Sunday Brunch hosts forced to halt show and apologise after outburst from guest

Sunday Brunch hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy were left in a flap when one of their guests dropped a swear word – before then asking, too late, if his language choice was acceptable

Channel 4 stars Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy were left embarassed and scrambling to clear the air after one of their Sunday Brunch guests swore live on air. The warm natured weekend daytime show sees celebrities join the hosts to cook and discuss projects.

Among the stars joining the presenters on the Channel 4 show this weekend was 55-year-old American actor Nick Offerman who was on air promoting his Little Woodchucks book. But things took an unexpected turn when the Parks and Recreation star dropped some coarse language while fellow guests sat around clutching mugs of tea.

Nick was asked by the hosts to open up about one of his biggest fears in life – and he explained that he worried about letting down his parents.

He said: “My parents are the greatest citizens I’ve ever met. They lived these beautiful lives of service and they had incredible values. And so naturally, as their kid, I experimented with the other direction.”

He went on: “And eventually with maturation, I learned to try and be a decent person, but I’m always catching up. So when I wake up in a sweat at night, I just think, ‘Are my parents ashamed of me?'”

Asked if he ever apologised to his parents, Nick continued: “I have. When I got to college and I was out on my own for the first time and I had to have my own chequebook, I realised that they had given me all the tools I needed to just be a good person.”

He then sparked anxious laughter and blushes when he added: “I called my dad and said, ‘Dad, I’m sorry for the last four or five years’. And then, ‘I’ve been quite a real t**t.’ Can I say that?”

Tim then desperately jumped in to declare: “You can’t. I am going to apologise for that. But carry on.” Nick then completed his story while everyone in the studio laughed nervously. Sunday Brunch is no stranger to controversy – with guests going off script in the past and causing the hosts to issue an apology.

And earlier this year, there were even reports that comedian Katherine Ryan had breached Ofcom rules when she was a guest on the show. The Canadian stand up was left full of remorse after being told off for repeatedly mentioning Gousto recipe boxes on the show.

It was found that her repeated mentioning of the brand went beyond acceptable limits for what can be deemed “editorially justified”. Channel 4 reacted to the findings by promising to issue “further training” to the makers of the show – which was enough to satisfy the broadcast regulator.

Channel 4 said “the presenters were transparent about Ms Ryan’s commercial connection with Gousto” – however they added the “repeated references to Gousto were unsolicited, unscripted, spontaneous, outside the scope of the agreed contribution and clearly not part of the editorial intent”.

Channel 4 told Ofcom: “Ms Ryan was spoken to by a member of the editorial team. She expressed remorse at having strayed from the agreed script and gave her assurances that there would be no more mentions of Gousto in the programme.”

Strictly It Takes Two chaos as Fleur East forced to apologise for star swearing on air

Strictly Come Dancing’s spin off show It Takes Two came to a halt on Wednesday evening as Fleur East was forced to apologise for professional dancer Alexis Warr swearing live on air

Strictly Come Dancing’s spin off show It Takes Two came to a halt tonight, as Fleur East was forced to apologise halfway through George Clarke and Alexis Warr’s interview.

The pair took to the sofa to discuss their Strictly journey so far, and what they have coming up for this week’s Movie Week, but it seemed that Alexis got a little too excited, accidentally swearing live on air.

Speaking about their Paso Doble to Game Of Survival during week one, George opened up about how he felt during the nail biting first show.

“I feel like the enjoyment came after it,” he said. “I feel like I blacked out throughout it. We got to the end of the routine, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that was the best we’ve done it!'”

His professional dance partner Alexis added: “At the beginning, he hit his beginning position, and I knew right away he was locked in. I was like, ‘Yes George, yes George,’ and I almost forgot to go.

“I was like, ‘Oh wait, oh c***p, I have to move!’ I just noticed he was immediately locked in, in character. Yeah.”

Amid all the excitement, Alexis didn’t even realise she let the swear word slip, but of course, Fleur was on the ball, and apologised to viewers straight away.

“Sorry about the language we just had there,” the former X-Factor star said. “We just get very excited!” she laughed.

George’s appearance on the BBC Two spin-off show comes after he revealed that he was rushed to a physiotherapist last week after injuring his back in rehearsals.

The influencer opened up about hurting his back on his podcast, The Useless Hotline Podcast – inviting on Strictly professional dance partner Alexis Warr for the first time.

“I didn’t want it to be a thing on the night,” he said. “That’s why they asked in the VT, they were like, ‘Do you want to mention your back?’ and I said, ‘I don’t want it to be a thing.'”

He added: “I had a pinched nerve all week in my back. I had acupuncture half way through the week. I went to physio four times.” As for how he did it, George admitted that the injury happened after a handstand went wrong.

