Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan emotional as she pinpoints start of her ‘weight insecurities’

Loose Women legend Coleen Nolan became emotional on Monday’s edition of ITV’s chat show as she recalled the exact moment her ‘insecurities’ over her weight began

Coleen Nolan became emotional as she recalled the exact moment the ‘insecurities’ with her weight began. The Loose Women star, 60, has been open about her weight journey over the years, but on Monday’s edition of the ITV chat show, she pinpointed the moment everything began for her.

The singer, who shot to fame as the youngest member of The Nolan Sisters, was grateful that she and her siblings did not have to endure the onslaught of social media trolling when they became famous in the late 1970s but remembered being called ‘heavy’ when she was a child, and admitted that it stayed with her ever since.

Appearing alongside anchor Ruth Langsford, as well as fellow panellist Gloria Hunniford and former EastEnders actress Nadia Sawalha, Coleen recalled feeling as if she was the ‘biggest’ in the group when they were enjoying success with hits like I’m In The Mood For Dancing and Gotta Pull Myself Together.

She said: “I look now and go ‘I don’t know what I was worried about…’ but I always felt as if I was the biggest in the group, I was the one with the big boobs and I was quite tall believe it or not. So I always had that, luckily it wasn’t in the social media age so I wasn’t getting trolled or reading all about it. But my insecurities about my weight started actually from a friend of the family.”

The former Dancing On Ice star couldn’t recall exactly who it was, but recalled being ‘very small’ when a friend of the family had picked her up when she was just young, and begged with parents and adults to be mindful of what they say around children.

“I can’t remember who it was, I know it was a guy, and I was only very, very small. He went to pick me up and said ‘Ooh, she’s a heavy one.’

“And it stayed with me my whole life. I have such a phobia of being picked up, I constantly think ‘Oh don’t pick me up because I’m gonna be too heavy. This has been my whole life. As a parent or adults around children, you need to be really careful around the language because it stays.”

The TV favourite managed to lose five stone in the late 2000s and subsequently launched a fitness DVD but later admitted she had ‘lost her personality’ during that tough time as she stuck to a strict regime. In 2021, she claimed that switching to a vegan diet had led to further weight loss. At the time, she told Bella magazine that she felt better than ever but sometimes missed a McDonald’s milkshake.

She said: “I feel much better than I’ve ever felt. I’ve changed my diet and had my teeth done, which I just love… I can’t stop smiling.”

Coleen went on to joke that she was concerned she would “be in a mobility scooter before 60” if she didn’t lose weight as her “back and hips were bad”.

“Getting off the sofa was hard work,” she explained.

It was her daughter Ciara who inspired her to become vegan after showing her documentaries about the health benefits of the lifestyle.

“I’ve probably dropped a couple of stone,” she added. ” The weight loss was just a bonus. Me going vegan was never about losing weight.”

Coleen Nolan ‘no longer sees her granddaughter’ as devastating family feud is revealed

LOOSE Women star Coleen Nolan no longer sees her granddaughter as a result of an ongoing family feud.

It has been reported that the 60-year-old has not had any contact with the little girl for close to seven years.

According to the Mail, a feud between Coleen’s son Shane Jnr and his former partner, Emma Kivell, has stopped the TV personality from being in touch with her first-born granddaughter.

Coleen was a proud grandmother when Shane became a first-time father to little girl, Amelia Rose, in Januray 2016.

She was even present in the hospital room where she first met the tot.

However, in the years that have followed, a devastating family feud has left relations soured.

Sources have told the Mail that difficulties in the strained relationship between parents Shane Jnr and Emma has caused the lack of contact.

Shane Jnr and Emma are believed to not have been in an official relationship when they conceived their daughter.

A friend told the Mail: “At the time Amelia Rose was born, Coleen was on cloud nine. She was so proud her son and she fell in love with the baby, but Shane and Emma aren’t together, and these situations can become quite hard to navigate.”

