Users also suffered loading issues on X Pro, formerly TweetDeck, with a message that said: “Waiting for posts.”

Over 47,000 US users faced access issues with X and X Pro, according to Downdetector data.

Another 7,000 reported problems in the UK.

The majority of users reported issues with the app, while some were struggling to access the website.

The global outage appeared to start shortly after 5am UK time – with timelines returning shortly before 7am.

It’s not clear what caused the issue.

It comes after Elon Musk – the CEO of X – announced a major change to X’s algorithm.

The new change is an attempt to show users new accounts that share similar interests with them, especially users whose posts are not often seen.

Musk’s new algorithm adjustment fits with his plan to make X a creator platform, as smaller creators get the opportunity to make more of an impact.

He bought Twitter for $44billion last October and the company has lost about $25billion in value since its acquisition, according to a report from Fortune.

In the last year, the tech billionaire has made many controversial decisions that have caused advertisers to jump ship.

During his short time with the company, he laid off 80 per cent of its staff and got rid of the name Twitter.

He also started charging users for access to key features on the social media platform.

Musk also has plans for users to manage their financial worlds on X as he works toward developing a super app.
