EastEnders icon Diane Parish took to social media over the weekend to share a fun-fuelled video of highlights from the 2025 British Soap Awards – which did not give away any of the winners

Diane Parish was in a celebratory mood on Saturday night as she joined her EastEnders castmates and headed to Hackney for the British Soap Awards 2025. The 55-year-old soap icon, famous for playing Denise Fox on the BBC show since 2006, had been on the long list for one of the show categories.

The star had been initially nominated for the Best Leading Performer gong, but did not advance to the second round of nominations for the prestigious award. Instead, EastEnders co-stars Lacey Turner and Kellie Bright were nominated for the gong alongside Emmerdale stars Beth Cordingly and Eden Taylor-Draper.

Stars from Hollyoaks and Coronation Street were also at the glitzy awards show on Saturday night, which was hosted by singing sensation and cruise ship enthusiast Jane McDonald. The full list of winners was announced on Saturday night, but some fans are waiting to find out who took home which prize when highlights from the ceremony are broadcast on ITV on Thursday night.

With this in mind, Diane took to social media on Sunday to share her own highlights from the night, which did not give anything away. She shared a two-and-a-half-minute-long video from the celebrations, which included footage of her partying with fellow soap stars before, during and after the event.

Uploading the footage to her main grid, Diane wrote: “NO SPOILERS for those who don’t wanna know. But I am sooooo PROUD of everyone who works on @bbceastenders What a night!”

Clips showed her laughing and chatting with co-stars, encouraging members of the public in the live audience to cheer, spotlighting Anita Dobson in the crowd, and partying at the after party. Soap stars were thrown into a panic at the party, however, as the after-show venue was hit by a bomb hoax.

The event was held at London’s Hackney Town Hall after the main awards. But attendees were suddenly asked to leave the venue shortly before 1am after the event had reportedly received a bomb threat.

“We all got evacuated just before 1am. No reason was given at first and security came round and told us we had to leave immediately,” a source told The Mirror – recounting the nerves shredding experience.

“As we all waited in the street outside, security told us there had been a bomb threat. We weren’t allowed back in the building so people started making their way home.”

In a video shared with The Mirror, some of TV’s biggest soap stars can be seen waiting outside the venue as more evacuate – with the likes of EastEnders’ Tameka Empson and former Hollyoaks star Emmett J Scanlan among them.

A show source also told The Mirror: “Owing to a security alert after the recording of the awards, it was necessary to evacuate the after party venue. Everyone was cleared from the building safely.”

Meanwhile, fans of soaps took to social media to slam ITV for failing to broadcast the event live – with many annoyed that they would have to wait until Thursday before being able to see who would take to the stage.

Taking to X to slam the delay in broadcast, one fan raged: “It’s ridiculous that the British Soap Awards isn’t live… there’s more hype for the soap stars arriving outside for something not even airing on tv for another week than there is the Britain’s Got Talent final… sort it out for next year please @itv.”

The British Soap Awards 2025 will be broadcast via ITV1 and ITVX on Thursday 5 June 2025 at 8pm.

Emmerdale Belle legend Eden Taylor-Draper taking break from soap after ‘intense’ year

Emmerdale star Eden is up for two awards at the British Soap Awards this month for her portrayal of domestic abuse victim Belle Dingle, while the hard-hitting storyline is also up for a prize

She’s been a staple in the Dales since the late 1990’s but now, Belle Dingle is set to leave the nest in upcoming scenes.

After a dramatic year at the heart of Emmerdale’s domestic abuse storyline, actress Eden Taylor-Draper is bound to become the belle of the British Soap Awards.

The actress, who will celebrate 20 years of playing Belle Dingle this autumn, is nominated for Best Dramatic Performance and Best Leading Performer while the plot is up for Best Storyline.

On top of that her soap family, the Dingles, are nominated in the Best Family category and Emmerdale is facing off against Hollyoaks, Coronation Street and EastEnders for Best Soap.

“I’m thrilled,” grins Eden, 27. “It’s a little bit scary but it’s been amazing. It’s so hard to put into words, but it’s been the most challenging and exciting year I’ve ever had at Emmerdale.”

The soap announced plans for a domestic abuse storyline centered around Belle Dingle and Tom King back in 2023, and the twisting, slowburn scenario has kept fans hooked.

With fight scenes, confessional scenes, unique perspectives and even alternative outcomes being filmed, the work has been challenging and fulfilling in equal measures for Eden.

Belle and Tom in Emmerdale
Eden has been involved in a tense domestic abuse storyline in Emmerdale(Image: ITV)

“The episode with Belle’s imagination of the different outcomes was challenging because it was like playing many storylines at once and there were some very intense, violent scenes, which were intense to play,” says Eden. “It was a challenge but I also loved it and it’s one of my favourite episodes I’ve ever done.”

The hard-hitting scenes saw Belle bravely confide in her cousin Charity Dingle, played by Emma Atkins, who has been a rock during filming for Eden, alongside James Chase who starred as Belle’s evil but believable abuser Tom King. “Emma’s one of my best friends,” says Eden. “It was just so special that we got to have that moment together.”

