The Netflix true crime series made a recent return with new cases
Everything you need to know about Netflix’s Missing: Dead or Alive season 2
- Netflix has dropped season two of its true crime documentary series Missing: Dead or Alive, with audiences quickly bingeing the four new episodes. The factual series follows the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Missing Persons Unit in Columbia, South Carolina, as they desperately try to find people who have disappeared and reunite them with loved ones.
- The first season aired back in 2023, but the second outing seems to have proved popular with audiences, propelling the series into the top 10 most-watched shows in the world on Netflix. While season one focused on several different cases, the follow-up concentrates mainly on two cases: Morgan Duncan, who vanishes without a trace from his apartment and Shandon Floyd, who is last seen getting into a car with a stranger.
- There is also a brief case right at the start of season two, where a panicked mother begs the police to try and find her three-year-old, who has vanished into expansive woodlands near where they live. The heart-stopping case sets the scene for Missing: Dead or Alive season two.
- Missing: Dead or Alive is led by seasoned police officer Sergeant Vicki Rains, who investigates cases alongside her team of highly-trained officers. Rains, who has over two decades of law enforcement experience under her belt, also led the charge on season one as she tried to find missing people.
- Despite the show’s popularity, some have been questioning if the Netflix true crime series is staged, given the impressive visuals and use of voice-over that gives it the look and feel of prestige crime drama rather than a documentary. However, the cases are very much real, with people getting sentenced in some instances and facing jail time.
- Rains previously said that Netflix wanted to simply capture her team’s work and didn’t want them to change how they did their job and investigate cases. The show has yet to get the green light on season three, however, true crime fans can get stuck into the first two seasons, which are streaming on Netflix at the moment for viewers to enjoy.
