EastEnders’ Lorraine Stanley speaks out on grandmother assumptions after weight loss

Lorraine Stanley, known for playing Karen Taylor on EastEnders, was met with reaction after sharing a video of the BBC soap star dancing with her daughter Nancy

Former EastEnders cast member Lorraine Stanley has addressed the suggestion that she’s a grandparent. It comes after she was met with reaction from fans on TikTok after posting a video of herself dancing alongside her daughter.

Lorraine, 48, who played Karen Taylor on the BBC soap, and her fiancé Mark Perez are parents to Nancy, nine, together. She occassionally features in videos shared by the actor on the platform, with the mother and daughter often taking on dance trends at home together.

The latest, uploaded last week, saw Lorraine and Nancy perform a choreographed routine to Maroon 5 and SZA‘s song What Lovers Do. Lorraine wrote in the caption: “It’s been a while!” She included hashtags like #motherdaughter.

It’s attracted more than 40,000 likes and fans reacted to the video in the comments section. The reaction included the suggestion that Nancy was Lorraine’s granddaughter, which led the former soap star to assert that wasn’t the case.

One asked: “Is that your granddaughter?” Alongside an emoji depicting a face with rolling eyes, Lorraine replied to them: “Daughter.” In another reply, beside a laughing emoj, she wrote: “Daughter #motherdaughter is a bit of a clue.”

Someone else wrote in the comments section just days ago: “Nothing better than seeing a grandparent have that kind of fun with their grandchild.” Seemingly amused by it, Lorraine replied by sharing a trio of laughing emojis.

Lorraine – whose five stone weight loss in recent years has continued to attract attention – was also met with praise over her apppearance. It included her receiving compliments from a former colleague from EastEnders.

Shona McGarty, 33, who played Whitney Dean on the soap opera, wrote in the comments section: “Lou! Love this.” She added: “You look great!” Lorraine shared her appreciation by replying to Shona: “Thank you mate!!!! Lots of love.”

One fan wrote: “You look incredible!! Look how happy your daughter is to be doing the dances with you too. So lovely.” Another said: “You look fantastic you were always my favourite on eastenders you were so funny.”

Another said: “Oh how cute is this! & the smiles from both of you say it all. looking wonderful lady…hope you have an amazing summer.” Someone wrote: “You look great! Glad you’re happy and enjoying dancing with your family.”

Several fans asked Lorraine about her weight loss. It comes after she revealed in a post on TikTok back in April that she had gastric sleeve surgery. Lorraine suggested at the time that it took place towards the start of 2023.

Alongside photos of her from different stages of the experience, she told her followers: “It’s been over two years since I started my journey. Lots of you are asking how I did it.I hope you enjoy my little weight loss journey video.”

Lorraine gave further details in the comments section at the time. She told one fan: “I was slightly embarrassed to tell the world I’d had surgery.” She also said: “I wish I could say it was [through diet], but I did have to change my diet & still have to work hard to eat the right stuff to maintain it.”

EastEnders ‘seals’ when Zoe Slater returns as Alfie’s huge lie ‘exposed’

Alfie Moon is currently hiding a big secret from his wife Kat in EastEnders, but next week his lie is set to be exposed – leading up to a return for Zoe Slater

EastEnders' Zoe Slater made her long-awaited return to the BBC soap on Monday night
Zoe Slater’s EastEnders return ‘imminent’ as Alfie’s huge lie exposed(Image: BBC)

It’s set to be another huge week in EastEnders next week, as Alfie’s huge lie is exposed. Just days after his third marriage to Kat, Alfie revealed he was off to Australia to see Spencer – starting their marriage off on a huge lie.

Viewers however, know he’s headed off to Barcelona to try and find Zoe Slater, after she left Stacey’s London flat following a close run in with her mother, Kat. We know Zoe will be back to reprise her role full-time, but with recent events – it looks like we could be seeing her on screen soon.

Kat seems to be catching on to the lie, as she this week, she revealed she hadn’t spoken to Alfie, and Spencer was acting shifty when she called.

Now, spoilers for next week reveal his lie is set to be rumbled. Stacey Slater returns when Kat expresses her upset about recent events. Stacey covers that she hasn’t heard from Alfie – but Jean later accidentally exposes her when she reveals Stacey took a call from Alfie in the morning.

A furious Kat once again rings her brother-in-law Spencer to demand answers, and it then becomes apparent that Alfie isn’t in Australia after all.

Of course, Kat heads off to confront Stacey about the huge lie – but will she find out the truth?

Earlier this month, Michelle Ryan left EastEnders fans stunned when she made her shock return as Zoe Slater after two decades away from Albert Square. Michelle featured in two episodes in Stacey’s flat before heading off to Barcelona – but it’s been confirmed it’s not the last we’ll see of her.

It’s been released that Zoe will be making a permanent return back to the soap, in scenes airing later in the summer. Those who have been keeping an eye on Michelle’s Instagram story will know the star has already started filming.

We know the soaps film around 6-8 weeks in advance, which means we can expect to see Zoe onscreen around that time frame, in late summer.

Not much has been given away about how Zoe’s return will go down, but it’s safe to say she’ll be bumping into her mother Kat Slater at some point.

Zoe’s return marked new executive producer Ben Wadey’s first episode in charge, as he teased exciting things to come for the character.

Speaking on the huge moment, he said: “Before I even stepped into the role, Zoe Slater was on my wish-list of returnees as although we haven’t seen her on screen for twenty years, her character has transcended time due to her popular storylines.

“I was absolutely delighted when Michelle agreed to return, and I’m thrilled to welcome her back to Walford. Whilst I can’t say too much at this stage, Zoe’s return is just one of the many exciting storylines we have planned.”

EastEnders’ Gillian Taylforth wishes she was like Kathy as she reveals unbreakable bond with co-star

Kathy Beale actor Gillian Taylforth has opened up about her long-running EastEnders character and her time on the BBC soap opera as the show celebrates its 40th anniversary year

Long-running EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth says she wishes she was more feisty and fearless like her iconic soap character Kathy Beale. The actress has been a part of the BBC show since its first episode, firmly establishing herself as fans favourite thanks to her character’s no nonsense attitude.

