Strictly Come Dancing tonight live: Shaun Wright-Phillips emotional as dad Ian watches on

Strictly: Delta Goodrem vows to fight on through pain

Strictly Come Dancing week five is in full swing and Shaun Wright-Phillips held back tears as his footballing icon dad, Ian, sat on the front row watching on in awe

Strictly Come Dancing is back tonight, and emotions are at an all-time high. Footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips was seen choking up after host Emma Willis pointed out his dad, Arsenal legend Ian Wright, was proudly watching on the front row.

Elsewhere, Delta Goodrem has made a return. The Aussie singer, 41, is raring to go after a nasty injury forced her to take a break last week. “I was not going to go down without a fight,” she vowed in the training room earlier in the week. “I had to process all the emotions pretty quickly. I definitely got a bit rocked and a bit shocked, but I think [it helped] just working through and going ‘I’m going to be there Monday.’ Kai’s been so amazing.”

Just hours before her return, Delta shared an emotional video of herself breaking down in tears as she struggled through the pain. However, thankfully, she’s managed to come out the other side and is ready to tackle her performance tonight. For the first time in (what seems like) a while, there’s no theme this week, so the couples will need to solely rely on their dancing skills and performances rather than any prop gimmicks.

Last week saw the elimination of Dame Sarah Storey and partner Julian Caillon after they went up against Bethany Antonia and Nancy Xu after a unanimous decision from the judges. Afterwards, Bethany admitted she was “devastated” that she had landed in the dance-off, so she’ll be hoping to avoid it tonight.

This week, fans have been left far from impressed by the judging panel’s feedback. Many believe that the feedback to contestants has been “harsher” than in previous weeks.

Delta Goodrem sobs over injury

Aussie singer Delta Goodrem has shared the emotional moment she broke down following a nasty injury that nearly ended her Strictly journey.

Delta and pro partner Kai Widdrington will be returning to the dancefloor tonight after they were forced to pull out of last week’s show while she recovered.

Taking to Instagram, Delts posted a selection of videos of her from the last two weeks as she struggled with the prospect of not being able to dance again.

She wrote on Instagram: “I filmed little moments over the past two weeks to remind myself that even on the frustrating days, there would be progress. I was gutted when the injury happened as I’ve been truly loving this experience so much. It’s hard to be patient when you want to be full force again but I’ve been listening, taking things carefully and learning to appreciate the small steps! Heading into show day feeling grateful to be able to take a few more tonight with all the incredible help from everyone around me xx

“To all my warriors out there in your own battles i see you and am with you – we are fighters! #Teamdeltakai will see you tonight.”

A triumphant return!

Delta Goodrem has made her much-anticipated comeback to the ballroom alongside pro partner Kai Widdrington  following her rib injury, telling Emma Willis: “I’m just so grateful to be here!”

Dani’s tears

In a VT, Love Island winner Dani Dyer became very emotional in rehearsals with Nikita Kuzmin as she reflected on being in the bottom two last week.

Nikita told her: “You are your biggest critic by a mile,” and she burst into tears. Her professional partner was on hand to comfort her and said: “You’re crying because you’re passionate.”

She added, through tears: “I just wanna do better.”

Praise indeed

Graeme Hall and Lauren Oakley were left visibly shocked when Anton Du Beke praised their Tango.
He said: “That was the best ballroom dance we’ve seen in the whole series so far. It had all the elements of old-school ballroom dancing.”

‘We love you’

When Lawrence received his relatively low score, his co-stars rallied round him for a group hug, with Johannes saying: “It’s all good, we love you. A job well done.”

Motsi’s harsh words for Lawrence

Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb and Jowita Przystał performed a Jive set to  Rockafeller Skank but it did not go down too well with Motsi – and she seemed to predict he would be going home.

She said: “It’s live, people get voted off. It’s very sad!” She added: “This Jive wasn’t your best dance. If I think about it, the others felt much better. Go back to the dance class and practice a bit harder.”

Reacting to her striking comments, one fan wrote on X: “”Not motsi saying get back to the dance room and practice!”
