Occasional Digest - a story for you

CCTV footage captured the moment a mystery man dropped a woman who had been shot in the torso at the ambulance bay of a south-west Sydney hospital.

The woman, 37, arrived at Bankstown Hospital in a white Mercedes about 1pm on January 12, driven there by an unknown man who later abandoned the car.

Almost a month later, police say the woman remains in hospital with significant injuries including a suspected severed spine and damage to internal organs.

Inquiries led detectives to a home in nearby Condell Park where it is believed the woman was shot.

Strike Force Chelston was formed to investigate and today police have released a video as part of an appeal to find the man.

The footage shows a man wearing a black hooded jumper, shorts and training tights run out from the driver’s seat and calling to paramedics standing outside the emergency department.

He opens the front passenger door and tends to the woman before paramedics take over.

After pacing around the car, the man can be seen running down the street.

Strike force detectives have since attended a home on Simmat Avenue, Condell Park, where several bullet holes and casings were found.

Police have asked for anyone with information to come forward.

The man detectives are seeking is described as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, about 175cm tall with a medium build and dark beard.