Whilst she says some things – like her voice – are indistinguishable, Gillian, 69, says there are others that are quite different. “Sometimes I wish I was a bit more like Kathy – she has a lot of opinions, and I’m one of those people who sits on the fence,” admits Gillian. “I’m not that strong-minded, but she is and I love that.

“She’s got a great sense of humour, too – that’s something we share. When I’m out and about, people shout ‘Kathy!’ at me. And if people don’t recognise me to start with, as soon as I talk, they know it’s me – it’s the deep voice!”

As the show celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, so does Gillian, as one of the few stars to have survived four decades. She returned to the show in 2015 after being presumed dead since 2006, making a surprise appearance in a live episode celebrating the show’s 30th anniversary.

She came back full time and reunited with her on-screen son Ian Beale, played by Adam Woodyatt, 56. Opening up on their tearful reunion and unbreakable bond, Gillian says they are like mum and son off set as well as on.

“I have amazing relationships with everyone at EastEnders, but there’s something special with Adam,” she said. “He’s played my son for 40 years, and he never calls me by my name, it’s always ‘Mum’, even when we’re not on set, and he’s ‘Son’ to me.

“We’ve got a close bond – he can see if I’ve forgotten my lines, and he’ll say them to remind me. The moment we reunited when Kathy came back, there were tears everywhere – it was a magical moment.”

A much-loved fan favourite, her co-stars also love Gillian, who says she’s the life and soul of the party on set. “My nickname at work is Jukebox Gilly as I’m always bursting into song!” she told.

During her 10 year break from EastEnders, mum-of-two Gillian explored other telly projects, appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, Footballers’ Wives and Hollyoaks. But she says none compared to Albert Square.

She spoke about her long-running role on the BBC show in an interview with Prima magazine for its August issue, which is out now(Image: Prima UK / Nicky Johnston)

“EastEnders has always been my favourite place to work,” she beamed. “I loved The Bill, Footballers’ Wives and Hollyoaks. I got to do plays and a musical and other things that were lovely. But EastEnders has always been in my heart, because that’s where I feel I became who I am.

“This wonderful character, Kathy, was always a big part of me. So when I was invited back for the 30th anniversary, I was overjoyed to have Kathy back in my life.”

Gillian has been a part of some of EastEnders’ most high-profile storylines. Kathy was the victim of rape in 1988 episodes and Gillian recalled how it had a huge impact on her. “One storyline that really stuck with me was Kathy’s rape in 1988. [Kathy was raped by bar owner James Willmott-Brown, played by William Boyde.]

“That was really dark. I went home every night to sort through the material and figure out exactly how I’d play each moment – and when you’re reading it all the time, and rehearsing, you want to forget about it straight away because it’s such an awful subject.

“But it was a great honour to be trusted with that storyline, and I wanted to do it justice. So many girls wrote in to say it had happened to them, and I knew that the show was reaching a lot of people who needed it.”

EastEnders ‘confirms’ Bernie Taylor’s ‘exit story’ – as dramatic scenes air this week

EastEnders fans were left gutted when it was announced Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) would be leaving the show – and next weeks spoilers have teased a possible exit storyline

Bernie's recent gossip comes as Freddie was arrested for the attempted murder of Theo

Last month, it was revealed that Clair Norris would be leaving EastEnders after playing the role of Bernie Taylor for eight years. Now, in spoilers for next week, the soap appears to have teased the star’s upcoming exit storyline.

Bernie arrived in Walford in 2017 alongside mum Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and late brother Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).

However, she’s the last one of her family members left on the Square with her mum Karen leaving EastEnders in 2023, shortly followed by the murder of her brother Keanu on Christmas Day.

Lately, fans have noticed a lack of the character on their screens, but spoilers for next week reveal a huge storyline for the star – which could be teasing towards her exit.

EastEnders viewers have demanded bosses axe Bernie Taylor, who's starred on the soap since 2017, after claiming she's 'ruined'

We’re revisiting The Six storyline once again at the start of the week. It starts when Bernie’s cousin Felix wants him to give Johnny her seal of approval, unaware that he helped cover up Keanu’s murder.

Denise then fears that if Johnny doesn’t win Bernie over, it could bring the past back to haunt them all.

However, that’s not Bernie’s only problem – as she’s tied up with the Panesars. Vicki notices some unusual invoices, although Bernie dismisses her concerns. However, Bernie isn’t getting away with things too quickly, as she’s later confronted by Ravi and Suki about the irregularities.

We know Bernie will be making her exit from the soap soon – but could next week’s dramatic storylines be leading to her departure?

Following Bernie’s exit, an EastEnders spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Clair will be leaving EastEnders later this year and we wish her all the best for the future.” Clair remained silent on her departure for a couple of weeks, until she attended the British Soap Awards at the end of last month.

Taking to her Instagram to post a picture of herself all glammed up in a teal dress on the night, Clair penned: “My last @thebritishsoapawards with my EE family. We [broom emoji] up last night, 8 awards & I couldn’t be prouder to be apart of this team! What a way to end this amazing journey, head held high & beaming from ear to ear.”

Clair was supported by both fans as colleagues in her post, with James Farrar, who plays Zack Hudson writing: “Head held HIGH,” along with a number of red heart emojis.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Theres a strange discovery though when some weird invoices are spotted linked to the Panesar account, which Bernie has access to. She dismissed the concerns, but soon she’s questioned once more. EastEnders’ Oscar Branning returning to soap and will bring the ‘drama’ after 8 years away

Oscar Branning is set to make a return to Albert Square since his last appearance in 2017 and Max Branning’s son is set to turn the life of his sister Lauren upside down

Oscar Branning makes a return to Albert Square after eight years
Oscar Branning makes a return to Albert Square after eight years

EastEnders is known for bringing back characters to Albert Square. And this time is no different as Oscar Branning is set to make a return to Walford after eight years away.

