Destination X star shares what Rob Brydon was really like behind-the-scenes

EXCLUSIVE: BBC Destination X winner Judith has opened up about her time on the gameshow and revealed the ‘close bond’ between host Rob Brydon and one of the contestants

Judith, the triumphant contestant of Destination X, has spilled the beans on what Rob Brydon was like behind the scenes of the gameshow and his rapport with the contestants.

In a nail-biting finale last Thursday, Judith clinched victory, narrowly edging out Saskia and Josh to take the top spot.

It had been an emotional journey for her, and she broke down in tears when host Rob laid out a briefcase of £100,000 and declared, “You’ve done it, you went from 13 players, and you’ve won”.

While viewers were over the moon that the self-confessed “underdog” had won, just one episode earlier several had admitted they were “gutted” that taxi driver Daren had been eliminated.

Judith has now disclosed that Daren and Rob shared a special camaraderie during filming, often keeping spirits high among the group, reports the Manchester Evening News.

She recounted: “Rob was really funny, he would come up with really good, quick, one-liners as well sometimes, so it was nice to see that side of him and get to know him a bit.”

Continuing, she said: “He was rooting for everyone, there’d be times even during random challenges where it wasn’t shown but he really would root for everyone.

“He’d pick up on little things and make jokes about the alliances and jokes about everyone, and him and Daren actually had some really good banter, they were quite funny when they were together as well.”

Gavin and Stacey actor Rob has previously opened up about his role in the series, revealing he drew inspiration from Claudia Winkleman’s hosting style on The Traitors.

He expressed his admiration for her approach, saying: “I did look to Claudia on The Traitors, I love the lightness of touch there… I didn’t want to get in the way of the show, so I was very aware of that.

“I just wanted to be the bridge between the viewer and the contestants, because people say this, but it’s true, they are the stars.

“Their personalities really come out over the course of the series and for me, watching that first one, you see the beginnings of relationships and people’s characters blossom.”

Despite the alliances and apparent divide between contestants, Judith went on to say she felt as though she had learnt something from each of them.

She elaborated on her learning experience: “I took something from everyone on that show. I don’t think it was shown so obviously in one of the first episodes, when Dawn left, she was so headstrong on France, and it was her and I that actually fought for France but she was so headstrong on it, and the fact that she didn’t let other people lead her decision-making or anything like that in this pressured scenario where you don’t know if your answer is correct, I took that from her and just knowing I had to play the game that way. You can’t trust anything that you don’t see with your own eyes.”

Reflecting on the game’s dynamics and the other two finalists, she said: “Honestly, the way that Saskia and Josh played it was amazing, like it went from Josh and Saskia against me, Claire, Daren and Nick, two against four and they whittled us down to one which just shows how powerful an alliance is. A good alliance can get you anywhere.”

Meanwhile, during an appearance on BBC Breakfast on Wednesday, Daren spoke about how far he came in the game and winning over the nation’s hearts.

He said: “It’s been mad but I’ve absolutely loved it. It’s all been so positive and for some reason kids seem to like it and I think it’s because of the emotional side of it, I suppose parents are saying ‘look blokes do cry’.”

Daren continued: “Honestly I’ve loved it. People coming up to me and wanting selfies. I’m a London cabbie, what am I doing here?”

Destination X fans left ‘crying their eyes out’ in same response to final

Destination X came to an end on Thursday night as one lucky contestant managed to win £100,000 and BBC viewers were quick to take to social media to share their opinions

Saskia, Josh and Judith

Destination X fans were left ‘in tears’ after the grand finale aired on Thursday night. The last episode in the hit series saw the last remaining contestants, Saskia, Josh and Judith, compete in one last round of challenges for the chance to win the £100,000 jackpot.

The series followed a group of travellers sent around to various locations in a bus with blacked-out windows, with only clues and challenges to try to guess where they are. Each round, the player who guessed furthest away than where they actually were was booted off the bus and therefore out of the competition.

