Further casting for the TV reboot of Harry Potter has been unveiled this week. Producers have announced who will be playing the title character in the HBO series, with Dominic McLaughlin following in the footsteps of Daniel Radcliffe.

Daniel, now 35, rose to fame playing Harry Potter in the film series of the same name. The actor starred in all eight films, from the Philosopher’s Stone to the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which were released in 2001 and 2011 respectively.

It was announced earlier today that Dominic will play the literary character on-screen next, with him starring in the TV reboot. The news comes following an open casting call last year for actors aged between 9 and 11 in April this year.

Dominic has been described as a “screen newcomer” but the adaptation of the J. K. Rowling novels isn’t the only upcoming project that he’s set to appear in. The Mirror has taken a look at his casting and career following the news, including how his role as Harry Potter will bring a reunion.

Earlier today it was announced that Dominic had been cast in the role of Harry Potter in the HBO Max series. It came alongside the news that Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will play Hermione Granger and as Ron Weasley respectively.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and fellow executive producer Mark Mylod said: “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

They added in a statement that accompanied the casting news earlier: “We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

The show has been described as a “faithful adaptation” of the book series by J.K. Rowling, who’s an executive producer. It’s been teased that the cast will “lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have adored for over 25 years”.

It was previously revealed that John Lithgow, Janet McTeer and Paapa Essiedu will portray Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape respectively. They will serve as series regulars alongside Nick Frost, who has been cast as Rubeus Hagrid in the upcoming show.

Other cast members include Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell. It has also been announced already that Paul Whitehouse will portray Argus Filch in the TV adaptation.

Dominic has already worked on a project with co-star Nick, with their roles as Harry and Hagrid marking a reunion for the two actors. They are also among the cast of the Sky Original film Grow, which is set to be released later this year.

It’s been teased that the film, which is set in a world of pumpkin rivalry, is a “comedy all about family, growth and nurturing”. It centres around a “cutthroat giant-pumpkin-growing contest where the entire town gets their pumpkin patches ready to compete for a cash prize and pumpkin glory”.

The cast is led by Bridgerton‘s Golda Rosheuvel and Priya-Rose Brookwell as pumpkin farmer Dinah Little and her niece Charlie Little. Dinah’s farm hosts the contest and Charlie is among those who take part in the event, though she faces sabotage in her attempt to win the coveted prize.

Nick will appear as eco-loving pumpkin pundit Arlo, whilst, according to IMDb, Dominic plays Oliver Gregory. The cast also includes Jeremy Swift, Kathryn Drysdale, Alan Carr and Joe Wilkinson.

Dominic is also set to star in the upcoming BBC series Gifted, which is adapted from Marilyn Kaye’s novels of the same name. He will play the character of Martin, with his co-stars in the show including Jessica Hardwick as Madame.

Set in Edinburgh, the show “tells the story of a diverse group of young Scottish teens who discover they each have unique superpowers”. Their abilities are said to range from telekinesis to invisibility and mind reading.

It’s been teased that the group must join forces to protect themselves when they are targeted by an organisation known as the Bodkin. Guided by their teacher Madame, they embark on a journey to learn about their powers.

It was announced last year that the show was already in production. At the time, it was stated that Gifted is set to premiere on BBC iPlayer “at the end of 2025”.

Prince Harry makes surprise trip to China as King Charles lands in Canada for landmark state visit

PRINCE Harry made a shock solo appearance in China on the same day King Charles touched down in Canada for a state visit.

The Duke of Sussex attended a global travel and tourism conference in Shanghai where he discussed the importance of sustainable travel.

The Prince made the appearance on Monday as part of his role as co-founder of Travalyst, an organisation promoting environmentally friendly travel.

During his address to the Envision 2025 Global Partner Conference today, Harry told the travel industry it needed to do more to hit its climate change targets before 2030.

To limit global warming to 1.5°C, greenhouse gas emissions must peak before 2025 at the latest and decline 43% by the end of the decade.

He added that the Asia-Pacific region is “strongly positioned to do this”.

Speaking at the conference, he said: “Climate change isn’t just an environmental challenge – it’s a critical business emergency, costing the global economy $143 billion dollars annually.

“Now is the moment for the industry to reaffirm its commitment to being a force for good.

“Challenges will undoubtedly rise, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, it’s that meaningful change never comes easily.

