New first look images show Sinéad playing DCI Jessica ‘Jessie’ James hard at work alongside returning character DS Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan played by actor Sanjeev Bhasker.
In the new series,fans will see Jessie navigate her way through her first day at work.
Amidst starting the new role, Jessie’s first day will be clouded by an unforeseen and devastating introduction to her family life.
How will Jessie fare stepping up to the role dominated by Nicola Walker’s character Cassie Stuart.
Cassie appeared as the leading character during the first four seasons and had to tackle a number of problems and cases during his tenure.
When the fifth series begins, fans can expect to see Jessie’s first case exploring a discovery of human remains.
The remains are discovered in a newly-renovated property in Hammersmith, London and leaves them questioning as to whether its a murder dating back to the 1930s or if it is much more recent.
Whilst many details are still being shrouded in secrecy, a number of guest stars have been revealed including Rhys Yates of Silent Witness, Martina Laird (The Bay), Game of Thrones’ Ian McElhinney, Max Rinehart (Jekyll and Hyde), and Hayley Mills (Pollyanna).
Ahead of joining the show, actress Sinéad said: “I have long been an admirer of Chris Lang’s work so I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Unforgotten team.
“I’m very much looking forward to working with the extraordinary cast led by the brilliant and incredibly lovely Sanjeev Bhaskar. And I’m hoping that if I play my cards right I might even get to take a peek in Sunny’s backpack!”
