Ryan Moloney, Graeme Swann and Toby Olubi all departed from Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins during Sunday’s emotional episode on Channel 4
Three celebrities have pulled out of Celebrity SAS : Who Dares Wins, including former Neighbours actor Ryan Moloney, ex-England cricketer Graeme Swann, and Gladiator Toby Olubi.
During Sunday night’s episode, 46 year old Moloney, best known for portraying Jarrod Rebecchi in the Aussie soap, confided in his fellow contestants that he was “mentally spiralling” and couldn’t recall if he’d taken his ADHD medication. This prompted the directing staff to bring in the camp’s psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist warned: “Today is going to be chaotic, if he was to go further, it would ruin him.” Moloney was subsequently summoned for a discussion with instructor Jason “Foxy” Fox, who enquired: “Where are you at then?”.
The Australian actor responded: “I’d love to be available for all of the challenge, I’d love to be here, but yeah, I am going to withdraw.”
Fox replied: “I think it’s the right move, because ultimately, this is just a course you’ve got the rest of your life to embrace.. But please hold your head high, you’ve been awesome.” Moloney then returned to camp as the seventh person to exit the gruelling course, bidding farewell to his campmates with “adieu”.
In a separate interview, Moloney reflected: “The things that I’ll take away for the rest of my life are that I did something that I was scared of doing, and I did it anyway, and now I can actually kind of go, this is me, I get this, and it’s fine.”
Later in the programme, former England cricket star Swann was medically withdrawn by directing staff due to an arm injury. Swann, 46, admitted: “I’ve played sport for a living so I accept the risks involved physically.”
After becoming the eighth recruit to exit the course, he confided in the directing staff: “It’s been amazing, it’s been emotional, f*** me, you can break people can’t you.”
The episode kicked off with a task that required recruits to navigate through a village under fire, collecting equipment and aiming for an extraction point. However, their vehicles stalled due to explosives midway, forcing them to push them to the end of the course.
Post-task, Australian ex-Olympic swimmer Mack Horton was called in for questioning about the fallout from his refusal to share a podium with Chinese swimmer Sun Yang, whom he accused of doping, back in 2019.
Horton shared with the directing staff: “Things kept happening from that, family being followed, immediately after I spoke to my dad on the phone, his business had been hacked, the house had been broken into, it’s like the only time he’s ever raised his voice, ever at me.
“The gist was you need to think about how your decisions impact other people. We had like shards of glass in the backyard pool, so that if you put your hand into the filter to clean it out, you cut your hand up, had a rice cooker or something explode in the bin of an apartment..
“It’s intense, I’ve been told not to go to China, and it still happens, three weeks ago, I went to the market with my family, and we just get followed and have photos taken of us.”
A second challenge required participants to rescue a hostage and retrieve a laptop within a strict time limit, which resulted in British sprinter and bobsledder Toby Olubi being pulled out by the directing staff at the end of the task. As the ninth participant to leave camp, the 38 year old Olubi remarked: “It’s been a pleasure guys.”
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins returns to Channel 4 on Monday at 9pm.
