SMART TVs with all their apps are a streaming dream, but they can choke your telly with too much data over time.
All these apps collect cached data – just like your PC or laptop.
Cache is temporary storage data, like your login details, profiles, preferences, browsing history or recently watched shows.
All this stored information is kept to make apps load faster – so it is helpful in the day-to-day.
But over time it can make your TV sluggish, cause apps to crash, make shows buffer and even stop new content from loading properly.
The internal storage on your TV is limited, after all.
Fortunately, clearing your cache can fix this instantly – and the button only takes seconds to find.
Clearing this data can also solve more specific problems, like login errors or glitches inside an app.
The process of wiping cache is slightly different depending on what brand of TV you own.
But they largely follow the same lines.
Head to your TV’s Settings – this should be the app sporting the cog icon.
Then navigate to the Apps section.
Here, you should find a list of all your downloaded platforms, like Netflix and Disney+.
Selecting an individual app can often reveal options to Clear Cache, which will remove temporary files.
There may also be the option to Clear Data, which will wipe all app information and require you to log in again.
You should always start with clearing the cache, and later resort to clearing data if the problem persists.
In some cases, like with a Roku TV, simply restarting your TV can clear its cache.
Doing so can speed up navigation on your telly, and free up valuable storage space.