They added: “Shane promised to support Emma as she set about her journey into motherhood as a single mum along with the support of her own family, but now there is no contact between the little girl and the Nolans.”

Earlier this year, it is reported that Emma and her inner circle were left “disgusted” when Shane Jnr and his new partner, Kimberley Sallis, sent her a script of their ‘pregnancy announcement’ just ten mintues before their Instagram post to confirm the news.

This left Emma unable to tell their daughter that her father was welcoming another sibling before it was posted online due to her being at school.

It has further been reported that one of Emma’s friends even lodged a complaint to ITV about Coleen but they were unable to take any action due to it being “a private matter”.

The Sun has contacted a representative for Coleen Nolan for comment.

Coleen previously discussed Shane becoming a father and the state of his relationship with Emma with the Mirror, telling the publication: “They got together one night and there you go.

“But they’re not compatible in a relationship. Obviously, you wish they were badly in love and could see a future together.

“That’s the best scenario for anyone. But then I thought ‘Oh my God I’m going to be a nanny and was thrilled.’’’

Shane Jnr met Emma when they were both working as Bluecoats at a holiday resort.

Shane is the son of Coleen and her ex-husband, EastEnders actor, Shane Richie.

Following the birth of Amelia Rose, Shane dated Maddie Wadhan for six years before marrying her in June 2022.

His daughter was not present at the ceremony.

The couple later split in December 2023 over accusations that Shane cheated on Maddie.

The Nolans singer spoke of the emotional moment on ITV’s Good Morning Britain

Anne Nolan has opened up about the emotional moment she found out she was cancer free.

The Nolans singer, and sister of Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan, has battled breast cancer twice.

Earlier this year, the family lost Linda to the disease, while Bernie died of the same illness in 2013.

Anne, 74, received the news just days ago that she was cancer-free, having been first diagnosed in 2000 and then 20 years later.

Appearing on Monday’s Good Morning Britain, she shared the emotional journey she’s faced, and the relief at her health update.

“It’s been very traumatic, when I received the letter a few weeks ago, I picked it up, and it said NHS, and I thought, ‘Oh I don’t want to know, I’m not sure if I want to know if it’s bad news.’

“And I put it aside for about ten minutes, and after a while my logical brain kicked in and said, ‘You have to find out, you need to know’.

“I opened it and it was all good news, and I had a bit of a weep at the beginning.

“I feel lucky, blessed, relieved, and then emotional thinking about my sisters having gone through the same thing but not surviving.”

ITV Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan shares ‘best day of her life’ after family milestone

Coleen Nolan has shared some of her most special moments with her fans over the past month and she has admitted that she is ‘beaming with pride’ after a family milestone

Coleen Nolan recently dazzled her fans by posting some stunning snaps while celebrating her son’s nuptials.

The Loose Women star has had a joyous month filled with memorable family occasions, including a wedding and a gender reveal bash as she anticipates becoming a grandmother once more.

The popular ITV personality keeps her followers in the loop through her social media channels and even her YouTube channel, where she divulges details of her life away from the spotlight. Coleen is mum to two lads, Shane and Jake, and her daughter Ciara.

Her firstborn Shane is father to little Amelia, born in 2016, whilst Jake welcomed a son of his own in November 2024.

Donned in an eye-catching green and white ensemble with a matching fascinator and handbag for the wedding day, Coleen expressed her joy: “Yesterday my baby boy Jake married his beautiful wife Georgia. Hand on heart one of the best days of my life, watching my boy marry the love of his life, surrounded by all their family and closest friends.”

She reflected on the special day in a heartfelt video posted on July 7, expressing her overwhelming pride: “There really isn’t a way to express how you feel watching your baby boy walk down the aisle and marry the love of his life, and it was possibly one of the best days of my life, I am beaming with pride”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

In addition to her wedding, Coleen has been showered with support after sharing more family news recently. She announced this month that she is expecting her third grandchild, as her daughter Ciara is pregnant.

