A MAJOR European airport is closing for an entire month with the last flights taking off today.
Naples Capodichino Airport is one of the busiest airports in Italy behind Milan and Rome.
Not only that, but lots of low-cost airlines like Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air operate from the airport.
Yet from tomorrow (November 1), all flights will be suspended until next month.
This is due to a huge €30million (£25.1million) runway refurbishment, as part of a larger €250million (£209.2million).
Currently, around 13million passengers use the airport, with plans for this to increase to 17.3million by 2035.
The airport states on the website: “Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for extensive and planned runway upgrades, in compliance with stringent industry regulations and in line with GESAC’s priority commitment to ensuring the highest safety standards.”
The decision to close in November was due to this being the quietest month for the airport.
EasyJet currently operates flights to Naples from London Gatwick, while Ryanair has flights from Manchester, London Stansted and Edinburgh.
Passengers heading to Naples will instead fly to Salerno-Pontecagnano Airport.
A shuttle bus will then operate from the airport instead, costing €12 (£10).
Otherwise the train from Salerno to Naples Central is a cheaper option for £5 each way.
Naples Airport will reopen by November 30.
