Coronation Street ‘to kill off’ Billy Mayhew in shocking scenes as Daniel Brocklebank exits soap

One of Coronation Street’s longest running characters is reportedly set to be killed off in explosive scenes after being told his time on the show was coming to an end

A Coronation Street icon is set to be killed off, according to reports. After 11 years on the Weatherfield cobbles, time is said to be up on Daniel Brocklebank’s Billy Mayhew.

And in true Corrie fashion, it’s said bosses are planning an explosive exit for the long-running star. The actor behind the man of the cloth was told earlier in the year that his character was to be written out of proceedings on the ITV soap.

It has now been claimed the archdeacon will be killed off in one of the biggest storylines of the festive period. According to sources, bosses don’t have any plans for Daniel’s character to return.

Billy has been a character on Corrie for 11 years

“There aren’t any plans to bring him back onto the soap so it makes sense make his exit the most impactful and explosive it can be,” a source told the Sun.

“It’s likely Billy will be a focus point of the Christmas/New Year storylines, with fans expected to be at the edge of their seats in the run-up.”

With little else known on his exit, fans will eagerly await any big storyline. Daniel, meanwhile previously admitted he was “sad” to be leaving the soap. He recently said: “I have been working on ‘Corrie’ for a quarter of my life.

“I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work. I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”

The actor’s partner, Jordan Coulthard later admitted the decision to leave the Corrie cobbles wasn’t one that was led by Daniel. He also branded his axing as a “huge mistake” by bosses.

According to MailOnline, he wrote on his Instagram Story: “Nothing to say. Not his decision. Huge mistake. I can’t believe we are having this conversation. No words can express how heartbroken I am for him.”

Producer Kate Brooks previously paid tribute to Daniel and his work on the show in a gushing tribute to the star. She said: “Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit.

“We’re incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of ‘Corrie’s biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul’s MND.

“An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes – he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles.”

Fans of Coronation Street have plenty to keep an eye on next week, with multiple characters featuring in drama.

There’s a sad goodbye for one family it seems, ahead of another resident soon departing the show. The latter is included in a new romance too, amid a horrifying lie and surprising scenes.

They’re not the only one hiding something though, as Carla Connor, Kevin and Carl Webster and Theo Silverton are all sparking suspicion next week, amid Aadi Alahan’s new plot. To kick things off let’s discuss the exit that appears to be airing next week. Lou Michaelis has been locked up ever since she was exposed for attacking Gary Windass, ahead of the character leaving the show for good.

With Sally Metcalfe caring for her young daughters and teen son Brody also on the cobbles, Sally takes the girls to see their mum while their brother refuses to attend. Lou reveals she plans to plead not guilty and asks for Sally to fund her legal fees, leaving her shocked.

But later in the week, Sally and husband Tim break the news to Brody that Lou has pleaded guilty which means she will likely go to to prison. So she asks for Brody to visit her – but is this her final scenes? Elsewhere her daughters Joanie and Shanice spark concern with Sally and Tim with something they do after their mum’s news.

Another character soon leaving the show is Aadi. Next week he’s still keeping from Lauren the fact it was his drink spiked with LSD that she accidentally drank, leading to her facing death. Aadi is also acting weird after the shop robbery.

Soon there’s a kiss between Aadi and Lauren as a new romance forms, but when Aadi’s dad Dev Alahan judges Lauren’s past there’s drama. He does try to make amends though, while Aadi is hiding some worrying news when he tells stepmother Bernie Winter that the insurance company are not going to pay them after the robbery.

He reveals how he missed a payment and they won’t get a penny. Soon a confession from Dev leaves Bernie plotting ahead of their wedding, but what will she do? Carla is also hiding something next week amid her supporting her partner Lisa Swain.

After Lisa’s recent turmoil she began therapy sessions, forced to face her past. After the shop robbery we saw the police detective freeze instead of catching the thief.

Carla encourages Lisa to continue with the sessions next week, assuring her she’ll be back on top form in no time while Lisa isn’t so sure. But it’s soon clear Carla is hiding something when at work, Michael Bailey spots something on her laptop screen and is left very intrigued – so what is Carla up to?

Todd faces trouble next week

Theo is continuing to hide his sexuality from people next week despite his romance with Todd Grimshaw. He bumps into an old friend and makes out Todd is a woman, but there’s more trouble ahead when Noah heads back to the cobbles.

Theo previously revealed Noah was involved in the conversion therapy Theo was forced to endure when he was younger. Noah tells Theo to attend a meeting with him to “save his soul”, and the next day Noah is caught practising conversion therapy on a member of his congregation.

When Todd lashes out the incident is caught on camera and he’s taken in for questioning by the police. Accused of assault, Todd fears the worst but Theo does his best to support him.

Elsewhere, Debbie Webster is still coming to terms with living with dementia, and her change in behaviour continues to alarm her loved ones. When she snaps at a guest at her hotel, she’s filmed by them – only for Ryan Connor to step in to help his friend.

He’s reeling though when Debbie thanks him by kissing him on the lips. Ryan reveals all to Debbie’s partner Ronnie Bailey, leaving him reeling while Debbie is oblivious. Ryan warns Debbie that if it had been anyone else they might not have been so understanding.

Meanwhile, Debbie finds out her brother Carl is in trouble next week and asks how much money he needs. Soon his brother Kevin spots his secret meetings with Fiona, and soon all becomes clear about his schemes and his dodgy dealings at the garage.

When a car is nicked, Kevin tries to stop it but feels unwell. He’s taken to hospital and soon tells Carl he’s fine, only to tell his sibling he knows what’s gone on – leading to them both facing tough questions.

Carl reveals he knows Kevin has lied about his cancer, but will his wife Abi find out the truth? Finally next week, teen Sam Blakeman continues to feel traumatised after recent events with villain Mick – and it soon leads to a row with his cousin Lily Platt when she admits she locked him out of the classroom on purpose.

Coronation Street’s Jacob Roberts hints at Kit Green’s grim fate after injury

Coronation Street star Jacob Roberts has opened up about his character Kit Green’s fate following the police officer’s brutal stabbing at the hands of Mick Michaelis

Coronation Street’s Jacob Roberts may have inadvertently revealed the grim fate of his character, Kit Green, following a recent injury admission on Monday (July 14).

Jacob made his debut on the ITV soap last year as police officer Kit, who has been grappling with numerous challenges of late.

Kit was first introduced to his biological mother, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), who had previously given him up for adoption. He later reconnected with his troublesome school mates, Mick (Joe Layton) and Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty).

Mick found himself behind bars after murdering Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) last month, while Lou is currently in custody following her recent assault on Gary Windass (Mikey North).

Jacob, who portrays Kit, appeared on ITV’s Lorraine this morning, where he discussed tonight’s shocking episode with host Ranvir Singh. The episode sees Mick return to the street after breaking out of prison, reports Leicestershire Live.

In the hour-long episode, now available for streaming on ITVX, Mick shows up at Underworld in search of his eldest daughter, Joanie (Savanna Pennington).

He traps Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) in the office, while a frightened Sally (Sally Dynevor) hides Joanie on the roof.