She quickly followed this up with more exciting news: her eldest son, Shane Nolan, is also expecting a child with his partner Kim. This will be Shane’s second child, as he is already a proud father to a daughter named Amelia, born in 2016. Jake, Coleen’s other son, is also a father.

Following Ciara’s pregnancy announcement last week, Coleen shared her plans to create a nursery in her home for her grandchildren to visit and stay.

It’s been a particularly special few months for Coleen, who celebrated her own milestone when she turned 60 in March. To commemorate the occasion, her Loose Women co-stars Kaye Adams, Jane Moore, and Judi Love arranged a surprise reunion with her friends and three children in the studio.

The surprise proved too much for Coleen, who was moved to tears and confessed that the reunion was ‘too emotional’. Upon entering the studio, Coleen was blindfolded just moments before being surprised by her sons Jake Roche, Shane Nolan, and daughter Ciara Fensome.

The presenter was overwhelmed with emotion as she expressed her delight at having all her children together in the studio for the first time, tearfully rushing to embrace them and asking, “Oh my God! Is this why I’ve been kept prisoner all day?”

Coleen added: “So far, I’ve had the worst day of my life. They literally locked me in the dressing room. This was a genuine surprise. Gosh it’s too emotional.”

Reflecting on her milestone birthday, Coleen shared: “I feel great about turning 60. I still feel age is just a number and in my head I am 21/22 and in my body I’m 70 but we will ignore that.”

Loose Women’s explosive changes in full from huge cuts to major celebrity change

Loose Women is among ITV’s daytime shows that are facing budget cuts in the coming months as insiders warn the show will be completely stripped back from its usual setup

Charlene White
Loose Women is facing major changes as ITV scramble to recoup costs

Loose Women is facing its biggest shake-up in decades, with dramatic changes that have left fans and cast members reeling as insiders fear the ITV favourite could be axed altogether within the next year.

The iconic lunchtime chat show, known for its bold debates and A-list guests, is expected to cut celebrity interviews completely from January as part of sweeping budget cuts across ITV Daytime. The move comes just months after bosses announced the show would only air for 30 weeks of the year rather than its usual 52, slashing production time nearly in half.

Now, with viewing figures predicted to tumble even further, sources claim Loose Women is “on borrowed time” as ITV pivots its focus to sister shows Lorraine and This Morning.

READ MORE: Good Morning Britain host announces break from ITV show and will be off air for weeks

“It’s a real shame. In January, the programme will become a shell of its former self before it is inevitably cancelled altogether,” one TV insider told Mail Online.

No more celebrity guests

Over its 25 year history, Loose Women has welcomed some of the world’s biggest stars to the panel – from Naomi Campbell and Janet Jackson to Dame Joan Collins and even former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

But sources claim the show will no longer feature famous faces promoting their projects because there won’t be enough staff to manage guests behind the scenes.

Instead, those high-profile bookings will now reportedly be prioritised for Lorraine and This Morning, leaving Loose Women to rely solely on its panel discussions of the day’s news and lifestyle topics.

“Not having guests is a big blow for both the presenters and viewers at home,” an insider revealed.

“The celebrity interviews are often one of the highlights of the show and bring a unique energy you don’t get on other programmes. It feels like a strange decision to cut them altogether.”

Behind the scenes, the panel – including long-serving stars like Nadia Sawalha, Ruth Langsford and Coleen Nolan – are said to be “deeply upset” by the changes.

Studio audience scrapped

The cuts don’t stop there. Loose Women has already axed its live studio audience, a move that has left both the panel and crew heartbroken.

Nadia Sawalha admitted she was “totally devastated” at the loss of the audience and spoke out in support of her close friend and warm-up artist Lee Peart, who lost his job as a result.

“The audience is so important for the show,” Nadia said. “What a lot of people don’t realise is that we’re self-employed. Every contract is a new contract – I could be let go tomorrow or in five years. It’s brutal.”

