gobsmacked

‘I went to Spain for paella and sangria and price will leave you gobsmacked’

Kelsie Stonya, from Southend-on-Sea, recently took on the ultimate ‘extreme day trip’ – travelling to Palma, Mallorca, and returning to the UK in the same day – all for just £143

A woman who jetted off to Spain for just a few hours – and still managed to squeeze in sightseeing, shopping, and sunbathing – says it cost her less than a night out in the UK.

Kelsie Stonya, from Southend-on-Sea, recently took on the ultimate “extreme day trip” – battling a storm while trying for a quick getaway. She hopped on a delayed plane to Palma, Mallorca, and returned to Britain in the same day – all for just £143.

The 25-year-old hit the beach, tucked into paella for one, and even ended up in the cockpit chatting to the pilot after a delayed flight. Her whirlwind day out proved a hit online too – with a TikTok video of her experience racking up 42,600 views from viewers loving the spontaneous adventure.

“It was so hot, so sunny – it was absolutely dreamy,” she told What’s The Jam. “The whole trip cost £143.08 including flights, transfers, food and everything – definitely cheaper than some nights out I’ve had before.

“By the end of it, with all the walking and being hot, I was so, so tired. I’d definitely do it again, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for no delayed flights next time.”

The communications manager started her day at the airport, but things didn’t exactly go to plan when she arrived to find every flight delayed due to Storm Amy battering parts of Europe. Thankfully, her flight did eventually take off.

Once she landed, Kelsie jumped on a 20-minute bus into Palma’s city centre where she admired the cathedral, wandered the streets, and hunted down a restaurant. After lunch, she strolled to the beach to soak up the sun, calling the weather “absolutely dreamy”, before hitting the shops.

By the end of the day, exhausted but happy, she splurged on an Uber back to the airport – putting her Spanish skills to the test with the driver.

The return leg didn’t go smoothly either, with the flight delayed by two hours – but things took a turn for the better when the friendly pilot invited passengers into the cockpit for a peek.

Kelsie says she’d “absolutely do it again”, but is hoping for smoother skies next time.

She said: “I just had a really nice lunch and then headed over to the beach. I walked about 20 minutes and then sat down for a good hour. The thought of getting back on the bus to the airport was honestly upsetting me, so I just jumped in an Uber.”

Viewers were quick to praise Kelsie for making the most of her mini break. “That’s an impressive day Kels,” said one person.

Someone else said: “I do it all the time; great way to spend the day.”

Another viewer added: “I love doing these! So far I’ve done Belfast, Wroclaw, Alicante, Copenhagen and now have Barcelona booked for the end of this month.”

Spa day with some beer, sure why not? It’s not unheard of that most places in Europe might offer some seriously cheap booze with £1.60 beers. But if you’re looking for pints with a bit of relaxation, you might want to visit this beer spa.

One man recently flocked to Czech Republic’s capital city Prague and booked himself a unforgettable experience at the Bernard Beer Spa. Beer baths have been one of the most popular types of baths since the Middle Ages with a very old and unique spa therapy that uses natural ingredients in the form of hops, yeast and other natural substances.

And at the Bernard Beer Spa, not only are you benefiting from the incredible effects, you also get unlimited booze that happens to promise “energy and health to your whole body”.

In a recent Instagram post, Blaine, who boasts 86,700 followers, had to try it out for himself and was very impressed by it all.

He wrote: “Soaking in a bubble bath full of beer with unlimited beer on tap is honestly the self-care that I think we all deserve.”

Recommending the Bernard Beer Spa, Blaine recalled how his skin felt “silky smooth” after dunking his body into the booze.

“I had this whole room to myself for an hour,” he added. “You have unlimited beer for the whole hour and you can have as many pints as you can physically drink. You just pour it yourself from the tap besides the beer bath.”

He went on: “They had a sauna and a bed for you to take a nap in and they give you the classic Czech pickled cheese with bread, this stuff actually changed my life bro. I literally came back the next day when they opened just to buy another jar.”