Oscar is the son of Tanya and Max Branning but the mum of three fled Walford to get away from her toxic husband, with her young son in tow.

Oscar has not been seen on screen since 2017 when he made a brief appearance on the BBC soap to celebrate Father’s Day with his elated dad, in full view of other residents at the Queen Victoria pub.

And while Oscar, who is now 17, has always been a little on the quieter side leaving the family drama in the hands of his parents and elder sisters, Lauren and Abi, it seems sparks are set to fly this time round.

Pierre Moullier is taking on the role of Oscar Branning
Pierre Moullier is taking on the role of Oscar Branning

Speaking about Oscar’s upcoming appearance played by Pierre Moullier, Executive Producer Ben Wadey said: “I’m very excited to bring Oscar Branning back to Walford and introduce viewers to him now that he’s all grown up.”

He added: “Oscar is very much a Branning which means there’s going to be plenty of drama in store this summer. We’re delighted to welcome Pierre as he takes on the role and can’t wait for viewers to see him bring Oscar to life.”

And when asked how he felt to be joining an iconic soap, actor Pierre explained: “It’s pretty surreal to join EastEnders – it keeps hitting me that I’m actually on Albert Square!”

He went on to explain: “When I found out I was joining the Brannings, it was so exciting as they are such an iconic family, and I love that there are so many skeletons in the closet.”

He added: “Oscar is so much fun to play, and the audience should be prepared for the unexpected as he’s a complex guy!”

But Oscar’s character is not the only one to have made a comeback, so too has Zoe Slater played by Michelle Ryan.

Twenty years has passed since Michelle was last seen in Walford. And her most memorable scene was in 2001 when she screamed at Kat Slater in the middle of the square “you ain’t my muvva.” To which Kat emotionally responded: “Yes I am.”

But according to the BBC website, Michelle claimed that returning to the show was “like coming home.”

Ben Wadey said that before taking on the role of Executive Producer, Michelle’s character Zoe was on his wish-list.

He admitted to the website: “I was absolutely delighted when Michelle agreed to return, and I’m thrilled to welcome her back to Walford.”

EastEnders’ Kat in huge turmoil after Alfie’s departure as she spends time with ex Phil

It’s set to be a dramatic week for Kat Moon in next week’s EastEnders as she’s left worrying about how things are with Alfie, as well as being concerned for her ex, Phil

Kat and Phil

It’s been a huge week for Kat and Alfie in EastEnders this week, with the return of Kat’s daughter Zoe Slater. However, Kat is completely unaware that Zoe returned to London – and that her husband, Alfie, has gone to Barcelona to follow her after she fled.

Next week, she’s left worrying about her lack of communication, while also being left concerned about her ex, Phil.

It was a close call in scenes earlier this week, as Kat suspected something suspicious was going on in Stacey’s flat. She opened the bedroom door, where Zoe was, although she’d already escaped out the window. She later told Stacey she was going to Barcelona, and now Alfie’s gone to hopefully bring her back home.

However, he told a huge lie to his new wife Kat, telling her that he was off to Australia to visit his brother Spencer. Although she came round to the idea in the end, Kat told Alfie that their relationship would be over for good if she finds out he’s lying.

Spoilers for next week reveal even more turmoil for Kat and Alfie as she’s left is worrying about how things are with her husband Alfie Moon.

She tries to confide in Jean Slater, Jean about her hurt over Alfie being incommunicado, but Jean refuses to forgive Kat for going into business with Kathy and Harvey.

Kat, Phil and Nigel

However, Alfie’s lack of communication isn’t the only thing concerning Kat, as she’s left worried about her ex-husband Phil. Phil’s worried about Nigel deteriorating amid his dementia diagnosis, and some of his actions next week leave Phil struggling.

During a heart to heart, Kat realises her ex-husband is exhausted and in over his head as she suggests he gets help to care for Nigel. Jean is later left questioning Kat why she’s spending so much time at Phil’s place, as she insists it’s nothing but platonic concern.

Last week, Phil was seen giving Alfie an unlikely pep talk after he and Kat called the wedding off. He told Alfie that he was the one Kat always wanted as the two made amends and tied the knot.

However, the couple’s third marriage to each other hasn’t got off on the best foot – starting off on a huge lie. Will Kat find out that Alfie’s lying about her whereabouts?

If so, how will she react? Will the pair really be over for good like she said?

EastEnders to air double bills as soap faces another major schedule shake-up

EastEnders fans have dealt with a number of schedule changes over the past few weeks – and things are about to change once again – with fans set for double bills of the BBC soap

Linda and Phil
EastEnders are set for more schedule changes in the coming weeks(Image: CREDIT LINE:BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)

It’s been a dramatic few weeks in EastEnders with shock returns, a new executive producer, and huge schedule changes. However, it looks like things aren’t set to calm down anytime soon.

Last week, for Kat and Alfie’s wedding, the soap moved it’s scheduling from Tuesday – Friday due to the football. This Monday, fans were unable to sit down and watch EastEnders with their morning cuppa. The soap delayed it’s usual 6am iPlayer release for Ben Wadey’s first episode – in which Zoe Slater made her shock return.

Fans will be happy to know that the soap will resume to it’s normal Monday – Thursday schedule next week, with episodes dropping at 6am on iPlayer. However, the week after that will see a huge schedule shakeup due to Wimbledon coverage.

EastEnders fans 'work out' Zoe Slater's love interest and Stacey will be fuming
The soap faced a huge schedule change on Monday when Zoe made her shock return – and there’s more to come(Image: ITV)

For the first time in a while, the soap will air a double bill on Monday June 30 and Tuesday July 1, meaning fans will get their two hour fix of EastEnders over two days.

On Monday June 30, the BBC soap will begin at the earlier time of 7pm, airing back to back episodes.

The second episode of the day will air straight after, meaning things will wrap up at 8pm. It will be the exact same schedule on Tuesday (July 1) with the soap airing a double bill from 7pm – 8pm.