She added: “Hundreds of people are going to be made redundant out of the blue. A lot of my friends and colleagues on this show and at ITV have been there for decades, and I can’t tell you how upsetting it was to see people walking around numb with shock and fear about what they were going to do.”

Reason behind changes

ITV bosses have blamed “insane inflation” and rising costs for the daytime cuts, which have also seen Lorraine halved to 30 minutes and reduced to term-time broadcasts.

In May, ITV confirmed that production of Good Morning Britain will shift to a dedicated team at ITV News, while Loose Women, Lorraine, and This Morning will merge behind-the-scenes teams to save costs.

But industry insiders warn that these measures will likely spell the end for Loose Women.

An ITV spokesperson said: “The Loose Women team is still working on the show and its content for next year.”

Loose Women panic as panellists fear being axed in favour of younger co-stars

The Loose Women panellists are said to be worried that, as part of the upcoming shake-up at ITV, they are going to be axed from their jobs to make way for younger stars

Loose Women’s panellists are said to be worrying about their future as younger stars “take over.” It’s no secret that there has been panic backstage behind ITV’s midday show, with several of its leading ladies being vocal about the major changes which will come into play next year.

Last month, ITV announced a major overhaul of their daytime schedules, which affects both Loose and Lorraine Kelly’s self-titled morning programme. However, despite being hit with a mass loss of viewers, the magazine show This Morning remains unaffected. While both Lorraine and Loose air throughout the year, they will be axed to just 30 weeks of airtime.

Now, sources have said that older members of the panel, including Coleen Nolan, Kaye Adams, Nadia Sawalha, Denise Welch, Ruth Langsford and Linda Robson, no longer feel safe in their jobs. Kaye and Nadia are two of the original serving panellists from the show’s launch in 1999.

Reports claim that some of the older panellists fear they’ll be axed in favour of younger members of the panel, including GK Barry, Olivia Attwood, former singer Frankie Bridge and Stacey Solomon, who hasn’t been on the show since 2023. The younger panellists have millions of online followers and use social media platforms such as TikTok to their advantage.

Former singer Stacey has a staggering six million followers on her Instagram page alone. “The other girls feel like they can’t compete with Stacey’s stats,” a source told Closer magazine. The outlet goes on to claim that other members of the panel are being encouraged to build their online following on platforms such as TikTok, but this has been branded a “full-time job in itself.”

Bosses on the programme are reportedly telling panellists that any change is not a personal move, but that hasn’t gone down too well. “Nadia has been warning her co-stars it’s not about who you are anymore, but how many followers you have,” the insider added.

It's reported that Stacey Solomon, who hasn't been on the show since 2023, could return

While final decisions are yet to be made, the source went on to comment: “In the long term, it could mean a farewell to the golden oldies. Coleen has been on the show, on and off, since 2000, a quarter of a century. Viewing numbers are down, and financial cuts have been made to save the ship and there’s a few that are expected to walk the plank.”

Nadia, however, has spoken publicly about the cuts. Speaking on her YouTube page, the actress and broadcaster said: “Do you know what, at the moment, all of us on screen are in work and are proud of what we do. But behind the scenes there are people that are really suffering, and what you don’t realise is when you attack the show you attack them, because you never see all the army of people behind the scenes and how hard they work.

So to all my friends and colleagues behind the scenes who have just got a huge shock out of the blue, I’m so sorry. Mark knows how upset I’ve been at home about it. I just can’t bear it. So just be f*****g kind to people.”

TikTok star GK Barry has made a name for herself on the show

She then added: “What people don’t realise at Loose Women is that we’re self-employed, I am self-employed. Every contract is a new contract. I could be let go tomorrow, in five years, you don’t know because we’re not employees.

