UCLA quarterback Pierce Clarkson might avoid criminal charges

More than a month after he was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon with great bodily injury, UCLA backup quarterback Pierce Clarkson has taken a major step toward being able to resolve his case while avoiding charges altogether.

After the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office referred the case to the L.A. City Attorney for possible misdemeanor consideration, the latter agency has decided to handle the matter via a city attorney hearing, according to Ivor Pine, deputy director of communications for the City Attorney.

A city attorney hearing is an informal proceeding that allows individuals who face certain misdemeanors to resolve their situation with a hearing officer without a criminal filing.

The resolution of such hearings, including conditions imposed to remediate and rehabilitate, are fact-dependent and vary matter to matter, according to Pine. If the participant successfully complies with the conditions, the case is diverted and no charges are filed. If the participant fails to comply, then criminal charges may be filed.

A UCLA athletic department spokesperson said Tuesday evening that there was no update on Clarkson’s status with the team. He had been suspended from all team activities pending the resolution of legal proceedings after his Sept. 5 arrest.

Before his suspension, Clarkson had been one of the top backups to quarterback Nico Iamaleava. The son of quarterback guru Steve Clarkson, Pierce Clarkson had transferred to UCLA this offseason after having spent last spring at Mississippi. The former St. John Bosco High standout spent his first two college seasons at Louisville, where he played sparingly.

Luke Duncan has been UCLA’s top backup in Clarkson’s absence, playing briefly at the end of the Bruins’ victory over Michigan State.

Kelly Clarkson returns to screens a month after her ex-husband’s tragic death

Kelly Clarkson has returned to The Kelly Clarkson Show just over a month after her ex-husband and father of her two children died at the age of 48

Kelly Clarkson has returned to her TV show stateside a month after the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The former American Idol winner, 43, took time out from presenting The Kelly Clarkson Show after the tragic news of Brandon’s death in August.

Brandon, who was married to Kelly for almost seven years their split in 2022, died from melanoma on August 7. He was aged just 48. The duo shared two children together, River Rose, 11, and nine-year-old Remy. Brandon also had two children from a previous relationship.

Now, returning to her role on the show, Kelly showed her usual mix of humour and emotion. While she didn’t directly touch on her former husband’s death, the occasion was emotional.

During the show, Kelly spoke with Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. The Hollywood pair were on the show to promote their new film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. The trio bonded over ‘the highs and lows of parenthood’.

Earlier this month, Reba McEntire opened up about how her grandchildren, Brandon and Kelly’s children, are doing following his tragic death. She was speaking while on the red carpet at the Emmys.

“The kids are doing well, they’re all bonding together and hanging out with each other, and taking it one day at a time,” she confessed. “We know God’s got this.”

Brandon, who was a talent manager, died after living with melanoma for over three years. A rep for his family announced the death at the time via a prepared statement.

It read: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years.

“He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Brandon’s daughter Savannah recently admitted she “never imagined” she would lose her father. The sad message posted on Instagram shared her pain. The 23-year-old, who is expecting her third child, wrote on the social media platform: “So far, 2025 has been a year full of ‘Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding.’

“As we’re ending Quarter 3 I’ve found myself looking back at all of the love and support my husband and I have had through the lows and heartbreak.

“Seeing my dad sick and losing him was something I never imagined or could have possibly prepared myself for, let alone young and pregnant.

“We have had an overwhelming amount of love and support poured onto us over the past 6 months and we are eternally grateful.”

Jeremy Clarkson takes swipe at competition Stacey Solomon after winning NTA

Jeremy Clarkson appeared to take a swipe at Stacey Solomon during tonight’s NTAs as Clarkson’s Farm picked up the award for Factual Entertainment show

Jeremy Clarkson was thrilled as Clarksons Farm picked up the award for Factual Entertainment show at tonight’s NTAs – and he couldn’t help but throw a dig in towards Stacey Solomon in the winners room after.