Nigel, Phil and Kat
There’s more drama to come in upcoming weeks(Image: CREDIT LINE:BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)

That’s not the only major change though, as the soap will be airing on BBC Two for those two days as BBC One will be airing coverage from the first two days of Wimbledon. The soap will be off air on Wednesday and Thursday – with the next episodes airing the following week.

Spoilers have revealed a huge week before the double bills, with the Kat and Alfie drama continuing. Kat continues to worry about how things are between them and she soon confides in someone about their lack of communication.

Elsewhere, she soon makes an alarming discovery about her ex Phil Mitchell. Phil’s worried about Nigel deteriorating amid his dementia diagnosis, and some of his actions next week leave Phil struggling.

He then ends up injured when he and Nigel grapple over a pan of boiling water, as Kat suggests he gets some extra support to care for Nigel. She’s not the only one, as ex-Denise also tells him he needs to look after himself.

Phil isn’t the only one sparking concern however, as Elaine Peacock is also sparking concern as she struggles after her split from George Knight.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

TODAY’S TV WITH SARA WALLIS: Long Lost Family helps a man who was left outside toilet block as baby

In another emotional instalment, two people who are foundlings, tell Davina and Nicky their stories and hope to trace family

Davina McCall and searcher Simon Prothero in Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace
Davina McCall and searcher Simon Prothero in Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace(Image: ITV)

Every single story from Long Lost Family could be turned into a daytime sobathon movie in its own right. Pretty much every episode leaves viewers weeping into their wine, and this show is the perfect example of a cast-iron format that nails it every time. Davina McCall is walking along a coastline in a coat we all want to buy immediately.

She tells us the sad story of someone searching for their relative. Cut to said person’s kitchen and Davina has news. Pause. She produces a photo. Maybe even a letter. Everyone is in floods of tears, and that’s before the reunion even happens. Kleenex anyone?

Elsewhere, Nicky Campbell is providing a shoulder to cry on, while someone spits into a test tube. The spin-off series, Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace (tonight June 18, ITV, 9pm) focuses on foundlings, people left as babies, often in the most extraordinary places and in the first hours or days of life. We’ve heard about babies left in cardboard boxes, on doorsteps, at churches, in hospital car parks, and in one case a London phone box and even under a hedge.

Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell help people find loved ones
Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell help people find loved ones

In tonight’s emotional episode, Simon Prothero tells how he was found as a newborn in the summer of 1966 in the outside toilet block of a children’s home in Neath, Wales. Simon, who was adopted and grew up 10 miles away, says: “I don’t know where I was born, when I was born, what the circumstances were. I don’t know who my mother is.” As the team cracks into action, it’s especially sad as we learn that Simon’s adoptive parents and his wife Helen have died, but a DNA search connects to a large family from North Wales. Watch out for the moment Simon discovers his birth mother is alive and in her 80s, though she’s not yet ready for contact.

In another story, Lisa Dyke tells how she was discovered as a newborn in May 1969, just a few hours old, outside a health clinic in Christchurch, Dorset. She’d been put into another baby’s pram. She says: “Why was I left in another child’s pram? Who left me? I just want to know the truth.”

Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace is airing on ITV tonight at 9pm.

There’s plenty more on TV tonight – here’s the best of the rest..

RACE ACROSS THE WORLD, BBC1, 9pm

It’s been emotional, as five intrepid pairs have taken on the 14,000km race of a lifetime, from the Great Wall of China to the southern tip of India. In the end, mother and son Caroline and Tom took first place in a hard-fought win. Six months later, the contestants meet for the first time in this reunion episode, sharing their greatest highs and agonising lows. The teams reminisce about being forced out of their comfort zones and traversing the two most populated countries on earth.

For former married couple, Yin and Gaz, it’s a chance to learn who has won the race. Brothers Brian and Melvyn look back at how the race enabled them to make up for lost time, while sisters Elizabeth and Letitia tell how the adventure changed them. Teenage couple Fin and Sioned, who were catapulted into the deep end for their first backpacking experience together, share their future plans. An intimate insight with behind-the-scenes insights and unseen moments. “I wish we were starting it all again,” says Caroline.

THE BUCCANEERS, APPLE TV+

For anyone not familiar with ‘The Buccaneers’, they are a group of fun-loving young American girls, who exploded into the tightly corseted London of the 1870s, setting hearts racing. Now, the Buccaneers are no longer the invaders – England is their home. In fact, they’re practically running the place.

Nan (Kristine Froseth) is the Duchess of Tintagel, the most influential woman in the country. Conchita (Alisha Boe) is Lady Brightlingsea, heroine to a wave of young American heiresses. And Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) is on every front page, wanted for the kidnapping of her unborn child.

All of the girls have been forced to grow up and now have to fight to be heard, as they wrestle with romance, lust, jealousy, births and deaths. Last time we got a taste of England. This time we’re in for a veritable feast. Also starring Christina Hendricks as Nan’s mum Patti, this is an addictive culture-clash historical romp.

Zoe Slater will feature in “high stakes” scenes on EastEnders in a couple of months time.

Michelle Ryan returned to the BBC soap on Monday night, reprising the role after 20 years. Zoe is in “a mess” with more set to be revealed about her return and what’s gone on with her in the past two decades.

But with her on screen for a few episodes this week it’s been revealed that she will be back full-time in the summer. Now, we’ve got a glimpse at some of the big scenes ahead for the character when she heads back to the show.

Michelle took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to confirm that on Monday evening she and the cast filmed a night shoot. Most night shoots seem to be around huge and dramatic episodes.

While she gave nothing away, she did tease fans can expect big scenes ahead and “high stakes”. She addressed the “new block of episodes” filmed this week, that will likely air in six to eight weeks time, as she returns in the summer.

She spilled in a post online: “Ahh coffee, much needed after the night shoot last night. So excited for this new block of episodes, I can’t reveal anything but wow.

“High stakes. I’m carrying around the scripts to prep, new lilac pages. Well done to the writers, who have knocked it out of the park!” Viewers were left reacting to the post, excited for what was ahead.

Commenting under the post, one fan said: “Getting so excited! You and Jessie in them scenes are going to be amazing can’t wait!” Another wrote: “Can’t wait for what’s in store in the months ahead!!!”