“So I can’t tell you anything except I am on for my next contract. What has been brutal over the past week, and I am getting tearful about it, is that hundreds of people are going to be made redundant out of the blue. A lot of my friends and colleagues have been there for decades and I cannot tell you how upsetting it was to see people walking around numb with shock and fear about what they are going to do. That has been so awful. It has been worse than whatever trolls have been saying about our show that we feel really protective of.”

Speaking previously of the fears the panellists are having, a Loose source told the Mirror: “We are not planning any radical changes to the panel. All of our Loose Women are hugely valued and we celebrate each and every one and the experience and opinions they bring to the show every day.

“Many of our long standing panellists have appeared on the show for the majority of its 25 year run on screens and those stalwart, Loose legends are at the core of the show’s success and hugely popular with the audience. The show remains a big priority within our daytime slate, having secured a BAFTA nomination, launched a podcast and celebrated a milestone anniversary in the last year alone.”

The Mirror has approached Loose Women, Nadia and Stacey’s spokespeople for comment.

Loose Women panellist hints at co-star rivalry as both covet role on iconic BBC show

Two mainstays of the Loose Women panel could go head-to-head on iconic reality show Strictly Come Dancing as one of the stars joked that she’s been “practising my splits”

Loose Women’s Brenda Edwards has revealed that she and fellow panellist Coleen Nolan are both eager to strut their stuff on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The 56-year-old, who is currently dazzling audiences in the West End production of Chicago alongside former Strictly pro Janette Manrara, confessed she’s been doing all she can to land a spot on the dance competition. “I’ve asked her to put in a good word for me,” Brenda divulged about her conversations with Janette, who now hosts the show’s spin-off.

She added: “Don’t worry, I’m pushing all avenues. If I get on Strictly, I’ll have to start practising my splits. I want to do it!

“It’s between Coleen Nolan and me, because she really wants to go on it also.” In an interview with Bella Magazine, Brenda expressed her ambition to reach the final, something her Loose Women colleagues haven’t achieved yet.

Coleen, 60, has also shared her aspirations to hit the dance floor and vie for the coveted Glitterball trophy, reports Belfast Live. On Loose Women, she campaigned: “Vote me to go in!

“There’d be a lot of sequins involved, let me tell you.” She has also told The Mirror: “I’ve never done Strictly which devastates me.

“Since that show started, I’ve always wanted to do Strictly and so many Loose Women have done it but they never, ever ask me.” Among the Loose Women stars who have taken the plunge on Strictly’s dance floor are Ruth Langsford, Judi Love, and Kaye Adams.

Kaye, 62, was the first celebrity to be voted off the show in 2022, after partnering with Kai Widdrington. In 2017, Ruth, 65, secured ninth place after her stint with Anton Du Beke, while Judi, 44, was the fifth star to be eliminated in 2021, alongside her partner Graziano Di Prima.

The line-up of celebrities for the forthcoming series remains under wraps, but rumoured participants include Tom Parker Bowles, son of Queen Camilla, telly favourite Stacey Solomon, former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, and ex-Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo. What the BBC has confirmed is the roster of professional dancers.

Reigning champion Dianne Buswell will returning to the dance floor are, as will Nadiya Bychkova, Amy Dowden, Katya Jones, Neil Jones and Nikita Kuzmin.

Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Karen Hauer, Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola will also feature once more.

Earlier this year, the BBC also revealed that two new professional dancers will be introduced closer to the show’s return. The 2025 series is expected to kick off in September, though an official date is still to be confirmed.

Inside Loose Women ‘war’ – stars locked in feud as some panellists branded ‘teachers’ pets’

The Loose Women panellists are believed to be enraged over the huge shake-up at ITV, which will see the programme taken off air for almost half of the year

Older members of the Loose Women panel are believed to be vowing to “fight” against the younger stars. It comes amidst a huge shake-up at ITV, which will see a huge overhaul of their daytime scheduling, affecting various shows.