“I was like, ‘I’ll throw in a handstand or something.’ I like doing a handstand, if I keep my legs together I’d probably be better at it but it doesn’t feel fun when you do it that way,” he said.

But Soccer Saturday had a nightmare opening 45 minutes while covering the action at Home Park.

Former QPR star Jamie Mackie was tasked with giving updates on the game from the Sky Sports studio.

There was confusion just five minutes in when host Julian Warren went across to the pundit after Caleb Watts had found the back of the net for Argyle.

He announced that there had been a goal, only for it to be disallowed for a foul in the build-up.

The next error came when Argyle star Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu netted an own goal.

Presenter Warren said: “Goal for Plymouth, we have heard this before. Does this one count, Jamie Mackie?”

Mackie then awkwardly replied as the scoreboard said 1-0 to the incorrect team: “It is a Plymouth player that scored… but it is at the wrong end.”

The graphic quickly changed and a red-faced Warren clarified: “It is Barnsley who are in front.

“Apologies for the slight moment of excitement for you Plymouth fans, only to find out you’re behind.”

But the blunders were not done there as The Tykes then made it 2-0.

When Adam Phillips doubled their lead, Sky Sports accidentally made a score correction on the vidiprinter to say it was still 1-0.

They were then forced to hilariously correct the correction.

Warren handled it like a pro, brilliantly saying: “I think the vidiprinter might still be on holiday, lying on a lounger with a couple of pina coladas.”

There were no errors in the second-half as Barnsley won 3-1.

Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt was not too impressed as he was forced to issue an apology over a comment his co-star made.

The BBC show returned to screens on Saturday morning (August 2) with Matt back at the helm. Joining Matt – who is rumoured the new face of MasterChef – on the programme were chefs Paul Ainsworth, Ravinder Bhogal and Justin Tsang.

Strictly star Bill Bailey also made an appearance, and drinks expert Helen McGinn was on hand too, to discuss some booze and to pair the drinks with the studio dishes.

However, just minutes into Saturday Kitchen airing, and things took an awkward turn, when Matt turned to Helen and asked her what she’s got coming up.

“We’ve gone rosé. I cannot wait,” Helen said. Referring to the wine, she said: “It’s from volcanic soil, so it’s got like super energy. It’s like an energy drink!”

Baffled, Matt fired back: “Like an energy drink?!” Helen replied: “Yeah in my world.” Not impressed, Matt then said: “If there are any children watching at home, it is not like an energy drink! Sorry.” He then tried to swiftly move on and chatted to Bill and about his food heaven and hell dishes.

It comes after Matt welcomed back a beloved member of the Saturday Kitchen team last week. In the episode aired on July 26, Matt commented: “He’s back! Olly Smith, where have you been all my life?!”

Olly replied: “Oh well, all your life! Well, over the last few weeks, I’ve had a triple threat of writing, going to weddings, and festivals.”

Jeremy Vine forced to apologise after caller’s ‘disgusting’ on-air remark to Ann Widdecombe

The Jeremy Vine Show was quickly halted on Friday after a caller made a rude and explicit comment to Ann Widdecombe during an intense debate about doctors’ strikes

Channel 5 viewers were left shocked when a caller made inappropriate remarks towards Ann Widdecombe live on the Jeremy Vine show last Friday. The host, Jeremy Vine, was joined by commentators Ann, aged 77, and James Schneider, a former Labour adviser to Jeremy Corbyn.

The panel was discussing the latest doctors’ strikes which began on July 25th. They spoke with a caller named Gregg from Tyne and Wear, who shared that he had previously worked as a junior doctor for five years before leaving the profession to earn five times more at another company.

Gregg stated: “[Being a doctor] is not about the money for me. It’s about the love of the job – it was the hardest decision I had to make. But I have just one thing I need to pose to Ann Widdecombe?”

He then asked: “Hi Ann, how are you?” To which she responded: “How’re you?” Gregg replied: “I’m good thanks for asking. I’m off to work soon but me and a few of the lads at the plant…” At this point, Jeremy interrupted, saying: “Hang on Greg. You’re not going to be rude to Ann. I can just feel the storm coming.”

Ann retorted: “He can be rude to me,” reports the Express. Gregg then made an inappropriate comment, saying: “I was just wondering if she was going to get her t**s out for the lads.”

Jeremy quickly intervened, halting the show and stating: “You see, I saw it coming. The guy’s a clown.” Ann agreed, saying: “You did see it coming.”

“I did see it coming. It’s ridiculous. I could tell,” Jeremy added. “And apologies for the language there. Let’s move on.”