Detailing his first hour at the spa, Blaine said the resort takes you in for a massage then at the end, give you a little goody bag with some of their products.

He concluded: “This was a really cool experience, all the staff are really nice, they treat you well, perfect way to unwind and refresh during a trip.”

Since Blaine shared his experience on Instagram, many people rushed to the comments section as one said: “How is this not in Britain?”

Another added: “This is amazing! Where are the champagne spas!”

So what can you expect at the spa?

First of all, the workers take care of your body from the outside and inside in a “unique way”.

You also get unlimited beer for the duration of the event, guests can just tap their own beer as they wish.

There are also massages available, as well as refreshments and rental services, should you wish to try this out with a group of pals.

For the Beer Spa Bernard package, 60 minutes for 1-2 people costs €125 (around £108). Meanwhile, 90 minutes for the same amount of guests will set you back €189 (£164).

In addition to the Bernard Beer Spa, there is also a range of massages, with 60 minutes for one person costing €75 (£65), or €139 (£120) for two guests.

Tourists from New York have shared their thoughts on Blackpool after hearing how the seaside resort is commonly referred to as the ‘Las Vegas of the North’ – and they only had good things to say

When visiting England, most tourists make a beeline for London due to its history, culture and endless activities. But two New Yorkers decided to add Blackpool to their list to compare its similarities to Sin City after hearing how it’s described as the “Las Vegas of the North”.

When exploring its sights, tourists Max and Max bumped into TikTok user @AWalkOnTheWildSideTV who asked them about their visit. He said: “I’m here with Max and Max from New York – so what you doing here guys?” In response, the tourist said: “We’re checking out Blackpool. We’re seeing the sights with the man himself [points at AWalkOnTheWildSideTV].” But there was one thing that took them both by surprise – Blackpool’s deep history.

Max added: “We’re not used to cities with such rich history as this in the US. When was it named? 1602. It’s unbelievable and it’s beautiful. We’re loving it.”

Blackpool received its name in the Medieval ages from a discoloured steam that drained through peatland, creating a black pool where it met the sea.

The name first appeared in a baptismal register for the Bispham parish, with the modern spelling Blackpool, in 1602.

The seaside town has been a hotspot for tourists ever since the 18th century when sea bathing gained popularity for his health benefits.

In more recent times, it has become known as ‘Las Vegas of the North’ due to its lively nightlife, bright lights, extensive slot arcades and reputation for entertainment.

Content cannot be displayed without consent

Now, it attracts around 20 million tourists annually, according to a STEAM report that measures attendance at events, visitor attraction numbers, and occupancy levels at hotels.

Commenting on his video, one user said: “It must be rewarding meeting people who are tourists from abroad not only that you could bump into a celebrity.”

Another user added: “Keep up the good work, mate. Post more videos, they are amazing.”

A third user said: “It was lovely that Max and Max wanted to meet you. I know you enjoyed meeting them.”

On his channel, AWalkOnTheWildSideTV, whose real name is Stevie, shares a glimpse of every day life in Blackpool as well as documenting notable events – such as when the Typhoon and C-17 Globemaster took off from the seaside town.

In one of his most-viewed videos, he showed off an “epic Blackpool sunset”, saying even the police spotted to take in the breathtaking view.

One user added: “The best sunsets are in Blackpool, this one is a beauty.” Another user said: “Don’t care what anyone says, Blackpool is magical.”

Someone said: “Blackpool has the best sunsets in the world.” A final user said: “I live near the front and run most nights looking at this.”

Jenny, 43, starred on the celebrity special of the classic game show with David Baddiel and Hollie Arnold.

Wearing a pink cherry-print jumper, she didn’t seem fazed by any of the “say what you see challenges.”

Her cool head was particularly key in the last question with the whopper cash prize up for grabs.

The image panned on the huge studio screen showed a large fridge filled with food but also bizarre items such as a house, gold bars and a document with the word “shares” emblazoned on it.

Jenny stared at the screen and suggested the guesses: “Freezer, cold, argh.

