Twelve members of an armed group were killed on Sunday, Dec. 19, during a firefight with security forces in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State in Northeast Nigeria, according to the police.
The police spokesperson in the state, Mohammed Wakil, was quoted to have said that at about 11:00 p.m., a joint operation team engaged “suspected bandits and kidnappers” in Mansur, Digare, Gwana, and Dajin Madam in Alkaleri forest.
He added that the raid led to the death of the 12 individuals and dislodging of the camp. “Consequently, weapons and operational motorcycles were recovered during the operation.”
The Local Government Area was recently in the news due to the ongoing oil exploration activities in the Kolmani river field located in the Upper Benue Trough between the northeastern states of Bauchi and Gombe.

“These attacks signal the need to secure the area and address vulnerabilities, especially due to the remote nature of the sites and access from forest areas in the region,” the report stated