Viewers were left fuming after the inappropriate comment was aired, with many expressing their outrage on social media. One user vented: “Absolutely pathetic. 12-year-old ringing up. Horrible mysogny as well. #jeremyvine.”

Another seethed: “Pathetic man, doing that to Ann. These jokes are so old – he must have the IQ of a 10-year-old to think it’s still funny #jeremyvine.”

A third chimed in: “What a twat! I’m no fan of Ann, but speaking to her like that is disgusting! #jeremyvine.” Jeremy promptly issued an apology live on the show following the incident.

Wimbledon 2025: Organisers apologise after missing three calls after electronic line-calling system deactivated in one game

Had the ball been called out, Pavlyuchenkova would have won the point and taken the game.

Instead, it was replayed, Kartal won the point and went on to break for a 5-4 lead.

Pavlyuchenkova had seen the ball was out – and a TV replay showed that was the case by some distance.

Addressing the crowd, Helwerth said: “We’re just going to check if the system was up and running, because there was no audio call.”

After a telephone call, he announced the electronic system “was unfortunately unable to track the last point” and ordered the point to be replayed.

The rulebook states that if the electronic line calling system fails to make a call, “the call shall be made by the chair umpire”.

It adds: “If the chair umpire is unable to determine if the ball was in or out, then the point shall be replayed. This protocol applies only to point-ending shots or in the case when a player stops play.”

The fact Pavlyuchenkova went on to win the match meant the malfunction was not as costly as it could have been, although she still questioned why the umpire did not call it out.

“That’s why he’s there,” she said. “He also saw it out, he told me after the match.

“I thought he would do that, but he didn’t. Instead they just said replay.

“I don’t know if it’s something to do [with Kartal being] local.

“I think it’s also difficult for him. He probably was scared to take such a big decision.”

This Morning host forced to apologise as ‘offensive’ comment sparks backlash

This Morning host Ben Shephard was forced to issue an apology at the end of the show after a remark made by a guest earlier on in the ITV programme

This Morning swiftly tackled a comment made by a guest earlier on in the show.

As the programme was drawing to a close, host Ben Shephard stated: “We just want to take a moment to apologise if viewers were offended by a phrase that we used, by one of the teams that we had on the show today.

“If anybody was, we would like to say sorry.”

The moment of contrition followed a segment where Gyles Brandreth and Sayeeda Warsi were discussing topical stories.

Sayeeda had remarked during a chat about the social role of hairdressers, reports Wales Online.

She said: First of all, hairdressers are the place people go and offload. For a lot of people, especially older people, hairdressers are one of the few places where they still get regular company.”

“They don’t have a lot of human contact, many of them who may be living on their own. Particularly for black men or coloured men, or Asian men, I know I have doctors who say when men of certain backgrounds come in to hospital and you talk to them about how much pain they’re in, they always undersell because they’re brought up to not share their feelings and to try and be tough.”

Viewers rapidly moved to express their dismay on Twitter regarding the choice of words.

One viewer tweeted: “‘Coloured Men’, it’s 2025, this type of language!!!” While another challenged: “”Coloured men” What colour were they? #ThisMorning”

One viewer expressed their outrage, stating: “‘Coloured Men’ it’s not the 50s 60s 70s ffs how has she not been reprimanded.”

Another chimed in with: “#thismorning coloured men? ! How is this allowed and you’ve let her keep talking?!”.

A social media user questioned: “How is it acceptable for Sayeeda to say” coloured men”? @sayeedawarsi #thismorning.”

While another was shocked, tweeting: “Coloured men”??Did she just say that on national TV like it’s nothing?””

This isn’t the first time This Morning has faced a backlash from its viewers, as earlier in the week, many labelled one segment ‘cruel’.

People were unimpressed by the dog lookalike segment which aired on Monday morning
People were unimpressed by the dog lookalike segment which aired on Monday morning

On Monday, Cat and Ben were joined by two dogs and their owners, who had participated in this year’s annual Greenwich dog show.

However, they competed in a new category introduced for 2025, the Best Bridgerton Lookalike.

Appearing on the ITV programme, the dogs were dressed in costumes complete with wigs while their owners discussed the competition.

Despite many viewers expressing anger at seeing the dogs in costumes on the show, the two hosts addressed the potential criticism they might face.

Cat pointed out how content the dogs seemed, while Ben added: “There will be people asking, ‘Are the dogs happy?’ because dressing dogs up can sometimes get some criticism. Are they happy wearing the outfits? She seems pretty unbothered.”

Charlotte’s owner responded: “She’s pretty used to wearing clothes in general; when we go out, I tend to dress her up and try to coordinate our outfits.”

This Morning is available to watch on ITVX.
