The United Nations estimates more than $70bn is needed to rebuild Gaza.
From the air, it looks like a city erased. Entire neighbourhoods have vanished from the map two years since Israel’s relentless bombardment of Gaza began. What were once homes, schools, hospitals, factories and power plants have been reduced to debris and dust. Thousands of Palestinians are now returning to ruins or rubble in a place that has lost the very fabric of daily life.
Economists estimate the cost of rebuilding at tens of billions of dollars – far beyond the capacity of Gaza’s shattered economy.
What is behind the $20bn lifeline to Argentina?

He entered the villa on Day 1, however, he was ultimately “dumped” on Day 19.
Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, Chris discussed his health with subscribers.
In particular, his experience facing toxic mould exposure, Lyme disease and EBV.
In a clip recorded in September 2024, Chris said: “Struggling, yeah, in the last week.
“Five episodes in three days in New York. Two episodes in two days in Florida, plus travelling. Plus a bunch of meetings.
“It’s felt like my brain is trying to fall out of my ears the entire time.
“Memory is really rough, thoughts are very muddy. Getting confused in the middle of sentences.
“So it’s probably the worst that my mind’s been – just disheartening as I’ve been working on trying to get out of all this.
“Mould, EBV, Lyme, whatever it is, stuff for six months, more.
“It’s disheartening. I’ve no idea how far along I am, it feels like I’m going backward.”
I was on the first series of Love Island but quit reality TV and am now worth millions thanks to new job
Chris also appeared on dating showTake Me Out and has completely reinvented himself following his reality star days and is now a millionaire.
He earned the bulk of his fortune through his podcast, Modern Wisdom.
Chris does not look back fondly on his time on Love Island, stating in a chat with Sadia Khan he was “pretty bored” and having an ‘”existential crisis” while in the villa.
He told the BBC: “I was living this persona of the professional party boy – the big name on campus, the guy with the hair out front [of the club], that wanted people to need him, that thought he had found the culture and industry he belonged in.
“Then I got on to Love Island and had nowhere to hide from people who were the person I was pretending to be.
“I was there with people who were genuinely extroverted, outgoing, party people. And I was just playing a role…
“I’d convinced myself [Love Island] was something that made me finally belong. And I didn’t belong.”
An Emmerdale star suffered an injury away from the set of the ITV soap and script writers had to acknowledge it in the latest episode of the long-running programme
00:02, 23 Sep 2025Updated 00:05, 23 Sep 2025
The injury was addressed in-universe when Tracy asked Mary how she had ended up walking with a cane(Image: ITV)
Emmerdale writers had to incorporate the real-life injury of one of its stars into Monday night’s episode. The ITV soap was in its usual slot at the beginning of the week, and Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) was seen walking with a cane.
In the Woolpack, Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh) spotted Mary’s ailment when she ordered a drink and asked: “So, did you have a fall?”, but Mary seemingly issued a joke back.
As Mary handed her a glass of white wine, she told her: “No, I did it bungee jumping!”
Soaps tend to film around six to eight weeks ahead of broadcast, and actress Louise, 74, who is also known for her roles in other TV staples like EastEnders and Doctor Who, first told her fans of her leg injury in July, and noted that it had forced her to take time out of a her one woman show.
At the time, she wrote on X: “I’ve taken the ‘break a leg’ advice to its extreme. Apologies for the cancelled shows in Harrogate and Leeds of SHAKESPEARE’S MISTRESS. Rescheduling for the Autumn.
“In the meantime I lie here in my splint. Big shout out to LGI @NHS who took care of me last Monday [heart emoji].”
When a fan asked her: “Get well soon Louise is there an exciting tale behind the injury? Xx,” she replied: “Nope… A boring old fall xxx”
Earlier this year, fans were left uncertain whether an injury had actually occurred in real life after Mary sported a bandage wrapped around her hand and lower arm.
The character Mary explained that she’d fallen down the last couple of steps of the staircase at home, no doubt hitting or landing on the arm. She didn’t say specially what the injury was or if it was broken or sprained.
What she did say though was that she was fine after the fall, and would need a few weeks of rest before she could get the bandages off. Jacob appeared alarmed though, offering to take a look at the injury. She seemed keen to brush it under the carpet while it was clear Jacob was worried. It wasn’t made clear if Mary went to hospital or a doctor to get it checked out, or if she bandaged it up herself.
It was not clarified at the time whether it was an injury that had happened in real life, but it could have been a similar situation with scriptwriters having to work it into the story.
This often happens, and just recently on Coronation Street Kit Green actor Jacob Roberts had surgery on his leg and it was seemingly written into the show. There have been many other instances over the years where an injury or something else is written in.
Prior to that, Simon Gregson, who has played taxi driver Steve McDonald on Coronation Street since 1989, sustained a leg injury and it had to be put into the show.
He said: “I’ve broken my leg. I literally just went over and rolled my ankle, outside the back of the house. It was done in six places.
“I’m able to drive now, but walking across wet fields is a no for me. Because if I slip it’s back to square one.”
Asked if Corrie had to write his broken leg into the script, he said: “Yeah, they’ve written it in. They just kind of spoke about it. It’s like when Bobby Ewing woke up in the shower [in Dallas]. No one cares after about five minutes.”

