Queensland police have launched a murder investigation after a 62-year-old man was found dead in his backyard at a home on the Gold Coast.

His body was found at a property at Ashmore on the Gold Coast.

Officers responded to a welfare check at a home at Lillian Crescent shortly before 9am on Sunday.

They found the man’s body in the backyard.

The property was declared a crime scene and specialist officers conducted examinations.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith said “the man had significant injuries, he was already deceased”.

Police took a person of interest into custody on Sunday afternoon, after finding a 35-year-old man in unusual circumstances.

“He was quite distinctive when he was located around lunchtime today as he wasn’t wearing any pants,” Inspector Smith said.
