Occasional Digest - a story for you

Morning, Arsenal fans

Mikel Arteta will have his big Gunns back in midfield as Arsenal bid to go eight points clear in the Prem this weekend.

Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey are expected to replace Jorginho and Fabio Vieira at home to managerless Crystal Palace on Sunday.

But the most exciting change following Thursday’s Europa League shootout woe against Sporting Lisbon could be in attack.

Bukayo Saka seems certain to return on the wing – while fit-again main striker Gabriel Jesus is eyeing his first Prem start of the year.

But Europa League casualty William Saliba is a slight doubt.

Fellow defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, who likewise hobbled off early against Sporting, left the Emirates on crutches and faces longer out.

Arteta said: “With Tomi, it’s not looking good. He was in quite a lot of pain.”

The Spanish manager is demanding a huge improvement from Thursday against 12th-placed Palace, who sacked Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira yesterday following a 12-game winless run.

Second-placed City play in the FA Cup instead, at home to Burnley today.

Finally, the Gunners have renewed the contract of midfielder Marcelo Flores.

The three-cap Mexico star is on loan at Spanish second-tier club Real Oviedo.
