A MAJOR European airport is set to close for months in 2028, impacting all flights.
Charleroi Airport in Brussels, Belgium, will close for 11 weeks as its runway is renovated and the airport is revamped.
All flights will be impacted between August 15 and October 31 – which includes travellers heading away during both the school summer holidays and October half-term break.
Charleroi Airport is the second largest airport in Belgium.
It will undergo a number of updates during the closure, estimated to cost around €50million (£42.8million).
Airlines that operate to and from the airport include popular budget carriers, Ryanair and Wizz Air.

For UK travellers, this will include flights from and to Newcastle and Manchester.
Airlines will need to temporarily reroute their flights to different airports.
Currently there is no further information of what this will look like although is likely to mean cancellations and diverted.
According to several reports, the airport stated: “A complete refurbishment of Charleroi airport’s sole runway, together with other major infrastructure modernisation works, has been scheduled by SOWAER (the company behind the works) for the second half of 2028.”
Works include completely resurfacing the 3,200 metre runway.
The works are expected to impact two million travellers.
