The future of the brand’s iconic triangle shape is set to be transformed nationwide.
Many fans of the food have whispered murmurs and suspicion, questioning whether Doritos would ever change its snack shape.
From triangle to square for the first time ever, the iconic crisp might look slightly different when you next open a packet.
To mark the brand’s partnership with the highly anticipated A Minecraft Movie, Doritos is switching things up.
However, there will only be a limited number of square Doritos.
Those who manage to find a square Dorito in one of 100 packs of Chilli Heatwave, could be lucky enough to get their hands on a cash prize of up to £10k.
That’s not the only thing the tantalising triangle treat brand have in store.
Two new flavours will be hitting shelves – The Creeper Vinegar and The Ghast BBQ.
These have been set to be on offer from next week.
The flavours will even exist in the A Minecraft Movie world for a limited time before becoming permanent additions with different names.
Doritos UK Senior Marketing Manager, Alex Nicholas today revealed: “I can confirm that Doritos will be going square to mark its partnership with the highly anticipated A Minecraft Movie, only in cinemas April 4th.
“We’ve always been famous for being triangular – until recently, square Doritos were unheard of! But it’s happening and finding one will unlock exciting prizes.
“We know our triangle-shape is iconic, so changing it had to be for something special. Our partnership with A Minecraft Movie gives people the chance to hunt for square Doritos and win prizes and try two exciting new flavours within the Doritos range, which we’re sure fans will love.
“It’s an iconic partnership that is taking snacking to another dimension, thinking outside the box… or should we say, outside the triangle?”
Reactions to the rumoured changes have been varied.
Some wondered if the April date by be a nod to April Fools.
While others appeared enthusiastic.
It comes after fans of the snack were left baffled by the company teasing an image of a square Dorito.
The brand dropped a big hint of a major adaptation.
In an Instagram post the creators of Doritos shared a picture of a square crisp over the message “the shape of things to come”.
Shocked fans were quick respond.
One said: “Don’t mess up with my triangle!”
Another added: “This is an abomination.”
A third questioned if Doritos was serious and said: “This ain’t April 1st, come on…”