Kit soon arrives on the scene, leading to a violent confrontation between the former friends that culminates in Mick stabbing the police officer. A gravely injured Kit is then rushed to hospital, with a horrified Sarah and Bernie looking on.

During his chat on Lorraine, Jacob opened up about a painful incident he experienced while shooting an intense fight scene with his on-screen nemesis.

“Me and Mick, Joe Layton who plays him, all our scenes together, we’re pretty much fighting all the time,” Jacob remarked, teasing the tumultuous times ahead for his character.

“And you only have half an hour to do the fight scenes with the fight coordinator, so there’s no time for error in those sort of scenes,” he further divulged.

“He literally lamped me on the chin, and as a true thespian he reacted straight away, like, ‘Oh, sorry’. I wish he’d just carried on… My jaw was hurting for the rest of the day.”

The 35 year old star didn’t shy away from sharing a personal low point that coincided with his Coronation Street debut—the harrowing ordeal of his rescue dog, Bugsy, going missing.

“The first day I was on Coronation Street, I needed someone to obviously mind him, and my dad had taken him out and I think he escaped the leash. He was out for eight hours,” Jacob confided.

“He was terrible at recall when I got him… I was just stressing throughout the day… I finished work and was out for two hours trying to rugby tackle a dog, but he’s good now.”

Where Coronation Street fans recognise newcomer Ollie from as he makes move on Dee-Dee

Coronation Street fans were introduced to new character Ollie in tonight’s episode, as he insisted on buying Dee-Dee a drink, but where have fans seen actor Raphael Akuwudike?

Ollie and Dee Dee
Coronation Street fans may have seen Ollie before

There was another new face introduced in the cobbles tonight, as Coronation Street fans were introduced to new character Ollie, played by actor Raphael Akuwudike.

Ollie was a regular punter in the Rovers, who came over to Dee-Dee Bailey and insisted on buying her a drink. As he tries to chat her up, Dee Dee can’t help being charmed, although reluctant to get to know him at first.

Is happiness finally on the horizon for Dee-Dee or could Ollie be bringing even more trouble into her life?

Although Dee-Dee may not have seen Ollie before, many Coronation Street fans would have, as it’s not Raphael’s first soap, or TV role. Although his roles may have been small, fans may be scratching their heads as they wonder where they’ve seen him before.

Murder mystery fans may recognise the new character for his role as Kit Harcourt in The Marlow Murder Club. The star played the role as Kit Harcourt, alongside stars including Samantha Bond, Jo Martin and Cara Horgan. In the small role earlier this year, Kit’s was found at the Marlow Yacht Club, and he was killed by a blow to the head.

Coronation Street isn’t his first soap role however, as he starred in an episode of Doctors in 2019, as he starred as Beni Cameron.

The actor has also starred in a number of theatre shows, including The Player Kings (The Noel Coward); Beautiful Thing (Stratford East); Romeo and Juliet (The Almeida) and Sons of the Prophet (Hampstead Theatre).

Fans are begging ITV bosses to protect Dee-Dee Bailey
Will Dee Dee get her happy ever after?(Image: ITV)

It’s been a tough ride for Dee-Dee this year – and she’s certainly not had the best of luck in her love life. She thought she found the love of her life with fiancé Joel Deering, however, his sick crimes came to light last year and he was killed shortly after.

While with Dee-Dee, Joel attempted to kill Lauren Bolton, before she went on the run for months – only to return pregnant with his child. Lauren later got her own back as it was revealed she was the one who pushed Joel into the river.

However, Dee-Dee’s nightmare didn’t end there, as she later found out she was pregnant with Joel’s child. Will she ever find her happy ever after?

Coronation Street fans thrilled as soap favourite returns after going missing

Corrie viewers saw Dee-Dee Bailey quietly go through with christening her daughter Laila on tonight’s episode and the event marked the return of Adam Barlow after his absence

Viewers were thrilled by a character’s return on Coronation Street tonight after having not been seen for some time. The resident ended their absence by making an appearance at a special occasion in Weatherfield.

The latest episode of the ITV show saw Dee-Dee Bailey (played by Channique Sterling-Brown) quietly christen her daughter Laila away her family. She organised the event behind the back of her brother James Bailey (Jason Callender), who’s in the process of adopting his newborn niece. Fans saw Dee-Dee and other attendees gather at the Viaduct Bistro following the ceremony to celebrate the occasion. Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) and Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), who are Laila’s godparents, were with her, alongside vicar Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), who led the service.

Sair Khan and Sam Robertson sat together in a bar set for a scene on Coronation Street.

It marked Adam’s on-screen return after fans had noticed that he’s been absent for months. The character is said to have last appeared in March prior to tonight’s episode, though there was no mention of where he’s been in the scenes.

One fan wrote on X in May: “Where’s Adam Barlow May I ask? Last seen onscreen 7th March 2025. Somebody do something.” Another said: “I’ve just realised something about #Corrie. Where the hell has Adam Barlow disappeared to?”

Questions over the character’s whereabouts have continued more recently. Last month, someone asked: “Where’s Adam these days? And Ken??”

Addressing his return this week, one fan asked this evening: “Bloody hell. Where has Adam been?” Another said: “OMG ADAM BARLOW RETURNS!” A third wrote: “Adam finally comes back and ruins lives. Welcome back, sweetheart. Nice new ‘do as well”

Someone else reacted: “Adam! Welcome back. We haven’t seen you since March. Hopefully you’ll have a story now.” Another viewer said: “Adam Barlow! Welcome back, hun. Can they make Adam and Alya interesting now please?”

Adam made his presence known in tonight’s episode though as he inadvertently prompted a confrontation between Dee-Dee and James. It came after he had asked Dee-Dee why her brother hadn’t joined them to celebrate, with her making excuses.

James later turned up at the bar and questioned his sister on her decision to christen Laila after he had previously dismissed the idea. Asked how he found out, James revealed that he had received a text from Adam about the gathering.

He shared the message, which read: “The christening was great. I know you’re not into God mate but come and toast your daughter.” Adam said: “Now I’m thinking it wasn’t the best idea.” He however said he was “trying to do a nice thing”.

Daniel Brocklebank, Channique Sterling-Brown, Sair Khan and Sam Robertson sat together in a bar set for a scene on Coronation Street.
They were guests at a christening organised by Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown, centre left), with the service led by Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank, left)(Image: ITV/Coronation Street)

Dee-Dee explained: “You know how much I wanted this for her. I tried to talk to you, James.” She added: “I asked you and you said ‘no chance’.” He responded: “So you went and did it anyway?” Dee-Dee said: “I’m sorry but you had no respect for my wishes.”

Alya and Adam went to get some treats so the siblings could talk the situation through. Later, Dee-Dee apologised for lying James but said that she was doing what she believed to be right. He questioned if he can trust her now though.

Coronation Street continues tomorrow from 8pm on ITV, ITVX, STV and STV Player.

Coronation Street star left gutted over co-star’s exit after ‘bonding’ on soap

Corrie cast member Joe Layton, who plays villain Mick Michaelis, has spoken about his former co-star Colson Smith’s departure from the ITV soap opera earlier this year

Coronation Street star Joe Layton has spoken about a former colleague’s exit from the show

Soap star Joe Layton has spoken about a co-star’s departure from Coronation Street ahead of his own exit from the ITV soap. He’s paid tribute to a former colleague who left the show recently after more than a decade in the cast. It was announced in January that Colson Smith, 26, would be leaving Corrie after having joined the cast in 2011. He made his final appearance in May when his character Craig Tinker was killed off in a storyline involving co-star Joe, 33.