During the character’s many years on the soap, Belle has faced serious mental health battles with both schizophrenia and psychosis, she was jailed as a teenager for the manslaughter of her best friend Gemma Andrews (Tendai Rinomhota) and she has been kidnapped by her serial killer boyfriend Lachlan White, played by Tom Atkinson.

Belle appeared in court in a 2014 episode

Despite being trusted with some of Emmerdale’s biggest plot points, Eden reveals she has never had any formal acting training. “No, I’ve never done anything.

I’ve just been at Emmerdale and that’s been it since the beginning,” says Eden. “One of the things about growing up on the show is that everyone that I work with has been a part of who I am today in both how I act and how I am as a person.”

Growing up on set meant Eden felt like she had four parents – her real mum and dad and also Jane Cox, who played her soap mum Lisa Dingle and the late actor Steve Halliwell, who played her dad Zak Dingle. She also cites Charity actress Emma and Cain Dingle actor Jeff Hordley as acting influences.

“I have so much credit to give to Jane and Steve who played Belle’s mum and dad because they were just brilliant and helped me in that environment,” says Eden.

“I’m surrounded by such talented people and it’s such an honour to be able to work with them. I’m always trying to learn, I’m always trying to better myself and be, you know, very natural and also be so in it.

The people around me help because everyone is so dedicated and so good at their craft. It definitely helps learning on the job from such a young age and getting to work with these people daily. It inspires you to keep pushing and keep growing every day.”

The domestic abuse storyline might be over now that Tom is serving three years behind bars, but the reaction from fans will never leave Eden.

“I’d never experienced anything like it with people reaching out and feeling they can share their stories,” says Eden. “The amount of messages I’ve had off people who have followed the story and said, ‘Watching this unfold, I’ve got myself out of that situation,’ or, ‘I’ve spoken to the police,’ or, ‘I’m now in a women’s refuge.’

It just blows my mind. That is the power of soap. To even help one person, it would be incredible, so the fact that multiple people have said we’ve helped them… I couldn’t ask for more.”

In real life, Eden has a very supportive boyfriend in Ed Lewis, her high-school sweetheart. Ed will be accompanying her to the British Soap Awards and regularly helps her learn her lines.

“He is great,” says Eden. “We were friends before we got together so he’s always known what I’ve done and he’s amazing. He’ll stay up with me, running lines, until God knows what hour. He’s very supportive.”

Eden and Ed
Eden is supported by her boyfriend Ed

With so many nominations, Eden is sure to get a lot of screen time when the British Soap Awards is broadcast on ITV1 on Thursday 5 June. Naturally, Eden is looking forward to casting off Belle’s practical padded jackets and jeans for a glamorous ball gown.

“On a night out my favourite bit sometimes is just doing my hair and make-up and listening to music,” says Eden. “I do enjoy that bit. I’m not sorted, I don’t have a dress. It’s all going to be very last-minute, but it will be nice to get dressed up.”

Many Emmerdale faces are up for awards including Eden’s co-star Beth Cordingly who is also nominated in the Best Leading Performer category for her role as Ruby Fox-Milligan alongside EastEnders legends Lacey Turner and Kellie Bright.

No matter who takes the coveted gongs home, Eden knows she and Beth will paint the town red. “I feel like whenever I’ve been at awards with Beth, she is up for a good time!” laughs Eden.

“There’s a good gang of us and I think everyone’s in high spirits. I think that will just be a lovely party… Hopefully I won’t be hungover, but I would love maybe a little dance.”

When she’s not working on a big storyline, Eden loves to travel with Ed. Later this year they’re going to Bali in Indonesia for the first time and they dream of travelling to Japan one day.

“I do love travelling,” says Eden. “I love a little break, I love a big break and I’ve got family in Australia so that’s really cool to get to go to the other side of the world and see them.

Last year I didn’t really travel that much because I was so busy, so this year I’m trying to cram as much travelling in as possible. Japan is on our bucket list and we’re actually heading to Bali at the end of the year and that’s my first time going there, so that should be really nice.”

However, home is where the heart is and having grown up on Emmerdale Belle never wants to leave. “I love it,” she says. “I’m so happy. I guess it’s not fully up to me, it’s up to the producers, but I am very happy there and I’d love to stay around.”

Emmerdale’s Danny Miller ‘confirms’ Robert Sugden return – and more surprises ahead

Danny Miller joined the Loose Women live from the Emmerdale studio this morning, as he seemingly ‘confirmed’ a return for Robert Sugden during his wedding to John Sugden

It’s set to be a huge week in Emmerdale this week with the wedding of Aaron Dingle and John Sugden. However, we’ve all watched enough soaps by now to know that weddings never come without drama. Aaron actor Danny Miller has ‘confirmed’ it will be the exact same for his.

For weeks, rumours have been spreading that Aaron’s ex husband, and John’s brother, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) would be making his return to the soap. The character was last seen in the soap in 2019 after being written out of the show in an “explosive” storyline involving the death of Lee Posner, his sister Victoria’s rapist.

The character was sentenced to 14 years in jail, but as we know, anything can happen in soap land. Could he be released from jail early? Theories have been flying around, and now Danny seemingly confirmed his return while being grilled by the Loose Women.

Denise Welch wasn’t letting Danny go without speaking about the rumours, as she asked the actor: “Is there likely to be a RobRon rerun?”

