Key Event

The secret whereabouts of a shipwreck are set to be revealed more than 120 years after it sank to the bottom of Lake Huron.

The Ironton, a 58-metre cargo vessel which collided with another ship in 1894, has long eluded shipwreck hunters.

Officials now say a team of underwater archaeologists, historians and technicians discovered the wreckage in 2019 but have kept the find secret to keep people away.

They now plan to announce the location and attach a buoy to it, so divers can head down to explore.