Police officer Craig was attacked by Mick Michaelis (played by Joe) whilst trying to arrest him. He was left for dead after being hit over the head with a baseball bat and was later pronounced death at hospital due to swelling on the brain. Ahead of his own departure, Joe has now paid tribute to Colson, whom he said brought a “positive energy” to the set. He suggested that his former co-star’s absence is felt by the remaining cast and crew behind-the-scenes on the show.

Joe told the Mirror: “He was such a positive energy and for the other cast and crew there’s obviously a massive Colson-sized hole everywhere at Coronation Street. But we had a good chat when we first met and continued to chat.”

The actor added that he had “bonded” with Colson over their mutual support of football team Leeds United. He went on to describe his former colleague as “warm-hearted” whilst talking about Colson following his exit.

Joe said: “We were both Leeds United fans, so we bonded over that pretty quickly. And I was just struck by what a lovely warm-hearted person he is. He never made me feel in any way shape or form: ‘I’m doing this bad thing to this popular character’.”

Colson had revealed that he wanted to his character to be killed off for his exit. He told the Mirror and other press earlier this year: “I would want the door to be shut, so then I can kind of know in my head that Corrie has been this, Corrie has done that, and it is now done, and Craig’s journey is over.”

He continued at the time: “It was the right thing for me to be killed.” Colson explained: “I think Craig dying, and Craig dying in the line of duty as a copper, that kind of hero’s death was by far the most perfect story for the exit.”

Joe is now set to leave Corrie himself, though his final scenes are yet to air. It’s been teased this week that the cast member, who would happily return, will be leaving the cobbles with a bang.

His character Mick is set to cause mayhem after breaking out of prison. Joe teased: “No-one on the street is safe. […] Serving a life sentence isn’t something he can deal with and he’ll do whatever it takes to get out of the country and take his kids with him.”

Coronation Street continues tomorrow from 9pm on ITV, ITVX, STV and STV Player.

Coronation Street’s Joe Layton hit with shocking real-life abuse after on-screen evil

Joe Layton’s evil character Mick Michaelis is back to cause chaos in Weatherfield but as Joe tells The Mirror he’s already received a torrent of online abuse from viewers

Corrie cop killer Joe Layton has been forgiven by Colson Smith for killing off his much-loved character PC Craig Tinker in a violent attack with a baseball bat. The same can’t be said for fellow Weatherfield residents, whose lives will be in danger next week when Joe’s character Mick Michaelis runs amok on the cobbles after a dramatic jail break.

As he tries to snatch his kids and flee abroad, Mick lands DC Kitt Green in hospital, needing lifesaving surgery. Joe, 33, who is leaving the soap, says of Colson: “He was such a positive energy and for the other cast and crew there’s obviously a massive Colson-sized hole everywhere at Coronation Street. “But we had a good chat when we first met and continued to chat.

“We were both Leeds United fans, so we bonded over that pretty quickly. And I was just struck by what a lovely warm-hearted person he is.“He never made me feel in any way shape or form: ‘I’m doing this bad thing to this popular character.’” Playing a Corrie baddie has prompted some unexpected encounters. Joe tells The Mirror: “I was in Scotland with my sister who lives up there. We were sitting outside a restaurant having a drink and a lady came out from the restaurant.

“She stood next to me and looked at me and she went, ‘should you not be in prison?’

“She told me that she and the five ladies inside sitting looking at us through the window were all police officers, including the head of the constabulary in Scotland!” Monstrous Mick has had Corrie fans on the edge of their seats since he first stepped on to the cobbles back in February.

But Joe, who was spotted by a US agent at 22 and moved to the States – where he spent 6 years after being promised Hollywood stardom – says his younger self would have turned the role down. Joe, who returned to Britain five years ago, says: “If you’d asked me when I moved to America if I’d ever do a soap, I think I’d have said ‘no.’ No disrespect to soaps, but I didn’t think they were for me.

“I’m just so happy that I was offered the role in Coronation Street when I was. I’d grown up a bit and my attitude towards work had changed. “It’s a great lesson for me that you should try everything, because what I experienced in my six months at Coronation Street was incredible.” And he will be leaving the cobbles with a bang, as Mick causes mayhem after his jail break.

“No-one on the street is safe,” Joe warns. “We’ve seen what he’s capable of – he’s already killed Craig and attacked Kit. “His plan is to look for his kids and try to escape. We see a different side to him and how much his kids mean to him.

“Serving a life sentence isn’t something he can deal with and he’ll do whatever it takes to get out of the country and take his kids with him.” Joe’s big break came 11 years ago when he landed the lead role in the BBC drama series Tatau.

Joe is a seasoned actor and previously appeared in Tatau in 2015
Joe is a seasoned actor and got his big break in US series Tatau in 2015

“I came out of drama school and hit the ground running,” he recalls. “I did Tatau and off the back of that I got picked up by a US manager and US agent and had the opportunity to go out there.

“They said ‘you’re going to come over and you’re going to do whatever you want to do.’ In your early 20s why would you not believe that?”

But, renting a studio apartment in the middle of Los Angeles, the scales soon fell from his eyes “It was great, but it was like living next door to Harrods, but not having any money,” he laughs. “I was walking past all these lovely shops and restaurants, but I was cooking baked beans back in my apartment.”

Still, he was delighted to land a role in the hit American TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “When I first drove into the Universal Studio parking lot, I remember sitting in my car calling my dad saying ‘you’ll never guess where I am,’” he smiles.

But, despite this great role, life in LA could be tough. At times, he admits: “I also worked as a carpenter and doing food delivery. I was a very small fish in a very big pond. “It was demoralising at times, but it also taught me to stand on my own two feet.”

And when he started being offered bigger jobs back in Blighty, he came home. Since then, he’s worked alongside Jodie Comer in Thirteen, he appeared in the Dawn French comedy The Trouble with Maggie Cole and in the Netflix crime drama Young Wallander, as well as being cast in the BBC series The Bombing of Pan Am 103.

Then came Mick – a wife beating thug and one of Corrie’s nastiest characters of recent years. “I got a lot of hate online in the form of comments or tweets or direct messages,” Joe recalls. “I think everybody just thought ‘There’s no room for this guy on the street, we don’t like him, get rid, we wish that you’d never existed as an actor or a person!’ “Because Corrie is such a staple in so many people’s day to day and because it’s been on so long, there’s sometimes a fine line separating reality and your character.

“I was lucky that my previous job was The Bombing of Pan Am 103. That was airing at the same time on BBC. So, the night that Craig was killed I was on ITV at 8-9pm and then 9-10pm I was on BBC playing a really nice American character.”

London-born Joe, who grew up in Ilkley in the Yorkshire Dales, wrote a journal as Mick, to help understand his character. “I wrote it first person as Mick,” he explains. “It was just a stream of consciousness. “I was playing an abusive husband who kills a police officer. On paper that’s dreadful and horrible, but my job as an actor is to get to the why and the motivation. You don’t judge the character; you try to understand them and step into their shoes.

