Occasional Digest - a story for you

Six local candidates for the state Senate and Assembly have been invited to meet today in the Moorpark College cafeteria to state their opinions and debate their opponents.

The candidates forum, sponsored by the school’s student government, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the cafeteria inside the Campus Center at the college’s northeastern corner. Admission is free.

Each of the candidates will have 20 minutes to speak and answer questions from the audience.

In the 19th Senate District race, Republican Sen. Cathie Wright of Simi Valley and her opponent, Democrat John Birke of Chatsworth, are expected to appear. Assemblyman Nao Takasugi (R-Oxnard) from the 37th District and Democratic opponent Jess Herrera of Oxnard are also invited, as are Democrat Jon Lauritzen of Chatsworth and Republican Tom McClintock of Simi Valley in the 38th Assembly District race.

Representatives of the Republican and Democratic presidential campaigns will also address the crowd.
