A new study has named the ‘poshest’ city in Europe – and it’s a place you definitely don’t want to miss if you like the finer things in life
If you’re partial to a touch of luxury, there’s one destination that should be on your radar. Europe is home to many countries that appreciate the finer things in life, from the fashion-forward city of Milan to the wealth of Luxembourg.
However, according to fresh research from PrivateUpgrades, the ‘poshest’ spot of all is none other than Geneva in Switzerland. To determine the most luxurious city, the study analysed over 100 European cities, comparing their concentration of five-star hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants and golf courses per capita.
Each city was awarded a score out of 100, with Geneva bagging an impressive 98.3 on the posh scale.
The city boasts the highest number of golf courses per capita, at 7.36, and a density of 57 Michelin Guide restaurants and 18 five-star hotels per 100 square kilometres of the city area.
Often referred to as the ‘private banking capital of Switzerland’, Geneva is nestled on the country’s southern side, bordering France.
It’s the headquarters of the Red Cross, the World Health Organisation and the World Trade Organisation, reports the Express.
There’s no shortage of activities in this swanky city – even if you’re not rolling in dough. Geneva is conveniently close to the Swiss Alps and surrounded by stunning lakes and rivers ripe for exploration.
One must-see attraction in the city is the Old Town. With its labyrinthine streets, this walkable historical gem is ideal for a day of discovery.
While Geneva may be a costly place to visit, one way to cut costs is through transportation.
The city is compact and easily navigable on foot, so there’s no need to splash out on taxis.
