BBC Question Time’s Fiona Bruce apologises on air after Andrew blunder

Question Time host Fiona Bruce was forced to apologise after making a huge blunder about Andrew during Thursday’s live broadcast, following the ex royal’s title removal

BBC Question Time presenter Fiona Bruce apologised after a major gaffe about Andrew during Thursday’s live show.

The host mistakenly used the Duke of York’s Royal title mere minutes after King Charles confirmed that Andrew would no longer be known as Prince Andrew. She broke the news during the live programme, to which the audience in Bradford, West Yorkshire, applauded warmly.

The error occurred while the panel discussed the King’s decision to officially strip his brother of his remaining Royal privileges, prompting immediate corrections from guests and chuckles from the studio audience. She said: “I should remind everyone that Prince Andrew has, of course, always protested his innocence and denied the allegations.”

Matthew Goodwin and other panellists quickly jumped in to correct her, emphasising “it’s just Andrew” before she raised her hands and admitted: “Of course, it’s Andrew. Forgive me, force of habit,” reports the Express.

She continued: “Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has always denied the allegations against him and the King has said are deemed necessary notwithstanding the fact that he has continued to deny the allegations against him.”

The blunder came just hours after Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had officially removed Andrew’s titles and honours, completing the final stage in his brother’s withdrawal from Royal duties.

In a statement, the Palace revealed a formal notice had been issued to Andrew requiring him to give up his lease at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, where he has resided for over two decades. The monarch’s decision comes after growing calls to remove the Duke from the property following continued public outrage over his connections to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and claims made by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre, which Andrew steadfastly refutes.

Officials confirmed the 64 year old will relocate to accommodation on the Sandringham Estate, with his future housing costs met privately by the King. The Palace stated that “Their Majesties’ thoughts and utmost sympathies remain with the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.

“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.”

Meanwhile, Fiona was compelled to intervene and halt a heated clash between writer Matthew Goodwin and Labour’s Lisa Nandy.

The duo clashed during a heated debate about illegal immigration and crime, with Goodwin contending that increasing migration figures had led to “shocking cases” of violence nationwide and asserting the system was “broken and in urgent need of reform.”

Nandy immediately fired back, labelling his remarks “outrageous” and claiming he was “trying to create distrust, division and fear.” The row rapidly escalated, prompting Bruce to intervene with raised hands, calling out over the commotion: “Matt, wait one second – both of you wait one second! If you talk at the same time, no one can hear anything.”

Andrew stripped of “prince” title, leaves royal residence

Oct. 30 (UPI) — England’s Prince Andrew has been stripped of his official title and will leave his royal residence amid fallout from his relationship with the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew, the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, is alleged to have attended gatherings hosted by Epstein.

Buckingham Palace announced Thursday that King Charles III will initiate the process of removing Andrew’s “style, titles and honors.”

“Prince Andew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” a statement from the palace said.

“His lease on Royal Lodge has provided him with legal protection to continue in his residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.”

Andrew stopped using his Duke of York title and announced in a statement released by the palace that “the continued accusations about me may distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.”

It is the first time that a member of the royal family has been stripped of their title in more than a century, according to the House of Commons.

Andrew will move from the royal residence on the grounds of Windsor Castle to a property on Sandringham, which is the private estate of the King in Norfolk, England, according to ABC News.

Andrew has consistently denied accusations against him regarding his association with Epstein and attacked the credibility of Virginia Giuffre, author of a book centered on Epstein called, “Nobody’s Girl.”

Giuffre died of an apparent suicide in April.

In Feb, 2022, Andrew settled a sexual assault lawsuit filed by Giuffre while not admitting any wrongdoing. Epstein and Giuffre settled a lawsuit for $500,000 in 2009.

Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former accomplice, was convicted in 2021 on child sex trafficking and other charges connected to her involvement with Epstein.

Maxwell has consistently denied all wrongdoing and is the only Epstein associate who has been charged in connection with his crimes.

King Charles, queen to have historic meeting with pope at Vatican

Oct. 17 (UPI) — King Charles III plans to visit Pope Leo XIV next week in the Vatican as the first reigning English monarch since 1534 to pray in a service with the pontiff.

Charles, along with his wife, Queen Camilla, will visit the Vatican on Wednesday and Thursday. They will appear with the pope during a service on Thursday at the Sistine Chapel, where a special seat has been created for Charles.

The chapel was dedicated on Aug. 15, 1483. Michelangelo painted the ceiling from 1508 to 1512.

