“GLOOMY” weather conditions are set to hit ahead of Halloween – putting a dampener on trick or treat plans, say the Met Office.
Much of the UK can expect grey cloud and rainy spells on the spookiest week of the year.
The weather service predicts cloud and moisture will hide underneath high pressure as it moves in from the west.
“Stubborn fog” and “widespread outbreaks” of rain will see the UK have a slightly colder front compared to the weekend.
But temperatures will still remain higher than average for this time of year, meteorologists add.
Met Office’s Honor Criswick said: “It’s going to be quite a gloomy and grey week ahead. Perfect for Halloween but not so much if you enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend.
“We’ve got this trailing cold front moving its way to the southeast of the country, eventually clearing away.
“And then we do have high pressure building… we have lots of cloud and moisture just trapped underneath this high which means we are expecting cloudy and gloomy weather.”
On Tuesday, commuters can expect a blistery start to the day before we look towards Halloween where conditions become “quite stubborn”.
Ms Criswick added: “To start on Tuesday, we have that cold front just to the southeast, more cloud here, some longer spells of rain, but it’s generally weak. So little outbreaks at most.
“We do have some more widespread outbreaks just moving into the very far northwest of Scotland too.
“Otherwise for Tuesday, largely dry and bright with a fair amount of cloud around to produce some drizzle.
“Temperatures will be just above average for this time of year.
“As we head toward the middle part of the week, there will be some foggy mornings at times quite stubborn to clear, but brightening up through the course of the day.
“In the far north of Scotland we could see some outbreaks of rain.
“Heading into Thursday, we may see a bit more rain spreading across Scotland but fairly dry elsewhere.”