The former X Factor star had not one, but two shows nominated in the category. Both her BBC shows Sort Your Life Out and Stacey & Joe were up but despite double the chance, Stacey unfortunately didn’t take home a gong.

Heading onto the stage, the former Top Gear star thanked everyone, before apologising his trousers were falling down because he was taking Mounjaro.

Celebrating in the winners room after picking up the gong, the star said: “It’s great that a farming show can beat a house cleaning show,” seemingly referencing Stacey’s Sort Your Life Out.

It wasn’t the only dig he made, as he claimed that his team “worked way harder than anyone else in this room”.

It came just hours after the Loose Women star hit out at a “ludicrous” decision by the organisation for putting both her shows up in the same category.

After overhearing Magic Radio presenters Tom Price and Lucy Horobin discussing what big fans they were of BBC reality show Stacey & Joe earlier today, Stacey decided to ring in to say thank you.

Lucy asked about Stacey & Joe and Sort Your Life Out going head to head in the Entertainment category tonight, Stacey said: “They’ve put Sort Your Life Out and Stacey & Joe in the same blummin’ category for some reason.

“We’re up against each other which is absolutely ludicrous! But you know what I’m so grateful to just be going, it’s so nice to be shortlisted and nominated knowing that it’s a public vote.”

It’s not the first time Stacey has hit out at an awards show, memorably slating the BAFTAs earlier this year after she once again missed out on a gong.

The mum of five once again missed out on Factual Entertainment for Sort Your Life Out there, with Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour taking the win.

Taking to her Instagram story the following Monday, Stacey said: “Good morning from the veg patch, about to do the morning water. We didn’t win a BAFTA and I know I’m supposed to take it gracefully like a champ but I’ll be honest I’m devastated.”

“I’m not handling it very well, I’m not taking it very gracefully. I’m devastated for our whole team like I’m so gutted for our team. Everyone got dressed up and were really hopeful because I think because they work so hard,” Stacey continued, as she said the Sort Your Life Out team deserved a BAFTA.

However, she clarified that she didn’t mean to say that others didn’t deserve a BAFTA as they “absolutely did.”

UCLA backup quarterback Pierce Clarkson arrested on felony charges

UCLA backup quarterback Pierce Clarkson was arrested Friday on unspecified felony charges and has been suspended indefinitely from the team pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

The arresting agency was the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division and bail was set at $30,000, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department website. Clarkson’s first court hearing is set for Oct. 3.

“We are aware of the charges against Pierce Clarkson,” a UCLA athletic department spokesperson said in a statement. “He has been indefinitely suspended from all team activity pending the outcome of the legal process. This situation will be evaluated by the UCLA Office of Student Conduct and any further action taken will be in accordance with that evaluation and University policy.”

One of the top backups to starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava, Clarkson was not spotted on the field before the Bruins lost to Nevada Las Vegas 30-23 on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The son of quarterback guru Steve Clarkson, Pierce Clarkson joined the Bruins this offseason after having spent last spring at Mississippi. The former St. John Bosco High standout had played sparingly in two seasons at Louisville.

Little-known British car brand behind motor Jeremy Clarkson said ‘can destroy your face’ to build huge new UK factory

A SMALL British carmaker behind a motor Jeremy Clarkson said could “destroy your face” is set to build a huge new factory in the UK.

Ariel – best known for its Atom motor – will build the new structure to the east of Crewkerne in Somerset on a recently acquired 43-acre site.

The carmakers gained the land after five years of negotiation, with the new building set to open before the end of 2028 at the cost of “a few million”, Ariel boss Simon Saunders said.

Simon said the cost of building a new factory had rapidly risen since the idea was first floated, meaning the firm may need to seek external funding.

Ariel currently sells two vehicles, the Atom and the Nomad, as well as the Dash bicycle, according to its website.

The Ariel Atom, tested on Top Gear in 2005, was described by Clarkson as “so quick, it can destroy your entire face“.

