Luckily, TikTok user Amy E Peters has discovered a way to get around the potential pitfalls of having artificial greenery in the house.

“Get a bigger pot,” she first told viewers as she could be seen in the background placing one, which she got from Pottery Barn, into the corner of a cream-coloured room.

She then took an old white bucket and placed this upside down into the vase before inserting a fake olive tree, from Décors Véronneau, into the gap. While she went for a bucket, Amy also suggested using a large vase to put into the pot.

“Fill gaps with bubble wrap, newspaper, etc. I also like to add an old towel to prevent the plant from shifting,” she continued to write while demonstrating the steps to take in the clip.

She went on: “Cut cardboard into a circle then cover the top with preserved moss, soil or rocks”.

Using moss herself, she filled the top section in a bid to create the illusion of a full pot.

Amy ended the tutorial by bending some of the branches of her olive tree to give it a more natural feel.

Many adored the hack as they gushed over how much they “love it” and want to recreate it themselves.

“Ohhh this is so handy!” one person wrote as another shared: “Makes such a difference!”

While a third gave an alternative suggestion to using moss as they said: “just put real soil in there. It’s so simple! Ppl are shocked when I tell them that’s what I do (also u should only have like 1-2 fake plants tops)”. [sic]

But others were a little more critical over the fake plant as one person said: “Until someone asks if it’s real. Because they always ask”.

Another argued: “Just buy a real plant. Look and smell much better, don’t end up in landfill. There’s plenty of low maintenance ones.” [sic]

A third chimed: “Why not just use real plants and learn how to take care of them?”