Henry VIII split from the Vatican 22 years later.

Buckingham Palace on Sept. 26 announced the state visit to the Holy See for late October in the church’s 25th Jubilee Year to “celebrate the ecumenical work by the Church of England and the Catholic Church, reflecting the Jubilee year’s theme of walking together as ‘Pilgrims of Hope.'”

The royal couple had a private meeting with Pope Francis on April 9 in celebration of their 20th wedding anniversary. It took place at Casa Santa Marta hospital in Rome, 12 days before he died.

In 1961, Queen Elizabeth II was the first British monarch since the Reformation to visit the Holy See. Queen Elizabeth died on Sept. 8, 2022, and Charles became king.

“It marks a historic moment in the journey of reconciliation between our Churches,” Archbishop Flavio Pace said in a Vatican press briefing Friday. “It celebrates how far we’ve come — and offers hope for the future.”

This gathering will bring together members of the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of England, of which the king is the supreme governor.

“This will be the first state visit, since the Reformation, where the pope and the monarch will pray together in an ecumenical service in the Sistine Chapel, and the first time the monarch will have attended a service in St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, a church with an historic connection to the English crown,” a Buckingham spokesman told the Guardian.

They also will visit the adjacent Benedictine Abbey. This church, which contains the tomb of St. Paul, had been associated with the English monarchy dating to medieval and Anglo-Saxon rulers who helped with the upkeep.

King Charles will also be honored with the title of Royal Confrater, “recognizing the long-standing ties between the British Crown and the Benedictine abbey attached to the basilica,” Vatican News said.

During the service with the pope, there will be a hymn by Saint Ambrose of Milan sung in an English translation by Saint John Henry Newman, who was canonized in 2019. King Charles attended that event.

Music will be provided by the Sistine Chapel Choir, alongside choristers from the Chapel Royal at St. James’ Palace and the Choir of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The king and queen will also meet Vatican officials.

The Vatican said the “two central themes of the Royal visit are Christian unity and care for the planet.”

The Roman Catholic Church has approximately 1.4 billion members with 20.4% in Europe, including 6.2 million baptized Roman Catholics in England and Wales, and 676,000 in Scotland.

The Church of England is the largest Christian denomination in Britain with 13.3 million followers. The church originated in the break from the Vatican and features Protestantism and Roman Catholicism.

Prince Andrew gives up royal titles amid ties to Epstein

Oct. 17 (UPI) — Prince Andrew, facing scrutiny of his ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, on Friday said he will relinquish his royal titles, including Duke of York, and end his membership of the Order of Garter.

Andrew, who made the announcement after meeting with his brother, King Charles III, will only retain the title of prince, which is required because he was born the son of a queen, Elizabeth II.

Andrew, 65, remains eighth in line to the throne. His other siblings are Princess Anne and Prince Edward.

The last time a duke title was taken away was more than 100 years ago, historian Anthony Seldon told BBC News TV. In 1919, Prince Charles Edward, who was one of Queen Victoria‘s grandsons, lost the title of Duke of Albany for fighting on the German side during World War I.

“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Prince Andrew said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace. “I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”

In 2019, he was stripped of his military titles and positions on several charities.

Andrew has denied accusations against him by Virginia Giuffre in a 2015 lawsuit, and has never been arrested in connection with the abuse allegations. They reached an undisclosed out-of-court settlement in 2022.

“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me,” Andrew said on Friday. “As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

Other members of the royal family were consulted during the discussions, including William, the Prince of Wales, and son of Charles, CNN reported.

“Things are simply not going away,” Robert Hardman, who has written a biography of KingCharles, told the BBC.

“Nothing really has changed constitutionally. What has changed is that he’s not going to use these titles.”

Andrew’s former wife, Sarah, the Duchess of York, will be known as “Sarah Ferguson.”

Their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will not be affected by the decision.

Andrew will no longer attend any royal family’s Christmas events, a source told CNN, but will continue to reside at the Royal Lodge in Windsor in a private tenancy agreement.

Giuffre, who died on April 25 by suicide at 41, alleged Epstein trafficked her and forced her to have sex with friends in 2001, including Andrew. She said Andrew was aware she was underage at 17.

Giuffre also said Andrew sexually abused her on Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, his mansion in Manhattan and at his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell’s home in London.

The Guardian this week published extracts from the memoir of Giuffre. She claimed the prince “believed that having sex with me was his birthright.”