A third fan said: “So excited to see what’s going to happen so happy your back!” while a fourth commented: “I am literally so excited for what’s to come for Zoe and I’m equally excited for you Michelle.” It comes amid the mystery surrounding Zoe’s return with her seemingly hiding something.

Michelle teased what fans could expect from the return, hinting that Zoe could be in a bad way. She spilled: “I can’t say too much as there is a lot of drama to come, but Zoe is a mess. She’s not the girl that left Walford twenty years ago, and she’s been really struggling on her own.

“She has her defences up, but this week you will see that she needs help, but whether she is willing to accept it is another story.” So what help does Zoe need, and can her family help her?

According to the soap, Zoe carries twenty years of deep-rooted resentment towards her mum. She’s not even met her other siblings including Tommy and the twins, while it’s not known if her own twin brother Dermott will be addressed.

Brookside’s Jacqui Dixon star makes huge U-turn after ‘jealousy’ over EastEnders rival

Rita Simons has joined the cast of Hollyoaks in an explosive new role. But upon her arrival, Alex Fletcher admits she was awestruck by her co-star – and even a little jealous.

Alex Fletcher has made a huge confession about one of her Hollyoaks co-stars
Alex Fletcher has made a huge confession about one of her Hollyoaks co-stars

Alex Fletcher admits that Rita Simons’ arrival in Hollyoaks left her feeling envious – but she can’t wait to film more scenes with the former EastEnders star.

Diane Hutchinson has had the sort of 12 months you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. She’s faced divorce, relapsed into alcoholism, learned that her teenager Ro wishes to transition and dated a bent copper who turned out to be running a child exploitation ring on the side.

So it’s no wonder Hollyoaks actress Alex Fletcher has blocked it all out. “She’s had a traumatic year,” laughs Alex, who is celebrating her 15th year on the soap.

“I genuinely put it to bed as soon as I walk out of the studio because it would send me under. I just try and bury it. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

This week sees Diane and Tony (Nick Pickard) grow closer after the stress of Ro’s court case dissipates. However, Marie (Rita Simons) is not giving up on her future with Tony without putting up a fight.

“Diane and Tony and the family have kind of pulled together as a unit again, which is a bit of a feather in Diane’s cap because she still loves him to bits,” explains Alex. “Her loyalties and her heart lie with Tony and it would be nice to work with Nick again because I’ve hardly seen him.”

After shooting to fame as Brookside's feisty Jacqui Dixon, Alex Fletcher is making waves as Diane Hutchinson in Hollyoaks - a role she's embodied since 2010

Fans will enjoy scenes where both Marie and Diane turn up in the same dress to celebrate after Ro avoids being sent to a juvenile detention centre. “That brings the family closer together again, so they celebrate and Marie and Diane turn up in the same dress,” laughs Alex.

“And Diane is like, ‘Well, I ain’t going home and getting changed love, you can go home!’ All the dynamics and blended families have been so good to explore. I think there’s going to be a lot more of that.”

Not only is Alex looking forward to being reunited with work husband Nick, she also wants more scenes with EastEnders icon Rita. “She’s brilliant,” says Alex, 48.

“Not going to lie, I was a bit jealous of her when she started. She’s so good, it’s nice to just be working in and around women of our age. Strong women. It’s fabulous.”

However, there is fresh trouble brewing for Diane: Clare Devine, played by Gemma Bissix, is coming for her. Unknown to Diane, Clare was married to DI Alistair Banks, the corrupt copper Diane had a fling with. Now he’s dead, Clare believes Diane is sitting on cash that belongs to her.

“Diane’s seemingly in a good place, though I don’t think she’s realised the backlash from DI Banks,” explains Alex. “Diane should be fearing for her life. And then, obviously, she’s also being accused of having all this cash that’s gone missing…”

Alex has now teased more troubled times ahead for her character, particularly with former EastEnders actress Rita Simons' arrival

Clare has been away from Hollyoaks for 12 years, but Alex is thrilled to have her back. “She’s just a great girl,” she says. “She’s a good energy – she really cares about the show and she 110% gets it.”

Before playing Diane on Hollyoaks , Alex made her name as Brookside ’s mouthy Jacqui Dixon, who married to become Jacqui Farnham. Alex loves acting but she’d also relish a stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! after cheering on Nick back in 2023.

She even wants to try a witchetty grub or two. “ It’s one of my favourite shows,” says Alex. “I am at an age where I don’t really care what people think about me anymore.

I’d have a good go. I’d be scared of the water – the water things would freak me out. But I could eat the stuff and I’d be good in a team.”

However, Strictly Come Dancing is where Alex’s heart lies. The star was in the audience of the show last year to support her pal Shayne Ward and loved watching the dancers close up.

“If I had to choose, it would be Strictly all day,” she says. “I danced as a kid and I had the privilege to go and see it last year and I buzzed off seeing the dancers. I just think it’s a skill. Not that I’ve danced in 35 to 40 years.”

Alex even knows who she’d like to dance with – Aljaž Škorjanec. “I love my fitness, I would just love it, 100%. I love Aljaž Škorjanec and I met him after the show and he was just dead friendly and brilliant,” she says. “He’d be brilliant.”

Alfie isn’t the only one causing concern for Kat, as she soon makes an alarming discovery about her ex Phil Mitchell. Phil’s worried about Nigel deteriorating amid his dementia diagnosis, and some of his actions next week leave Phil struggling.

Phil ends up being injured when he and Nigel grapple over a pan of boiling water. Phil tells Kat he’s exhausted and in over his head, so she suggests he gets some extra support to care for Nigel.

Elsewhere next week, Elaine Peacock is also sparking concern as she struggles after her split from George Knight. Linda Carter is left overwhelmed as her mother constantly leaves her to hold the fort at the pub.

George steps in to help her, and soon Elaine slams him which destroys any hope of a truce. Things take a bitter turn when George warns Elaine that his new solicitor says he’s got a claim on The Vic.