“Mick is a really wounded, angry man who has been let down and fallen through the cracks at multiple different times in his life. Sadly there are lots of men out there like that.”

But Joe, who would happily return to Corrie, won’t be watching his final scenes. He is filming in Lithuania for a new Apple TV sci fi series Star City, in which is is playing a Russian cosmonaut alongside Rhys Ifans and Anna Maxwell Martin.

“It was really exciting to go straight into that,” he says. Joe, who will also be touring the UKwith the play Lost Atoms in September, is glad he will miss his soap exit. He says: “When I did my very first TV job my mum organised for lots of friends and family to come over and watch and I felt more nervous than I’d ever felt performing on stage in my entire life!’ he says. “I was hardly in it, but I still felt self-conscious.

“So, the morning that Craig was killed, I went on ITVX at 7.30am to watch it on my own, to prepare myself before I watched it with my girlfriend and our friends in the evening!”

Coronation Street spoilers: Prison break horror leads to siege and ‘death twist’

Coronation Street is lining up yet another drama-packed week next week on the ITV soap, as spoilers confirm a prison escape leading to a siege, as someone faces grave danger

Coronation Street is lining up yet another drama-packed week next week on the ITV soap

There’s dramatic and deadly scenes on Coronation Street next week, as more than one character faces danger.

A prisoner escapes and sets out on a mission that could prove fatal for one character. As recent events lead to a horrifying point, more than one resident faces peril.

It’s a big week for multiple characters and the repercussions of the prison escape leads off into different stories. Elsewhere away from the siege drama, one character is unaware that a fellow resident has feelings for them, there’s concern for one youngster leading to a realisation and the battle for No.6 continues leading to a possible discovery.

Kicking things off, villain Mick Michaelis makes an action-packed return to the show next week as he plots to escape with his family. He manages to break out of prison, with images appearing to show he’s had a beating.

Mick finds out his wife Lou is in trouble and the family is falling apart, so the desperate character takes action weeks on from him killing PC Craig Tinker. We see him in his cell reading messages on his burner phone, and it’s clear he’s in contact with his son Brody.

Brody arrives at Tim and Sally’s wanting to collect his sisters Joanie and Shanice, while Sally tells him that Tim is taking Joanie to a taster day at Weatherfield High. Brody panics, and lets Mick know there’s an issue.

At the school Joanie is left in tears over some hurtful comments made about her parents, so Sally is called to collect her. But Mick has no idea and heads to the school to get his daughter, threatening Daniel and Mrs Crawshaw before locking them in the office and fleeing.

Lou meanwhile is questioned by the police who demand to know what Mick is planning, while she denies knowing about the escape. Back on the cobbles, Sally offers Joanie a tour of the factory while the girls are at the pub.

With news of Mick’s escape revealed, his nemesis detective Kit Green heads to the street but can he stop Mick from doing anything stupid? It seems something happens and Mick could hurt Kit, while either way the latter is left in a bad way.

Rushed to hospital, his family are left fearing he might not make it as he has to undergo life-saving surgery. It comes after his showdown with Mick, but will he pull through and what has actually happened?

Brody goes AWOL after events and Bernie Winter fears for his safety – so has Mick fled with his family? Nothing else is said about Mick and the family, so fans will have to wait and see what comes of it.

It seems Mick’s terror at the school impacts other residents, as teen Sam Blakeman is troubled in the aftermath. When Hope revels to Sam’s dad Nick Tilsley that his cousin Lily hid in a classroom but wouldn’t let Sam in and he was left to fend for himself, he’s furious and speaks to his brother David, Lily’s dad, about it.

Someone clearly struggling amid the scenes is detective Lisa Swain. With upcoming scenes showing the character attending therapy where she must face her past, and her trauma over her wife Becky’s death, it seems Lisa continues to spark concern next week. Carla Connor can’t hide her fears for her partner as Lisa acts out of character.

There’s an incident with a thief, as someone tries to steal from the shop. But as Carla urges her partner to act Lisa completely freezes and can’t do anything but watch on. Aadi soon tells sister Asha that he was threatened and forced to empty the safe.

When the police arrive to ask what happened, Aadi explains the robber made off with £6k in cash and says it’s a good thing they’re insured. But the look on his face and his shifty behaviour leaves stepmother Bernie confused – so is he hiding something?

With that, the end of the week sees his dad Dev Alahan return to the show after months offscreen. As he reunites with partner Bernie and son Aadi he wants to know what he’s missed.

Back to Carla and Lisa and the immediate fallout of the robbery, and as the thief flees the scene Carla and Lisa look on rattled. But it’s something Lisa does, something she wouldn’t normally do, that leaves Carla deeply troubled.

She lets the thief run off and doesn’t arrest them, frozen in horror, which leads to Carla asking about this. But Lisa shuts down and refuses to discuss what happened, and it’s clear Carla is worried about her – so what is going on?

Kevin Webster is still keeping up his cancer lie next week it seems, as he assures pal Tyrone Dobbs that he will tell wife Abi the truth about his results once they’re back from their weekend away. Soon his sister Debbie Webster is sharing her fears about not being able to live closer to him amid his health turmoil, with Kevin left feeling guilty at tricking his sibling.

It's a big week for multiple characters

It comes as Debbie is furious when her hopes of buying No.6 with partner Ronnie Bailey, after their reunion, fall flat. She hears from the estate agent and learns they have lost out to Carla, who is hoping to move in with partner Lisa and stepdaughter Betsy – while we expect Ryan Connor will have a room in his aunt’s new place too.

Debbie isn’t ready to let it drop though and makes another offer, but Ronnie is horrified and begs her to retract it. Will Kevin be forced to admit to his sister that she doesn’t need the house as he’s been given the all clear?

Finally next week, Aadi is continuing to get closer to Lauren Bolton out of guilt after she drank a drink spiked with LSD recently that was meant for him, leading to her almost dying. He has no idea though that his recent kind gestures have left Lauren developing feelings for him – but will she learn the truth?

Explosive Coronation Street trailer sees Craig’s killer Mick Michaelis escape prison

Corrie villain Mick Michaelis was previously jailed for brutally killing policeman Craig who was trying to arrest him for drink driving. Now he is getting ready to break out of lockup

Mick Michaelis was jailed for murder on Coronation Street

Things are about to get very intense on Coronation Street, as a brand new trailer teases a dramatic prison break when killer Mick Michaelis makes a desperate bid to flee Weatherfield with his children.

Fans will see Mick (Joe Layton) go on the run in an episode set to air on Monday, July 14, after orchestrating a daring escape from prison. With nothing left to lose, the desperate character is on a mission to reunite his fractured family – but his plan could leave even more destruction in its wake.

Mick is spurred into action after hearing that his family is falling apart without him. Convinced that they belong together, he makes a bold and risky move to take Brody, Joanie and Shanice away from everything and start a new life elsewhere.

Now the man is set to make a comeback as he preps for a jailbreak

But with police in hot pursuit and his violent past catching up with him, the fugitive poses a serious threat to anyone who gets in his way.