But it was Judith, a 28-year-old nuclear engineer from Bristol, who emerged victorious from the programme and walked away with the huge amount of cash, and fans flooded social media to declare that the moment was so emotional by the whole thing that they had been moved to tears of joy.

One fan wrote on X: “I’m so pleased I’m in tears the underdog always wins!” and a second said: “Crying my EYES out at destination x oh my god.”

In replying to that tweet, a third viewer said: “Honestly so happy she won (wanted Nick from the begging, but with the players left it had to be her), the others were to smug she needed to humble them”(sic), and the initial user replied: “100% they isolated her and were so confident she had no chance, it was so satisfying that she got to win.”

The sentiment was echoed across social media, with another writing: “Yes!!! The nice person triumphed Well done Judith.” Another fan of the programme wrote: “Congratulations Judith!!!! Well deserved love,” and another said: “Yes Judith! So, so, so pleased for her!”

For much of the series, Judith appeared to have been left to navigate the ups and the downs of the competition alone whilst the others worked as a team, and fans were thrilled to see that it all worked in her favour in the end, especially after her fellow finalists left her on her own as well.

One viewer said: “They isolated Judith from week 3, and Josh spent the last days undermining Judith’s ability to win. So, for her to make it 30 seconds ahead of Josh to win the cash prize without any advantages was extremely satisfying to watch.

Another, very taken with how Judith had remained ‘true to herself’ throughout the show despite the pitfalls, she said: “She had no advantages. No alliances. Was even ridiculed. Yet she still won. Why? Character. She was steady, kind and true to herself. And that was enough.”

After a month on the Destination X bus, the 13 contestants were whittled down to just three finalists by tonight’s last episode. The remaining stars’ memories were put to the test as old clues resurfaced for the first challenge.

Josh had the advantage after the first task, with the 26-year-old pilot receiving three golden tickets while Saskia had one and Judith won none. They were revealed to be in Rome – and challenged with finding host Rob Brydon in one final location within the Italian city. It comes after Rob Brydon’s catastrophic Destination X blunder almost ruined whole competition.

While the golden tickets could be used to unlock more clues, after a nail-biting race to the final destination it was ultimately Judith who was first to find Rob Brydon at the Spanish Steps.

“Oh my God,” she said, bursting into tears. “I feel like it’s been so hard. Oh my God, this is a lot. I literally can’t believe it. I literally won Destination X.

“Going from having zero golden tickets to winning – I think Josh and Saskia’s faces definitely showed. They were so shocked.”

Unfortunately for Josh, he was just 30 seconds behind Judith while Saskia was two minutes and 25 seconds later.

“I was shocked to be honest,” Josh said. But in the end, it seems as he shared the same view as the fans of the programme as he added: “I should have done much better in this so I was punching myself. Fair play to Judith – she’s a deserving winner. We’ve all been through this experience together and I’ve got a lot of respect for her.”

Destination X fans ‘gutted’ as final three revealed in heartbreaking scenes

The finalists of BBC show Destination X have finally been revealed after a nail biting series, but who will be taking home the mouth watering prize money after tomorrow’s final?

After a nail biting semi-final, the final three of Destination X have final been revealed, and fans are heartbroken. The epic semi-final saw, Darren eliminated from the show at the final hurdle of the BBC show, fronted by Rob Brydon. Darren was booted out of the show after opting for Paris as his penultimate choice after a clue on the famous Mona Lisa. It was later revealed that the contestants were in Monaco.

However, the contestants marks weren’t final as they took part in a stick or twist challenge, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for Darren to stay in the competition – as he was left in tears as he said goodbye.

Leaving the bus, Darren couldn’t get his words out as he began to choke up. “Well done Darren,” Saskia said in tears. “Listen, it’s been a privilege to get to know you all,” Darren said holding back the tears. “Jackie P, here I come,” as he left to cheers from the finalists.

Now, just Josh, Saskia and Judith remain in the process, and one of them will walk away £100,000 richer. After weeks on the road, it all comes down to this – but it’s not going to be easy.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter after the finalists were revealed, one wrote: “The people’s hero has gone!” another disappointed fan wrote: “Nooooooo Darren!!” “Nooooo Darren out im so sad,” a third gutted fan wrote.