A nervous Danny chuckled: “It’s so weird, the line’s just gone down as you’ve asked that question,” as the whole studio burst into laughter. Although he wasn’t giving too much away, Danny assured Emmerdale fans they can expect many surprises during the week.

“What I will say is there are some surprises, whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But certainly what I can say is that originally when this idea was pitched and thought about, Robert, whoever that is, wasn’t part of the plan.”

Danny then seemingly confirmed he was now part of the plan as he continued: “But..” before stopping. He then continued: “You’ll just have to wait and see. That’s the idea of me being here. Otherwise it would be boring if I told you either way.”

Danny then laughed: “I can’t remember.” However, nothing was getting past Janet Street-Porter, as she responded: “It’s obvious! This storyline is so complicated your getting confused yourself.”

The star recently announced that his wife Steph was expecting their third baby, as he told the Loose Women: “We’re so lucky. We had days where we thought we’d never have a baby and now we’ve got three.

“Steph is the most amazing mum and amazing wife. I’m very lucky to have her.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.

Emmerdale character ‘to be framed’ for Nate’s murder – and it’s not Cain Dingle

Emmerdale star Amy Walsh has revealed one character will be put in the frame for the murder of Nate Robinson on the ITV soap, with real killer John Sugden undetected

One Emmerdale resident could be framed for the murder of Nate Robinson in upcoming episodes

One Emmerdale resident could be framed for the murder of Nate Robinson in upcoming episodes, but it’s not who you might think.

Despite clues that Cain Dingle could have been to blame for the death leading to him being questioned by police, it’s not him who faces accusations. John Sugden murdered Nate and dumped his body in a stream, and next week the death is finally revealed.

But soon people start pointing fingers at each other, and some future scenes will see one character face the heat. Tracy Robinson actress Amy Walsh has revealed that her character faces the blame, after some well placed hints.

Things have been “seeded” for weeks if not months, all to suggest a motive for Tracy killing Nate. It seems people pick up on these hints, and soon Tracy faces being framed for the brutal murder of her husband.

Of course Tracy was the only who was messaged by ‘Nate’ from Shetland, and then recently she’s been using the credit card that was sent to her address. She also revealed how Nate had organised for his belongings to be collected, and she sent daughter Frankie a birthday present ‘from Nate’.

Teasing what leads to Tracy coming under fire, she hinted John might frame her given it is somehow discovered that Nate’s phone has been in the village this whole time. She spilled: “I had a meeting months ago, it was all to do with Tracy and the cost of living, and her stealing from Pollard.

“I thought, ‘oh gosh, is this my exit? Do I go prison?’, they said no it’s not, and that finding out the Nate thing is further down the line. Up until it came about that Tracy might be framed for it or a suspect for it I didn’t know anything about it. It came off the back of another story where I was asking a question about something that we’d shot.

“They said that has to happen for this and I was like, ‘Oh right, great’.” She confirmed it had been “seeded” for a while all the things that would eventually make Tracy a suspect.

She explained: “Just little bits like Tracy using Nate’s credit card cos that plants her further in the frame for having a motive to get rid of him.”

John Sugden murdered Nate and dumped his body in a stream

She added: “There’s a theory the killer must be in the village cos the phone was there all this time. No one thinks it’s anyone else.” Cain does face some questioning though, with Tracy growing convinced he’s to blame and could be setting her up.

Tracy and her sister Vanessa Woodfield reveal all about Nate and Cain’s fight, and soon the police have questions. Amy revealed: “[He’s] really, very emotional about it and it’s just not very Cain is it. So it strikes a chord and Vanessa is like gosh I’ve never seen him like that.

“In that moment Tracy thinks oh my God I’ve just figured it out. It’s not sadness, it’s guilt. It’s full, real emotion and she runs with it.”

There’s huge scenes ahead on Emmerdale next week, with possibly two deaths being exposed.

As a body is found in the lake, there’s fears it’s Anthony Fox whose murder is about to come to light. But in a dramatic turn of events, Nate Robinson’s family finally learn he’s dead.

News of a body being found leads to those who covered up Anthony’s demise panicking, and soon his killer Ruby Miligan, his daughter who he sexually abused as a teenager, heads to the police station. She begins to make her killer confession, first telling them about the abuse she was subjected to.

As her loved ones desperately try to stop what it already in motion, the character prepares to reveal what she did and keep everyone else out of it. The interview is halted by the arrival of a solicitor just as Ruby is explaining her dad’s vanishing act, and we learn said solicitor has a plan.

So will Ruby get to confess all and will she be locked up? What exactly does her husband Caleb Miligan have up his sleeve? OF course what they are soon to find out is that the body is not Anthony’s, and is in fact Caleb’s nephew Nate.

As it emerges he’s been in the lake for some time and that it’s murder, suspects begin to emerge. Cain Dingle is blindsided about news of his missing son’s death, with Nate’s wife Tracy Robinson also heartbroken.

Cain is left in the frame and faces tough questions from the police as Nate’s final moments are recounted. His own family members begin to question whether he might be guilty, with Tracy also airing her own suspicions – unaware John Sugden is the real killer.

Later, Cain is left reeling when DC Cole arrives and reveals there’s been a shock development in Nate’s case. But what has been revealed and who else might be blamed?

