The west Londoners have been hot on the heels of the Argentina midfielder this month, much to the annoyance of club Benfica.
Chelsea’s early approaches were all rebuffed, although they have once again tested Benfica’s resolve to retain his services with a fresh £115million bid.
Blues fans are desperate for the deal to go through, so much so that they have been scanning flight logs of the plane the club used to bring loan signing Joao Felix to England.
And they’ve discovered the plane has a return trip planned from Farnborough to Lisbon for the entirety of deadline day.
The revelation set Chelsea fans’ chins wagging, with one saying: “Enzo Fernandez is done.
“He’s on a flight to Farnborough Airport. Practically a Chelsea player as of now
Another said: “Inshaallah Enzo Fernandez is on a plane to London after Chelsea and Benfica reach an agreement before the end of deadline day.”
And another said: “Chelsea plane won’t leave Lisbon without onboarding Enzo Fernandez, as the Chelsea player.”
One remarked: “Let’s all hope Enzo Fernandez will board the plane.”

Another chimed in: “Chelsea sending a plane for Enzo Fernandez.”
Chelsea’s pursuit of Fernandez began after he caught their eye in Argentina’s successful World Cup campaign.
But their tactics to try to entice him to Stamford Bridge have been slammed by Benfica chief Roger Schmidt.
The 55-year-old said: “We don’t want to sell Enzo. There is a club who wants our player.
“They know we don’t want to sell the player [and] they tried to get the player on their side and they know that they can only get this player when they pay the [release] clause.
“So it’s a very clear situation for what the club is doing who want to buy Enzo.
“It’s disrespectful against all of us, against Benfica.
“And I cannot accept what they are doing.
“So to make the player crazy and then to pretend that they can pay the clause and later they want to negotiate is.
“I think, not what I understand about what a good relationship between clubs who maybe want to discuss about a player.
“That’s what I can say about the whole topic with Enzo and I will not answer further questions.”
