Daniel Granger, a celebrity hairdresser, shared a clip on TikTok of the journey the woman took after appearing on the TV show Body Fixers.
“If that’s a wig, that’s a really good wig,” one person could be heard in the background.
But the woman, who took her brunette mane out of a ponytail, explained that it wasn’t a wig but in fact her natural hair that had completely matted over.
Turning around, she then showed the back of her hair, which had a section that appeared to look like it was in a small ponytail, but in fact was simply stuck in that position.
“And it’s rock solid now,” she told them.
Daniel then said: “It’s not even dreaded, it’s gone beyond dread.”
His pal, make-up artist Alex Henry, then quipped: “I thought it was up in a ponytail.”
The woman then explained that she was in bed “for so long” and she couldn’t brush her hair as she wasn’t able to lift her arms “that high” at the time.
“It was just wash, bun, bed,” she added.
When asked how she had tried to fix it herself, she shared: “We tried, obviously, the standard leave your conditioner in overnight and hope for the best with it with a brush. That did not work.
“Then, my best friend is actually a hairdresser. She suggested lube. So, we fully whacked a bottle of strawberry lube on my head… And that did not work either.”
She added that the only time they were able to free any of her matted hair was by “picking strand by strand”.
Daniel then shared that he once picked a strand out of matted her and it took him a whopping eight hours.
“Unpicking it isn’t an option,” Daniel warned the woman. “Worst case scenario, I’m going to have to shave that.”
The woman became a little emotional over the news, explaining that it would be “hard” for her to go through that.
Promising to “do my best”, Daniel then got to work on her hair.
“In all my years of hairdressing, I’ve never seen a case like Jasmine’s,” Daniel told the camera. “I really had to get this right. Especially so her little girl can play with her hair again.”
Luckily, he didn’t have to shave Jasmine’s entire hair off and instead opted to give her a short pixie-style haircut.
Daniel said: “This morning, when you came in you had the thickest matt I’ve ever seen. I’m going to be honest with you, when I saw it I didn’t know if I could fix it.
“But I love a challenge. Jasmine, I’ve had to cut out that matted lump of hair off your head. Prising apart your hair strand by strand.
“You’ve also had a deep cleanse to remove seven months worth of scalp. And I’ve done all I can to give you a new look, which I’m hoping you’re going to love…”
Jasmine was then shocked to see her reflection in the mirror as she asked: “Is that even me? Wow. I love it. I’m amazed. I can’t believe you managed to save so much of it. It’s so cool.
“I can’t believe I love it. I’m so happy that I love it, but I love it.”
People were left divided in the comments section as many thought she looked a lot older thanks to her new ‘do.
“She looks 20 years older,” one person said.
“Aged her by 30 years,” another said, while a third chimed: “they made her look 30 years older”.
But others thought Daniel did a great job and the new hairstyle looked “cute” on her.
“Do people not understand hair grows, I think she looked amazing and looked so happy with the results,” [sic] one person argued.
A second agreed as they shared: “She looks great, the cut really really suits her. Best thing was cutting the matt out as you cut out a reminder of a difficult time in her life.” [sic]
A third added: “Wowza what a transformation. Stunning,” followed by a heart emoji.