Elsewhere next week, there’s horror for Eric Pollard who suffers a fall as his health deteriorates amid his Parkinson’s disease battle. With no one coming to his aid initially he’s eventually rushed to hospital where he reveals he doesn’t remember anything.

He’s urged to get some help at home but this only leaves Pollard feeling patronised, with him refusing to make changes. But when Eric suffers yet another fall, Kerry Wyatt makes a call to a home-help company, and soon a resolution is met.

There’s also a big decision made by teen April Windsor, who struggles with her exams. Soon she’s given a trial shift for a summer job at Take A Vow, but at a Christening she’s left panicked when she recognises the baby’s father.

Getting flashbacks to her time on the streets, she recalls that the man was someone that threatened to urinate on her – but will she confront him? Also in the village Dawn Taylor pitches herself to Belle as a new business partner, but she’s torn when Belle makes her swear Take A Vow will never take money from Joe Tate.

Soon Joe offers her some money, having already suggested they take over Home Farm weddings and not include Take A Vow. Will Dawn use Joe’s money though? Finally next week, Sarah Sugden worries how she will fund her planned IVF as she continues her plans to have a baby despite her cancer diagnosis.

You know those smug, perfect mums? How well do you really know them? What if they’re not that perfect after all? Little Disasters, airing today (Thursday 22 May) on Paramount+, is a deliciously gripping psychological thriller. Based on the novel by Sarah Vaughan, it follows a group of four women whose friendship implodes.

When Jess (Diane Kruger) takes her baby to hospital with an unexplained head injury, her close friend and on-duty A&E doctor Liz (Jo Joyner) must make the excruciating decision of whether to call social services.

It starts with Jess taking her screaming baby to hospital. It’s A&E on a Friday night and only Liz is available to check baby Betsy. When Liz finds a significant bump on Betsy’s head, she asks Jess what happened – but Jess is sketchy on the details. “She slipped,” she says. Turns out the 10-month-old has a skull fracture and significant bruising. The action flashes back to when she and Jess met 11 years ago at a class for expectant mums, along with two other women.

All six episodes are now available to binge.

There’s plenty more on TV tonight – here’s the best of the rest..

THE HORNE SECTION TV SHOW, CHANNEL 4, 10pm

Riotous, wacky, sublimely silly, this sitcom revels in taking a swipe at popular culture and definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously. Written by and starring Alex Horne, with an appearance from his real life wife Rachel, playing his wife (who else!), this is a second run for the quirky comedy.

Struggling with his newfound fame, the pressures of filming live from his family home, and a subsequent lack of money, Alex is determined to prove to the nation that he’s a credible leader of his band, while trying not to be overshadowed by the real musicians he works with.

It starts with an unsuccessful appearance on Sunday Brunch, during which Alex is irritated by the presence of ‘proper musician’, James Corden’s band leader Reggie Watts. Producer Thora (Desiree Burch) then books Reggie as a guest on The Horne Section TV Show, while C4 exec Ash (Georgia Tennant) commissions talent contest, World’s Strongest Musician, which gives Alex a chance to prove himself. Or not.

NINE PERFECT STRANGERS, PRIME VIDEO

Nicole Kidman returns as the creepy, mysterious wellness guru Masha, who has invited nine new strangers to a transformational retreat in the Austrian Alps. With her ageless face, white blonde hair and bewitching eyes, Nicole is made for this role and this is another thrill-ride of a series.

The nine people have been chosen under bizarre circumstances for a healing retreat – they think they’re heading off to a spa, but they are connected in ways they could never imagine. Over the course of a week, Masha takes them to the brink. She says: “I invited you all here because sometimes you shouldn’t deal with pain gently.”

The first series included vials of blood and digging your own grave, so we know that something sinister is definitely going on. An excellent cast includes Henry Golding, Annie Murphy, Christine Baranski, Lucas Englander, Murray Bartlett, Mark Strong and Aras Aydin. “You have to trust me,” says Masha. They definitely shouldn’t…

EMMERDALE, ITV1, 7.30pm

With Mack being ostracised by sister Moira and mortified over his actions, he backs out of being Aaron’s best man. Belle tells Sam that Nate never arrived at his job in the Shetlands. Suspicious, Belle vows to get to the bottom of his sudden disappearance. John pushes a flashback of Nate’s dead body out of his mind and focuses on relaxing. Sarah slips away to her hospital appointment alone where she’s forced to face her potential cancer diagnosis.

EASTENDERS, BBC1, 7.30pm

Stacey leaves the house for the first time in weeks. However, Kat is concerned when Stacey invites them for a big family meal, fearing that she’s trying to do too much too soon.

Everything comes crashing down later when Stacey realises that her coat and mobile phone have accidentally fallen into the laundry bag and Freddie has taken everything to be washed. The phone contains voicemails, photos and texts from Martin and if the phone is damaged, they will be lost forever.

Viewers of Emmerdale think they have worked out the real father of newcomer Lewis Barton, after a hint by actor Bradley Riches.

The character debuted recently as the secret son of late villain Emma Barton, making him the brother of Ross Barton. Ross had no idea he existed, and faced difficult questions when they met for the first time.