According to the Mail, a feud between Coleen’s son Shane Jnr and his former partner, Emma Kivell, has stopped the TV personality from being in touch with her first-born granddaughter.
Coleen was a proud grandmother when Shane became a first-time father to little girl, Amelia Rose, in Januray 2016.
She was even present in the hospital room where she first met the tot.
However, in the years that have followed, a devastating family feud has left relations soured.

Sources have told the Mail that difficulties in the strained relationship between parents Shane Jnr and Emma has caused the lack of contact.
Shane Jnr and Emma are believed to not have been in an official relationship when they conceived their daughter.
A friend told the Mail: “At the time Amelia Rose was born, Coleen was on cloud nine. She was so proud her son and she fell in love with the baby, but Shane and Emma aren’t together, and these situations can become quite hard to navigate.”
They added: “Shane promised to support Emma as she set about her journey into motherhood as a single mum along with the support of her own family, but now there is no contact between the little girl and the Nolans.”
Earlier this year, it is reported that Emma and her inner circle were left “disgusted” when Shane Jnr and his new partner, Kimberley Sallis, sent her a script of their ‘pregnancy announcement’ just ten mintues before their Instagram post to confirm the news.
This left Emma unable to tell their daughter that her father was welcoming another sibling before it was posted online due to her being at school.

It has further been reported that one of Emma’s friends even lodged a complaint to ITV about Coleen but they were unable to take any action due to it being “a private matter”.
The Sun has contacted a representative for Coleen Nolan for comment.
Coleen previously discussed Shane becoming a father and the state of his relationship with Emma with the Mirror, telling the publication: “They got together one night and there you go.
“But they’re not compatible in a relationship. Obviously, you wish they were badly in love and could see a future together.

Two characters face a worrying time on Emmerdale next week, with a “devastating” discovery linked to a character’s health scare.
New spoilers for next week’s episodes, released earlier this week, share fan favourite Liam Cavanagh is concerned about a potential diagnosis. Liam’s concern over a health issue leaves him fearing he may have cancer.
Soon the doctor is forced to confess all to his worried fiancée Chas Dingle, leaving her “devastated” when she finds out what her partner has been going through on his own. It kicks off following scenes this week, which showed Liam caught urinating at the allotments by Claudette Anderson.
He was forced to explain that he’s been having issues, unable to control when he ‘relieves himself’. Claudette urged Liam to see someone, and next week he continues to avoid this.

Spoilers reveal that Claudette catches up with Liam, and she tells him he needs to attend the appointment for his prostate. With Liam putting it off and avoiding the appointment, Claudette pleads with him repeatedly over the week to rebook it.
He gets her to cancel the initial appointment, and refuses to rebook as he ignores what’s going on. Soon enough someone else finds out what Liam is facing, as his colleague Manpreet Sharma witnesses a desperate Liam relieving himself in his own consulting room hand basin.
She knows something is very wrong and asks him about it, eventually getting to the truth. Liam tries to ignore it all but Manpreet urges him to face up to his health scare, with him also realising he needs to tell his partner Chas too.
He comes clean to Chas who is left “devastated” to hear Liam fears he may have prostate cancer. Gutted that Liam hadn’t confided in her she does her best to support Liam.

But will Liam be okay, as he finally agrees to an appointment to find out what is going on? It comes amid a dramatic time for Chas and Liam, after Chas’ son Aaron Dingle was almost killed by his husband John Sugden.
John has finally been exposed as a baddie, with it now known he framed Ella Forster for the harassment campaign against Chas and Liam. John set the whole thing up ahead of their planned wedding, in order to make himself seem the hero and in order to get Ella away from the village after her heartbreak over the couple getting together.