Andrew also faced scrutiny of his links to an alleged Chinese spy, Yang Tengbo.

A tribunal hearing in December upheld an earlier decision to bar Yang from the British. It was revealed Yang was authorized to act on Andrew’s behalf during business meetings with potential Chinese investors in Britain.

King Charles III, Prince Harry meet for first time since 2024

Sept. 11 (UPI) — The relationship between King Charles III and Prince Harry may be on the mend as the two met and spent a short time together in London on Wednesday.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that both father and son were at Clarence House in London together for tea for about 50 minutes, their first such gathering since February of 2024.

Charles made a trip into London Wednesday from Scotland, while Harry, who has lived in the United States since 2020, was already in Britain to attend charity events.

The last time they were together was shortly after the king was diagnosed with cancer last year, at which time the prince met with his father briefly.

Harry had spoken with the BBC in May and said he wanted reconciliation with his family.

After the meeting concluded, the palace said that no more information regarding the meeting would be provided.

The relationship between Harry and Charles has been tense since Harry and his wife Meghan Markle ceased to take part in key royal duties in 2020 and moved to California.

Harry has said we wouldn’t bring either his wife or their two children on the trip without guaranteed security. Once he stopped having royal responsibilities, his protection by the palace in Britain was reduced from full-time to a case-by-case situation.

Epstein ‘victim’ met Prince Andrew, sat on Queen’s throne & was taken to Buckingham Palace, ‘birthday book’ files claim

A SUSPECTED Epstein victim claims she met Prince Andrew, sat on the Queen’s throne, and was taken inside Buckingham Palace, according to bombshell files from Jeffrey Epstein’s so-called “birthday book.”

The woman – whose name has been redacted – penned a glowing tribute to the disgraced financier for his 50th birthday in 2003, saying he had transformed her life.

The claims were made public in a 238-page ‘birthday book’ released by US officials

In the entry, the unidentified woman described how she had once been “a 22-year-old divorcee working as a hostess in a hotel restaurant” before meeting Epstein.

It is unclear who the woman is – but she describes the same circumstances of being lured in and jetted around the world that many of Epstein’s victims experienced.

She claimed: “I have met Prince Andrew, President Clinton, Sultan of Brunei, Donald Trump, Antonio Verglas, Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour, Peter Brant, Kevin Spacey, Chris Tucker, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, brilliant scientists, lawyers and business men.”

The alleged victim went further, boasting she had “seen the private quarters of Buckingham Palace, sat on the Queen of England’s throne” and taken part in lavish adventures ranging from skydiving to attending a Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

The entry was accompanied by bikini shots of the woman on a beach – captioned in handwriting: “And thought you might like.. Some bikini Shots! Bye-bye! XX”.

It also featured a photo of a man and woman walking arm in arm with his hands stuffed down the back of her trousers.

A bold “Thank you!!!” was scrawled underneath.

In the same entry, she praised Epstein directly: “Jeffrey, there are no words to describe how much I appreciate and admire you.

“I believe you are the most extraordinary person I’ve ever met and can’t believe how lucky I am to have become a part of your life.”

New Epstein files FINALLY reveal ‘missing minute’ of prison footage showing movement near rapist’s cell before his death

The explosive claims were made public as part of a new tranche of documents released by the US House Oversight Committee.

It includes Epstein’s will, his infamous address book, and the 238-page “birthday book.”

The book, compiled for Epstein’s milestone birthday, contains messages and photographs from around 40 friends, colleagues and associates.

They were divided into categories such as “friends,” “business,” and “science.”

But names under “family” and “girl friends” were redacted.

Committee chairman James Comer said the release was part of a broader push to obtain full transparency around Epstein’s network, though he accused Democrats of “cherry-picking documents” for political purposes.

Other high-profile names appear in the collection, including entries attributed to Bill Clinton and Lord Peter Mandelson, who has since said he “very much regrets” ever being introduced to Epstein.

Epstein – the convicted sex offender whose connections stretched from royalty to Hollywood – died by suicide in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

Prince Andrew has long denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.

The “birthday book” revelations add fresh controversy to an already notorious royal link: it is known that Ghislaine Maxwell once posed on a throne at Buckingham Palace and that she and Epstein were invited to Balmoral, the late Queen’s Scottish retreat, as guests of Prince Andrew.

As for Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate from whom the “birthday book” originated, she’s currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking.