The final will see the competitors put to the test as old clues resurface, and old rivalries heating up. The BBC have confirmed a dramatic final ahead, as a monstrous first challenge will see some players given an advantage in the race to the final Destination X.

Josh, Saskia and Judith will face a nail-biting race around one of Europe’s most iconic cities – but the show has teased that “not everything you see can be believed.”

Despite Josh, Saskia and Judith all making it to the final, there were moments all three thought they’d be eliminated from the competition.

“In the second challenge, I really had no idea where I was,” Josh said. “I had to go completely off what other players were saying and ended up hedging my bets my ‘X’ right in the middle of two places that I had heard other players say, I was very lucky to have stayed in.”

As for Saskia, she thought she was a ‘goner’ right before the semi-final. “Definitely the moment right before the semi-final was when Josh and I had not seen the Pisa clue, we really had to put our heads together to try and work out where we thought the bus could be going,” she said.

“I was very grateful for him in that moment.” Judith on the other hand, was convinced she was going to be eliminated “all the time”.

“Honestly, all the time, literally, most of the time in that map room,” she laughed when asked. “I was just taking every challenge as it was coming and every map room as a challenge on its own. It was just about getting through and not being last so I just didn’t want to let my guard down too much.”

The three contestants will be battling it out tomorrow night – but who will take the crown?

The final of Destination X airs Thursday 28th August, 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

Viewers of Destination X were left ‘gutted’ by the latest twist in the popular BBC show, with many voicing the same grievance.

The reality programme returned to our telly screens on Wednesday (20 August) with another episode, which saw remaining contestants Nick, Saskia, Judith, Daren, Josh and Claire tackle the latest challenge on the Destination X bus.

Regrettably, Nick found himself bidding farewell to the BBC show after his location prediction was the furthest away from the group’s actual location, which was revealed to be Pula, Croatia.

Fans at home were left heartbroken by Nick’s departure from the show, with many taking to social media to vent their disappointment.

“I am so gutted, I really thought that Nick would get to the final and win! ! #DestinationX,” one person posted on Twitter, now X, while a second said: “I’m in mourning for nick from #DestinationX.”

A third viewer said: “I haven’t watched #DestinationX for long but I’m really sad to see Nick go, that was so unlucky, Could’ve won,” and another added: “Nick was great. Sorry to see him go. #DestinationX.”

A fifth Destination X fan said: “#DestinationX going to be really boring now Nick’s gone. Let’s see how they get on without the strongest player on board.”

Speaking after he was told he was the latest contestant to be eliminated, Nick said: “Stepping off the bus here is frustrating, because I said it as I was placing it.

“I couldn’t quite find where I needed to be, which was a shame. It’s been great, it’s been a great experience. It’s been really horrible and hard at times, lots of lessons learned.

“The social dilemmas, the decision-making, what to tell to who and when, is very draining. The game is hard.”

Nick’s fellow contestants were left stunned by his departure on the coach, with each expressing their astonishment whilst gearing up for the upcoming stage of the competition, reports the Manchester Evening News

Judith pondered how Nick had butted heads with particular participants throughout his stint on the BBC One programme, confessing she believed he might have been misjudged and was merely concentrated on the contest.

“I really don’t think he’s as bad a person as some people started to think. I think the game was just the first thing he thought about, the last thing he thought about when he went to bed. I think he was just so in it,” Judith revealed to her fellow Destination X participants.

Destination X continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

BBC Destination X star slams ‘out of order’ challenge after blaming ‘dodgy’ equipment

BBC gameshow Destination X viewers couldn’t help but laugh as one of the contestants blamed a ‘dodgy’ challenge as they were left furious over the results

A contestant on Destination X, Josh, has blamed his defeat on a “dodgy” task, claiming he was “cheated”.