“Money on ice,” before she uttered the winning catchphrase: “Frozen assets!”

Stephen squealed in delight as he revealed she’d won and Jenny was left wide-eyed in shock, with her hands holding her head.

He said: “I can tell you right now, not only in record time but the record amount of money raised on Celebrity Catchphrase ever.”

Yet would you have worked out the brain teaser?

The Chase branded a ‘fix’ by fuming fans as Jenny Ryan stops £142k going to charity

The episode first aired back in 2021.

At the time, Jenny hailed one of her “greatest achievements” on the series was “vanquishing that Super Catchphrase pyramid!”

Fans were stunned by her performance and one wrote: “You. Were. Phenomenal!”

Another posted: “Way to go Jenny! Never doubted you for a second. Super proud fan moment.”

The Chase: Current lineup of Chasers on the ITV show

The Chase first premiered on ITV back in 2009 and has become a firm favourite among viewers since then. The roster of professional quizzers (‘chasers’) has grown significantly since the show’s launch.

  • Mark Labbett (2009 – present): Known as ‘The Beast’, Mark is a former Maths teacher and previously won £32,000 on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Mark has also reprised his role as a Chaser in the US and Australian versions of the show.
  • Shaun Wallace (2009 – present): Shaun, a barrister and former Mastermind champion, goes by the ‘Dark Destroyer’. Shaun has appeared on the Australian version of The Chase. In 2008, he finished as runner-up to Barry Simmons in Are You an Egghead?, a contest to find a new member of the then-BBC quiz team.
  • Anne Hegerty (2010 – present): A former contestant on Mastermind, Fifteen To One and Are You an Egghead?, Anne goes by ‘The Governess’. Since joining The Chase, she appeared on I’m A Celebrity… in 2018.
  • Paul Sinha (2011-present): Comedian and qualified doctor Paul joined the Chaser line-up in 2011, taking the nickname ‘The Sinnerman’. He has appeared on The Weakest Link, University Challenge and Brain of Britain. In 2018, Paul starred in series 8 of popular game show Taskmaster.
  • Jenny Ryan (2015 – present): Known as ‘The Vixen’, Jenny was previously in a winning team on Only Connect. She also appeared in Mastermind, The Weakest Link and Fifteen To One before joining The Chase in 2015.
  • Darragh Ennis (2020 – present): A postdoctoral researcher, Darragh joined The Chase in 2020 as ‘The Menace’. He is the first former contestant to join the line-up, having been part of a winning team against Paul Sinha in 2017.

A third simply put: “Smashed it,” while one posted: “Well done Jenny!!

“Amazing performance.”

SHOW FIX?

Despite her strong track record on Celeb Catchphrase, Jenny was recently called out on her own show, The Chase.

Fans flagged a fix as she stopped £142K going to charity.

Cheryl Baker, Mark Steel, Laura Tobin and Jason Bell faced Jenny “The Vixen” Ryan in a celebrity edtion.

While Jenny caught Jason, the other three all advanced to the Final Chase.

The team set an impressive target of 19 – while managing to push back Jenny multiple times.

However, the Chaser still managed to wipe out the famous faces within her time limit.

This meant Cheryl, Mark and Laura were left with £1,000 each for their charities, losing out on the £142,000 on the line.

One then wrote on X: “Bradley Walsh needs to stop speeding up when asking the chaser questions on the final round. Bit of a fix really #TheChase”.

Woman visits London food market and is gobsmacked by ‘disturbing’ £17.50 kebab

While London’s markets are known for their diverse food offerings, one woman was left stunned by an unexpected discovery ata particular food stall that left her questioning what she was seeing

London’s a food lover’s dream, full of spots serving everything from posh meals to snacks and quick eats. Markets often serve up street food, relaxed, informal meals and allow guests to sample various international flavours.