In a compound nestled in Gitata, a remote community in Nasarawa State, North Central Nigeria, life has slowed to a crawl for the children of the late Mr and Mrs Bawa Danladi. Here, adulthood doesn’t begin with the wings of independence but with the sudden stillness of limbs.
In this house where joy once rang and children laughed freely, a strange affliction casts its long, silent cloud, stealing mobility, dignity, and dreams. The only shared pattern? The affliction grips every family member after they turn 18.
Eighteen is pegged as the age of majority in Nigeria. For some people, turning 18 connotes ‘leaving their nests’; however, for Danlami Dalandi and his siblings, it means being robbed of their coming of age.
Of the eight children born to the late Danladi, seven have been struck by a relentless and mysterious condition. Six are now completely paralysed, while another has lost her sight. For a family once filled with life and energy, the tragedy is not just that their bodies have failed them, but also that nobody seems to know why.
Danlami, who is now in his mid-forties, sits slouched, needing help to eat or shift even slightly in his chair. His voice cracks with exhaustion, but he presses on, determined to speak for himself and his siblings. They have become ghost versions of their former selves, slowly caving under their helplessness.
“I thought turning 18 would bring freedom,” said Danlami, the family’s eldest son, his voice heavy with sorrow. “Instead, it was the beginning of our end.”
As he explained his condition, Danlami’s gloomy face needed no interpretation of the emotional exhaustion it carried. While speaking to HumAngle, he described how he moved from a boy filled with energy to a man who couldn’t walk or stand.
He was the first in his family to encounter the enigmatic illness in 2001. It quietly took hold, showing no fever or noticeable symptoms, but slowly drained his strength. Activities that used to be simple started to feel overwhelmingly difficult. Years later, his younger brother Pious began to show the same symptoms, following the same unsettling pattern.
The illness didn’t strike in childhood. Instead, it waited until they crossed into adulthood, then everything began to deteriorate. Their strength faded, and mobility became a struggle. Even their eldest sister, Asabe, seemed spared at first. She married and gave birth before the sickness took hold. Unable to move without assistance, she shares the same fate as her brothers, who are all trapped in a body that no longer obeys.
The major setback
In 1990, when their father passed away, their mother became their anchor. She carried their burden, pushing wheelchairs, cleaning them up, feeding grown children, and wiping tears no one else saw. In a community with no formal support system, she became nurse, caregiver, and breadwinner at the same time.

When asked if the disorder has a historical origin within the family, Danladi told HumAngle that the condition is alien to them, as their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were known to be hale and hearty until their demise.
“Our parents never had this sickness. We even asked if our great-grandparents or grandparents had such illnesses, but none of them did. It is only we, born of the same mother, that are afflicted by this sickness,” he said.
For years, their mother carried this weight of care. When she died in 2017, the siblings were left not just physically immobilised but emotionally adrift.
Danlami said that despite their condition, they still bear the guilt of being unable to assist their mother. “She was our world,” says Danlami quietly. “She believed we could get better, even when we didn’t. She died in 2017, and that was when it truly felt like everything stopped.”
A rare disease
Their only formal visit to a proper medical facility happened in 2018, and no diagnosis was shared. They were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi courtesy of the Berekete Family, an Abuja-based reality radio and television programme. Tests were conducted, but no diagnosis was shared. They never saw the results, though they received some financial assistance.
When the broadcast station spotlighted the issue, the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health sent its representatives, including doctors, to conduct additional tests, suspecting polio. But according to Danlami, the only thing the officials told them was that “it’s not polio.”
Dr Douglas Okor, a consultant neurosurgeon at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, told HumAngle that the family might be experiencing a type of muscular dystrophy, a rare and often misunderstood genetic condition that quietly ravages the body’s muscles, starting in adolescence and worsening with age.
According to Dr Okor, the most familiar kinds, like Duchenne and Becker, typically affect boys early in childhood. But a lesser-known group called Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) can surface in late adolescence or early adulthood. LGMD begins in the hips and shoulders and steadily disables the body, just like in the case of the late Danladi’s family.
“LGMD often appears in families with no known history. It can be inherited silently until two parents, both carrying the mutated gene, pass it to their child,” he noted. “Over time, patients lose the ability to walk, feed themselves, or even breathe without assistance, in some cases.”
Rare diseases such as LGMD affect a small percentage of the population, but they pose daunting challenges, especially in low-income countries where awareness, diagnostic tools, and specialised care are limited. While thousands of rare diseases exist globally, many of them genetic, accurate data on their incidence in Nigeria remains scarce, largely because of underreporting or misdiagnosis.
A study at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, southwestern Nigeria, uncovered 11 cases of Duchenne muscular dystrophy over five years. One key finding was that scarce medical resources and early warning signs were routinely overlooked, leaving patients to arrive late and already deep into the disorder’s grip.
Like Danlami said, they were active children when they were younger. “I used to climb trees, play football, and help on the farm. Then, slowly, it became hard to move. And it never got better.” Their condition kept deteriorating because they were never diagnosed.
His brother, Danjuma, was the family’s powerhouse. Known around Gitata as “the Usain Bolt of the block”, he could out-sprint his peers when he was younger. He later worked as a mechanic, fixing generators, rewiring appliances, and bringing light to homes. Today, he cannot even brush his teeth without assistance.
Dr Okor explained that the symptoms often mask themselves as ordinary fatigue. Unlike infectious diseases, muscular dystrophy doesn’t produce visible inflammation or fever. “That makes it harder to detect, especially in low-resource settings like Gitata, where most people have never heard of the condition.”
Although rare, he noted, the illness can be managed if detected early, with input from multiple specialists and continuous rehabilitation. “It can be managed by a combination of a neurologist, physiotherapist, and occupational therapist,” Dr Okor said.
However, for the Danladi family, such options remain beyond reach, both financially and geographically; there is virtually no system in place to lean on.
Nigeria has a National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, set up to protect rights and prevent discrimination, but there is no specific programme or policy dedicated to rare neuromuscular disorders like muscular dystrophy. Experts have long urged the government to create a framework for early diagnosis, registries, and specialised support services, but so far, these calls have gone unanswered.
One still standing
Since their mother’s death, the family has been left with one carer: Hannatu, their youngest sister.
The 25-year-old is the only sibling untouched, at least physically. Each day, she cares for her brothers, helping them bathe, eat, and reposition their stiffened bodies when necessary.
But fear stalks her.
Hannatu works as a hairdresser to support herself and her family. But every day, she’s haunted by fear. Photo: Isah Ismaila/HumAngle.
“I don’t know if it will reach me too,” she said, her voice barely audible. “In 2018, our youngest brother was fine. Now, he can’t lift his arms.”
Every tick of the clock reminds her she could be nearing the family’s invisible threshold. Though she has passed the age, she wonders constantly if she’s merely living on borrowed time.
Cecilia Danaladi has begun experiencing symptoms like body weakness and loss of eyesight, which has robbed her of a suitor. Photo: Isah Ismaila/HumAngle.
Beyond that dread, the condition carries additional emotional scars for the women in the family.
Her older sister, Cecilia, 28, is already living with the burden. The 28-year-old has already lost vision in one eye and movement in one of her legs. But what haunts her more is loneliness. Her and her sister’s futures are not just on pause; their love lives are equally hanging in the balance.
“Suitors don’t come our way. I think they’re afraid. They think it’s contagious. Honestly, we’ve all given up on the idea of marriage,” she told HumAngle.
Hannatu nods in silence as Cecilia speaks. Their dreams of families, weddings, careers, and travel have all withered into survival routines. The family’s closest neighbour feels a blend of heartbreak and helplessness.
“We’ve watched this unfold over 20 years,” Shuaibu Adamu, a neighbour and family friend, said. “First, it was Danlami. Then the others followed. No one knows what this sickness is. We just pray for them to heal.”
In a country battling an overstretched healthcare system and public scepticism of rare diseases, families like the Danladis often slip through cracks too wide to fill. Without consistent intervention or support, their fate remains unchanged.
For now, Hannatu stays vigilant, her hands full, her heart heavy. But she sometimes wonders how long she can keep holding everyone up without falling herself.
Suki Panesar looked like she had lost everything in tonight’s EastEnders as the character was exposed for her request to pregnant granddaughter Avani Nandra-Hart

