With Adolescence climbing the Netflix charts, the bookmakers have tipped drama star and creator Stephen Graham to take part in Strictly Come Dancing’s upcoming series
Adolescence star Stephen Graham has been backed by the bookies to take part in Strictly Come Dancing’s 2025 series. The 51-year-old received glowing reviews this week for his performance in Netflix’s four-part drama Adolescence, which follows the family of a boy as he’s arrested for killing his classmate.
Now, bookmaker Coral has tipped Stephen to sign up for BBC One competition Strictly Come Dancing, giving odds of 4-5 that he will be a contestant on the show this year. Meanwhile, the odds of Stephen lifting the coveted Glitterball Trophy are at 8-1.
“Stephen Graham is rightly getting a lot of plaudits for his work on Adolescence, and following the success of the Netflix series, we now make him odds-on to be a contestant on Strictly in 2025,” said Coral’s John Hill.
In Netflix’s Adolescence, Stephen plays the role of Eddie Miller, whose son Jamie is arrested for the murder of his classmate Katie. The drama has been praised for its exploration of how incel subculture is being adopted by young boys, with many calling it “the most important show you’ll see this year”.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, mental health expert Noel McDermott revealed that the show is “astonishing in its accuracy”. He said: “Episode three in particular was the most accurate portrayal I have ever seen of a forensic type assessments. It had the effect of taking me back to professional experiences of sitting with dangerous young men trying to form a relationship to assess how much of a risk they pose.
“The triggering of the young man in this episode around his shame and vulnerability was astonishing in its accuracy,” he added. “The role of social media platforms unchecked and without safety rails is also superbly portrayed.
“Thankfully with the online safety act we are beginning to understand our role as corporate parents. The free speech extremists from other countries don’t have to pick up the pieces when our kids end up harmed.”
Meanwhile, fans have taken to social media to point out subtle clues that are hidden within the drama, with one viewer highlighting how Jamie speaks to the women in his family in the final episode.
“I don’t know if a lot of people noticed, but the way Jamie spoke to his mother and sister in the car (EP 4) was subtle, but powerful. His overall dismissiveness towards the most important women in his life? Wow. Emmy’s all around! #Adolescence,” they said.
Adolescence is available to stream on Netflix.