His first stop is Weatherfield High, where he is determined to track down his daughter Joanie. But when he realises she’s already been taken home by Sally ( Sally Dynevor ), Mick heads straight for the cobbles – with DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) not far behind.

Completely unaware of the danger that’s coming, Sally takes Joanie to Underworld to give her a quick tour while the factory girls are at the pub. But things quickly take a sinister turn when Mick arrives on the street, ready to do whatever it takes to get to his daughter.

With Kit in pursuit, it’s only a matter of time before the situation explodes. What exactly does Mick have planned – and will Kit manage to stop him before it’s too late?

Actor Joe Layton has spoken about the dramatic scenes coming up, explaining: “He isn’t after revenge, this is about him wanting to get his family together and start a new life with them. The anger that we saw when he killed Craig has been replaced by desperation and love for his family, but that doesn’t make him any less dangerous. Kit is potentially putting his life on the line once more in his attempts to stop Mick.”

Viewers will remember that Mick arrived in Weatherfield earlier this year with wife Lou (Farrel Hegarty), and quickly became the street’s nightmare neighbour.

Things turned deadly when Mick brutally murdered police officer Craig Tinker by bludgeoning him to death with a bat after a tense confrontation.

Craig had been trying to arrest Mick following a suspected drink-driving incident, but it ended in tragedy. Mick has been behind bars ever since – but that is soon set to change.

Will Mick escape with his kids? Or will his twisted quest to reunite his family end in disaster?

Mick’s escape episode airs on ITVX and YouTube at 7am on Monday July 14th and on ITV at 8pm

Is Emmerdale and Coronation Street on tonight? Full soap schedule this week amid ITV shake-up

Emmerdale and Coronation Street face a huge schedule change this week as ITV continue with their sports coverage. Here’s when you’ll find Emmerdale and Coronation Street on this week

Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans face a huge shake-up this week as the soaps move times for the football. As usually happens, the soaps have been displaced this week on ITV to allow for the airing of various football matches.

Those hoping to kick off their week with some Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be sorely disappointed as both soaps won’t air on Monday due to back to back football coverage. The same will apply for Wednesday, with no soaps on.

On Tuesday, viewers will be treated to a trip to the Dales whilst on Thursday, soap fans who love the drama in the Woolpack and the chaos on the Cobbles will get two full hours of soaps – one hour from each programme.

Friday is the only day where the soaps will air as normal, with Emmerdale airing at 7.30pm and Coronation Street airing for its usual hour slot at 8pm. There will be no soaps on the weekend, despite ‘missing’ episodes.

John has been up to his usual tricks on Emmerdale!

Usually we get three hours of Coronation Street every week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and three hours of Emmerdale every week (half an hour each day and an hour on Thursday). However, this week, we will only get two hours of Emmerdale and two hours of Coronation Street across the five days.

This actually aligns more with the plans for the soaps from 2026. From next January, the soaps have been cut by half an hour each. Instead of airing at their current pattern, there will be a ‘power hour’ of soaps.

Emmerdale episodes will air at 8pm, and Coronation Street episodes will air at 8.30pm. These will air in half an hour slots from 2026, meaning the soaps will be cut down by half an hour each each week.

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, said: “This new pattern is in the DNA of the soap genre – nobody else does 30 minute drama this successfully.

“It creates a soap power hour that’s consistent, and easy to find in the linear schedule, for the UK’s biggest soaps. This new commissioning pattern will mean five hours of soaps a week, rather than the current six. We are conscious this will have an impact for the people who work on the soaps team. We will support our colleagues in ITV Studios as they work through these changes, and will do what we can to mitigate the impact on our people.”

Emmerdale and Coronation Street’s full soap schedule for this week:

Monday: No soaps

Tuesday: Emmerdale 7.30pm

Wednesday: No soaps

Thursday: Emmerdale 7.30pm (hour long episode), Coronation Street 9pm

Friday: Emmerdale 7.30pm, Coronation Street 8pm

Coronation Street star Craig Charles concerned fans after he pulled out of his scheduled appearance at London Film and Comic-Con this weekend. The 60-year-old actor is best known for playing Lloyd Mullaney for a decade on the long-running soap, but was due to appear at the event for his Red Dwarf character, Dave Lister.

The star was due to appear alongside Red Dwarf co-stars Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn and Hattie Hayridge. Taking to their Facebook page, London Film and Comic-Con wrote: “We contacted Craig at 9am to be told that due to a family emergency, he would not be in until 11am. At 11.30am we spent 20 minutes knocking on his hotel room door where there was no answer.

“His Red Dwarf colleagues were able to contact him at 12.30, where he confirmed he was ill and unable to attend. These are the facts.

“The Group shot will go ahead with Danny, Robert and Hattie, and ticket holders will receive an automatic £60 refund to allow for the change of lineup. If anybody does not want the group shot, any unused tickets will automatically be refunded after the show.”

Not long after the post was shared, Craig took to his X/Twitter to apologise to fans, writing: “I’d just like to say sorry to showmasters and the fans at comicon. I made it to the hotel but woke up at 3 this morning with stomach pains.

“I then proceeded to be violently ill for hours. Not a pretty sight. I tried to see if it would wear off but at 10 am I called it off and came back to Manchester.

“I’m feeling slightly better now, and I’m drinking lots of water and electrolytes. Again sorry for the cancellation and I look forward to next time.”

Fans rushed to the comment section to share their support, with one fan posting: “Hope you feel better.

“You don’t have anything to apologise for trust me someone that just got food poisoning two days ago I know exactly what you mean by coming down with something very quickly.”

Another concerned fans posted: “Take care of yourself. I’ve been watching you as Dave Lister since I was a child, Red Dwarf was and is still my favorite show.

“Lister inspired my love for curry and good tunes. It may be sad, but you were the closest thing I had to a father figure. Love from America, my guy.”

One commented: “As long as you’re on the mend that’s the main thing.” Red Dwarf is a sci-fi comedy that aired between 1988 and 1999, which follows technician Dave Lister, who awakens after being suspended animation for three million years to find that he is the last living human and that he’s alone on the mining spacecraft.

Coronation Street fans gobsmacked as they realise two stars are mother and son

Coronation Street has seen a number of real-life family members appear on the cobbles over the years – but fans were left stunned after realising two stars are mother and son

Two stars of Coronation Street share more than just their ability to captivate audiences. Over the years, the ITV soap has welcomed several real-life family members onto its iconic cobbles. Real-life siblings, cousins, and even parents and their children have all graced the set.

Cousins Brooke Vincent and Ellie Leach have made a name for themselves on the soap, while the late Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) was actually the real-life brother of footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn). But they’re not the only ones with familial ties both on and off screen. Fans have recently been taken aback by one mother and son duo that appeared on the soap years ago.

Back in 1985, Sue Jenkins joined the ITV soap as Gloria Todd. She became a regular face on the show as a barmaid at the legendary Rovers Return, reports the Daily Star.

Sue also worked alongside Julie Goodyear who famously played landlady Bet Lynch.

In addition to her Corrie role, Sue portrayed Jackie Corkhill in Brookside for nine years between 1992 and 2001. She also had a brief stint in Emmerdale in 2008, appearing in five episodes as Bonnie Drinkwater.