Camden Market represents a favourite destination, situated alongside the Regent’s Canal. This marketplace is made of several individual markets, but Camden Lock Market remains the original and most renowned section, celebrated for its craft stalls, retro clothing and varied food and drink options. The Stables Market, set within former horse stables, forms another legendary segment recognised for its cobblestone courtyards and vibrant umbrella walkway.

One woman stumbled across an unusual food vendor in this section of Camden Market that left her completely puzzled.

Nicola Muddle posted a TikTok clip showing an octopus kebab mounted on an vertical machine, resembling those typically found in doner kebab shops.

She wrote alongside the footage: “Saw this today at Camden markets and I can’t understand it, someone explain.”

The video features Pescobar Kebap, which serves seafood for takeaway, including its distinctive octopus kebabs, octodogs (octopus hot dogs) and popcorn prawns.

It focuses on freshly sourced seafood that gets either flame-grilled or deep-fried for a satisfying crunch.

The octopus kebab stands as one of the signature dishes on the menu, featuring grilled octopus tucked into pitta bread alongside spiced chips, aioli, cucumber, radish and aromatic herbs, and it will cost you a hefty £17.50 if you want to sample it.

Another standout dish is the venue’s octodog, boasting a charred octopus tentacle nestled in a toasted brioche bun with aioli and chimichurri sauce for £16.50.

Pescobar Kebap was established by Paul Nicolau, who began with a modest seafood market in Romania before growing his enterprise by launching restaurants throughout the nation and globally, alongside the Camden Market outlet.

Nicola’s TikTok clip capturing her discovery of Pescobar Kebap during her market visit has racked up an incredible 3.2 million views, 45,300 likes and over 600 comments within two days.

Punters expressed divided opinions about an octopus doner kebab with one declaring: “Octopuses are one of the most intelligent, sensitive creatures on earth. This is horrifying.”

Another agreed: “That is the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen.”

A third added: “I’m not ok with this. That’s not how I’m used to seeing octopuses! But give me a lamb kebab ANY day of the week!”

Someone who appreciated the creative cuisine noted: “Omg an octopus kebab sounds delicious! But you know it’s gonna be hella expensive!”.

A second fan, who has sampled the octopus kebab, observed: “I had one whilst in London! SO good!”.

Others revealed they were simultaneously repelled and fascinated by the unique food item as a different viewer stated: “I’m appalled but I want some.” Another shared: “I hate this and want it at the same time.”

Corrie fans gobsmacked as they realise two stars are real-life relatives

Sue Jenkins and Richard Fleeshman both appeared on Coronation Street – but many fans had no idea about their real-life connection

Coronation Street has seen more than its fair share of real-life family members treading the cobbles, with cousins Brooke Vincent and Ellie Leach among those who’ve found fame on the show.

The late Rick Neelan (played by Greg Wood) was actually the real-life brother of footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn).

However, they’re not the only ones with familial ties both on and off the screen. Fans were recently surprised to discover a mother and son duo who appeared on the soap years ago.

In 1985, Sue Jenkins joined the cast of Coronation Street as Gloria Todd, a regular character who worked as a barmaid at the iconic Rovers Return. She also shared scenes with Julie Goodyear, who famously played landlady Bet Lynch, reports the Daily Star.

Beyond her stint on Corrie, Sue portrayed Jackie Corkhill in Brookside for nine years from 1992 to 2001, and made a brief appearance in Emmerdale in 2008 as Bonnie Drinkwater.

Interestingly, Sue’s son is Richard Fleeshman, who also had a role on Coronation Street.

Richard played Craig Harris, joining the cast in 2002 as part of the Harris family, who were hiding under the witness protection programme.

His character, Craig, had some significant storylines, reports Leicestershire Live.

He embraced a goth lifestyle, much to his father’s dismay, and became Rosie Webster’s (Helen Flanagan) first boyfriend.

The plot thickened when Katy Harris, Craig’s sister, killed their father after a heated row about her secret relationship with Martin Platt.

Their mother, Angela Harris, tried to shield Katy, but overwhelmed by guilt, Katy ended her own life.

