Allen predicts cracker against Murphy

Mark Allen is expecting a semi-final epic against Shaun Murphy on Saturday.

Allen sunk Mark Selby 6-2 while Murphy saw off Neil Robertson by the same margin.

Shaun Murphy is into the semi-finals of the Masters after an impressive 6-2 win over Neil Robertson at Alexandra Palace, but there was disappointment in the final frame despite the great win.

The Magician looked set for his first ever 147 in a Triple Crown event – only to snooker himself and settle for 120.

And Allen was impressed with Murphy’s form.

He told the BBC: “I’m going to have a really tough match, the way Shaun played today, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Allen is also hungry to turn his outstanding ability to regularly each the last four into titles.

He added: “I think it’s six semi-finals in a row.

“It’s consistent form but I want to win consistently. I don’t just want to keep getting to semi-finals.”

Shaun takes apology to the max

Crestfallen Shaun Murphy apologised to the crowd and his MUM on her birthday as he fluffed a 147 shot due to nerves, writes ROB MAUL.

The Magician, 42, cleaned up all 15 reds and a 15th black against Neil Robertson but could not sink the yellow as the cue-ball nestled behind the blue, meaning he finished with a 120 score.

Everyone at Ally Pally was left disappointed he could not celebrate a ninth career maximum break.

Murphy joked: “I’ve let my family down. I’ve let the crowd down. I’ve let my mum down. Sorry.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t deliver the 147. Ah, what an idiot!

“I couldn’t breathe. It was too difficult at that point. I was very nervous.”

“I set one of my targets for this season to make a max in one of the Triple Crown events. I thought: ‘Come on, this is my chance.’

“Anywhere but there! Anywhere! Goodness me. It was exciting. It would have been a great present for my mum’s birthday.”

Friday’s schedule

Just the two games again on Friday but a couple of absolute crackers.

We start with tournament favourite Judd Trump in action against Ding Junhui.

The evening session will then see former world champion Luca Brecel face current world champion Kyren Wilson.

That’s the beauty of the Masters, there is not one poor match in the whole tournament.

1pm – Judd Trump vs Ding Junhui

7pm – Luca Brecel vs Kyren Wilson