Corrie stars Helen Flanagan and Richard Fleeshman
Richard Fleeshman is Sue’s son

However, it turns out she has a very famous son who also made an appearance on Corrie. In reality, Sue’s son is Richard Fleeshman – who played Craig Harris.

Richard joined the cast of Coronation Street back in 2002 with his TV family, the Harrises, who were hiding due to the witness protection programme. His character Craig certainly had some memorable moments.

He adopted a goth persona, much to his father’s dismay, and became Rosie Webster’s (portrayed by Helen Flanagan) first boyfriend. The drama escalated when Katy Harris, Craig’s sister, murdered their father following a heated argument about her clandestine relationship with Martin Platt.

Their mother, Angela Harris, attempted to shield Katy, but overwhelmed by guilt, Katy took her own life. In the aftermath, Craig planned to flee to Berlin with Rosie, but ultimately departed alone, bidding farewell to the cobbles in 2006 for good.

The revelation of Sue and Richard’s Corrie connection left fans online astounded. On X, previously known as Twitter, one viewer posted about Sue’s stint on Corrie.

Another fan responded: “That’s Richard fleeshmans mum!”.

A third person commented: “Wow, all this time watching and I never knew that, I can see her son in that photo now.”

Another added: “Her real life son played Craig Harris, son of Psycho Tommy!”.

Coronation Street star teases true identity of Gary’s attacker in ‘revenge twist’

Coronation Street’s Maria Connor will be left devastated to learn her husband Gary Windass has been attacked, and now actress Samia Longchambon has teased who did it

There could be a revenge twist looming on Coronation Street as the identity of who attacked Gary Windass is set to come to light

There could be a revenge twist looming on Coronation Street as the identity of who attacked Gary Windass is set to come to light.

Maria Connor will be left concerned over her husband’s disappearance in upcoming scenes when she realises something bad has happened. What she doesn’t know though is Gary is in a coma in hospital after being attacked.

While we know Nina Lucas and Summer Spellman are linked to the crime, we have no clue yet as to who committed the assault. That said, spoilers have confirmed Gary’s attacker is covering their tracks, even pretending to be his next of kin as he remains in a coma.

The mystery person has given the hospital a fake identity for Gary too, so Maria and his loved ones have not been informed. Ahead of their identity being revealed to viewers, Maria actress Samia Longchambon has teased what’s really happened to the character.

Ahead of Maria hunting for her missing husband and then eventually finding out he’s been in hospital, the actress teased who could be behind it. She shared: “Maria’s mind is spiralling now but she doesn’t stop for a second to think who actually attacked him and put him in a coma.

“She’s aware Gary has got a lot of enemies from over the years who could have potentially wanted to take revenge on him.” So could Gary’s attack be a mystery revenge plot, and is it someone from his past?

Maria will turn to detective Kit Green in upcoming episodes, sure something is terribly wrong. Determined to find him, Samia teased Maria could take matters into her own hands to figure out what has happened.

After an unknown coma patient is found, Maria will be told by Kit that it isn’t Gary. On what’s ahead, Samia spilled: “I think she feels comfort that Kit has assured her that he’ll do everything he can to find Gary, but that absolutely wouldn’t stop Maria from doing everything she can to find him.”

The news about the coma patient not being Gary leaves Maria with mixed emotions as she fears her husband could be dead. Samia explained: “When Maria learns that Gary isn’t the coma patient, she is with Kit and confides in him that she knows it’s awful but she actually wishes it was him just so she knew where he was.

“It’s bittersweet for Maria because she’s of course glad Gary isn’t in a coma, although little does she know he actually is, but at the same time she’s worried even more now because her fear is he could be in a worse condition or even dead.” The disappearance came after Maria and Gary rowed over Lou, while Maria is yet to discover how Lou tried to kiss him before blackmailing him before he left to visit his mother Anna Windass.

But amid her initial thoughts on Gary staying away because of their drama, something leads to Maria panicking. Samia said: “It was definitely when Gary misses Liam’s birthday that Maria starts getting really panicked and nervous.

“She was obviously worried before where he was because he had been gone a long time and was ignoring her messages and phone calls and thought they would have sorted it out long before that. But as soon as he misses Liam’s birthday she absolutely has a gut feeling that something isn’t right and thinks something awful might have happened to him.”

She went on: “She’s really upset that he’s gone but it’s not until he’s been gone too long that she realises something is really wrong and is even more worried. Her emotions turn from being upset about the fact that they’ve fallen out to being worried about his safety.”

ITV announces huge change to how soap fans can watch Emmerdale and Coronation Street

From the beginning of next week, soap fans will be able to watch Emmerdale and Coronation Street via a whole new service – leaving many fans rejoicing at the news

ITV have announced a huge change to the way soap fans can watch their shows

Soap fans were both excited and confused when ITV announced a major change to their weekly output. For decades, fans have tuned in to watch new episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street on the channel when they air on week day evenings.

But as of Monday 30 June, fans will be able to watch new episodes from the beginning of the day as they will be available to view online hours before they transmit via traditional transmission avenues. Taking to social media on Sunday, social media channels connected to the soaps shared exciting news with fan.

The update revealed that new episodes will be available to watch via YouTube for the first time. The official Coronation Street Instagram page announced: “Soap fans, rejoice!

“Starting tomorrow, full episodes will be available on YouTube from 7am — the same day they air on TV!” The update included an image showing Emmerdale and Corrie characters posing beneath logos of their respective soaps.

The update thus caused some confusion – as some fans thought that the cast of the soaps were being merged. One follower remarked: “I literally thought Debbie was joining Emmerdale for a moment there!”

Content cannot be displayed without consent

And others were excited to learn that they would be able to watch their favourite soaps via a new format – as many complained the ITV app is nigh on unusable.

One hopeful soap fan commented: “Nice I hate itvx with their [user interface] and 27 ads a ep.” And another commented: “This is awesome news! Yayyy!”

In recent months, ITV has announced a number of changes regarding the way Corrie and Emmerdale will be broadcast. In February it was revealed the schedule would be changed from the beginning of next year.

One Emmerdale scene featured real tears from one actress as she was faced with saying goodbye to a co-star forever
Emmerdale fans will also be able to watch the soap via YouTube(Image: ITV)

A statement from the broadcaster explained: “From January 2026, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will move to a new scheduling pattern on ITV1, introducing a soaps power hour from Monday-Friday, with 30 minute Emmerdale episodes at 8pm, and 30 minute Coronation Street episodes at 8.30pm. Episodes will continue to drop at 7am on ITVX, before transmission that evening.”

ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo said at the time:“The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led. We already give more choice than ever to viewers on how they watch us through ITVX and we want to present their favourite soap to them, in the most digestible way.

“In a world where there is so much competition for viewers’ time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows.

“Research insights also show us that soap viewers are increasingly looking to the soaps for their pacey storytelling. Streaming-friendly, 30 minute episodes better provide the opportunity to meet viewer expectations for storyline pace, pay-off and resolution.

“Whilst viewing is growing on ITVX, we know a significant proportion of our soaps’ audience still watch us via the schedule. This new pattern is in the DNA of the soap genre – nobody else does 30 minute drama this successfully. It creates a soap power hour that’s consistent, and easy to find in the linear schedule, for the UK’s biggest soaps.