In the aftermath, Craig planned to escape to Berlin with Rosie, but ultimately left alone, saying goodbye to the cobbles in 2006 for good.

The revelation of Sue and Richard’s time on Corrie left fans gobsmacked. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer posted about Sue’s stint on Corrie.

Two stars of Coronation Street share more than just their ability to captivate audiences. Over the years, the ITV soap has welcomed several real-life family members onto its iconic cobbles. Real-life siblings, cousins, and even parents and their children have all graced the set.

Love Island fans gobsmacked as Toni reveals details of wild threesome with NFL star

The Love Island contestants have only been in a villa for a week – but they’re already spilling all their deepest secrets to one another, as Toni opens up on her NFL encounter

It’s been an eventful week in Love Island – with the Islanders engaging in some intense conversations. Yesterday, Yasmin asked whether Dejon would have a threesome with her and Toni, and today the conversation continued with Toni’s shock revelation.

During a chat at the beanbags during tonight’s episode, the naughty trio were back with their intimate conversations, as Toni made a wild confession.

The star, who resides in Las Vegas told Yasmin and Dejon she had previously had a threesome with an NFL player and a p**n star. That’s not all, as she said the encounter took place in a room full of people.

“Me, p**n star, NFL player, infront of a whole party,” Toni admitted. Dejon and Yasmin were left in shock as Dejon asked: “Everyone was watching?!” Toni then confirmed they were, although she didn’t reveal the name of the NFL player.

Dejon
Toni made the shock revelation in a conversation with Dejon (Image: ITV/Love Island)

Like Dejon, fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to express their shock as one tweeted: “nfl player??? #LoveIsland” tweeted one shocked fan, while another penned: “in front of everyone with a p**n star & NFL player wtf?!”

However, Dejon’s Meg was left less than impressed with the chat, as she pulled Toni and Yasmin for a chat. She told them she didn’t appreciate the trio having sexual chats, deeming it “disrespectful”.

The group failed to make amends during their chat – as Meg told the rest of the girls she felt like “a mug”.

It’s not the first time Dejon has been in trouble this week. Dejon, Harry and Shea landed in hot water when their plan was exposed during Monday night’s challenge. The trio ‘rigged’ the game to make sure they kissed who they fancied. Dejon kissed Malisha, Harry kissed ex Shakira, as Shea kissed Tommy’s partner Megan.

Meg was left less than impressed with Dejon’s conversation with Toni and Yasmin(Image: ITV/Shutterstock)

It didn’t go down well with Helena, Meg and Megan, who decided to get revenge on the boys with their own ‘gameplan’. Before new bombshell Harrison arrived in the villa with Toni, the trio decided to pretend they were interesting in getting to know him to scare the boys.

“Even if we don’t think he’s [Harrison] fit, shall we be like, ‘Oh he’s a bit of me’?” Helena asked the girls, as Meg agreed: “All this game playing they’ve been doing [the boys].”

However, it looks like their gameplan may have back fired, as the boys also had Harrison on their mind. Tommy wondered if Harrison will come in and try to break up a strong couple, but Dejon added: “To be honest, the more he does, the more leeway we’ve got to cause havoc!”

Harry then responded: “If he goes and kisses Helena, I’m flying mate! That’d be so good, I didn’t even think of that!”

Wild true cost of climbing Mount Everest leaves travel fans gobsmacked

Climbing Mount Everest is a dream for many adventurers around the world – but the iconic mountain peak in Nepal is not just dangerous to climb, it’s also incredibly expensive

Climbing Mount Everest
Climbing Mount Everest is very expensive (stock image)(Image: Mint Images via Getty Images)

Mount Everest, the towering peak of the Himalayas, soars to a staggering 8,849 metres (29,032ft) above sea level. Each year, approximately 800 intrepid adventurers attempt to conquer its summit, facing numerous hazards from reliance on bottled oxygen to the threat of hypothermia and frostbite.

Climbers typically spend months acclimatising to the harsh conditions as they gradually ascend the mountain. The climb itself is gruelling due to the severe weather, high altitude, and sheer exhaustion that prevents many from reaching the pinnacle.

