My name is Simon Smale and I’m still here to bring you all the action from Ahmedabad as Australia bats to save the Test – while India pushes for victory.
We have had a Test go to five days and, despite there being plenty of justifiable chat about how placid the pitch has been and a draw being inevitable – but I don’t think the draw part of that conversation is necessarily true.
Yes, the pitch has been bland and yes, a draw is probably still the most likely result, BUT this is not going to be an easy day of batting today.
With run scoring so tough Australia, if they bat well, will only chase down India’s lead by lunch. After that, they can push on and keep batting until a result is not possible and the captains shake hands.
However, if India can get a couple of wickets and the pressure starts to pile on, then maybe panic could set in and India will be in with a real chance of victory.
This match has been very different to the previous three in terms of the challenge it has presented, but a test of perseverance, concentration and stamina is no less worthy than one where the ball is turning square.