“This new commissioning pattern will mean five hours of soaps a week, rather than the current six. We are conscious this will have an impact for the people who work on the soaps team. We will support our colleagues in ITV Studios as they work through these changes, and will do what we can to mitigate the impact on our people.

“These changes are motivated by doing what we believe is best for the continuing success of these important programmes in the long term. They also create headroom in the overall programme budget for investment in programming that can help ITV grow reach in a very very competitive market.”

Coronation Street ‘reveals’ who attacked Gary – but it’s not Nina or Summer

Coronation Street’s latest episode confirmed Gary Windass was in a coma amid a brutal mystery attack, but amid Nina Lucas fearing she’d done something, is someone else to blame?

Coronation Street may have ruled out Nina and Summer as Gary's attacker
Coronation Street may have ruled out Nina and Summer as Gary’s attacker(Image: ITV)

Gary Windass’ attack on Coronation Street will be hot topic as fans try to figure out what happened to him and who did the crime.

But perhaps two people have been ruled out despite it being heavily hinted they are involved. Gary was revealed to be in a coma in hospital during Friday’s episode of the ITV soap.

Prior to now it was thought he’d been staying with his mother Anna Windass away from Weatherfield, but when he didn’t return home his wife Maria Connor was concerned. Then on Friday Maria got a text message from ‘Gary’ stating he was fine and at a mate’s house, and would be home soon.

Of course new information has come to light though that could well suggest Gary has been in a coma for days, and therefore did not send that message. Well of course he didn’t send the text, as by the end of the episode we saw him in hospital and unconscious.

So whoever attacked Gary must have his phone, and is covering their tracks. New spoilers had teased a cover-up was underway, ahead of Maria reporting Gary as a missing person with the police in upcoming episodes.

Something will make Maria’s blood run cold, sending her to the police station in a bid to find her missing husband. Amid her concern, someone, or more than one person perhaps, knows where he is, and knows what has happened.

READ MORE: Coronation Street Gary Windass faces death as secret attacker covers up grim crime

As well as keeping the truth from Maria and Gary’s loved ones, the mystery attacker, it’s soon revealed, has told the hospital a fake name for Gary while also claiming to be his next of kin. The attacker is clearly trying to stop the truth from coming up, going to desperate lengths to cover their tracks.

These scenes will be delved into in the coming weeks as the plot continues. But Friday’s episode appeared to confirm that it was Gary who Nina Lucas and Summer Spellman had seen the night they were on drugs.

The girls were high on LSD when something sent them racing to the café, screaming and crying. They soon revealed they’d witnessed something bad, torn over whether to tell the police.

During Friday’s episode Nina broke down to her uncle Roy Cropper, and eventually she explained everything to him and detective Kit Green. We learned that what Summer and Nina had seen was a man “lunging” at them, before Nina pushed him and ran in terror.

She claimed that before they fled the man fell and hit his head. She told Roy there was blood and the man was not moving, but fearing for her safety she and Summer ran away and did not say anything.

Friday's episode appeared to confirm that it was Gary who Nina Lucas and Summer Spellman had seen the night they were on drugs

Now Nina is convinced someone is hurt and it’s her fault, asking Kit if a body had been found or if someone was missing. As no one believed the incident happened Nina struggled, sure that something was going on.

She told Roy she’d hurt someone and that she was determined to find out who. In that moment we saw Gary in hospital, with it alluding that Gary was the man Nina and Summer saw, and that perhaps Nina was the one who attacked him.

But a couple of things clearly rule Nina and Summer out. The fact someone has been posing as Gary and messaging Maria, this cannot be Nina as she has no idea who the man is and if it even happened.

She’s also confessed to everything, struggling with that’s happened too, so for her to send messages or cover up the crime doesn’t make any sense, let alone posing as Gary’s next of kin. The same goes for Summer, and neither of them seem to be aware of the link to Gary.

Gary Windass' attack on Coronation Street will be hot topic as Maria Connor decides to report her husband as a missing person
Gary Windass’ attack on Coronation Street will be hot topic as Maria Connor decides to report her husband as a missing person(Image: ITV)

She also doesn’t seem to be aware the man she saw, Gary, is in hospital, yet the person who attacked him does know he’s there and will likely visit him given the spoilers about what the attacker does to cover up their crime. It just wouldn’t make sense for Nina to be desperate to work out who they are and tell the police, and then secretly know the truth – so who did attack Gary?

Whoever it is must have his phone, and must know he was away from Weatherfield amid their cover story. So far fans have wondered if Gary was robbed or attacked on his way home, or if, given it likely happened around Monday’s episode, someone at the party was involved.

A theory suggests teenager Brody might be to blame after he fled the party, after Gary’s run-in with his dad Mick. Viewers suggested Kit may be covering for Brody, as other fans wondered if Lauren Bolton attacked Gary thinking it was Joel Deering. A further theory suggested Debbie Webster may be to blame after her recent arrest.

Coronation Street Gary Windass faces death as secret attacker covers up grim crime

Coronation Street’s Gary Windass has been missing for a while, and now spoilers have confirmed he’s secretly been attacked and is fighting for his life in a coma

Gary Windass' fate in Coronation Street and what happened to him will finally be explained

Gary Windass’ fate in Coronation Street and what happened to him will finally be explained on the ITV soap, as a shocking new image confirms his fight for survival.

The character has been missing after failing to return home, leaving his loved ones worried. It escalates next week as Gary misses his stepson Liam Connor’s birthday, and Maria Connor decides to report her husband as a missing person.

Detective Kit Green soon gets involved and reassures Maria that an unidentified coma patient discovered is not Gary. But we learn someone has attacked him and is covering their tracks, with their identity revealed very soon.

New spoilers and a horrifying image reveal Gary is facing death, and is fighting for his life in a coma. While spoilers had revealed Gary was in hospital, there’s new details surrounding the mystery.

Gary has been viciously attacked by a yet to be named person or people. He’s now unconscious in hospital, with it yet to be revealed whether he survives or not.

As his family wonders where he is, someone knows and has chosen to stay silent. After brutally attacking Gary they’ve gone to huge lengths to cover up their grim crime, and we will see the full extent of this in upcoming episodes.

Not only that, but it’s been revealed that the attacker is hiding Gary’s real identity to stop his family from being informed about what has happened. The attacker is still very much involved in the plot, and we will soon find out who they are and why they did their crime.

Gary is very close to the Street, in a coma in Weatherfield General – so will Maria and the police find him? Friday’s episode will reveal the moment Gary is revealed to be a coma patient at the hospital in a dramatic development to the mystery surrounding his vanishing act.

As Maria’s concern continues she’s stunned to get a message from him claiming to be staying with a mate. But something happens next week that leaves her seriously worried, and she heads to the police station to report him as missing.

The attacker meanwhile has claimed Gary is someone else, faking his name and identity. To make matters worse, the attacker is also fraudulently claiming to be his next of kin.

Knowing the state he is in, they continue to keep it from his family to cover their tracks. Obviously pretending to be family to keep an eye on his condition, what will they do if Gary wakes up?