In recent months, she was quietly transferred to a minimum-security federal prison camp in Texas following interviews with the Department of Justice.

Critics have slammed the move as unusually lenient.

Tourist taken aback by cost of hidden cafe at Buckingham Palace

Callum Ryan, 24, paid £35 for a general admission ticket to walk around the Buckingham Palace gardens on July 22, 2025, and was surprised to find a cafe at the Palace

Callum Ryan discovered the usually closed Buckingham Palace cafe

A tourist was left gobsmacked after discovering a “secret” café at Buckingham Palace and being charged an “extreme” £11 for a slice of cake and a bottle of water.

Callum Ryan, 24, had shelled out £35 for a general admission ticket to explore the Palace gardens on July 22, 2025. To his surprise, he stumbled upon a café nestled behind the Royal residence, open for a limited 10-week period during the summer months until the end of September.

Despite being taken aback by the price list, which included an afternoon tea box for two priced at £50, Callum decided to treat himself to a slice of carrot cake and a bottle of water. The content creator from Wandsworth, London, found the Palace’s pricing “reasonable” given the regal surroundings and expressed his desire to return with his girlfriend.

The cake
He opted for water and cake

He shared: “It wasn’t rammed in the café, and wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be, which was nice, and the atmosphere wasn’t too bad either. I would pay money for this again, and I would love to take my family and girlfriend here because I think this is a really good experience.”

After spotting an advertisement online, Callum booked his visit to the Buckingham Palace gardens on July 22, 2025. Upon paying £35 for a general admission ticket, he discovered the café situated on Buckingham Palace’s West Terrace, just beyond the exit from the State Rooms.

Callum added: “You see a lot of Buckingham Palace behind the scenes, and you get to see things that you never see before. There were things that have been there since the palace first opened, and I even got to see the spot where all the Kings and Queens take their royal pictures.

“It was actually a really cool experience, and there is a strict no pictures protocol, which I thought was good.”

Callum nipped in for a bite to eat and reckons the priciest thing on the menu was an afternoon tea box – costing £50 but feeding two people. Though he reckons coffee is fairly priced, with a hot chocolate and a cappuccino setting you back around £3 to £4 each.

Cake and Champagne
Callum said he would return

Callum opted to keep things simple and grabbed a carrot cake and a bottle of water, which set him back £11. He said: “It was banging. The cake was really good, and as the bottle of water was reusable, it was nice to take it home. The atmosphere in the café was nice and everyone in there was loving it.”

List of items on the menu:

  • Afternoon Tea Box – £50
  • Americano – £3.80
  • Tea – £3.60Flat white – £4.50
  • Americano – £4.80
  • Hot Chocolate – £4.60

King Charles III to host Trump on 2-day state visit in September

July 14 (UPI) — U.S. President Donald Trump‘s state visit to Britain will take place Sept. 17 through Sept. 19 at Windsor Castle where King Charles III will host him and First Lady Melania Trump, Buckingham Palace announced Monday.

Buckingham Palace said Trump had formerly accepted the invitation, six years on from his first state visit when he was the guest of the late Queen Elizabeth II in June 2019. The visit is unprecedented because Trump will become the first U.S. president to receive the honor twice — second-term presidents traditionally receive a tea or lunch invitation.

Itinerary details remain pending but will comprise a packed schedule of events — including a full ceremonial welcome and a state banquet in the castle’s Saint George’s Hall — with all senior members of the royal family involved, including Prince William and Kate, said the palace.

Trump and the first lady will spend two nights at Windsor Castle. The location was moved from the customary Buckingham Palace due to renovations that are underway at the king’s official residence.

Trump, who has hereditary roots in Scotland, is known to be a fan of Britain, and in particular the royal family and all the associated pomp and grand ceremonies.

British Ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson said Trump could expect a warm welcome.

“He should expect a warm reception because he really does love Britain. He hugely admires it,” said Mandelson.

“He trusts [British Prime Minister] Keir Starmer. It’s not a question of expressing our gratitude. My lodestar here is to demonstrate respect, not sycophancy. I don’t think the administration has any problem with that.”

However, the timing sidesteps the issue of the traditional address given to parliament by visiting heads of state, as Trump will arrive a day after the legislature rises for the month-long ‘conference” recess, when political parties hold their annual conventions.

A group of 20 MPs signed a motion back in April calling on the speakers of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords not to allow Trump to officially address either chamber, saying his “misogynism, racism and xenophobia, comments on women, refugees and torture” made it inappropriate.