Things only get worse when Linda and Elaine clash, and it turns out Elaine has given alcohol to the teens leaving children in hospital. The alcohol is consumed by some of the kids who are at the house where a party is taking place, leading to a hospital dash.

Speaking of, Denzel throws a party next week and with Tommy invited, Joel tries to get a way in. He attempts to chat up Amy too only for it to be thwarted as his next target is revealed, after his recent drama with Avani.

With the children upstairs watching a move, Denzel welcomes his friends round and soon he allows Joel in, as they head off to get some booze from the pub. Disaster strikes though when they steal the jug of punch and Raymond and the twins end up drinking it.

Bernadette Taylor’s exit storyline may have been teased too, as she’s asked by cousin Felix Baker for her seal of approval over his new romance with Johnny Carter. But with her reluctant to after him covering up the murder of her brother Keanu, something Felix knows nothing about, will it come back to haunt all those involved?

Theres a strange discovery though when some weird invoices are spotted linked to the Panesar account, which Bernie has access to. She dismissed the concerns, but soon she’s questioned once more.

As Ravi and Suki go to confront Bernie about the irregularities, will they make a discovery and is this linked to Bernie’s looming exit? Finally next week, Nicola Mitchell is enraged when her son Barney’s biological father Zack Hudson gets between them again.

With Barney failing an exam due to stress, Nicola tries to cheer him up and bring the family back together. When Harry invites Zack though, there’s soon drama as Nicola and husband Teddy clash and she trashes the room.

As her party gets underway, Nicola chucks out Zack and Barney storms off. Teddy offers to support his son though if he wants to get to know Zack. But what will he decide? Amid the drama, Nicola and George get closer but will it lead to more

Why is today’s EastEnders not on iPlayer and is it on tonight? Huge twist sparks shake-up

EastEnders’ iPlayer episode is not on there today until it airs tonight on BBC One, so why isn’t it being shared with BBC viewers and do Zoe Slater or Max Branning return?

EastEnders' iPlayer episode is not on there today until it airs tonight on BBC One

BBC viewers have noticed EastEnders isn’t on iPlayer today, but will it be on tonight on BBC One?

A huge twist to the format has been confirmed following new Executive Producer Ben Wadey making his debut, after replacing Chris Clenshaw. It’s his first episode tonight (Monday June 16) and to mark the occasion, he’s kept back the episode for evening viewing.

Normally each episode airs from 6am on BBC iPlayer, before airing that evening on BBC One. Since the news viewers would not see it on iPlayer until it airs on the TV later on, speculation has been rife that a return is on the cards.

The social media team for the BBC soap have done nothing to cool the rumours and in fact fuelled them further with posts. We could see through someone’s eyes in the multiple clips, showing them walking around and looking around Walford.

There was also the caption: “Knock knock, who’s there?”. Other hints may have been possible too, with posters and other things thought to spell out a name.

Viewers are now convinced it’s not on iPlayer to shield the big return of either Zoe Slater or Max Branning. Both returns were leaked by a publication weeks ago, while the soap has not said a word.

Michelle Ryan is tipped to reprise her role on the BBC soap for the first time in 20 years in a possible reunion with mum Kat Slater. As for Max, he left the show in 2021 and is thought to be returning amid daughter Lauren Branning’s ongoing storylines.

A spoiler from the episode suggests Stacey Slater makes a troubling call to Alfie Moon, leaving him with drama on his hands with what she has to say. It reads: “Alfie finds himself with another problem to contend with when Stacey calls him.”

Could this be about his stepdaughter Zoe following his third wedding to Kat his week? Has Stacey got some news about Max she wants Alfie to pass on to the Brannings?

Viewers will have to wait and see, but let’s hope the soap episode lives up to the hype sparked since the announcement! After all, a return has not actually been confirmed, but it’s been hinted something big is being planned.

As for the episode, spoilers give. nothing away about a return, let alone if Max or Zoe feature. It’s already a busy and dramatic episode without the return or no return.

Jean Slater is fuming over the press coverage of Kat, Alfie and Harvey’s wedding business, especially as it wrongly suggests Kathy Beale, who Harvey dumped Jean for, is his wife. Alfie is distracted by his phone, with a teaser clip hinting constant drama there before Stacey calls.

Jean then tries to sabotage the business as revenge but Alfie talks her down before promising to help her through her split. So is Stacey’s call to do with Jean? Or is that what the soap wanted us to think?

Elsewhere, Joel Marshall commits a sickening act as he gets pal Tommy Moon to film him on the tube. Tommy is soon left disgusted when he witnesses Joel pretending to fall on fellow passenger.

As he “falls” he touches Isla inappropriately in a vile assault. But Isla reports him when they all get off at the station, and he’s soon apprehended by a member of staff.

When Joel’s dad Ross arrives with his stepmother Vicki Fowler, they are alarmed to see Joel being stopped amid his recent troubling antics. Some fans are speculating that this is the scene where the return kicks off.

Finally in the episode, we see Elaine Peacock struggling after she cheated on George Knight, leading to her husband fleeing. As she tries to put on a brace face, George considers forgiving her only for her to take the apology the wrong way, and he soon flees again.

Bobby Brazier calls dad Jeff a ‘rock’ in sweet Father’s Day post after brother Freddy makes rehab U-turn

BOBBY Brazier has called his dad Jeff a ‘rock’ in a sweet Father Day’s post – after his brother Freddy’s rehab U-turn.

The EastEnders star, 22, and younger sibling Freddy, 20, are sons of Jeff Brazier and the late Jade Goody.

Taking to Instagram, Bobby shared a photo of himself, Jeff and Freddy stood on a beach, looking out towards the ocean.

With the three having their arms around each other in the snap, he captioned: “My dads a rock.”

It comes as Freddy made a shock U-turn on plans to enter rehab – just days after admitting he’s been hooked on smoking since the age of 12.

The Celebrity Race Across The World alum shared a dramatic change of heart on Instagram over the weekend.

Read more on Bobby Brazier

Posting a black and white throwback of himself as a child, Freddy wrote: “You know what I don’t need rehab! I just need a holiday with a good group of boys or a retreat.”

