per cent of these cases in London, 16 per cent in the North West, and 10 per cent in the East of England.

There’s also been a global increase in measles cases, including Europe, over the last year.

The UKHSA has also stressed holiday travel and international visits to see family this summer could lead to rising measles cases in England when the new school term begins.

Dr Vanessa Saliba, UKHSA Consultant Epidemiologist, said: “The summer months offer parents an important opportunity to ensure their children’s vaccinations are up to date, giving them the best possible protection when the new school term begins.

“It is never too late to catch up. Do not put it off and regret it later.

Powerful new video urges all parents to protect their children from surge of deadly Victorian disease as millions ‘at risk’

“Measles spreads very easily and can be a nasty disease, leading to complications like ear and chest infections and inflammation of the brain with some children tragically ending up in hospital and suffering life-long consequences.

“Two doses of the MMR vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your family from measles.

Babies under the age of 1 and some people who have weakened immune systems cannot have the vaccine and are at risk of more serious complications if they get measles.

“They rely on the rest of us getting the vaccine to protect them.”

The first MMR vaccine is offered to infants when they turn one year old and the second dose to pre-school children when they are around three years and four months old.

Around 99 per cent of those who have two doses will be protected against measles and rubella.

Although mumps protection is slightly lower, cases in vaccinated people are much less severe.

Anyone, whatever age, who has not had two doses can contact their GP surgery to book an appointment.

Dr Amanda Doyle, National Director for Primary Care and Community Services at NHS England, said: “The MMR vaccine is provided free by the NHS and I would urge all parents to check their child’s vaccination records before the new school year or summer travel, particularly as Europe is reporting the highest number of measles cases in 25 years.

“While the NHS delivered tens of thousands of additional MMR vaccinations last year, too many eligible children remain unvaccinated, and we are working with local authorities and the UK Health Security Agency to reach more youngsters, with enhanced vaccination offers in areas with higher cases, including vaccination buses and community catch-up sessions.”

The main symptoms of measles

MEASLES is highly contagious and can cause serious problems in some people.

The infection usually starts with cold-like symptoms, followed by a rash a few days later.

The first signs include:

  • A high temperature
  • A runny or blocked nose
  • Sneezing
  • A cough
  • Red, sore, watery eyes

Small white spots may then appear inside the cheeks and on the back of the lips.

A rash tends to come next. This usually starts on the face and behind the ears before spreading to the rest of the body.

The spots are sometimes raised and join together to form blotchy patches. They are not normally itchy.

The rash looks brown or red on white skin. It may be harder to see on darker skin.

Complications are rare, but measles can lead to pneumonia, meningitis, blindness, seizures, and sometimes death.

Love Island fans vow to call Ofcom as they fume over ‘nasty’ treatment of Shakira

Love Island viewers have threatened to report the show to Ofcom over scenes where Islander Shakira Khan was left sobbing over her treatment by the boys including Conor Phillips

Love Island viewers have threatened to “call Ofcom” as they criticised the “nasty” treatment of one girl in the villa. Fans of the reality dating show saw things take a savage turn among the residents after the latest recoupling.

Shakira Khan and Conor Phillips officially became a thing after they ditched their Casa Amor partners to couple up.

However, as the latest challenge – Couples of Sorts – saw the Islanders learn what viewers really think of them all hell broke loose. As Harrison Solomon was selected as part of a “one-sided” couple, he admitted: “I think Conor and Shakira should be up here.

“We had a conversation – me, you and H – basically what was said was, you like him more than Ty. But I don’t think you like Con as much as you like Harry.”

Moving on to another category Shakira then admitted to Conor: “I’d laugh if this was us now.” However, when she got a frosty reception from him for her joke, she then swiped: “Oh, he’s not laughing, okay.”

After the game Conor went for a chat with Harrison, Harry and Dejon, as they mulled over the events of the challenge. Following that discussion he pulled Shakira for a chat, where she slammed what the other boys had been saying to him as “b******s”.