The motion noted “several concerns on his comments about the U.K., parliamentary democracy, the Middle East and equalities; expresses concern about his conduct around Ukraine; believes it would be inappropriate for President Trump to address Parliament.”

Of the lawmakers who backed the motion, 15 belong to Starmer’s ruling Labour Party.

The stance of parliamentarians contrasts with the optics surrounding French President Emmanuel Macron‘s state visit last week, during which he addressed a packed joint session of parliament and laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Westminster Abbey.

The king initially extended the royal invite to Trump in February in a letter that Starmer brought with him on a visit to Washington to meet with Trump in the White House, which the president accepted on the spot.

During his last visit in 2019, mass street protests forced the cancellation of a procession down the mall leading to Buckingham Palace for security reasons and he traveled between events by helicopter, instead of by road.

He also became embroiled in a social media spat with the mayor of London and appeared to breach royal protocol by walking ahead of the queen.

‘I’ve gone to every European capital city and three aren’t worth re visiting’

Travel expert Dale Peterson has visited every capital city in Europe, but there are three cities in particular that left him feeling underwhelmed and he wouldn’t rush to get back to

With so many stunning European cities just a short flight or train ride from the UK, there’s never been a better time to explore the continent.

While popular destinations like Paris, Lisbon, and Barcelona continue to attract tourists, there are also plenty of underrated gems waiting to be discovered – especially when you can get there for as little as £20. As concerns about overtourism grow, with protests erupting in some of Europe’s major cities, you might want to reconsider your next destination.

If you’re looking to avoid the crowds and discover somewhere new, one seasoned traveller has shared his expert insights after visiting every European capital city.

Dale Peterson, a full-time travel writer, revealed in an article for Business Insider that three cities left him feeling “underwhelmed” after his visits. With some pre-trip research, you can avoid disappointment and discover hidden treasures instead.

Travelling during peak season can be overwhelming, so considering a trip during the shoulder season can lead to a more relaxing experience.

Despite the incredible range of cities Europe has to offer, from exploring the medieval old town of Prague, taking in the street art on the Berlin Wall, or visiting the ancient ruins of Rome, here are the cities Dale would choose to skip, reports the Express.

London

With its iconic landmarks and world-class museums, London attracts approximately 20 million international visitors annually, yet Dale believes the city is “overhyped and expensive”.

The travel writer asserts that there are “so many other worthwhile destinations in the UK”, particularly in the “UK’s picturesque countryside”, such as the Cotswolds or the Lake District.

However, another adventure traveller who runs the blog The Bucket List Mermaid has a vastly different opinion about London, claiming the city is “absolutely” worth the hype.

Amsterdam

Boasting more than 100km of picturesque canals, earning it the nickname “Venice of the North”, and with more bicycles than residents, Amsterdam also features on Dale’s list of cities he wouldn’t revisit.

Despite drawing an estimated 20 million tourists annually, the travel writer remains unconvinced.

“Unfortunately, though, I thought the centre of Amsterdam felt like an overpriced theme park full of souvenir shops and crowds,” he stated.

Dale described Amsterdam as an “overpriced theme park full of souvenir shops and crowds”(Image: Getty)

However, one traveller on Tripadvisor had a glowing review of Amsterdam, describing it as a “wonderful city” with “helpful citizens”.

They praised its compact size, making it easy to explore on foot, and its efficient public transportation system. They also highlighted the city’s great museums, interesting neighbourhoods, and numerous places to eat and drink.

Helsinki

Located in Finland, the happiest country in the world, Helsinki is an ideal destination for exploring Nordic sauna culture. Last year, it was named the world’s most sustainable travel destination by Condé Nast Traveller.

However, Dale found Helsinki to be lacking in excitement, saying: “There’s no denying Helsinki is a clean city. But in my opinion, it feels a little too sterile, lacking in liveliness and exciting things to do.”

On the other hand, Jessica, who runs the blog Bon Traveller, believes Helsinki is perfect for those looking to slow down and connect with nature.

She highlights the city’s incredible design scene, which makes a trip to Helsinki “an experience to remember”.

Foster + Partners wins $62M bid to design Queen Elizabeth memorial

1 of 4 | Foster + Partners’ design bid for the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial, due to open in April 2026, features a statue of the late monarch on horseback in St. James’ Park. Image courtesy of Foster + Partners

June 24 (UPI) — The international architecture firm Foster + Partners was announced as the winner of a multi-million-dollar competition to design a national memorial to the late Queen Elizabeth II in London.