“The true measure of our commitment is how we respond when the path becomes difficult.

“We must never give up.”

Harry’s trip to China, which was kept under wraps until his surprise appearance in Shanghai, is the first time the Duke has visited the country.

King Charles lands in Canada for landmark state visit

His brother, Prince William, made a similar diplomatic trip to China in 2015 — the first official royal visit in three decades.

The Duke’s Shanghai schedule also included hosting Travalyst’s first-ever two-day Executive Summit, gathering industry leaders and policymakers from across the region to hammer out practical solutions for greener tourism.

It marks the beginning of a global series aimed at turning pledges into action.

As Harry took to the stage in Shanghai, King Charles touched down in Canada also on Monday with Queen Camilla to attend The State Opening of the Parliament in Ottawa.

It marks the first time the monarch has done so since Queen Elizabeth in 1977.

In March, the King held a meeting with then-Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, after the Commonwealth leader faced pressure from the US.

Charles and Camilla were welcomed in Ottawa with cries of “welcome home” as they stepped off their RAF flight from the UK.

Their whirlwind two-day trip to Canada has been hailed as “momentous” — seen as a bold show of solidarity with the country as it locks horns with Donald Trump over sovereignty.

Charles was previously reported to be “concerned” about the growing discord between the US and Canada.

The King and Queen were met at Ottawa’s airport by new Prime Minister Mark Carney, who swept to power following outrage over Trump calling Canada “America’s 51st state.”

Carney called the royal visit “a reminder of the bond between Canada and the Crown… shaped by shared histories, and grounded in common values.”

Charles, on his 20th visit to Canada, took time to meet crowds under the hot midday sun, hearing thanks and cheers from the public.

The King, who is head of state for Canada, is also expected to meet with Indigenous leaders and veterans during the trip, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties and support reconciliation efforts.

Lee Sansum dead at 63: Former bodyguard to Princess Diana who protected William & Harry passes away as wife pays tribute

PRINCESS Diana’s former bodyguard who protected princes William and Harry has died at the age of 63.

Lee Sansum, who served as a royal military police officer, was one of Diana’s bodyguards shortly before her death in 1997, escorting her during a family holiday to the French resort of Saint Tropez that year.

The former bodyguard’s wife announced the tragic news of Lee’s death in a post on Facebook on Monday, revealing he had died of a sudden heart attack.

Sharing a compilation of pictures of the couple throughout the years, she wrote: “Since meeting in 1998, Lee Sansum has been my soul mate, hero and most amazing man in my world.

“So I’m devastated to share that he is no longer with us. He had a fatal heart attack on Saturday morning at home.

“His huge presence will be missed around the world as much as it is in our household although his capacity for love, and the life skills he has shared have left a legacy that will never be lost.

“He’s forever loved and will always be with us

“I love you more than ever ‘My Lovely Lee’.”

On top of being a bodyguard for Diana and her kids, father-of-six Lee also served as a bodyguard for the late Alex Salmond, while he was serving as First Minister of Scotland in 2014.

Lee, who held black belts in karate, jujitsu and kick-boxing, was nicknamed “Rambo” by Diana and was no stranger to the spotlight.

He also loyally protected stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Nicole Kidman, and Tom Cruise during his career.

At the time of Diana’s tragic death in 1997, Lee was serving as part of the protection team for Mohamed Al-Fayed – the father of her then partner Dodi.

He had been assigned to look after Diana and her young sons Prince William and Prince Harry during their stay at Al-Fayad’s 30-bedroom villa in Saint Tropez in the summer of 1997.

This was tragically just one month before Diana died in a Paris car crash, alongside Dodi.

Lee had released a book in 2022 – called The Bodyguard – in which he explored his close relationship with Diana and the young princes, particularly Harry.

He revealed how he had tried to teach the two boys kickboxing but that they were too “apprehensive” to it.

However, he managed to succeed in teaching Harry how to drive a jet ski – even helping him to soak photographers who were waiting to snap a picture of the young prince on holiday.

For his loyal and kind services on the trip, he was given a touching thank you letter by Diana.

In it, she wrote that she was grateful for the “magical ten days [which] would not have been possible without your invaluable contribution”.

The former bodyguard also revealed that Diana had turned to him for comfort, even crying on his shoulder, after her fashion designer friend Gianni Versace had been fatally shot outside his home in July 1997.

