Occasional Digest - a story for you

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M so scared my sister is going to die because her moron boyfriend tells her not to take her medication.

She’s 20 and she has severe epilepsy. Her boyfriend is a piece of work.

I’m her sister and I’m 25. She’s told me in confidence he’s pinned her down and raped her.

He thinks the Government is out to control us so he won’t let her have her Covid jabs and told her not to take her epilepsy drugs too, which she did.

She had a massive fit last week and he didn’t know what to do – he kept shaking her and slapping her until a nurse helped out in the shop where they were.

He’s 29 and his last girlfriend dumped him when he hit her, but my sister doesn’t seem to realise how dangerous he is.

Every problem gets a personal reply from one of our trained counsellors.

DEIDRE SAYS:  His behaviour is very worrying but she’s an adult, and as difficult as it is to accept, it is up to her to decide who she dates.

If he’s raped her she will need support.

Encourage her to talk things through with Rape Crisis (rapecrisis.org.uk, 0808 802 9999).

If he is withholding her medication and something happens, he may end up with blood on his hands.

Try to keep talking to her so she can come to you when she is ready.

Urge her to get an opinion from a counsellor at The National Domestic Abuse Helpline (nationaldahelpline.org.uk, 0808 2000 247).
