Occasional Digest - a story for you

SIR Keir Starmer’s foreign plane trips in the first three months of him being Prime Minister cost taxpayers almost £700,000.

It is £161,000 more than the combined bill his predecessors Rishi Sunak, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss ran up in their equivalent periods.

And he has spent more time abroad in his first six months than any of them in their early months when they were PM.

The analysis of Government records by the Mail on Sunday comes after the Labour leader’s trips earned him the nickname Never Here Keir.

Luke Tryl, of polling company More In Common, said the PM “hasn’t done a good job of explaining why his trips benefit people at home”.

Government records state his trips include one to New York at £236,020.

Others include visits to Rome, Dublin and Berlin, and to Paris and Washington.

He was also accompanied on a flight to Berlin to see the Euro 2024 final.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s flights cost over £900,000 from July to September, in line with his predecessors.
