The TV star said he and his family are ‘desperate’ to get back to their farm after a fire ripped through their home
Kelvin Fletcher said he could “see light at the end of a tunnel” as he and his family got one step closer to returning to their farm following a fire.
The former Emmerdale actor, his wife Liz and their four young children have been living in temporary accommodation after a blaze ripped through the farmhouse on their Peak District property while they were away.
But Kelvin – who later admitted that the fire was “the stuff of nightmares” – has now shared that the family are looking at a way to get back onto the farm.
In Sunday’s instalment (December 7) of their ITV series Fletchers’ Family Farm, he and Liz looked into the possibility of having a lodge erected on the grounds so they could be on site again while their home is repaired.
“Renovations to the farmhouse are still yet to start,” he said. “But we’re desperate to get back on the farm. So Liz and I are now on a mission to find a solution. Think about the farm every minute of every day. It’s just weird not being there. There’s a worry, there’s a… It just doesn’t feel the same.”
“It was a funny time for everyone really,” said Liz. “We just have to go through it as it happens, I guess.”
She added: “We’re just so grateful that we get to have temporary accommodation and the plan is to rebuild the house, be back in, and it’ll just be a story to tell.”
Kelvin explained: “Liz and I want to see if there’s a way we can create a temporary home on the farm. That’ll work for us as a family until the farmhouse renovation is complete.”
The pair end up meeting a man who builds lodges and cabins, to see if they could erect a temporary lodge on the farm while renovations at their house are under way.
After discussing the possibilities and working out a plan, Kelvin said “for me, the lodge can’t come soon enough”.
“After months of uncertainty, it’s exciting to be making plans to get the family back on the farm,” he said.
“Definitely feels like there’s light at the end of the tunnel, and the countdown to being back on the farm can begin,” added the TV star.
Fletchers’ Family Farm airs on ITV.