With Bradley Riches’ character wanting to know all about Emma and what she was like, Ross was torn over whether to spill the truth about her killer actions and her fate. During their chats it was confirmed that Lewis and Ross did not share the same father.

It wasn’t known who Lewis’ biological fas was with him given up for adoption after he was born. With Lewis seemingly in the dark about his father, fans immediately suspected the identity of the mystery man.

Viewers predicted he would at some point show up in the village, or at least be identified. Bradley did nothing to cool the speculation either, with him posting the eyes emoji in response to a fan asking about Lewis’ dad on Instagram.

It was clear he was either hiding something or that he was hinting more was to come. With that fans began speculating the father was a character already on the show, past or present.

Some fans questioned whether it was a Dingle who fathered Lewis, despite him being born before Emma even went to the village. It didn’t stop fans speculating though, suggesting “it’s always a Dingle”.

One fan questioned: “Is it Sam Dingle?” as another said: “Eli Dingle.” A third fan posted: “Bound to be a Dingle,” as a further suggestion said: “A Dingle not Cain though.”

Other fans were more convinced a different character no longer on the show, with a link to Emma, could be revealed as the father of Lewis. It would be a blow to Moira Dingle, Ross’ aunt and Emma’s killer, amid her fearing her secret will be exposed.

Viewers think her late husband John Barton, the brother of Emma’s murdered husband James Barton, could be Lewis’ dad. Given James and Moira had an affair, fans wondered if Emma and John had their own fling out of revenge.

Some fans wondered if Emma fell pregnant with John’s child, and the betrayal is what led to Lewis being adopted. Taking to social media, one viewer guessed: “John Barton,” as another said: “Maybe Emma had an affair with John Barton like Moira did with James.”

A third fan commented: “Moira’s husband,” as another agreed: “John, Moira’s first husband.” The theory was shared by others too, as another comment read: “Moira’s first husband,” as another said: “I wondered that, Moira cheered with James so why not Emma with John as a revenge thing. This could by why she had Lewis adopted.”

Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden finally breaks silence on ‘race row’ and ITV suspension

Matthew Wolfenden has spoken for the first time about being suspended from his role on ITV’s Emmerdale after appearing to mimic a Chinese accent on the set

Matthew was admitted to The Priory after suffering a nervous breakdown

Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden has revealed why he was suspended from the ITV soap opera and how it saw him suffer a nervous breakdown. The actor who plays local businessman David Metcalfe vanished from screens in 2021 alongside his co-star, Isabel Hodgins, who plays Victoria Sugden, leaving fans baffled.

At the time, it was reported that the pair had been embroiled in a heated row while filming scenes for Super Soap Week in the same year. Reports claimed that the pair came to blows while filming a scene which involved a waterfall, which aired on October 19, 2021. However, it later emerged that the soap had launched an investigation following claims of a race row.

But until now, Matthew, 45, has remained tight-lipped about his exit from the soap and has confirmed it came after they were accused of mimicking a Chinese accent around the workplace. “We were falsely accused of doing an accent on set,” he said.

The actor was accused of mimicking a Chinese accent

Matthew went on to explain: “Whenever the word race is used, they have to take it seriously.” He explained that a young cast member had mistakenly thought they’d heard the pair putting on a Chinese accent and later complained to a producer about the incident.

He stated that the younger cast member told a producer they were “not very happy” about what they had heard on the set of the Yorkshire-based soap opera. “So, because of this, we did have to get suspended because as soon as that’s an issue, they have to go down the correct routes while they investigate what happens,” Matthew said.

Speaking on Lewis Nicholls Life Stories, he went on to say: “Unfortunately when you get suspended from a continuing drama, you have to get written out of storylines and that is not an easy process because the storylines are written six weeks in advance, you film six weeks in advance and then it’s on screen.

“So even if you’re off for two weeks that could be three months of not being on screen.” He said that he and Isabel had worked together a lot in the lead up to the suspension due to their characters being in a relationship and the pair loved watching comedies.

“So we were sat one day talking about what comedies we loved to watch and we were doing scenes, mimicking the scenes, doing the lines from the scenes,” he said. He went on to add: “And I said to her, ‘Have you ever seen the League of Gentlemen?’

“And there’s a scene in the League of Gentlemen where Reece Shearsmith dresses up as a lady called Pam Doove and it’s called the Orange Juice Scene if anyone wants to Google it and see what I mean. And he’s playing an actress who comes into an audition room and is very eloquent – it’s an old acting joke – and then the director says, ‘Go out of the room and come back in and say ‘Has anyone got a bottle of orange juice?’ for an audition. [She returns and does it in a different accent]. “

Matthew claims he was told by Emmerdale not to speak out which affected his mental health

He stated that the younger star had overheard the conversation and assumed that Matthew was mimicking the Chinese accent, which led to him being suspended over the alleged “race row”. Matthew claims that bosses behind the soap urged him not to speak out publicly about the reason behind his suspension.

He told the podcast he “didn’t have a leg to stand on” as the Emmerdale press team had instructed him to “stay quiet.” Despite this, Matthew stated he was desperate to tell the truth and found it “difficult” not to speak out over an accusation of something he hadn’t done.

