Sian Glenica Judith Joyce Calyun appeared in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with assaulting a public officer and obstructing public officers.

The court heard the woman, who is three months pregnant, had been with family at the public basketball courts along Marine Terrace when she allegedly engaged in a physical fight with them.

The prosecutor alleged she kicked an attending police officer in the face while he arrested her partner, shattering his glasses and leaving him with a 3-centimetre gash to his right eyebrow.

Ms Calyun’s lawyer said the accused had been enjoying a day with family at the public basketball courts when trouble had come to her, as opposed to her seeking it out.

Magistrate Angus Hockton said the charges were serious and kicking somebody in the face had the potential to cause serious injury.

He acknowledged the accused had good ties to the community and a four-year old child.

Magistrate Hockton granted Ms Calyun bail and she will appear in court again next month.