Could it be the end of the road for Suki and Eve?(Image: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)
It was an emotional night for the Panesar/Gulati family in tonight’s EastEnders, as Suki was ‘disowned’ by her whole family after the truth about Avani’s pregnancy was revealed. Now fans fear we could be seeing an exit for the character – especially after the actor’s recent Strictly announcement.
Last night, Eve took Avani to get a termination without Suki’s knowledge. In previous scenes, we had seen Suki asking Avani to keep the baby for herself and Eve to bring up. Although Avani was up for the plan at first, she later disclosed to Eve that she had changed her mind.
In tonight’s episode, the aftermath of the revelation continued, with Ravi and Priya unleashing their fury onto Suki for her actions. An angry Priya even went as far as to slap Suki across the face, but that wasn’t the least of her troubles.
This week viewers saw Eve take Avani to have a termination without Suki knowing(Image: CREDIT LINE:BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)
Later on in the episode, she took Avani to hospital after she was experiencing heavy bleeding, and once again met a furious Ravi and Priya in the hospital corridors.
As she left them alone to make their way back home, Suki was left with even more panic when she found her grandson Nugget and son Vinny packing their things to move out the house. However, they weren’t the only ones, as wife Eve also had the same idea.
A tearful Eve then called out Suki for opening her up to the hurt of losing out on motherhood – something she had never been open to in the past.
Is this the end for SukEve?(Image: CREDIT LINE:BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)
“I don’t know what we’ve got left anymore,” Eve said as she made her way out the door, leaving Suki in tears.
Now, fans fear a split between one of their favourite couples – especially as it was recently announced actor Balvinder Sopal would be appearing on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
“Oh dear! Is Suki about to have a #strictly sized break after a massive argument with Eve?” said one fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, while another said: “Don’t think #SukEve will survive this!”
A third said: “I think the suki and avani storyline is a build up to suki temporary exit for strictly and also maybe the reveal of joel recording avani…”
But is this the end of SukEve as we know it? With nothing left in Walford for Suki – will she be making a sharp exit?
Many believed she would go off to visit her daughter Ash in Canada to try and make amends after the rest of her family has ultimately disowned her.
However, the actor revealed she’d still be working alongside Strictly rehearsals, as she said: “I’ll still be working here so I’ll be doing two jobs. I don’t know how I’m going to handle it. I don’t know what’s gonna happen but I’m looking forward to it.”
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Heavy rains have swept through Yola, the Adamawa State capital in northeastern Nigeria, causing a devastating flood that residents have described to HumAngle as the first of its kind.
The rain began around 1 a.m. and intensified as the hours passed. By 3 a.m., walls and houses had begun to collapse, with water sweeping into homes in the Shagari and Sabon Pegi areas.
HumAngle visited the affected communities and found locals carrying their luggage and children so they could reach the highlands.
While some residents blame the flooding on heavy rainfall, others argue that it was caused by water released from a dam in the Bole area, located just a few kilometres away from the affected communities.
Adamawa had been earlier identified as one of the states in Nigeria likely to be affected by flooding in 2025. Following this, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Adamawa State government, conducted a sensitisation exercise in May to address the 2025 flood risks and promote coordinated responses to mitigate climate change effects in the state.