Freddy stunned followers when he opened up about a long-standing smoking addiction and a desire to make peace with his dad after a tense family rift.

The 20-year-old, revealed he wanted to get help in Spain for cannabis, saying he “wants a healthy relationship with his dad”.

In a heartfelt post, he said: “I want to be clean so I can life happily and have healthy relationships with people and be there for all of my family rather then feeling like I’m in the middle and have to choose a side.”

Freddy also shared hopes of mending things with his famous father, saying: “I want to play football and take up boxing. I want to be happy and be in a healthy relationship and have a healthy relationship with my Nana and my father.”

Elsewhere, elder son Bobby has “become a Hare Krishna” and is “seeking solace” in rituals following mum Jade’s death.

Freddy Brazier reunites with dad Jeff before heading to rehab in Spain amid concern over gran’s ‘harmful’ influence

The former Strictly finalist has become a regular at the Hare Krishna temple in Soho, where he takes part in communal prayers, chants mantras and helps prepare meals.

Friends say Bobby’s interest in spirituality has grown over the past year and is helping him process the lasting impact of losing his mum to cervical cancer in 2009, when he was just five.

A volunteer at the temple told MailOnline: “He’s here every Saturday without fail. He joins our kitchen session, learns the prayers – this isn’t a gimmick.”

A family friend added: “Bobby had a difficult life. His mum dying left a mark on him, as it would.

“Hare Krishna is somewhere he seeks solace. It might seem strange, but for him, it works.”

Last year, The Sun published images of Bobby joining in cha-cha-chanting at a Hare Krishna gathering on Oxford Street, where he was even seen handing out leaflets.

Bobby said of the movement: “I’ve had the blessing of meeting some incredible devotees who have really taken me under the wing and been really merciful upon me.

“And they are just the most beautiful, happy, content, smart, intelligent people.”

The young actor will also soon be leaving his EastEnders role as Freddie Slater.

Inside Bobby Brazier’s burgeoning TV career

Bobby Brazier has risen through the ranks to become a well known face on British TV.

As the son of Jade Goody and Jeff Brazier, he has been well-known amongst the public from a young age.

Bobby first embarked on a showbiz career when he was just 16-years old when he started modelling.

The star made his catwalk debut in 2020 at Milan Fashion Week, but it wasn’t long before he had his eyes on a TV career.

He shot to prominence in 2022 when he was cast as Freddie Slater in EastEnders.

The incredibly acting skills displayed on screen earned him the National Television Award in the ‘Rising Star’ category.

His famous dad was in tears as Bobby accepted the award on stage in front of the likes of Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond.

It wasn’t long before BBC bosses wanted him to take part in the 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing.

He clearly impressed the viewers with his dancing skills as he made the grand final and was a runner-up.

Since then, viewers were delighted when he returned to his role in the long-running BBC One soap.

An EastEnders spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

A telly insider revealed: “Bosses had a meeting with Bobby only recently as they had a plan in mind for a storyline, and it just so happened that Bobby was also thinking that now was the right time to look for other opportunities outside the show.

“The timing of the decision worked for both, but his final scenes are not for a while yet.

“The character has had a great run, but the time is now right for Bobby to look for other opportunities, and for EastEnders to wave goodbye to Freddie Slater.”

But now they have announced that Monday’s episode – the first under the tenure of new boss Ben Wadey – will not be made available on iPlayer at 6am as has become standard.

And it’s set to be an exciting one.

Ben said: “Next week marks the start of something big in Walford that we hope will get everyone talking, and it’s only just the beginning.

“We’ve got twists, shocks, and plenty of drama lined up for a summer you don’t want to miss.”

pisode spoilers have revealed it will feature a mysterious phone call from Stacey Slater to Alfie Moon.

Stacey has undeniably connections to the two characters returning to the Square.

Max Branning is her former lover, boyfriend and father-in-law.

And her cousin Zoe Slater is also making a bombshell return after 20 years away.

The shock return will see Michelle Ryan, 41, back in Walford this year — delighting fans who had hoped to see her in the soap’s 40th anniversary special in February.

A source said: “Bosses have repeatedly reached out to Michelle over the years, but the timing has never been quite right.

EastEnders changes famous theme in honour of Max Branning’s exit after 15yrs

“People are still talking about her character, so it’s a real coup to bring her back.

“She feels like now is the perfect moment — and there was an exciting script on the table.”

Michelle starred on the soap from 2000 to 2005, before moving to Hollywood after landing the lead role in a series called Bionic Woman.

‘My childhood disappeared an instant after our British Airline flight was taken hostage’

A fascinating Sky Documentary airing tonight tells the shocking scandal of British Airways Flight 149, that was held as a hostage of war by Saddam Hussein in 1990

Jolting, rocking and explosions left the passengers on a British Airways flight terrified before their flight became a hostage of war. The extraordinary – and until recently, officially denied – scandal is told in the fascinating Sky Docs and NOW TV documentary Flight 149: Hostage Of War (on tonight, June 11th, at 9pm). It explores the unbelievable story of what happened when a civilian plane unwittingly touched down in the middle of a warzone in 1990.

Jennifer Chappell was just 12 years old when she was one of those taken hostage in Kuwait on Flight 149 – and the terror of those four months has left her traumatised for life. She says: “My future was stolen. The danger was very real and present, there were soldiers with guns. It was such a horrible experience. That was the last shred of my childhood gone.”

The tragedy unfolded on August 2, 1990, just after Saddam Hussain’s forces stormed Kuwait, when BA Flight 149 stopped there to refuel on route from London Heathrow to Madras. Jennifer, who was travelling with her mum, dad and older brother John, recalls: “I was looking out of the window and I saw two planes go past and then I saw things fall from the bottom. I thought I was seeing a horrible midair collision.” Then came the realisation it was bombs.