Josh is one of the six remaining contestants in Rob Brydon’s BBC gameshow, where he’s vying for a £100,000 prize in the reality competition that’s been likened to a blend of The Traitors and Race Across The World.

Despite gaining an advantage in yesterday’s episode, tonight’s show (Thursday 14 August) saw him paired up with record-breaker Nick for a challenge, but they didn’t fare well against their competitors.

When they struggled to answer questions about clues they’d spotted in Venice, both Josh and Nick tried to argue that a faulty buzzer was to blame for their poor performance.

“I feel cheated, the buzzers weren’t working,” Josh raged. “It wasn’t fair,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

Throughout the challenge, he maintained that the buzzer “wasn’t working” and was “dodgy”.

“I feel like the button was dodgy, I’m pretty sure I pressed it first and I know for a fact I’ve got very good reactions.”

At one point, he even confronted host Rob, saying: “Can I have a word? That’s out of order!”

One viewer responded on X: “Get over it Josh, you’re just too slow!”

Another commented: “Josh blaming the button is hilarious.”

Yet another viewer chuckled: “Josh and Nick claiming the buzzer doesn’t work. Sore losers.”

Meanwhile, their competitor Darren found their loss amusing: “Josh and Nick weren’t very gracious in defeat whatsoever, which made it all the more sweeter. I loved it.”

Before stepping into the villa, Josh worried viewers might perceive him as arrogant, explaining: “They might think I’m quite cocky but I just believe in self love. If you can’t love yourself, you can’t start to do things.”

The 26 year old aviator continued: “I have a lot of qualities that can help me within the game such as flight training and I also know meteorology and navigation. I’m quite a social person as well. I’ve got a good mix of intelligence and sociability.”

Destination X viewers fume they’d ‘rather watch paint dry’ after spotting ‘fake’ detail

Destination X fans were left unimpressed by a challenge in the latest instalment of the BBC gameshow with many branding it ‘boring’ and spotting a glaring ‘fake’ detail

Destination X viewers slammed a “boring” challenge on the BBC gameshow, after spotting a “fake” detail.

Rob Brydon’s programme is in full swing, having been labelled a cross between The Traitors and Race Across The World.

It features 13 strangers competing to scoop £100,000 as they’re whisked across Europe and try to work out their location through various challenges.

In tonight’s instalment (Wednesday, 13 August), the participants were challenged with carrying wine glasses across a vineyard on a tray held by one hand, whilst answering questions about one another in an attempt to eliminate their rivals.

The more responses they got wrong, the more glasses they had to balance, resulting in several being knocked out when their trays tumbled, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Yet viewers were swift to spot that whilst the BBC episode featured sounds of glass shattering, the contestants seemed to be using plastic.

“The smashing glass sound effects for them dropping plastic champagne flutes is sending me,” one penned.

Another questioned: “Why have they put a shattering glass sound on when the glasses are clearly plastic? Haha.”

Others branded the challenge as “boring”, as one posted: “Not liking this part… it’s very boring.”

Another raged: “Well this is riveting tv.. Not!”

Someone else fumed: “Sorry that wine task was total c***. I’d rather watch paint dry. switching off.”

Prior to the new series launching, host Rob confessed he nearly wrecked the entire game by almost spilling a secret.

The high-stakes programme only functions if the contestants are genuinely able to participate without receiving any hints about the outside world during their journey.

Despite numerous production safeguards being implemented to guarantee this, Rob nearly sabotaged everything.

Speaking before the show’s debut, the star confessed that although he was “very careful”, he did encounter one close call.

He revealed: “I won’t say where we were, but we were on a hillside, that’s all I’ll say, and we were about to visit a lovely location, and I was looking forward to where we were going next.

“I was chatting to some of the crew and I said out loud, ‘I can’t wait to get to [the place]’ and then I realised that just over there was one of the players and I had a sinking feeling in my stomach.”

He continued: “Luckily they didn’t hear, and I can be sure of that because of what happened next which told me that they’d not heard. That was the only one but it was a constant fear.”

Destination X continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One and is available to watch on iPlayer.