People living in flood-prone areas were said to be most affected. In Shagari phase 2, some of the access roads are also flooded. Pam Bature, a resident of the community, told HumAngle that the rain caused severe damage across the area.
“We heard that homes were getting flooded around that time [3 a.m.], so we came out and saw houses submerged in water. We did our best to carry items within our reach and help people get to safety,” he said.
Pam mentioned that the police came around 7 a.m. to survey the area.
“They asked some questions, looked around the area, and left. The Red Cross people also came, but they said their vehicle could not access the area, so they turned around and drove off,” Pam added.
He also noted that while some Shagari residents were able to swim across, others are currently trapped in their houses as they are waiting for the water levels to subside.

In Sabon Pegi, HumAngle observed that several homes were destroyed and others were submerged in water. While some people are trying to recover items from their flooded homes, others are counting their losses.
HumAngle spoke to Jared Enock, a resident of Sabon Pegi, who lost a portion of his house in the flood. He explained that his family was woken up by a loud thud, and when he came out, he discovered that it was his wall that had just collapsed.
“Water began to flow into the house with so much intensity the moment the wall fell. I gathered my children, and shortly after we ran out of the house, the living room collapsed with all our properties inside,” Enoch said.
Aside from his personal belongings and his gadgets, Jared also lost all his animals, which include chickens and rabbits. He is grateful that his family made it out alive.

HumAngle learned that two people were swept away in Sapon Pegi. The victims were said to be children whose bodies were recovered by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The agency has not yet released a statement about the flooding disaster.

Naomi Wazumtu, another resident of Sabon Pegi Yola, is still in shock. She said she never imagined that what began as an ordinary rainfall could result in a catastrophic flood.
“My whole house is flooded. My bags of rice, maize, and all the foodstuffs in my store were submerged,” she said, sighing heavily.
In the Ibunu Abbas community, also known as Yola bypass, the situation is worse. Locals told HumAngle that NEMA officials came with a rescue vehicle and pulled out six dead bodies.

Four of the bodies were of men who were said to be workers in a bakery. The other two were children found alongside a drainage system. The bodies have been deposited at the morgue in the Moddibo Adamawa Teaching Hospital, Yola.
On the flooded streets of Ibunu Abbas, people are seen running around, calling out for their children and loved ones who are still missing. HumAngle also observed dead animals on the streets.

While residents across the affected communities are grappling with the tragedy, their basic concern is shelter and food.
“I’m not just looking for where my family can rest our heads right now,” Jared from Sabon Pegi said.
Grace Shombolki from Ibunu Abbas, whose entire kitchen was submerged by the flood, says her major concern is food and shelter.
“NEMA came, carried dead bodies, and left. We are calling on them and the government to come to our aid because we lost everything,” she said.
Severe flooding has devastated Yola, the capital of Adamawa State in northeastern Nigeria, after intense rainfall. The disaster, which began around 1 a.m., resulted in collapsed walls and houses, especially in areas like Shagari and Sabon Pegi. Residents, navigating flooded homes and streets, blame the disaster on heavy rains and potentially released dam water from nearby Bole. Yola, previously identified as flood-prone, had been part of a flood risk sensitization exercise by NEMA earlier in the year.
The flood’s impact is profound, with multiple fatalities and widespread property damage. Residents of affected areas, such as Shagari and Yola Bypass, report significant losses, including family members, livestock, and homes. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been active in locating and retrieving bodies but has yet to address the residents’ pressing needs for shelter and sustenance. As the community struggles with immediate survival, they urgently seek governmental assistance to rebuild their lives.
George Nathanel was found guilty of illegally using the properties in North Finchley, north London, for short-term rental bookings, Barnet Council said in a statement

Neighbours of the holiday let were not happy
A rogue landlord has been hit with a hefty £75k fine for unlawfully renting out two flats on Airbnb and Booking.com to unruly revellers.
Neighbours of properties leased out to partygoers by George Nathanel were subject to banging parties and chaos.
A court heard that the properties were being booked through holiday platforms for brief stays by large groups, often using them for raucous parties. Neighbours reported significant noise disruptions due to lack of soundproofing and antisocial hours, with boisterous parties continuing into the small hours of the morning.
Victim statements presented in court included one from a local resident who described the rentals as “stressful and devastating.” He said that they had a “detrimental impact on his life, his work and mental health” and it “had severely impacted his ability to sleep and has made living in the property unbearable.”

