Occasional Digest - a story for you

Adolescence’s Owen Cooper is the biggest breakout star of the year – but what does he have coming up next?

Adolescence on Netflix features a stunning cast led by Stephen Graham and Ashley Walters, but newcomer Owen Cooper is arguably the four-part drama’s biggest stand-out.

The 15-year-old actor portrays Jamie Cooper in the harrowing series, a young teen who is arrested and accused of the murder of his female classmate.

Millions of viewers have already tuned into the hard-hitting series, which unfolds across four single takes that delve into the aftermath of the murder that leaves Jamie’s family shell-shocked.

Critics have been raving about Cooper’s stellar first TV performance, and he’s already well on his way to becoming a major star.

In fact, he’s already landed a huge new big screen role with one of the biggest stars working in Hollywood right now.

So, when will fans next see Owen Cooper?

The teen is set to star alongside Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the upcoming adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, directed by Saltburn filmmaker Emerald Fennell.

He’s set to play young Heathcliff, with Elordi stepping into the role of the older version of his character.

Actress Charlotte Mellington will portray the younger version of Robbie’s character, Catherine.

The cast also includes Shazad Latif, Hong Chau and Alison Oliver and the film is set to be released on February 13, 2026.

For the time being, Cooper is keeping details about the project to himself, though he let some insights slip during a recent chat with i-D.

He called Elordi “such a nice guy”, adding “my family can say the same as well”.

Cooper also teased “It’s fun. I like it”, though any other titbits will have to wait until the film’s trailer is released.

The Warrington-born star currently has no other projects listed, though after the success of Adolescence it won’t be a surprise if offers start coming thick and fast.

However, the young actor also admitted he never saw performing as a viable career until now.

“I just never really wanted to be an actor,” he revealed. “It wasn’t really in my DNA.”

This quickly changed when he saw a young Tom Holland in the 2012 disaster film The Impossible and he now has aspirations to follow in the fellow Brit’s footsteps.

“I want to play Spider-Man,” he revealed. Could he be donning the red and blue spandex in a future Marvel reboot? Wait and see…

Adolescence is available to stream on Netflix.