He later explained he became unwell due to the mounting stress and suffered a nervous breakdown. “I ended up in The Priory for a month,” he said. Matthew feared he’d lose his job and ended up hitting a “big spiral down” following the rumours. Despite his suspension, Matthew returned to the programme, but fortunately for him, the cast member who made the claim left while he was absent.

Matthew’s character eventually left Emmerdale in 2023 after two decades on the soap. It was initially suggested that David could be killed off after Matthew expressed an interest in taking on other roles. However, David didn’t die and he instead left to be with his ex Priya and their daughter Amba after learning that his son Jacob had fallen for his former partner Victoria. He couldn’t cope with the new romance and decided he had no choice but to make his departure from the Dales, leaving both Jacob and Pollard devastated.

Emmerdale’s Mackenzie Boyd ‘goes missing’ ahead of John and Aaron wedding

Emmerdale spoilers have teased one character goes missing next week despite them planning to be at the wedding of Aaron Dingle and John Sugden, with a new mystery

There's a new mystery on Emmerdale next week it seems

There’s a new mystery on Emmerdale next week it seems, with spoilers suggesting a character goes AWOL in the build-up to a wedding.

While an explanation is hinted at, fans will no doubt fearing the worst amid recent trouble with killer John Sugden. It’s his wedding to Aaron Dingle next week, and a key guest appears to be missing.

So has something bad happened to Mackenzie Boyd amid their run-in with enemy John? Perhaps not, as he’s involved in a separate storyline – but it is a bit weird that Mackenzie would go missing on Aaron’s big day just as things got heated with John.

According to the spoilers, as Aaron and John prepare to say their vows Mack has mysteriously vanished and no one knows where he is. Whether he shows up remains to be seen.

That said, he finds himself caught up in Ross Barton’s drama with his new brother Lewis Barton next week. After the pair try to steal Lewis’ cannabis plants from his secret farm in the attic of his home, Lewis catches them and Mack becomes trapped.

Prior to this, Ross gets Lewis’ keys and manages to get Mack to help him, with them soon finding the farm in the attic. But when Lewis gets an alert on his phone that suggests an intruder is in the attic he opens up a camera app and makes a discovery.

He realises it’s Mack and calls out Ross who he’s with, wanting an explanation from both of them – seemingly trapping Mack in the process amid the wedding. Lewis agrees to let Mack go on one condition, he wants to know the truth about his his mother Emma Barton died.

Whether something else happens to Mack after this and it causes him to go AWOL remains to be seen. There’s also every chance he’s vanished because he’s simply trapped at the home of Lewis.

It comes as John risks being exposed next week when more than one secret threatens to come to light.

Next week it’s confirmed that his ex Aidan has woken from his coma, and soon John is fearful Aidan will expose his lies and the truth about their past.

Then there’s the fact the lake is being dredged due to the slurry leak, caused by John to frame Mack last week. Viewers know that John dumped Nate Robinson’s body in this very lake after killing him in September – so is this the moment the body is found?

With that and Aidan being awake and Aaron having pre-wedding jitters, not to mention John plotting an escape, will the big day go ahead? Will they even make it to the vows? Of course the last thing John will need on top of all of this is for Mack to target him once more – so might John be pushed over the edge?

Emmerdale spoilers: Cancer diagnosis, wedding ‘nightmare’ and killer ‘exposed’

Emmerdale is lining up some key moments and some big twists and turns next week on the ITV soap, with new spoilers teasing discoveries and secrets under threat

There’s some big moments ahead on Emmerdale including a wedding, a killer discovery and a sad cancer diagnosis.

One killer’s nightmare faces coming true, as a special set of episodes, with a change to the usual format, sees him face his nightmares. Elsewhere another killer could also be exposed as a newcomer demands answers.

It’s teased one character goes missing after another discovery, while fans can also expect two men at war and some surprises. We’ll start with the big wedding, as killer John Sugden risks being exposed.

He’s left in a panic when he realises that the week of his wedding to Aaron Dingle could go very wrong, as the lake is being dredged and his ex Aidan Moore has woken from his coma. It seems there’s more to be told about what led to Aidan being in a coma for years, with it believed he would never regain consciousness.

But next week it’s confirmed that he’s awake, and soon John is fearful Aidan will expose his lies and the truth about their past. Then there’s the fact the lake is being dredged due to the slurry leak, caused by John.

He framed Mackenzie Boyd for this but his actions could be about to haunt him. Viewers know John killed Nate Robinson last September and no one in the village knows.

That could be about to change though, as with the lake needing clearing and Nate’s body being in said lake surely it’s only a matter of time before the murder is finally exposed. With that and Aidan and Aaron having jitters, will the big day go ahead? Will they even make it to the vows?

Viewers will be treated to multiple outcomes before seeing what actually happens, with each episode next week forming the same day. We will see John’s fears come to life before finding out whether or not the pair get married.

John even tries to do a runner at one point, caught out by Aaron. Aaron also follows him to the hospital after seeing him head there with Cathleen in his wedding suit – with one moment seeing the wedding called off.

John pleads his case, while one character, Mack, appears to be missing. The ceremony begins, but will it go ahead without any further drama?

Speaking of Mack, he finds himself caught up in Ross Barton’s drama with new brother Lewis. After the pair try to steal Lewis’ cannabis plants from his secret farm in the attic of his home, Lewis catches them out thanks to a camera app and wants answers.