All seems normal inside the holiday let
Mr Nathanel was convicted of illicitly utilising the North Finchley properties in north London for short-term lettings, according to Barnet Council.
The landlord, who oversaw the flats on behalf of Zenobia properties, was served a notice by the council in November 2023 to halt the use of the flats following grievances from local residents.
The Grove Road residences were scrutinised for potential planning control breaches as the properties only had permission to be used as self-contained single households. Nathanel failed to attend court hearings, telling the court that he was residing in Russia with his children and awaiting surgery.
The landlord claimed ignorance about the short-term lets on Airbnb and Booking.com, yet was hailed as “an amazing, attentive and responsive host” in Airbnb reviews.
The court heard that the two flats had been occupied for at least 220 days within the first ten months of 2024, according to evidence from the prosecution.
On June 26, 2025, Nathanel faced justice at Willesden Magistrates’ Court, where he was convicted for not adhering to a Breach of Condition Notice from the council. He received a hefty fine of £75,000, was ordered to cover council costs amounting to £5,400, and pay a victim surcharge of £2,000.
Cllr Ross Houston, Cabinet Member for Homes and Regeneration, commented: “We gave Mr Nathanel ample opportunity to stop using the properties as short term rentals, but were left with no alternative but to take him to court when he didn’t stop.
“Barnet Council clamps down hard on rogue landlords and where they don’t cooperate, we will always bring them to justice. We would like to thank the residents who brought this case to our attention. This is a great result for the neighbours whose lives were made a misery by the illegal letting of these flats on Airbnb and Booking.com.
“The prosecution and huge fine highlights the seriousness of the case and will be a strong deterrent to other rogue landlords from breaking the rules in the borough of Barnet.”
A Booking.com representative said: “When accommodation providers sign up to list on Booking.com, they agree to our terms and conditions, where we ask them to verify that they are operating in full compliance with local laws and are legally permitted to rent out their property on a short-term basis.
“If we are ever made aware that a property on our site may not be operating in compliance with local regulations, we investigate and take further action as needed.
“At Booking.com, we remain committed to collaborating with the Government and local authorities to help deliver sustainable, measured legislative solutions for short-term-lets in the UK.”
Airbnb was contacted for comment.
A milestone court case came to a close in Spain earlier this month, ruling that ten holiday lets all located in the same block must close down due to “the illicit and unsanitary activities” that had taken place there.
Vomiting and sex in the communal areas, as well as drunken, destructive, and lewd guest behaviour, had caused one family stress, anxiety, and sleepless nights. This was judged to have inflicted psychological damage on the family, which includes two children, and violated their fundamental right to privacy.
Madrid’s 44th Court of First Instance ruling—that the flats must stop being used as holiday lets—is a significant one, as the properties were registered legally but their presence was judged to infringe on the family’s rights.
In the ruling, the judge noted “the constant noise, the breaking of shared fixtures, the filling of the lobby with suitcases at all hours, and the presence of shopping trolleys filled with towels,” before the family were awarded €37,000 in damages.
As many as 3.4 million Californians could lose their state Medi-Cal health insurance under the budget bill making its way through the U.S. Senate, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday.
Newsom said the proposed cuts to healthcare in the “one big, beautiful bill,” a cornerstone of President Trump’s second-term agenda, could force the closure of struggling rural hospitals, reduce government food assistance for those in need and drive up premiums for people who rely on Covered California, the state’s Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplace.
“This is devastating,” Newsom said. “I know that word is often overused in this line of work, but this is, in many ways, an understatement of how reckless and cruel and damaging this is.”
Medicaid provides health insurance for about 1 in 5 Americans and generally uses income, rather than employment, as a condition for enrollment.
Roughly 15 million Californians, more than a third of the state, are on Medi-Cal, the state’s version of Medicaid, with some of the highest percentages in rural counties that supported Trump in the November election. More than half of California children receive healthcare coverage through Medi-Cal.
The Senate is still debating its version of the bill. But the current version would require many Medicaid recipients to prove every six months that they work, volunteer or attend school at least 80 hours per month. States would be required to set up their work eligibility verification systems by the end of 2026, just after the midterm elections. States that do not set up those systems could lose federal Medicaid funding.
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters last month that the aim of the policy was to encourage poor Americans to contribute and “return the dignity of work to young men who need to be out working instead of playing video games all day.”
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated this month that the requirements would cut about $344 billion in Medicaid spending over a decade and leave 4.8 million more people uninsured.
Health policy experts warn that work requirements can lead to people who are eligible, but can’t prove it, losing their benefits.
Newsom said 5.1 million people in California would need to go through the work verification progress and about one-third would “likely” meet the requirements.
The other two-thirds would “go through the labyrinth of manual verification,” Newsom said.
He said 3 million people in California could lose coverage through the new Medicaid work requirements, and 400,000 more could lose their insurance if they were required to re-verify their eligibility every six months. Newsom said that the state’s estimate was based on the number of people who dropped off Medicaid in New Hampshire and Arkansas after those states briefly implemented their own work requirements.
Last year, California became the first state in the nation to offer healthcare to low-income undocumented immigrants. The expansion, approved by Newsom and the Democratic-led Legislature, has cost the state billions and drawn sharp criticism from Republicans.
Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher (R-Yuba City), who has previously called on Newsom to walk back that coverage, said on social media Friday that Newsom and Democratic legislative leaders had “obliterated” the healthcare system.
Newsom’s budget proposal in May proposed substantial cuts to the healthcare program for undocumented immigrants, including freezing new enrollment in 2026, requiring adults to pay $100 monthly premiums and cutting full dental coverage.
Lawmakers ultimately agreed to require undocumented immigrant adults ages 19 to 59 to pay $30 monthly premiums beginning July 2027. Their plan adopts Newsom’s enrollment cap but gives people three months to reapply if their coverage lapses instead of immediately cutting off their eligibility. Democrats agreed to cut full dental coverage for adult immigrants who are undocumented, but delayed the change until July 1, 2026.
In Congress, the GOP bill could also pose a serious threat to 16 struggling hospitals in 14 rural counties, which received a $300-million lifeline in interest-free loans in 2023, Newsom said.
He said the Republican members of Congress in California who supported the bill and represent rural parts of California, including Central Valley Rep. David Valadao (R-Hanford) and Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin), are “gutting an already vulnerable system.”
Some senators are pushing to change a requirement that would require states to freeze and cut by half the tax they impose on Medicaid providers, slashing a key source of funding for rural hospitals.
Michelle Baass, the director of the California Department of Health Care Services, said that change could be “fatal for the many rural and critical-access hospitals that are already financially strained.”
Newsom said in aggregate, the cuts could threaten California’s progress in reducing the share of residents without health insurance, which stands at about 6.4%.