Gary remains in a critical condition as the storyline continues, and the episodes ahead will delve into the events that left him in a coma. With secrets to be uncovered and the identity of those involved coming to light, there’s so much to come out about what has happened.

A former soap star has addressed speculation that she’s being considered to voice the title role in a Doctor Who spin-off. The upcoming project is in development at the moment but no casting has been unveiled for it yet.

It was announced recently that there are plans to launch a pre-school animation series about the Doctor on CBeebies. The BBC said that the Doctor Who spin-off for a younger audience will “run independently” from the main show.

There’s been speculation about the project, with a thread on Reddit last week naming actors who could voice the Doctor. It claimed that the broadcaster’s shortlist includes Justin Fletcher, Richard E. Grant and Denise Welch.

Denise, 67 – whose acting career has included roles on shows like Coronation Street and Waterloo Road – has since addressed the speculation. She reacted to being named in the thread in a post on Instagram this afternoon.

Alongside a photo showing part of the thread, she wrote in the post: “I definitely think this job should be mine.” Denise, who tagged Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies, 62, then used two thumbs up and the ‘flushed face’ emoji.

Although they don’t appear to have previously worked together, Denise and Russell are both patrons of the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester. They both took on the role in 2019, joining Tracie Bennett, who became a patron in 2016.

Loose Women panelist Denise has appeared in numerous TV shows over the course of her career, including having played Natalie Barnes on Corrie. Her other credits include Waterloo Road, Benidorm and more recently Hollyoaks.

The BBC announced the CBeebies spin-off of Doctor Who on June 12. It shared that the animated show will see the Doctor travelling through time and space, solving mysteries and problems alongside companions and other friends.

In a statement issued at the time, Patricia Hidalgo, Director of Children’s and Education, said: “Everyone is welcome at CBeebies, including the Doctor!” Patricia went on to describe the upcoming series as an “exciting opportunity”.

Patricia said: “This much-loved franchise entertains millions around the world, so it is only right that our younger audience get to experience the wonder and the magic of the Doctor in a brand new format. This is an extremely exciting opportunity, and we are looking forward to welcoming companies to pitch for this new project, as we continue our commitment and investment in the UK’s animation industry.”

The news comes just weeks after the latest series of Doctor Who concluded last month. The season finale, the Reality War, which aired on May 31, marked the departure of lead Ncuti Gatwa, who had played the Doctor since 2023.

At the end of the episode, viewers saw Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor regenerate – with Billie Piper then shown in his place – in a bid to save Poppy (played by Sienna-Robyn Mavanga-Phipps). In one reality, Poppy was the child of the Doctor and his companion Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu).

Vera star Kenny Doughty’s life from Coronation Street to his famous co-star wife

Kenny Doughty was a well-known face on ITV as he starred in Vera as DS Aiden Healy for 10 years before his exit from the show and he also had a short-lived role in Corrie

Actor Kenny Doughty, who stole hearts as DS Aiden Healy in ITV’s hit crime drama Vera alongside Brenda Blethyn’s DCI Vera Stanhope, has bid farewell to the show that made him a household name.

Having joined forces with the Northumberland and City Police back in 2014 and dedicating a whole decade to aiding on-screen crime solving, Kenny announced he would be leaving the role of Aiden.

Although he remained tight-lipped about the reasons for leaving initially, earlier this year, in an emotional revelation to The i Paper, he disclosed it was all due to his stepdad’s terminal cancer diagnosis.

Kenny paid a heartfelt tribute: “Steve was a glorious, delightful man,” expressing his deep admiration, “I was proud to refer to him as my ‘dad’, not my stepfather.”

Moreover, he fondly recalled Steve’s influence on his life, crediting him for teaching valuable lessons.

“He was a lecturer in agriculture when he met my mum, and he taught me how to be a better man,” Kenny’s final months with his stepdad were both poignant and personal, involving a hands-on project of building a wooden house together in Ireland.

“It was a no-brainer, choosing to quit work and spend those last six months with him. We built a wooden house together by their home in Ireland and he taught me about wood, joinery, carpentry,” Kenny shared, encapsulating the irreplaceable time they spent together, reports Devon Live.

Vera itself concluded with its last episode in April 2025 following Brenda Blethyn’s departure.

Kenny was born in Barnsley and raised by his single mother, who pursued education after parting ways with his father when Kenny was still young. After earning a BA in English literature, she became a successful businesswoman and provided mentorship for community members.

Kenny initiated his acting career with small parts in films such as I Want You and Elizabeth, Heartbeat and the comedy series Dinnerladies.

He has featured in numerous popular television programmes; however, his role as Sean in the Sky series Stella in 2012 brought him more fame.

Kenny’s Corrie role

Soap fans will recall Kenny as builder Jake Harman in Coronation Street back in 2009.

Jake was introduced to the cobbles when local businessman Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) employed him to repair a roof. In a comical scene, he falls from a ladder and ends up hanging outside Michelle Connor’s (Kym Marsh) bathroom window.

After assisting Jake to safety, Michelle accidentally dropped her towel and he planted a kiss on her. A displeased Michelle dismissed him and reported Jake to the police for stalking before they briefly dated.

Kenny has also appeared in some of television’s most popular series including Heartbeat, Stella, Wire in the Blood, Casualty, and more.

In 2013, the actor played Gaz in a UK tour and the West End production of Simon Beaufoy’s stage play The Full Monty.

This year, Kenny made a comeback to prime time television in Channel 5 drama The Au Pair, where he portrayed the character Chris for four episodes.

Kenny’s famous wife

Kenny has found love again with well-known actress Ashley Jensen, 55, acclaimed for her appearances in Extras, Shetland, and Agatha Raisin. He’s taken on the role of stepfather to Ashley’s teenage lad, Frankie.

The two actors joined forces onscreen for the BBC One drama Love, Lies, and Records back in 2017.

Hailing from Scotland, Ashley portrayed Kate Dickenson in the esteemed drama series, with Kenny stepping into the shoes of the character Rick Severs.

Their budding romance blossomed a few years following the tragic passing of Ashley’s spouse, Terence Beesley, whose credits included The Bill, EastEnders, Heartbeat, and Midsomer Murders. Ashley and Terence’s decade-long marriage was blessed with a son, Francis.

In an intimate reveal to The i Paper, Kenny shared his views on parenting, saying: “I don’t see much difference between being a step-parent and a parent,” and “You’re parenting either way. You want the best for your child. I adore Frankie as if he was my son.”

Previously, Kenny was hitched to fellow actress Caroline Carver, whom he starred with both in Holby City and the poignant 2004 film The Aryan Couple.

With them still not on the best terms, she ends up trying to contact him about his decision to delay his return. His stepson Liam Connor can’t hide his worry after failing to get in contact with him, and he asks his mum if she knows anything.

This annoys Maria further as it’s messing Liam around, but where is Gary and why is he not heading straight home? In the preview clip, Maria is shown and heard leaving Gary a message.

She pleads with him, telling him that it’s fine if he’s decided to extend his visit or has other plans but to make sure he lets her know so they don’t wonder what’s happened. Calling him out, she says: “It’s not on. Call me back when you get this.”

Liam then asks if she’s heard from him but reassures him: “I’m sure he’ll be back soon.” Liam panics saying: “I thought you said he’d be home last night?”