Ross gets Lewis’ keys and manages to convince Mack to help him, with them soon finding the farm in the attic. But when Lewis gets an alert on his phone that suggests an intruder is in the attic he prepares to confront him.

He realises it’s Mack and calls out Ross, wanting an explanation from both of them. But Lewis agrees to let Mack go on one condition, he wants to know the truth about his his mother Emma Barton died.

It seems Ross could finally tell him how Moira Dingle was the true killer, as she’s been fearing would happen. But if Ross does expose her, how will she react and will Lewis let her get away with it?

Elsewhere next week there’s worrying scenes as Sarah Sugden is diagnosed with the early stages of cervical cancer. As she heads to the hospital for her biopsy results alone after recent tests, she’s left struggling to take in the diagnosis.

She’s undeterred over her plans to have a baby through IVF though and learns this still could be possible. Sarah bumps into ex Jacob Gallagher and she tries to put on a brave face, only to break down and confess her diagnosis.

He comforts her but when he realises Sarah found out due to her IVF plans, he’s pretty blunt and shares his clear disapproval of her having a child given her life-limiting health condition, fanconi anaemia. He explains the impact of losing a mum especially when you are younger, before calling her selfish – but how will Sarah react?

Finally next week, and things continue to boil over for enemies Billy Fletcher and Joe Tate. As Billy continues to accuse ex Dawn Taylor of having feelings for Joe after their affair, she has enough with the constant battles – leading to a plan from Joe.

Here’s a list of soap stars that have made their presence known in both Corrie and Emmerdale:

Claire King

Claire King played the role of Kim Tate in Emmerdale from 1989 until 1999. She then took on the role of Erica Holroyd in Corrie from 2014 until 2017.

In September 2018, Claire reprised her role as Kim Tate in Emmerdale after nearly 20 years away, for a special week of episodes in October 2018. She then returned permanently in 2019.

She is known as one of the show’s most iconic characters.

But he was kept on and was seen embarking on a relationship with Paul Lambert, the brother of Nicola King.

More recently, Daniel took on the role of Billy Mayhew in Corrie in 2014 and has remained a regular on the soap ever since.

He takes on the role as vicar at Emily Bishop’s parish and dates barman Sean Tully on the soap.

Zoe first showed up on the cobbles in 1998 as Log Thwaite, Spider Nugent’s vegan girlfriend.

Despite just appearing in six episodes, Zoe’s character made quite the impression, especially when Toyah Battersby tricked her into eating a bacon sandwich.

This ultimately led to Spider breaking up with her.

In 2007 she returned as Casey Carswell, who became friends with Claire Peacock before having an affair with Claire’s husband, Ashley.

Meanwhile on Emmerdale, Zoe’s character is currently involved in a dramatic storyline.

Rhona’s stepdaughter April Windsor suddenly went missing on Christmas Day.

After her family was left fearing that she was dead for weeks, police discovered CCTV footage of her in Leeds.

It is still unclear what happened to the girl, and viewers are worried her mysterious disappearance may be the result of a kidnapping.

Ryan is known for playing Ryan Connor in Corrie and Flynn Buchanan in Emmerdale.

Ryan joined Corrie in 2018 and is part of a major storyline amid the acid attack on the soap and is stuck in a love triangle alongside Daisy Midgeley.

Before this he had his first big soap role in Emmerdale in 2011, Ryan played Flynn Buchanan, a love interest for Aaron Dingle.

The soap first, which will be broadcast in January 2026, teases that characters from both shows will depart and exciting new faces will join as the cast from each of the long-running ITV programmes come face-to-face for the first time.

The hour-long episode is to mark the start of the new ‘soap power hour’ – a schedule change taking hold from early next year.

Emmerdale and Corrie will each broadcast a 30-minute episode every-day back-to-back as part of the new programming changes with the huge stunt set to kickstart it all.

ITV tease that the one-off mash-up will have “everlasting consequences for everyone involved” and will rock Weatherfield and the Dales forever.

Both shows producers, scriptwriters and production teams have worked together to create the record-breaking episode with the impact then being felt as both programmes return to their own hubs for months to come.

Bosses from both shows also say that whilst the soaps will only be seen on-screen together for the one episode, the communities will be forever linked as a result of the as-yet undisclosed stunt.

There will also be an interactive twist for fans to determine one part of the episode.

A vote will be opened allowing soap fans to choose which Emmerdale and Coronation Street character will share a carefully-written scene together as part of the episode.

The schedule change sees both soaps lose one episode a week amid dwindling ratings.

Both programmes currently enjoy six outings a week but this will be down to just five following the epic stunt episode.

Emmerdale will air at 8pm followed by new episodes of Corrie at 8:30pm.

The programmes will continue to upload their episodes to ITVX at 7am each morning.

Emmerdale’s Bradley Riches gets teary as he admits ‘I don’t want to get emotional’

Emmerdale newcomer Bradley Riches, who plays Lewis Barton, appeared on Friday’s episode of Lorraine

Emmerdale’s newcomer Bradley Riches became tearful during Friday’s Lorraine when fill-in presenter Christine Lampard addressed a touching detail.