Since 1953, around 7,000 climbers have successfully reached the summit.

Embarking on this ascent isn’t just perilous, it’s also incredibly expensive. For those who’ve contemplated scaling Mount Everest, a TikTok user named @geogeek2_8 shed light on the true cost of climbing Everest, leaving viewers gobsmacked.

Walking to Everest Base Camp.
Only 800 attempt the trek every year (stock image)(Image: Getty)

According to the content creator, you’ll need a permit from Nepal which will set you back $11,000 (£8,000). Additionally, you’ll need to employ guides and sherpas to help you navigate the brutal conditions, costing anywhere between $5,000 and $8,000 (between £3,700 and £5,900).

The necessary gear for the trek, ranging from boots to oxygen tanks and high-altitude equipment, can cost anything from $6,000 to $10,000 (£4,400 to £7,400).

And that’s before you’ve even set foot in Nepal. Flights to Lukla Airport, inclusive of grub and porters, can set you back anywhere from $4,000 to $8,000 (£2,900 to £5,900).

All in all, you’re looking at a total cost ranging from $26,000 to $37,000 (£19,300 to £27,462).

However, some reckon the Everest trek costs a fair bit more. According to Alan Arnette, who conquered Everest in 2011 and has reached “just below the Belcony” three other times, for most it will cost between $40,000 to $60,000 to scale Everest, but some people will fork out as much as $200,000.

Alan detailed how various operators compete on either price or luxuries and technologies, and guides have upped their rates. He also factored in budget for things like insurance, hotel, airport transport and jabs.

When quizzed if the price estimate was a tad low, GeoGeek responded: “There are still many less important costs that have not been included.”

From September, those aiming to ascend the world’s tallest peak during peak season (April to May) will have to cough up a hefty $15,000 (£11,100). For those wishing to climb from September to November, the fee is $7,500 (£5,500), and from December to February, it’s $3,750 (£2,700).

Many viewers were left astounded by the steep cost of ascending the famed peak, as seen in the comments on the video. “11k for a permit? Why?” someone questioned.

GeoGeek answered: “Mount Everest is inside Nepal’s territory, and the government regulates all climbs for safety, environmental protection, and revenue.”

Another chimed in: “With that much money I’d pay my bills and pay off loans! and sleep in my bed without being cold or no oxygen.

“People pay all that money to risk death?” questioned yet another baffled commenter. One more admitted their surprise: “Why did I think it was free?” Another wrote optimistically about alternative travel plans: “For that price I could see all of Europe, Asia and do a lower 48 state road trip”.

Woman left gobsmacked by McDonald’s in one of ‘world’s poshest countries’

A woman and property expert recently shared her experience after visiting a McDonald’s eatery in Monaco – and was surprised by how different it is compared to the UK

McDonald's in Monaco left a Brit floored recently

A woman from Yorkshire has given us a glimpse into what it is like to visit McDonald’s in one of the world’s poshest countries – and how the menu differs. When we jet off abroad, most of us are keen to sample the local grub and steer clear of eateries we can easily find back home, but it is always intriguing to see how our favourite big brands adapt their menus to cater to local tastes and traditions. Monaco is synonymous with luxury – think swanky restaurants, the Grand Prix, yachts and being the priciest city globally for property. Despite the lack of fast food giants in the country, there are two McDonald’s outlets – one in Monte-Carlo and the other in Monaco-Ville.

Property guru and entrepreneur, Abi Hookway, enjoys giving her Instagram followers a peek into how the other half live and sharing money-saving tips on her page @abi_hookway, where she has an impressive following of 475,000. Recently, she took us inside the McDonald’s in Monaco-Ville.

As she walked in, she remarked: “This looks like we could be in the UK,” but she quickly spotted some notable differences on the menu.

Content cannot be displayed without consent

Abi was taken aback as she explored the fast food joint and noticed a bakery cabinet at the front of the counter, brimming with mouth-watering baked treats like donuts, cheesecake, muffins, cookies and macarons.