She added: “It’s been twisted. I told you that and you just wanted to believe the boys straight away.” Shakira was then seen breaking down in tears and sobbing as she discussed the argument with Toni, saying: “Why are they trying to create this narrative like I’m obsessed with [Harry]? I don’t get it.

“They’re all just so fake! I’m surrounded by fake f*****g people who smile in your face and chat s**t about you behind your back.”

Spurred on by seeing her bestie upset by the boys the next day Toni called out Harry, Harrison and Dejon for their behaviour as she ripped into them for reducing Shakira to tears.

Viewers were left disgusted by the scenes and took to X to slam the behaviour. One wrote: “Everybody should write to ofcom because the way Shakira Khan has been treated is nasty #LoveIsland.”

A second added: “The boys reaction to Shakira being upset is telling everything about them.” A third said: “Seeing shakira that upset is so heartbreaking #LoveIsland I can’t watch these villainous men anymore.”

While a fourth social media user shared: “I’m not joking after this episode, I will write a letter to ofcom about how the islanders are mistreating Shakira.” A fifth agreed: “Ofcom will be hearing from me, these people are bullying shakira.”

‘I was on Married At First Sight and the worst part of it were my nasty co-stars’

EXCLUSIVE: Married At First Sight star Dave Hand has revealed how his edits didn’t show the complete story and opened up on an issue he has with fellow cast members

Dave Hand
Dave Hand opened up on his MAFS experience

A Married At First Sight star has revealed the worst part about the show – and it wasn’t the breakdown of his marriage. Despite exchanging vows and looking to be a strong couple, Dave Hand and Jamie Marinos’ connection was short-lived.

After cameras stopped rolling the duo called it quits and are no longer on speaking terms. But Dave exclusively told the Mirror he wishes nothing but the best for his ex – and wishes his co-stars would all be as amicable.

He also revealed how the narrative for his story on the Australian version of the show wasn’t exactly how things panned out. The tattooed star, 36, admits he wishes viewers had the chance to see how much he was struggling with his dad’s health woes during filming.

“I communicated that a few times on the couch,” he confessed, revealing the scenes were cut from the show. “People just think I went from the partner swap to me not liking Jamie. There was a build up there.

“I cried on the couch the week before because I was struggling so much, you know? Then, yeah, it was quite difficult for me as it just sort of made it out to look like I’ve changed overnight, which definitely wasn’t the case.”

He added there were other instances of the final edit not showing exactly what happened, claiming the duo had also discussed calling time on their relationship and leaving earlier on. “It wasn’t just a me thing. We both communicated that we were both struggling, but you have got to give it to us for giving it a crack and sticking it out.”

The 6’7″ tradesman went on to call out the online taunts from other cast members towards each other. And it is this that he said was one of the worst parts from his experience. “We had cast members coming at other cast members online,” he said, speaking of the show’s aftermath.

“Like, we didn’t need to do that. I think that was quite childish, you know? I was affected by some of it and it’s taken its toll. We should have been looking out for each other if anything.

“I don’t think we should have been taking the p*** out of each other. It was hard to watch, whether you got a good edit or a bad edit, it was still difficult.”

He went on to name Veronica as being someone who didn’t have a good edit, saying she “copped it” in terms of online abuse.

“I still feel sorry or the people who copped it from the whole public. Online social trolling and stuff like that needs to be stamped about and people need to be held accountable for it.

“Just because I can put on a mask and not reply to these people or give them a reaction, doesn’t mean I wasn’t dealing with anything or that it wasn’t affect me. That’s what we have to be scared of as well, because people who suffer in silence, it does eat away at people.

“People think they can say what they want and get away with it, and I don’t think that should be the case at all.”

Despite the issues, Dave is still keen to show what he has to offer on-screen, with UK shows such as Celebrity Big Brother and I’m A Celebrity two options he’d be happy to explore.

He is also interested in giving back to the community and helping others who may be struggling. “I’d love to get into the side of helping young males with their mental health. I think I’m very well experienced enough to talk and help younger kids, especially males.

“Life is full of happiness and joy and these dark days are okay as well. They’re going to be there. I think that the biggest message of all… You know, you can change what you’re going through.”