Images see John looming with a syringe in his hand with Robert laying down in the van. But will John really go as far as to kill his own sibling? While spoilers have hinted Robert wakes up, it’s yet to be revealed if there’s more scenes with John or if he remains in danger.

There’s dramatic scenes starting next week with the soap set to tackle an LSD storyline. The repercussions could be massive as multiple characters are caught up in the drama.
There’s potentially devastating scenes ahead as disaster hits the street after a house party. Aadi Alahan decides to throw a gathering, only for troublemaker Brody Michaelis to bring a bottle of LSD.
Aadi spots the drugs and kicks Brody out of the party, leading to chaos as he refuses to go before finally fleeing. But Aadi makes a decision he could live to regret when he, Nina and Summer decide to drink the LSD.
Aadi leaves his unattended only for someone else to accidentally drink it. What follows is a dramatic turn of events with Nina and Summer high only to be left terrified when they hear sirens, with it hinted something bad has happened.
As for another resident, the person who took the third cup of LSD is left in a bad way and their condition deteriorates.

Coronation Street bosses have revealed that they will be tackling the difficult topic of drugs by showing how they can affect the lives of young people who indulge
The teens of Coronation Street are soon going to be hit with the consequences of taking drugs
Coronation Street is set to air a shocking new drug storyline next week, and the consequences for the youth of Weatherfield will leave viewers stunned.
In dramatic scenes set to air on Monday June 23, Aadi Alahan throws a wild party at number 7. What begins as a harmless midsummer bash quickly spirals into chaos with “disturbing” consequences.
When Bernie Winter calls the teens out for being boring, Aadi decided to get rid of his sensible image by inviting his friends over for a night to remember. However, this party takes a dark turn when troublemaker Brody Michaelis brings a bottle of LSD to the party in the hopes of making a quick profit.
Things take a dramatic turn when Aadi Alahan decides to throw a party for his friends
When Aadi catches him selling the drugs, he is furious and kicks Brody out. But the situation only escalates when Summer Spellman convinces Aadi and Nina Lucas to try it, claiming she took LSD while in America.
After this dangerous brush with peer pressure, Aadi divides the LSD into three drinks. Summer and Nina take theirs, but before Aadi can drink his, he’s distracted. When he returns, the drink has disappeared — and there’s a big possibility someone else gulped it down without knowing what was in it.
Meanwhile, Lauren Bolton flees the party after starting to feel unwell and soon finds herself in a terrifying situation. The exact details of her ordeal are being kept tightly under wraps, but a teaser from ITV describes it as a “nightmare” scenario.
The official promo trailer for the episode shows Summer and Nina breaking into Roy’s darkened café while high. When the sound of sirens fills the air, they huddle together in panic.
It’s clear something has gone horribly wrong, and the entire Weatherfield community will soon be facing the consequences of the teens’ actions.
This is not the first time Summer has found herself in a dangerous situation because of drugs. In 2017 she was dared to smoke Spice by Simon Barlow, and collapsed after going through with it.
That incident nearly cost the girl her life, and led to serious legal trouble for her the Barlow family and her legal guardians. Now it seems the teen has decided to risk it all for another hit, and this time is bringing Nina down with her.
Elsewhere on Coronation Street, DS Lisa Swain is set to become more protective of Kit Green after several clashes with him in the workplace. Actress Vicky Myers told The Mirror: “I think after what has happened with Tinker, Lisa really feels like she is this protector.
“She sees something in Kit that reminds her of herself but equally, she frustrates him and he does her. She knows not everything he does is above board and it doesn’t sit well with her.”

Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid shared an update after a car ploughed into crowds celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade
Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid delivered “horrific” breaking news on Tuesday (May 27).
At the top of the programme, Susanna reported that four children were among those injured at yesterday’s Liverpool FC parade.
A man, aged 53, has been taken into custody following an incident where a car struck several pedestrians in Liverpool city centre during the Premier League victory parade.
Eyewitness accounts and videos circulating on social media depict the vehicle ploughing through a crowd, causing people to flee the scene.
The police have stated that the incident is not being treated as terror-related and appears to be an isolated event, reports Bristol Live.
“Our breaking news this morning is that we now know that four children were among the dozens injured yesterday as a people carrier was driven into crowds celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade,” Susanna began.
Susanna Reid announced breaking news minutes into Tuesday’s (May 27) show
“Firefighters had to lift up the vehicle to rescue a child, who was among four people trapped underneath it.”
Ed Balls chimed in: “The Prime Minister has paid tribute to the city’s unity, saying Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with Liverpool.”
Chief correspondent Richard Gaisford was reporting live from Liverpool, while Nitya Rajan was stationed outside Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Before airing a pre-recorded segment, Richard issued a cautionary note to viewers. Following this, Nitya provided details about the injuries sustained in the incident.
“One child out of the four that were injured has sustained serious injuries,” she confirmed.
Back in the studio, Susanna Reid and Ed Balls discussed the heart-wrenching impact of the incident on the community.
A car ploughed into a crowd at the Liverpool FC parade on Monday
“Devastating scenes there. Of course, everyone thought that they were celebrating something joyful,” Susanna said.
“This parade was miles long, and initially people would not have realised what happened in Water Street if they had already drifted off in other directions.
“Obviously, your heart goes out to everyone injured, those who saw what happened, people would have been really devastated witnessing that, but everyone else in the parade thinking it was one of the best days of their life, and all that’s come over that now is just awful.”
Ed added: “It’s so particularly upsetting for this to happen in Liverpool. They were denied a parade during the pandemic when they won the league. Liverpool has faced such terrible football hardship over the years.
“For this to happen again and on the day when they’re celebrating such a dramatically brilliant win in the Premier League is really unfair. It’s terrible.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am
Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox is gearing up to be part of the cast of a TV show for the first time since 2020, after his health condition deteriorated

Michael J. Fox has announced his exciting return to television as he prepares for a guest role in the popular Apple+ comedy show Shrinking. The series revolves around the lives of three psychiatrists, played by Harrison Ford, Jason Segel, and Jessica Williams.
The main characters, Dr Paul, Jimmy, and Gaby, all support each other through their own personal struggles as they work to help their patients in sometimes unconventional ways. Fox’s role in the third season of the series has not been revealed yet, but there is a possibility that it will be linked to Dr Paul’s ongoing Parkinson’s storyline.
Fox himself stepped away from acting as his Parkinson’s symptoms worsened in 2020, and he started to experience issues with his speech. He was diagnosed with the neurological disease three decades ago, and fans have theorised that his character will address what it is like to live with Parkinson’s on-screen, given Dr Paul’s season two character arc focused on his health struggles and fears that he would have to walk away from psychiatry.

This stint on Shrinking will also mean the Hollywood A-lister gets to collaborate with the show’s co-creator Bill Lawrence again, after they previously both worked on Spin City.
Lawrence previously admitted that Fox influenced his portrayal of Dr Paul’s battle with Parkinson’s on Shrinking, saying: “It’s cool to get to write about things you care about now. And Michael J Fox is my first mentor. So we wanted to represent it in hopefully an inspiring and not sad or tragic way.
“I found the first mentor in my life and career, Michael J Fox, to be so inspiring. The way he took it in stride and continues to work harder than anybody I know. And we want to kind of carry that spirit if we can into the show.”

The last TV show Fox starred in was American legal drama The Good Fight, which is about a lawyer who loses her life savings after being scammed and is forced to start again.
His last big film role was in the 2019 sci-fi blockbuster See You Yesterday as Mr Lockhart, the science teacher of the two teen leads who attempt to crack time travel.
The Back to the Future star has reportedly been managing his Parkinson’s symptoms with the drug carbidopa/levodopa, and he is also said to have had a thalamotomy in 1998.
He previously spoke about how “tough” it is to live with the disease, telling The Guardian : “It didn’t defeat me. I wish it was a heroic thing. I’m not saying: ‘Yeah! Bring it, bring it!’
“I hate it. It sucks. It’s a piece of s**t. It’s tough to get up in the morning and keep going. But I have a beautiful family and this office with trophies.”
He also shared that being unable to act was “a struggle”, adding: “It’s very difficult. I get sick of talking about me. I know me too well.”