Lee, born in Burnley, Lancashire, said Diana would chat to him every day after she woke up at 7am – adding that she was worried about the safety of her own life.

He added that Diana was an “amazing woman”, saying: “She cared a great deal. She never said a bad word about anyone.”

25 years following her death, Lee also revealed how he could have been in the car with the princess on the day she died.

Speaking in a 2022 interview, he said: “It could have been me in that car.

“We drew straws to see who would be accompanying Trevor [Rees-Jones] that weekend.

“When I learned they were not wearing seatbelts in the crash I understood why they didn’t survive.

“I always insisted on it.”

Lee claimed Diana would still be alive if he had been on duty the night she died in a car crash.

The ex-Royal Military Policeman and “international security consultant” explained it was standard practice for the family to wear seatbelts – an order which had been sent down by Mohamed Al-Fayed.

When Diana, Dodi, and driver Henri Paul crashed and tragically died, none were wearing seatbelts.

Lee had begun his service as a military police officer in Northern Ireland during The Troubles.

He said: “I was looking after people in witness protection. I learnt my craft in Northern Ireland.”

After leaving the Army he started working as a civilian bodyguard, known in the industry as The Circuit.

A friend then recommended him to billionaire businessman Al-Fayed, who was so impressed by Lee that the bodyguard said he “became like family”.

The actress was pictured with music icon James Taylor – the hitmaker behind tracks including You’ve Got a Friend and Fire and Rain.

Meghan posted a picture with the singer which she captioned: “in my concert era. Thanks James!”

She included a snap of herself and Harry with James, alongside the singer’s brother Henry Taylor.

Meghan also posted a picture of the Prince and the singer standing together.

Harry wore a simple grey beanie, covering up his famous red hair, and an understated grey jacket.

In another picture, Meghan even revealed that she was given a signed book from the famous songster.

Entitled Sweet Baby James – which is also the title of one of the singer’s hit albums – the book contains illustrated pop-up designs and sells for $25.

James is currently on tour in the United States with his special guest Tiny Habits.

Meghan posted a picture from the crowd at his concert in Santa Barbara, California, on May 14 – one of the earliest dates on the tour.

The actress and her husband have made headlines in recent months, after rumours emerged which claimed they were embroiled in the Beckham’s widely reported feud.

Inside Meghan Markle’s extravagant garden at £12million mansion – with private swimming pool & koi fish pond

By

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry relocated from Britain to buy a swanky £12million mansion in California in 2020.

But while the nine-bedroom pad looks every inch an A-list retreat, their beautiful grounds are the true showstoppers of the property.

From a private swimming pool to a koi fish pond and tennis courts, it is clear to see why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex love their new Montecito bolthole.

There is even a chicken coop, a slip and slide, and playground for Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, three.

The outdoor adventure area has slides, swings, a climbing frame, climbing wall, helter skelter and other fun obstacle courses.

And we’ve already seen a sneak peek at their garden playhouse, when the Sussexes shared a painting of them outside for their 2020 Christmas card.

The Sussex brood have five acres of land surrounding their Santa Barbara mansion, so it looks perfect for Lilibet and Archie to enjoy.

Meghan and Prince Harry gave Oprah Winfrey the grand tour of their mansion and revealed they have rescue chickens from a factory farm.

The couple walked the talk show host to their coop – a home to rescued chickens.

Brooklyn had shunned all of David’s 50th birthday celebrations, sparking rumours of a feud.

David is said to be “heartbroken” by the rift with his son, which has been described as Victoria’s “worst nightmare”.

The Sussexes’ dinner with Brooklyn and his wife took place at their home in Montecito – where they live with Archie and Lilibet.

The home is valued at £12 million and has nine-bedrooms, as well as a whimsical koi fish pond.

Harry and Meghan’s house also has a lavish swimming pool and a tennis court, alongside a private playground for their children.

Home Improvement expert Justin Nielsen, from Wolf River Electric, estimates that the property will need around 10 to 15 staff members to keep it in tip top condition.

He added: “Given the array of features, including a swimming pool, tennis court, koi pond, children’s playhouse, and chicken coop, the annual upkeep costs could easily reach between £150,000 and £250,000.

“This estimate accounts for landscaping, utilities, specialised care for the koi fish, and general maintenance.”
