Occasional Digest - a story for you

IF YOUR outdoor space looks tired, it’s time for a refresh. The best part? You can do it yourself.

With plenty of new season inspiration, B&Q makes it easy to revive your garden with affordable hacks.

Give tired chairs and tables a new lease of life with a quick coat of paint

1. Update furniture

Choose something affordable that has a big impact – like the Thilia chaise corner set (pictured top) – or upcycle old garden furniture with fresh paint and bold cushions.

Just grab a stiff brush, hand sander, wood protector and paintbrush to give benches, chairs and tables a new lease of life.

2. Go high with plants

Look up! Planters are not just for patios. Instead, cheer up bare exterior walls with a DIY vertical garden by fixing a trellis – or even an old ladder – and growing climbing plants, or try hanging baskets of bright perennials.

Go for sun-loving clematis or petunias for wall-to-wall colour, or ferns and hellebores for shadier spots.

3. Let there be light

Turn a small, dull space into a cosy retreat with solar-powered garden lights that cost nothing to run.

Hang curtain lights on a fence, wrap string lights around trees or a parasol, or place stake lights in pots and flower beds.

4. Don’t forget the fence

Instead of splashing out on new fences, get creative with what you have.

With simple tools and budget-friendly materials, transform tired panels into a statement piece.

Treat them as a blank canvas – drench them in soft pastels for a fresh look or go bold with ombre or geometric patterns.

5. Tread a new path

Revamp your garden on a budget with stone, gravel or chippings – a stylish, affordable alternative to decking or patio slabs.

Swap dull browns and greys for B&Q’s decorative chippings in blush or blue, adding interest to your space.

Now all that’s left is to fire up the barbecue, invite the gang over and enjoy your mini makeover.