The network announced earlier this week that Loose and Lorraine Kelly’s self-titled show will see its time on air cut to just 30 weeks of the year, rather than airing on a continuous basis. Despite This Morning being hit with a huge dip in viewing figures, the show will not be affected.

Lorraine’s programme has also taken another hit and will air for just half an hour, rather than an hour, as Good Morning Britain has been extended for an extra 30 minutes. But tension at Loose is believed to be at an all-time high, with panellists feeling as though they’re on a probation period.

It’s claimed that stars of the midday programme, including Christine Lampard and Coleen Nolan, hadn’t been informed of the news until it was made public. Reports claim that older women on the panel, who have been there since it launched a quarter of a century ago, believe they’ll be fighting against “PR friendly” younger members of the team, including Frankie Bridge, Olivia Attwood and TikToker GK Barry.

The majority of the panel have been through ITV cuts and the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 and have come out the other side. But the news this week is said to have left them blindsided. A source said: “They feel like often all the negative criticism is levelled at them, the odd ‘out of touch’ comment, whereas with the new panellists such as Liv and Grace, there is a buzz around them because they have that different point of view.”

Sources have said that older member's of the panel have nothing to worry about

They added to The Sun: “Execs have also proudly pro-claimed how the youngsters have brought with them a much-needed new audience — and now all of a sudden the older panellists feel like they are going to have to fight for their places against these shiny teachers’ pets. It’s now five months or so for them to prove their worth and sing for their supper.”

But a source at the network said that the older panellists on Loose Women are “highly valued and celebrated”. They added that while there are reports of the panel “fighting” to get time on the show, the Loose Women podcast and Over 60 and Over 70s specials will “keep everyone busy.”

It’s claimed that regular anchors, including Christine, Kaye Adams, Ruth Langsford and Charlene White, are all safe in their positions but many have been left worried that bosses will meticulously look over their social media posts, episode ratings and audience polling results.

GK Barry and Frankie Bridge have apparently been a hit with bosses

Reports claim that many of the panellists feel they will now have to ‘audition for their role’ and tensions will rise as they continue to demonstrate how bold and feisty they can all be. Over the years, viewers have seen clashes between each of the panellists, with former star Carol McGiffin allegedly clashing with Andrea McLean after she was left off the invite list for her wedding.

Carol took to her Best Magazine column to highlight this, writing, “I’m ecstatic for them both, even though I wasn’t invited to the wedding. Andrea’s managed to squeeze in two weddings in less time than I’ve been engaged to Mark, which is a bit embarrassing, to say the least.”

Speaking in 2014, Mylene Klass, who often appears on the panel, hit out following a clash with broadcaster and journalist, Janet Street-Porter. On the show, Janet lost her temper with the star, saying,”I’m happiest when I’m not sat next to you Myleene!”

Janet has never shied away from sharing her thoughts on the panellists

Following this, the singer took to social media to vent: “I love Loose Women. It’s nice to be able to articulate and get things out there. But I feel it was getting a bit misogynistic, a bit post-menopausal or pre-menopausal and ranty. That’s not how women should be represented so it’s nice they’ve refreshed the panel and we can talk about politics, fashion designers and what else is going on in the week.

“It’s a show for women but I don’t feel like it empowered me. People think you’re best friends with everybody on Loose Women. You’re absolutely not. You have to just tolerate [some people] because you’ve got to get the job done.”

Elsewhere, speaking out last year, McGiffin fumed: “I don’t regret leaving – I don’t fit in there any more. Someone, somewhere, will be offended by absolutely everything. I’d rather not be on a show that panders to that. It’s boring – and I won’t be told what I can or can’t say.”

Despite her ongoing clash with the show, she has remained close to Denise Welch, Kaye, Jane Moore and Nadia Sawalha. But, Carol, who never refrains from speaking her mind, told Women’s Own: “Some, I have nothing in common with. As I said to them, ‘You’re not friends, you’re just people I work with, who I really like.’ Which horrified them.”

The Mirror approached Loose Women for comment.