Since its launch in 2000, it has gone through a number of alterations, with the Ariel Atom 4 – released in 2018 – being the most recent version available to customers.

It was awarded Britain’s Best Driver’s Car by Autocar in 2020.

With building the new site, Simon said he wanted to “move to no ordinary industrial unit”, keeping in style with the unique designs of Atom’s motors.

He explained: “While we’ve been waiting to do the land deal, we’ve investigated quite a few styles – circular buildings that might work well for production efficiency, or others whose design is reminiscent of old farm buildings you already find in this area.

“We need space for what we do now, plus a museum, a showroom and a design office. And it’s got to be efficient.”

The new site will be placed close to Atom’s existing factory, meaning Ariel will be able to keep its pre-existing workforce while also adding around 60 new staff.

It also means production capacity should be able to almost double from just 80 units per year to around 150, reports Autocar.

The huge new complex will house Ariel’s expanded manufacturing operation as well as a showroom, a spacious service and spares operation, long-term parts storage, a museum, and an office space for design and administration.

Ariel is also putting an emphasis on environmental efficiency for its new vehicles, Simon said.

The new factory will be capable of carbon capture, its roof will gather solar energy, water will come from a borehole, and there are plans to plant 8000 trees on the site.

Ariel started out in a tiny studio in Simon’s home before moving to its current site in 2007.

However, since Ariel handles advanced design as well as spares, servicing, repairs and used car sales on top of manufacturing, it has been constrained on space for years.

This comes after a 2020 Ariel Atom went to auction last year.

Describing a previous version of the car in 2005, Clarkson said he had “never, ever driven anything that accelerates so fast,” describing the Atom as being “fast on an entirely new level”.

The motor started life as a student project at Coventry University before it was originally launched in 2000.

Other iconic versions include the Ariel Atom 500, which is one of the fastest accelerating production cars ever made – taking just 2.3 seconds to get from 0-62mph.

The Ariel Atom was also voted one of Britain’s 50 best cars ever made by a panel of 10 judges earlier this year.

Jeremy Clarkson ‘thanks’ pub staff for support as he makes announcement

Jeremy Clarkson has been inundated with congratulations from fans after he made a rare social media statement

Jeremy Clarkson has made a sudden declaration about his pub, The Farmer’s Dog, on social media this week as he praised staff who have made its inaugural year of trading a triumph.

The Clarkson’s Farm star launched his Cotswolds watering hole in August 2024, documenting the adventure on his Prime Video programme as workers at the time mounted a significant walkout.

Now Jeremy, 65, has shared a photograph of the pub’s signage on Instagram and informed followers: “Exactly a year ago, we opened The Farmer’s Dog to back British farming.

“Today, there are 146 people on the payroll, and I’d like to thank every single one of them for making it such a roaring success.”

Supporters hurried to praise the former Top Gear presenter on his accomplishment, with one retailer of his Hawkstone beer disclosing they have also been marking his triumphs in the commercial realm.

The retailer wrote: “Congratulations! We are proud sellers of Hawkstone and have sold almost 6000 bottles in just over a year! Good going for a small indie shop,” reports the Express.

“Not only are you providing jobs, you are helping small businesses like mine keep going during tough times. Cheers.”

Another person added: “Happy first birthday! We just visited yesterday, what a wonderful creation.”

A third admirer commented, “I hope everyone within the farmers’ cooperative is thriving through the enterprise, too. I’ve visited twice and had a great time. Lovely staff, great location, wonderful food.”

Someone else expressed support by saying, “I look forward to visiting soon; it’s just up the road for me.”

The Farmer’s Dog, a mere 10 miles south of Diddly Squat Farm and nestled in the Oxfordshire countryside along the A40, was formerly known as The Windmill.

Jeremy reportedly paid “less than £1million” for the property, only to find that it had been a popular spot for particularly exhibitionist locals.

Thankfully, the pub has undergone a complete makeover, including the addition of a massive chrome tractor hanging in the bar area.