The passengers and crew found themselves trapped, held as hostages by Hussein, becoming pawns in a rapidly escalating international crisis. For over three decades, the British government denied any prior knowledge of the invasion, but new information has come to light and some of the hostages are taking the British government and BA to court to seek justice and the truth. Passenger Barry Manners says: “I’d like the unvarnished truth.”

SPEED CAMERAS: ARE THEY OUT TO GET YOU? 5, 8pm

Are speed cameras targeting us for extra cash, or are they innocently keeping us safe? Well obviously we could all just drive a bit slower, but this tongue-in-cheek show is packed with drivers complaining about these “sneaky” cash cows. In England and Wales in 2023, we racked up 2.6 million speeding offences, costing motorists over £200 million. The money goes to central government where it can be spent on anything.

Not ideal says motoring expert Quentin Wilson, who says: “If the public saw that the revenue raised from speeding fines made a visible difference, then perhaps the public would be more behind them.” However, Chief Constable Jo Shiner, National Police Chiefs Council lead for roads policing, says: “We should be trying to educate people that there’s a speed limit for a reason and it’s there to make our road’s safer.” This documentary also looks at 20mph roads, the impact of driving awareness courses and meets people looking at our driving behaviour, all hoping to slow Britain down.

EastEnders spoilers for next week: Joel arrested for sick crime and Alfie’s shock exit

It’s set to be a jam packed week in EastEnders next week – as Joel Marshall’s storyline takes a dark turn – with Kat and Alfie left fearing for their son Tommy

Fans can prepare for yet another jam packed week in EastEnders next week – as teen Joel Marshall‘s storyline takes it’s darkest turn yet.

Ever since Joel Marshall arrived on the Square earlier this year, it’s been bad news. His secrets were slowly revealed, but it became evident he hadn’t changed his ways after secretly filming his intimate moment with Avani Nandra-Hart. Now, things are set to take a criminal turn.

In recent weeks, Joel has been seen trying to get Kat and Alfie’s son Tommy involved in his wrongdoings, and next week, he leaves him horrified with his actions when he assaults a stranger on the tube.

The duo are set to travel on the tube home, when Joel asks Tommy to film him. With no ideas of his intentions, Tommy is left is horrified when he witnesses Joel pretending to fall on fellow passenger, Isla, who he touches inappropriately.

Isla then reports Joel to staff, as he’s immediately apprehended – leaving Ross and Vicki horrified. With Ross demanding answers, Vicki is supportive of Isla’s decision to report Joel. However, later on, she meets up with Isla and offers her money to drop the complaint.

Kat is also left distressed about Joel’s influence on Tommy – and things get worse when she gets no support from Alfie. Kat doesn’t feel like she’s getting anywhere with her partner – and things go from bad to worse when he tells her that he needs to go to visit Spencer in Australia as he’s in turmoil. With Alfie away, how will Kat cope with Tommy?

It’s thought that Alfie’s ‘exit’ coincides with Shane Richie‘s recent break from the soap, in which he starred in variety show The Prat Pack alongside Bradley Walsh, former co-star Brian Conley and Joe Pasquale.

It’s not Kat’s only problem, as Jean is left furious furious about the press coverage of Kat, Alfie and Harvey’s wedding business as it suggests Kathy is Mrs Monroe. Visibly upset, she takes action to sabotage the limo business until Alfie manages to talk her down.

Phil and Linda

Away from the Slater and Moon’s, we’re set to see Phil and Linda’s friendship on screen once again, as Phil notices how much Linda is struggling with doing to bar alone so ends up helping her out.

It may also be bad news for those hoping for a Priya and Ravi reunion, as a tipsy Elaine offers to book Priya a singles cruise. Will a new love interest be on the cards? Linda is left horrified however, when she sees £5k leave the business account.

EastEnders star found out show-changing Jack Branning twist 15 minutes before filming

EastEnders actor Scott Maslen has confessed a major twist involving his character Jack Branning was only shared to him 15 minutes before the scenes were filmed for the BBC soap

Soap bosses took it right up to the wire where an EastEnders twist was concerned, only telling the cast members involved 15 minutes before it needed to be filmed.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the British Soap Awards, actor Scott Maslen confessed it was very last minute when he was informed of a possibly show-changing twist. The Jack Branning actor and his co-stars had just minutes to react to and process the bombshell, before having to film for the show.

To add to the pressure, the scenes in the fallout to the news were being filmed live for the special 40th episode, and being aired to the nation. There was little preparation, and as soon as Scott learned the big twist he pretty much had to perform it on air very quickly.

The twist in question was the result of the public vote in February, with fans deciding whether Denise Fox reunited with husband Jack, or chose new flame Ravi Gulati. In the episode it was revealed that Denise, courtesy of the fans, had chosen to stay with Jack and dumped Ravi.

As this played out on air, it was only 15 minutes prior that the cast had even been told. It was a super quick turnaround, as Scott and his co-star Aaron Thiara, who plays Ravi, were walking towards the famous set ready for their live scenes when they learned which of them would be chosen.

The actors were together at the time before making the necessary preparations to film the scenes viewers saw on the night. Scott told us: “I am happy the public chose Jack, it’s obviously a big story to put you in that situation.

“I have been there a long time. Aaron’s come in so well and so strong, he’s a lovely, lovely lad. It was a big ask for both of us but we had a lot of fun. We didn’t think too much about it.”

Scott actually wasn’t sure what way it would go, expecting to get some time off with Denise choosing Ravi. He joked: “I was thinking maybe I was gonna get some fishing time in, so I voted for Ravi myself. I was like vote Ravi everyone!”

On the little time they had before filming, Scott explained: “It was right up to the wire. 15 minutes! I’ve got a little video of me and Aaron walking down and doing the last march. We were together.”

But there were no hard feelings between the cast members despite the rivalry onscreen. He explained: “It didn’t matter, we’re a team. It’s not about individuals, it’s a team game. Our job is to tell stories and we do what we are told.

“We’re part of a team and I am very lucky to have worked with these people for such a long time, so hopefully it will keep going forward.”

He also teased whether it was truly over for the love triangle, adding: “It’s EastEnders ain’t it. Ravi is gonna be back, you know he is.”