“My McDonald’s in Yorkshire doesn’t have this does it, wow,” Abi exclaimed. She was chuffed with the meal deal offering three burgers, chips and a drink for just six euros, but felt the rest of the menu didn’t live up to her high expectations.

“I was expecting like millionaire, gold…it’s letting me down a bit,” she reflected. Nonetheless, she was over the moon with being able to order macarons in a branded box, an iced coffee with a dollop of cream which arrived in a recyclable plastic cup and cherished being able to sit outdoors courtesy of the substantial seating area.

Upon sampling the potato wedges, Abi declared: “We need to have these in the UK.”

Intrigued by Abi’s video, one viewer pointed out: “Also the same food in Portugal with the dessert cabinets.”

Echoing the sentiment, someone else posted: “They have these desert cabinets all over Germany McCafé.”

Another person commented, expressing their affinity for the crockery: “I love the cups and bowls. Would be great to reuse at home. I wish the UK had the same.”

There exists a smattering of unique McDonald’s locations around the globe, with the “most beautiful” one sitting pretty in Rome, Italy.

Just minutes away from the iconic Spanish Steps, this particular McDonald’s greets visitors with what appears to be a sculpture of Venus herself.

The world’s largest McDonald’s eatery is in Orlando, Florida. There is also what’s deemed the “poshest” outlet in Long Island.

Furthermore, New Zealand’s got a McDonald’s that serves up its food from a retired airliner, while, in Germany, you can even grab a McDonald’s meal from a floating restaurant.

BBC Antiques Roadshow guest gobsmacked by value of family item that leaves expert ‘tingling’

Antiques Roadshow expert Joanna Hardy was left gobsmacked as she shared the true value of a guest’s family heirloom – and even admitted that the item had made her ‘tingle’

An Antiques Roadshow expert was left astonied as she revealed the astonishing value of a guest’s treasured family heirloom.

The beloved BBC show rolled out another episode on Sunday (May 18) with Fiona Bruce once again steering the ship. This week, the team set up camp at the majestic Beaumaris Castle on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales.

Eager individuals flocked to flaunt their cherished items to the Antiques Roadshow connoisseurs for appraisal. But the atmosphere intensified when expert Joanna Hardy stumbled upon a simply “extraordinary” bracelet.

Basking in the sunlight, Joanna exclaimed: “This bracelet is just glistening in the sun here,” and marvelled at its appearance with “And we’ve got the gold nuggets which is as if they’d come out of the ground. I mean they just look extraordinary.”

The owner of the bracelet recounted its history, saying: “This was a bracelet that my grandfather gave to my grandmother.”, reports Edinburgh Live.

She continued with tales of her grandfather’s time working at the Frontino mines in Segovia, Colombia during the ’30s and ’40s as an engineer, stating: “And my grandfather worked in Segovia, in Colombia in the Frontino mines in the ’30s and ’40s.

“He was an engineer so I don’t believe he mined those from hand, but I think he must have got those from there.”

Joanna discussed the jewellery’s avant-garde style for its era: “It would have been ahead of its time for the ’30s. If we think about ’30s jewellery and the Art Deco jewellery and its diamonds and it’s all very geometric.”

The guest had also brought along photographs of her grandparents from their time in Colombia. Further enamoured by the piece, Joanna commented: “It’s just got that raw energy about it.”

The guest expressed her affection for the heirloom, revealing: “I love it when I wear it.”

Regarding the item’s value, Joanna revealed: “Gold has never been higher than today, so at auction I think you’d be looking at around £5,000.”

Instantly, the guest was taken aback and exclaimed: “Wow!” Overwhelmed and struggling to articulate her surprise, she continued: “Okay, wow… that’s quite a lot more than..”

She then expressed her astonishment further by saying, “Oh everybody says that I know. It’s really a lot more than I thought. Thank you very much!” Joanna, delighted by the guest’s response, shared in the excitement: “Oh you’ve made me tingle as well!”.