Norman Foster‘s firm beat out five other finalists with its pitch for a new cast-glass bridge inspired by Elizabeth’s wedding tiara as part of a commemorative garden in St. James’ Park, with spaces for visitors for quiet reflection.

The proposals also feature a statue of Elizabeth on horseback and a cast of her and her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, who died in 2021, at a new Prince Philip Gate.

“We showed them together and, in a way, there was this inseparable quality which we sought to convey,” Foster said.

“Our design reflects Her Majesty’s love of history and tradition, while introducing a gentle, unifying intervention that respects the park’s nature and legacy.”

Foster added that the concept also recalled the informality the queen was known for in her interactions with people.

He stressed that the project would have minimal impact on the nature and biodiversity of the park and that the work would be conducted in phases, allowing the public to continue enjoying the existing amenities.

The new memorial will be built close to the statues of Elizabeth’s mother and father, the Queen Mother and King George VI, and not far from the statue of Queen Victoria in front of Buckingham Palace.

“Foster + Partners’ ambitious and thoughtful masterplan will allow us and future generations to appreciate Queen Elizabeth’s life of service as she balanced continuity and change with strong values, common sense and optimism throughout her long reign,” said Lord Robin Janvrin, head of the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee Chair.

The project is expected to open to the public in April in what would have been Elizabeth’s hundredth year. She died in September 2022 at the age of 96.

Famous and iconic designs of Norman Foster around the world include the Reichstag building in Berlin, “The Gherkin” building in the City of London, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank building on Hong Kong Island and the Hearst Building on Eighth Avenue in Manhattan.

Who is Arabella Stanton? Harry Potter’s new Hermione Granger is a star already

Arabella Stanton will play the young Hermione Granger in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series, the Hogwarts Legacy, alongside co-stars Dominic McLaughlin and Alastair Stout

The enchanting new chapter of Harry Potter has officially kicked off.

After months of intrigue and conjecture, HBO has finally unveiled the young stars who will spearhead its eagerly awaited Harry Potter original TV series-and all attention is on fresh face Arabella Stanton, the young actress cast as Hermione Granger, a role once famously played by Emma Watson.

Joining Stanton in the magical trio are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, rounding out the new generation of Hogwarts champions.

The casting announcement, made on 27 May, concludes an extensive search that saw over 32,000 children audition for the iconic roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Watson, according to Forbes. The casting call, launched last autumn, invited hopefuls aged 9 to 11 from across the UK and Ireland to submit two audition videos-one performing a story or poem, and another sharing something personal about a loved one or pet.

And it was Arabella Stanton who emerged victorious, reports the Express.

How are Harry Potter stars chosen?

Behind the scenes, casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann sifted through thousands of auditions to find the perfect match for the magical trio. And according to the show’s creative leads, they found just that.

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” exclaimed showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod in a euphoric joint statement.

Theatre buffs might already be familiar with Stanton’s noteworthy West End debut, despite her being a fresh name for much of the public.

What did Arabella Stanton say about being in the new Harry Potter?

Stanton has shared her own heartfelt reaction on playing the lead in Matilda the Musical on an Instagram account understood to be hers: “I started auditioning for Matilda the Musical the week after my 9th birthday and feel so lucky and honoured to have spent the age of 9 being able to play Matilda Wormwood at the Cambridge Theatre, London for the Royal Shakespeare Company (and at Buckingham Palace for an extra special performance at the BBC 500 Words Final),” the touching post reveals.

Stanton enthused about her first major role: “Being able to play the part of Matilda as my West End debut has been incredible .. dreams really can come true!”

This exciting revelation of the young leads is part of the latest cascade of announcements for the anticipated HBO series, which is quickly drawing together a top-tier ensemble set to populate the halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Here’s who has officially joined the ranks as announced on May 27, 2025.

While the upcoming reboot won’t see any familiar faces from the original film saga returning, one known star has had his say. Matthew Lewis, adored for his portrayal of Neville Longbottom, has ruled out a return to his former role, stating he’s “Too old to play Neville again,” but intriguingly noted he’d jump at the chance to inhabit Remus Lupin’s shoes, the complex yet enlightened Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher.

With a fresh-faced ensemble poised to delve into the wizarding realm and HBO’s daring new direction, an enchanting future looms—and Arabella Stanton might just be at its centre.