The 23-year-old Heartstopper actor, who has just entered the ITV soap as Ross Barton’s long-lost half-brother Lewis Barton, received a heartwarming acknowledgement from guest host Christine, 46.

She highlighted: “This [joining Emmerdale] is particularly special because it was your late grandad Peter’s favourite soap.”

As an image of his grandad Peter momentarily graced the screen, Christine remarked: “This was the one, he used to talk about it all the time and here you are starring in something that was so special to him.”

Visibly moved, Bradley struggled to maintain composure, confessing: “I don’t want to get emotional!” which prompted Christine’s warm response: “No, no, I understand. It’s such a lovely lovely thing, it means so much to all of you then.”

In reply, Bradley shared: “I feel like it was one of those things he passed away obviously when I was in Big Brother and it was like a whole year of, I feel like I didn’t get a full goodbye, so when this came up I was like: ‘Maybe this is him saying you’re doing great.'”, reports Leicestershire Live.

Christine responded with words of encouragement: “This is it and I’ve got your back. I’m supporting every single thing that you’re doing.”

Moving on, Christine also noted: “You took your mum and dad on set too. How did that go?”

Christine, 46, pointed out: "This [joining Emmerdale] is particularly special because it was your late grandad Peter's favourite soap."

Bradley confessed: “It was one of those things that was like I thought I would really enjoy it while I was filming but I was doing the rehearsal and I just looked around the corner.

“My mum and dad were like this, I was like get away, they obviously saw the set and it was great for them as well to be there.”

This week’s drama in Emmerdale saw Moira Dingle stumble upon a letter addressed to ‘The Family of Emma Barton. ‘ She later handed it to Ross, who discovered he had an unknown brother named Lewis.

When Ross met Lewis, he found himself tiptoeing around their family history, careful not to spill the dark secrets surrounding their mother Emma.

The meet-up turned tense as both brothers struggled to discuss their past without causing distress. Ultimately, Ross chose to leave, upsetting Lewis in the process.

Ross later told Moira they mutually agreed to forego any attempt at rekindling family ties… but could there be more to Lewis’ story?

Coronation Street legend Denise Welch tipped for a return to popular ITV soap

Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans are in for a treat as ITV have announced a special crossover episode between the two popular soaps – with some iconic characters expected to return

Denise Welch as Natalie in Emmerdale

Odds have plunged on Denise Welch returning to Coronation Street – after a 25-year absence.

The Loose Women star is now 13/8 to walk the cobbles, a fall which comes just as ITV has announced a special crossover episode of its two soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale. Chatter among fans on social media includes hopes favourite characters will return – but ITV has kept tight-lipped about who will star in the episode.

It is understood, though, one character – potentially past or present – from each drama will meet face to face. Although Carla Connor from Corrie and Charity Dingle from Emmerdale are currently the favourites (11/8) to meet face to face, odds suggest Denise’s character Natalie Barnes may be in the running.

But Carla’s potential meeting with Kim Tate (Claire King) is placed at (2/1). Could there be a business deal brewing between Yorkshire and Manchester?

Denise Welch is joining Eastenders to play transgender character Kyle's mum, Alison Slater
Denise appeared in Emmerdale as Heidi late last year, and is also known for appearing as Alison Slater in Eastenders(Image: BBC)

It seems that the Cobbles might witness the return of Loose Women star Denise Welch (13/8) for this crossover event. Denise played Natalie in Corrie between 1997 and 2000, and made an appearance in Emmerdale as a juror named Heidi late last year.

James Leyfield, Entertainment expert at Gambling.com, suggests another popular pairing could see Corrie’s Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) and Dales legend Sam Dingle (James Hooton) team up, with odds of 6/4 for them to meet, reports the Daily Record.

Denise also played Alison Slater in EastEnders back in 2016. She’s also well-known for her role as Steph Haydock in the BBC school drama Waterloo Road, a role she is set to reprise this year in a reboot.

ITV chiefs have yet to reveal how fans will vote for which two characters, one from each soap, they would like to see interact in the crossover episode. One of the most anticipated pairings between Corrie and Emmerdale is Corrie’s Carla Connor, portrayed by Alison King, and Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle, played by Emma Atkins.

It would be a delightful nod to soap history if Ken Barlow, played by Bill Roache, were to share a scene with Emmerdale stalwart Eric Pollard, portrayed by Chris Chittell There are odds of 5/2 for the duo to join forces, but it’s nearly as probable for Corrie and Emmerdale’s villains to share a scene. Gary Windass, played by Mikey North, and Cain Dingle, portrayed by Jeff Hordley, have odds of 3/1 to meet.

Steve and Jai have odds of 6/1 to encounter each other in the crossover episode, and a similar scenario could occur between Corrie’s Nick Tilsley, played by Ben Price, and Dales matriarch Kim Tate. Claire and Ben had an on-screen romance on the cobbles when their characters Erica Holroyd and Nick got together. The odds are 8/1 that they’ll reunite from separate soaps in the special episode.

Natalie Anderson’s new Corrie character Danielle Silverton has odds of 10/1 to meet up with Emmerdale’s Jacob Gallagher, played by Joe Warren-Plant, after Natalie previously played Joe’s mother Alicia Gallagher in the Dales.
